  • The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem

I am currently having a huge problem printing from indesign.<br />I am running CS3 on a hi spec 08 Mac Pro (10.5.2) connected to an Epson 3800 Stylus Pro A2 printer.<br />I keep getting the message <Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem>.<br />I have tried trashing the indesign preferences, I tried a new account... In fact I have just done a clean install of the entire OS. Just can't get it to print. I did have it printing on this machine before and the same document prints from my iMac.<br />The problem seems to be something to do with the print dialogue. If I print WITHOUT checking the Printer settings in the Print dialogue is sends to the print, but the output is shocking as the paper selection is not right and uses photo black not matt black.<br />When I DO check the printer settings and set it all correctly it gives me the <Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem>.<br />Anyone else had this or have any thoughts?

I am seeing this error too, but I've narrowed it down to an isolated set of circumstances. My client has begun rolling out Active Directory integration with Macs on their network. Here are the specifics:
    -- Mac OS X 10.5.4, IDCS3 5.0.3
-- Using the Directory Utility, Macs are bound to AD with using the mobile account option (user folder is cached locally on workstation, hosted on the network)
-- The message immediately pops up after clicking 'Print' button in print dialogue.
-- Printers are a couple of different versions of DocuColor (250 and 260) with Fiery RIP front ends. Print queues are hosted on an AD print server and listed as Open Directory under Kind in the Add Printer dialogue.
-- Only IDCS and ILCS3 (13.02) exhibit this problem. PSCS3 (10.01), Acrobat (8.1.2) and Safari do not have the same issue, so it appears to be Postscript related
-- Printers not going through AD (IP or BonJour enabled HP B&W lasers) print successfully when logged in via the networked user. Logging into a local admin account resolves the problem as well.
-- This issue appears on freshly imaged machines, G5s and MacBook Pros, not just an isolated workstation. So its possible there is a problem with the source image, but it was created by another office and I'm just a consultant onsite at another location trying to sort things out. Other workstations still using Thursby's Dave software for file and printer access, running 10.4.11 do not exhibit same issues.
-- The console output lists this error when ID fails:
    7/23/08 3:28:59 PM /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS3/Adobe InDesign CS3.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe InDesign CS3[1374] passwordCallback: didn't find keychain item for "ipp://localhost/printers/DC01_Fiery250_5th";prompting for it
I have created a keychain entry to match this with no success.
-- None the suggestions in linked KB doc. resolve the issue. But that doc seems to be outdated as it references CS 1 and 2 versions of ID.
So, has anyone seen the same issues? AD integration appears to be the common thread, but I cannot find the cause.

    Thanks,
    srii.

    Hi Sridhar
Users can print the ALV output on a printer or they can view the printout on the screen. You are able to change the look of these printouts by making various settings in the list-type ALV outputs using the ALV object model.
You can make the following settings for the printout of the ALV output:
    · Output additional information
    · Output standard title of the program
    · Determine that the ALV be called in print mode
    · Take actual list size into consideration during printing
    · Optimize Column Width in the Printout
    · Reserve Rows for Event END_OF_PAGE

Determine that the ALV Be Called in Print Mode
You are able to print the ALV output directly without having to first display it on the screen.

Take Actual List Size into Consideration During Printing
You can use the application to determine how wide the list should be in the printout. If the width of the ALV output has changed (for example because the user is showing columns), it can be that the page is not big enough to show all the information. You are able to set that ALV determine the current size before printing and then changes the print parameters accordingly.

  • D5160 - printed output streaked, even after cleaning and replacing cartridges

    SYSTEM SETUP:
    1. I purchased my HP Photosmart D5160 over 3 years ago (12/20/06).
    2. I use only HP ink cartridges (98 for black, 95 for tri-color).
    3. I print photos on professional glossy inkjet photo paper.
    PRIOR TO PROBLEM:
    1. Until a couple of months ago, I have been printing flawless photos with the setup mentioned above.
    2. Sometimes after installing new HP ink cartridges, a printed photo would print out with streaks.  To resolve this issue, I would "Clean the Print Cartridges" via the "HP Photosmart D5100 series Toolbox" and the photos would then print out flawlessly.
    PROBLEM:
    1. Beginning about two months ago, I am unable to have my photos print out flawlessly.  The photos print out consistently with some streaking.  I use the same paper as I always have.  I purchase the same HP ink cartridges as I always have.
    2. Using the "HP Photosmart D5100 series Toolbox," I clean the print cartridges and do an intermediate clean and then a prime.  Problem still remains.
    3. I then cleaned the print cartridges manually per the following HP doc (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01711664&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1155996) but problem still remains.
    4. I then replaced both the black and tri-color ink cartridges and problem still remains.
    QUESTION:
Is it time to buy a new printer or is there something else I can try?
    Thanks,
    Angela

  • Color management settings for the best print output

Color Management while Printing has been one of the challenging areas which has been discussed a lot over user forums and has been a painful area in terms of clear understanding while taking print outputs.
Here is an easy-to-understand KB (Knowledge Base) article ‘Color management settings for the best print output’ to help you get the best from your printers using PSE and bridge that knowledge gap.
This article explains color management in Photoshop Elements, how to get better prints, and addresses some of the following issues like horizontal/vertical streaks in print output, too dark or too light print output, ICC profile problems and Color differences between prints from PSE and other applications.
    Thanks,

