7.3.4 to 8.1.7  ODMA ERROR : ORA-01552: CANNOT USE SYSTEM ROLLBACK

Trying to upgrade an old 7.3.4 database running on Aix to 8.1.7 so I can get a compatible export file to allow me to take it to 10gR2.
I have done some work to get the init.ora file configured with the proper values but the odma fails with the following error:
drop table dual;
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01552: cannot use system rollback segment for non-system tablespace 'xxx'
I have other rollback segments defined by my init.ora file and during a normal database startup they are online.
When I run the 'odma' process it takes the database down and when it brings it up it only has the SYSTEM rollback segment online.
I know this is an old configuration but anyone have any suggestions?
I do have "audit_trail = none" in my init file.
Update:
Looks like to just do an exp/imp I don't need to worry about going through odma so I am just going to close this post.

  • 7.3 to 8i Migration

Can anyone point me in the direction of some docs for
    migrating from Rdbms 7.3 to 8i .
Any white papers/ war stories ... use of imp/exp vs
    Oracle Migration utility.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Matt,
I went from 7.3.4.4 to 8.1.5 for a recent client with no
    problems. There is a trick.
startup restrict your database and make all but system, rollback
and tools (if system has objects in there) tablespaces offline
normal. After the up grade, a tablespace of 7.3 format is
    automatically converted to 8i format.
It means that your restart point on failure is restore copies of
the online tablespace data files and not the whole database.
I suggest you try restoring your production db to a test server
and trialing the upgrade a few times. I used the Odma data
migration assistant, with the multiplying factor at 50, and not
15 (default). Other than the above, things went OK.
If you want any more info or have questions, please let me know
    by email.
    I hope I've helped.
    Cheers,

  • Which ports are required by ODMA?

I am an SAP R/3 administrator.
I want to upgrade from Oracle 8.0.6.3 to 8.1.7.3 under AIX 4.3.3
So I need to use the RUNINSTALLER followed by the ODMA
I want to do this remotely, passing out through one firewall then in through another.
My X-emulation is ReflectionX, for which I already have firewall transparency for port 6000 .
My question: Which ports are required for RUNINSTALLER + ODMA
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Keith!
This forum deals with issues specifically related to the Oracle Migration Workbench product. This product is used to migrate non Oracle databases to Oracle8i & Orace9i. (It does not enable you to migrate from one Oracle database version to another!)
In order to get assistance in performing a migration frrm one Oracle database version to another you should contact Oracle RDBMS Support. You should be able to find their contact details in the Documentation that comes with ODMA.
    hope this helps

Does anyone know if there is an ODMA interface for iFS? if there is not such interface yet, will it be one of the features for the next release?

ODMA is not a planned feature. We feel that WebDAV will replace ODMA.

  • Open Document Management API[ODMA]

We want to know how to integrate open document Management API thru java.

I did a Google search for "ODMA Java". The first two hits I got were two of your posts here. That tells you how much useful information there is on the topic. The third hit was an FAQ; in August 2000 somebody asked "What is the Java support for ODMA?" and nobody has answered yet. The fifth hit is an article that suggests you don't waste your time with ODMA.
This may not seem helpful but it really is. It tells you that you should be trying something else.

  • Extracting doc number information from dox saved in DMS

    Hello,
I'm wanting to have a macro written that will put a document id into the
footer of saved documents when the appropriate button is pushed.
    I know I can use the standard Word "Insert | Autotext | Header/Footer |
Filename or Filename and path but when I do that, I get something like
    this:
    ::ODMAGRPWISEDOMAIN_AUS_DOM.POSTOFFICE_AUS_PO.Offi ce Administration:9055.1
whereas the powers-that-be want something like this:
    OA:9055.1
and nothing else. (The "OA" bit is the short version of Office
    Administration)
I have a developer who thinks he may be able to pull this together, but he
    has posed this question:
Is there a way to retrieve the profile information from Groupwise for a
document that is currently open on screen?
    Using GW7, SP2 on NetWare 6.5, SP6.
    TIA,
    Catherine

I think if you insert the filename with the option to include the path name,
you will get the ODMA string with the doc number at the end (assuming the
document has been saved and already has been assigned a doc number). Can
you parse that somehow? I did this a long time ago in WP but not Word.
Seems to me you should be able to record a macro to do that.

  • Migration from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7

    Hi everyone,
I have been trying to migrate our db from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7 on Linux RedHat 6.2 for some time now. Oracle 8.0.5 was already installed and running properly. After shuting down the db, I installed 8.1.7 into a new ORACLE_HOME (/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7). The installation went without errors (I did not choose to do the migration during install nor did I installed a default db). After installing the patch (setup_stubs.sh script) I ran the odma (Oracle Data Migration Assistant) but got an error: "An error occured while starting up the database..." I checked the log that came with the error message and it occured when it was trying to open the database i.e. the instance started, but when it came for mounting the database it displayed: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel. I tried to start the db with the svrmgrl and got the same error. The question is:
Is there an easier way or another way to migrate the database after a successful installation of 8i?
Or is there anyone knows why I get such an error?

