75 meg when connected wired, 10 meg when wireless ...

can any one tell me why i get 75 meg when im connected with a wire but when downloading a film it says its downloading at 5 kbps, and when im wireless im 10 meg or under and the same speed downloading 5 kbps. and they charging me full wack for this **bleep**ty infinity, takes me 10-20 hrs to download a film. pls help

First thing i would try is updating the wireless drivers on the laptop.
Next i would consider interferance. ie where is the router located. is there a lot of metal and electronics near by. also where is the laptop situated. try it fairy clse to the router. with nothing in between.
also worth considering the age of the laptop and the operating system. Have you applied all updates? It may be worth applying all updates, deleting your wirelss connection and reconnecting again, particularly if you are using a 12 year old operating system like windows xp. if it is not up to date it you may not have the latest and possibly faster protocols. updating and recreating the connection might help in this case.
Unfortunately, there is not much you can adjust on the router itself that would help - that i can see anyway. on my hh3 it is not possible to select many options.

  • When connecting wired my router straight from my internet provider I get speeds in the 90mps range.  Now when connecting wired through my airport extreme I get speeds near 10mps. Also when using wireless for my ipad3 I recieve download speeds of .63mps.

When connecting, wired, to my router from my ISP I get speeds in the 90mbps range.  Then when connecting, wired, to my Airport Extreme I get speeds of 10mbps.  Wirelessly I get download speeds of 6mbps on my laptops and only 1mbs with my Ipad3.  I am making sure only one device is sharing the network to make sure to get accurate results.  Why are things so slow?

    Hi Ty,
First, check with you ISP to see what speed they've promised.  In my case, they indicated that the speed should be greater than 50 Mbps.  If they say that it should be significantly higher than what your getting, then try the following if you're using Airport Utility v.6.:
    1. Open the Airport Utility (Desktop: Command+Shift+U to open Utility Folder, select Airport Utility)
    2. Click on the visual representation of the Airport Extreme and then select "Edit" (bottom right corner)
    3. When the window opens (to a tab "Base Station"), click on the "Wireless" tab,
-it should have the following options: Network Mode, Wireless Network Name, Wireless Security, Wireless Password, Verify Password, a checkbox with "Enable Guest Network", and a button "Wireless Options..."]
    4. Select "Wireless Options", which should open another window with the following options:
5Ghz network name, Country, a checkbox with "Create hidden Network", Radio Mode, 2.4 GHz Channel, and 5 GHz Channel [both of which can stay on "Automatic"]
    5. Clicking on  "Radio Mode" will bring up a list in which the las option should read:
    802.11n only (5Ghz) - 802.11n only (2.4 GHz)
Once you click "Save", your router will blink amber for a little while and then it should work.
Hope this helps.  Let me know if it does/doesn't.

    Hi, Shadiamond Murray.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting regarding iOS device connection.  The second article cover the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

When I want to make a phonecall with my iphone5, I hear absolutely nothing....no ringing and no talking when connection established. When I make the same call but now on speaker, no problem or what so ever, can anyone help me ?

    Hello there, RobenCaatje.
The following Knowledge Base article is specific for the issue you're describing:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
    Specifically:
    Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • HT4914 why do some songs grayed out and only available when connected on wifi when trying to stream on iphone?

why do some songs grayed out and only available when connected on wifi when trying to stream on iphone?

I had this problem too - of grayed out music I could only play when in WIFI.  I noticed when looking in iTunes, these grayed song were not chosen by me to sync on to my iPhone. They were stored in iCloud.  I went to Settings > Music and then turned off "Show All Music" so only music that has been dowloaded to my iPhone will be shown.
I don't have iTunes Match, so you may have a different issue than what I had.

  • HP 7510 AIO printer won't stay connected - Wired workstation, wireless printer

Hi!  I spoke (and checked solution button) too soon. The printer still "disappears" from the Wired XP network workstation. The only difference since applying the solution given is that the disconnects are now happening about every 12 hours, vs every couple of hours.
Ink notification is set to "only when I print"
Static IP is set for all machines
HNDU works -- when the printer is visible but will hang the workstation if printer is not visible.
    Original comments follow below;
HP 7510 wireless printer disappears -- 4 station XP wireless network, w/ 1 PC hardwired.
    Options