    Thanks Noel.
Yes have shared in PSE forum as well. But I usually drop such posts on PS General forum so community moderators as well as our power users who mostly use both PS or PSE or are aware about can communicate to their students, audiences etc.
The idea is to reach out the message to as many as folks via relevant forums. Most of my otehr posts have found mentioned only on PSE forum.
Thanks for the feedback Nice to hear such a great feedback within 5 mts of publishing

  • Email Sending of Purchase Order Created versus Print Output

    Dear All,
I have been successful in sending the Purchase Order created as a PDF Attachment in email.
The problem i am facing is in the formatting of the attached output.
The attachment has different bold characters as compared to the print output of the PO , though both the outputs are using the same sapscript.
I am not able to find the reason for the difference.
Only because of this reason, my delivery is on hold.
Please guide me on how to find where the difference could be and how to rectify it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bhavika

Could you tell us which fonts you tried?
What device type did you choose? (SPAD transaction, select your output device to determine the device type)
Could you upload TrueType fonts (one normal, one bold) with RSTXPDF2 program (do not tick "do not embed font in PDF" option so that the font is embedded in the PDF file)?
Did you make sure that your font is not converted to another one? (SE73, printer font, choose your device type, click conversion button, and check what is the converted font)

  • CP5 and Print output

I'm packaging some PPTs used for ILT using Captivate.  The package is going to include an .exe version and two handout versions.  One for students and one for instructors.  Has anyone attempted to add or modify the templates for the print output?
I've just tried to use the Handout Template and it has everything scrunched in the center of the page.
When I use this as a handout for students I'd like the graphic more over on the left and more room for longer lines on the right for student notes.
I'd also like to use the handout format with the slide notes for an Instructor's Handout.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Susan

Susan then asked, "Since I've not written macros do you have a good source for learning how?" and I sent the following reply:
"Try this link as a starting point: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd721892(v=office.12).aspx
However, I must forewarn you, to customize your Captivate documentation your macros will probably need to manipulate images, resizing and/or repositioning them. For that, you will need to learn how to use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to manipulate Microsoft Word's "Shapes" and "InlineShapes" collections. Initially, all the slide images in the Word document that Captivate produces are inline shapes, attached to the Word paragraph in which they occur. You can resize an inline shape, but you can't reposition it directly. You can either adjust the position and alignment of the paragraph to which it is attached, or you can convert it to a regular Shape whose position can be controlled independently of nearby text. The following procedure is one I use to position the first slide by itself on the first page of the Word document:
    Sub FloatPicture1()
        Dim iSlideCount As Integer
        Dim oILS As InlineShape
        Dim oFloatingShape As Shape
iSlideCount = ActiveDocument.InlineShapes.Count ' this line just shows you how to find total number of pics in the document
Set oILS = ActiveDocument.InlineShapes(1) ' this line sets up a convenient reference to the first picture in the InlineShapes collection
With oILS ' the "With" to "End With" block lets us do multiple actions on the referenced object
.Select ' If we hadn't done the "Set oILS" and "With oILS" steps, we would have had to type this line in full as:
                        ' ActiveDocument.InlineShapes(1).Select
' and the following line as Set oFloatingShape = ActiveDocument.InlineShapes(1).ConvertToShape
            Set oFloatingShape = .ConvertToShape
        End With
With oFloatingShape ' Now that we have floated the shape, we can set its position
.RelativeVerticalPosition = wdRelativeVerticalPositionPage           ' these settings control how word will interpret
.RelativeHorizontalPosition = wdRelativeHorizontalPositionPage    ' the .Left and .Top values that follow.
            .Left = CentimetersToPoints(2)
            .Top = CentimetersToPoints(6.5)
        End With
Set oILS = Nothing ' just some VBA housekeeping here, now that we have finished with these objects
        Set oFloatingShape = Nothing
    End Sub ' FloatPicture1"
By the way, note that when we converted InlineShape #1 to a floating shape, that would have reduced the count of InlineShapes by 1, and what was previously InlineShape #2 is the new #1. Your code may sometimes need to take that change of numbering into account.

  • User getting print output with logo and footer is cut

    Hi Experts,

Please can you let me know what could be the issue and how to investigate the issue
    Regards,

    Hi Nick,
The user has reverted back that the print is working fine when you print word documents or other systems
The user is trying to give print from the Portal system and says that
"it is not possible in e-Recruiting to choose a printer like it can be done in a SAP backend system. E-Recruiting is a web based application and with any correspondence scenarios which allows print outs there is only a button "print". Clicking on that button the e-Recruiting system is triggered to print the requested document on the network printer of the users. This process happens blind in the background and there is absolutely no user interaction (like choosing layout options, choosing printer, changing properties etc.) necessary or possible"
Also for your information print privew is getting dispalyed correctly
Please can you help us as the logo and footer is still cut, also please can you let me know if you require more information

  • Issue in purchase order print output

    Hi All,
When we issue a print output from Purchase order  the special characters like u201C , u2018 , &  etc are appearing as # .But the print preview is  fine.
In order to avoid this we have maintained the proper device type for the output device(In  transaction SPAD ).
After this setup the upper part of the header text is appearing but lower part of header text still has # in place of the special characters .Please let me know how this can be avoided.