    Can sql*LOADER do migration from 10gR2 to 8i ?
Or is there any way to do this ?
ThankOther than the fundamental flaw in your approach, as already pointed out by other responders, let me address your specific question - "Can sql*LOADER do migration from 10gR2 to 8i ?"
Think about that for a minute. What kind of file is sqlloader using as input? You already know -- a .csv file.
And what property or attribute about a csv file would indicate that the data in it came from a particular version of an oracle database (or any database at all?) and so would be subject to any kind of compatibility issues?
I'm NOT suggesting that you continue with this approach. It is still misguided in multiple ways. I'm just trying to get you to think about the question you asked.

one thing to make sure of is that you're not using a proxy to

    compliant right now.
if that's not the problem, could you post the jserv.log file

  • Problem with my rollovers working in Safari

    Hello
    if you go to
    http://www.enhancedwireless.net/Company/TEST.shtml
and rollover "(ODMA)" you should get a disjointed rollover of a 301 x 167 gif image. However, while this works in latest mac FF and Netscape, it doesn't work at all in Safari 1.3.2 or later. Only the section of the image that is outside the main body, ie that which appears over the grey, right margin, pops up and is visible.
So what is the problem? One thing, Been told I'm not supposed to be able to give the "left" attribute (in my css) anything other than "0", but I gave it what I wanted (-143px) and it seems to line up correctly, except doesn't show at all in Safari...is one problem my z-indexes? Not too familiar with what they should be. On my css I'm using the screen2 code.
Would love a solution, especially since I got this to work with a swf file on ALL the above browsers.

    Hi Linc
Thank you for the extremely detailed response.
I think I have the issue solved for the minute at least.
I not only disconnected every cable from the Mac, as I had previously done, I also disconnected every cable from my peripherals and powered down every peripheral as well, then re-wired my set-up. This seems to have solved the issue. Not sure of the technical reason that this would have fixed my problem, but it seems to have fixed the issue for the moment anyway.
So, my problem is solved too!!
    Many thanks

  • 8.1.7 Post-installation end-of-file on communication channel error

    Hi everyone,
I got a problem with a new install of Oracle 8.1.7. First, I had 8.0.5 installed on Linux which contained a relative huge database. I wanted to upgrade to 8.1.7 and so, I installed it (with no default database). After I applied the patch (the setup_stubs.sh script) I tried to migrate the existing database with the odma (oracle data migration assistant). However, during the process odma gave me an error "An error occured while starting up the database..." I checked the log that came with the error message and it occured when it was trying to open the database i.e. the instance started, but when it came for mounting the database it displayed: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
I attempted to do the migration manually. So I tried to start the database using svrmgrl:
    startup restrict pfile=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initSID.ora
and, of course, I get the instance started, but when it comes to mount the db, it gave me:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Anybody knows why I get this error on startup?
I checked my environment variables, my PATH and also made sure that svrmgrl was the version for 8.1.7. Everythings seem fine.
    Any ideas?
Anything would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    joss

Oracle unable to spawn job slave processes should not prevent the instance from starting - these are not critical system processes and the instance can function without them (as it can when the job queue is set to zero processes).
The o/s failure message also does not make much sense.. overlapped I/O is Microsoft Windows term for async I/O. This can be used at file I/O level, but is also supported for any other file handle like sockets - thus applicable at the network layer too.
I'm a bit confused to how a PFILE versus a SPFILE startup can cause this. If that is the case, then surely there are something different ito init instance settings that triggers this error?
Can you copy and paste the actual SQL*Plus session (as already requested). Show us startup command (and params) used in SQL*Plus and the resulting messages (and errors displayed) in response to the startup.

  • Upgrading Oracle 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 on Solaris

We have an existing application running on Oracle 8.1.6 ; We want to upgrade it to 8.1.7 ; What is the least complicated process of doing so ?

There are 2 methods first one in export and import which is bit slow, the second
method is install 8.1.7 on a new oracle home, if a database is already exists, Oracle
asks you whether to update, it uses ODMA for this process, since you don't want

    Hi,
    I have oracle 9i 9.0.1 enterprise edition.
how do I upgrade it to 9i release to (9.2) ?
    help me please.

    Hello
    Main steps:
    - make a cold backup of DB
    - install new version of oracle (9iR2) and apply patchset 9.0.2.4 (on windows also should apply 9.2.0.4.3)
    - change environment settings
    - start DB with new version (start service, but DO NOT open with DB, startup DB with migrate option) or run ODMA
    - run u0900010.sql
or run ODMA from 9iR2 Home
By the way follow the migration guide instructions!