It seems the problem is because of CODE PAGE or Drivers. Check the language settings in your system and driver settings output device.

  • Printing output incorrect with non Russian fonts

I have tried all the ways with approximate all the device types.
We are getting the correct print preview of spool requests in SAP with Russian Fonts, It means that SAP is doing it work, but the printing output is wrong.
The device types (eg. HPUTF8, HPLJ5, ZPC2424S)  are printing correctly with other Printers like RU03, RU02, RU05 but not with RU07.
We have tried many windows drivers as well which were suggested by SAP.
I have tried the below device types as well which are cyrillic compatible. For these device types print preview is coming fine but not printout.

Kindly suggest if any particular setting like device type, symbol set, printer driver suitable for this printer to print output correctly.
    Regards
    Munish

This is normal printer HP laserjet p2055 dn printer.
RU03, RU06, RU07  are sap printer names in ECC system.
SAPSPrint server has names like mospr03, mospr06, mospr07.
SAP is using access method S and pointing to host printer drivers like mospr07 in sapsprint windows server.
It seems that either the printer driver on windows is incorrect in terms of printing from sap or there may be font problem in physical printer.

  • Printer output incorrect/too small after upgrading to VS 2010 Crystal

I have a Windows Form application that was originally written using .net 3.5 and the version of Crystal Reports that came with Visual Studio 2008. When the VS 2010 release of Crystal Reports came out, I upgraded the application to .net 4/VS 2010 and the new Crystal release.
This application prints checks on blank check stock, so alignment of the output has to be very exact to print the checks correctly. It prints the reports using the PrintToPrinter() method of the ReportDocument class.
In the original version of the program, I had everything aligned correctly in the check report. After updating the application to the latest Crystal release, but making no changes to the report itself, I noticed that the alignment of the checks report was incorrect.
After comparing the output, I was able to determine that the new output is slightly shrunk compared to old output, almost as if it is scaling the report in some way.
I opened the report in the new report designer and verified that all page size and margin settings were correct/the same as before, and they were. The printed output is smaller than it should be based on how the report is designed. I tried adjusted the paper size, and also tried the "Dissociate Formatting Page Size and Printer Paper Size" to see if I could somehow adjust for the scaling, but nothing I tried was successful.
Our check printer is a HP LaserJet 5Si. During my investigation into the problem I discovered that if I printed the report to a pdf printer (PDFCreator) the resulting pdf did not have the same scaling/shrinking problem that I get when the report is sent directly to the LaserJet. I also printed a page from the pdf to the LaserJet using Acrobat Reader, and the output was as I expected it to be.
I only seem to be seeing the scaling/shrinking problem when I send the report directly to the LaserJet. Is there some new setting that I'm overlooking that would be applying some sort of report-wide scaling? Any other ideas as to why this is happening?

Looking for HP LaserJet 5Si at the HP website:

I notice that there are several different types (hm, mx, nx, ...). Also, there are different drivers, depending on the OS.
Ensure that you are using the correct driver (hm, mx, nx, ...) for your printer and for your OS and that the driver has the latest updates from HP.

  • Snippets in Printed Output

    Hi,
    I am using RH9 and Word 2007 .
I have created several snippets and for the most part the formatting appears correctly in the printed output.
The topic has a CSS attached and I manually added the CSS to the snippet as suggested in one of the posts here.
The problem is with the 'Normal' style - all other styles appear correctly in the printed output.
Looking at the Style Inspector in Word I can see that the Normal Style appears with some Text Level Formatting - if you clear this then everything is displayed correctly. Other text in the same topic marked as normal in RH9 appears correctly in Word.
So the question is does anyone know where the text marked as normal in the snippet is getting the text level formatting from and how do I fix it?
    TIA
    Morven

    Hi Peter,
    I found a thread here from Jan 15 2011:
rh8: Snippets: CSS styling - how is it done?
"In addition to Peter's answer, you can manually add a style sheet to a snippet. The style sheet is not used in the output, but you can select styles in the regular way.
A snippet is just a .htm file with a different extension. To add a style sheet, go to HTML mode and add <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"  href="mycss.css" />
The snippet is in the root of your project, so be sure to use the correct path. Save and go to WYSIWYG mode. The snippet is now correctly formatted and you can use the styles from your css."
Now, what I understand from this is that style sheet is not used from the actual snippet but that this allows you to format the snippet and then it takes the formatting from the css which is attached to the topic.
The strange thing is that the mapping seems to be mostly correct (including tables!) except the text marked as 'Normal' - this appears as blue text which is how the font is formatted in RH.
I am outputing to a Word document and using a Word Template (Style Mapping.dot).
    Thanks