    Printer: HP 7510
Network:  multi-station wireless, thru DLink DI-632 (one PC hardwired to router)
Address Config:   Printer is using static IP -- outside of DCHP range (192.168.15.240)
Printer Config: Each computer has static IP set into the control panel app, using IP addressing.
Operating System:  XP (Service Pack 3)
Other devices:  Ipad, Xoom and Kindle Fire (all working using ePrint)
Network Security Protocol: WEP (we're out in the country)
Network Setup:  Main router, along with 2 access ports (hardwired); currently using channels 1, 5 and 11 (again, we're in the country and have little competition for channels)
File Sharing: All machines in network have one open "share" drive, accessable with passwork.
Scenario:  Wireless computers appear to stay connected for several days to a week at a time. (We reboot weekly, just as a SOP)
Computer that is wired to the network loses communication with the printer a couple of times a day and needs to be rebooted in order to restore connection.
When this happens, other machines continue to print and scan, with no problems, and the wired machine continues to have its name displayed in the SCANNING panel on the printer -- but the printer won't talk to it.   All network functions, including internet and intranet access to the printer's EWS is still available.  I have noticed that if I go into check ink levels, though, that the ink check software behaves differently.
Normally in the ink status app, there is a small "working" icon with 6 dots. When this computer is connected properly, it will start jumping around the circle, showing activitiy, get to 41%, and then display the ink status info.  When the printer/computer connection is not working, the "working" icon will go to just a couple of percent then jump to the printer information page, showing make, model, serial number, firmware level etc.
In every instance so far, rebooting (with no other action) brings the printer/computer connection back to life -- until next time.  I am trying to find any other pattern for this behavior, just can't identify it yet.
I started out with the plain vanilla installation, but then every computer in the network would consistently drop connections, about every 45 minutes. Using the info on this forum, I've eliminated the drop-outs for those printers, and got to the Static IP solutions (we've done that anyway for years with net-ready machines).  This is the last machine that "drops off"  It appears that some piece of HP-required software is "dropping out" or getting clobbered, but I cannot see a pattern, even checking and noting the various software used locally on the machine, and the various websites visited. So far, no pattern.
I am hoping that an HP guru with access to the source for the "ink supply" status software can take a look at what is happening and why it will always go to 41% and then display ink status (when connected) and then only go a couple of percent and display the ink status (when it isn't connected).
    Thanks, in advance,
    jim

    More info:
In last paragraph, above, the request for "ink status" is returned with a static display of the printer firmware version, driver version, step level, MAC# etc of the printer, not "ink status" when the printer is disconnected.
Also, when printer is disconnected the HP home networking utility will hang the system -- a hard reboot is required, which restores the printer, until the next time it goes "into the woods".  Signal stregth, measured on the printer, is 4 bars (very good).

Thanks!  That appears to solve the problem.  After your suggestion, I remembered that I set the "ink level warning" on this machine ONLY to "Always warn me", as opposed to "tell me only when I am printing".  That seemed to be the problem. Only the computer that was set to "always warn on low ink-levels" was disconnecting -- the others worked fine! Now, all are working fine.
Just to be safe, though, I've also turned off the "scan from printer to computer" function on each computer. That was set for each machine, and seemed to work fine. The other machines in the network did not disconnect, and the printer was tracked whether each computer was on or off.   May try to turn it on later; I'll see if the family uses that feature very often!
    Thank you for your help.

I spoke too soon!  After about 26 hours, the printer connection on the one "hard-wired" CPU dropped, which is better than before, but still not solid.  Same exact symptoms as before. Only piece of the puzzle that was different this time is about 50 pages were scanned, some to this computer.  Used the "Scan requested from CPU" process, rather than enabling the "Scan TO Cpu" function in the software app.  It did not drop the connection immediately after -- about 1 hour to 1.5 hours afterwards.  Suspect this is a coincidence, not a cause of the problem with this machine.
I also scanned (same approach) from one other CPU on the network -- that wifi connection is still rock-solid.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I think it is fixed now.....the problem seems to reside in the module that will notify you immediately if ink is low (vs notify me only when printing).  If, when initially installed, the user selects "immediately", then the printer will randomly disappear. (More on "re-finding it" later.)
Also, it is difficult to change the ink notification setting, because it appears not to be "sticky", but will sometimes, flip. (I've not figured this out yet).  As long as the setting for "low ink notification" is on "only when printing", life is good.
If the printer does disappear, go over to the Advanced tab when the printer software/firmware page comes up, instead of the current ink levels.  Reset the selection about "tell me about ink notification" to "only when printing", and then toggle the "autoshut off" from "NEVER" to "2 hours" and then, finally, back to "NEVER".  Then, lastly, press closed on the panel.  Printer should be connected again. To test, go to the Photosmart 7510 app again, and select "Show estimated ink levels".  The counter will start at 1%, jump to 41% and then bounce around until it displays the ink level.
FOR HP TECH:  Please consider making the "ink level notification" persistent in the registry OR provide a de-install tool that will completely clean all traces of the prior installation of the 7510 driver / app in the registry, so that a new install may have this setting saved correctly.
Hope this helps some of you -- it's an excellent printer once its running!

  • P1606dn prints when connected wired but not when wireless

    Hi
I have setup above printer as a network printer connected to a wireless router and 2-4 computer. Only the computer that is directly connected to the router by wire will print. All others can see the printer through wireless connection but printjobs stay in queue. I have removed the tick from the birectional printing, have stopped and restarted the sppoler and restarted the wirelss computer, but the printjobs stay in the queue until I manually remove them from the queue.
I am at wits end, and do not know what to try to get this printer work on the other cimputers.
Any advisae that may solve this problem is hugely appreciated.

Sorry that you are having problems with wireless printing. You can run the print and scan doctor and check the results.

It may be a anti-virus or a firewall that is blocking it. Try to disable it and see if that works for you.

  • Nm-applet ask for root passwd when connecting to a new wireless networ

    Hi,
I just installed Archlinux and I have some trouble with network-manager-applet: it asks for the root passwd when I try to connect first time to a wireless network. After giving the root passwd and the required wireless authentication, nm connects with no problem, and saves the connection as a system one, so there is no problem at connecting second time.
I have read the wiki, and I know that it should be some consolekit or policykit problem. I use gdm3 as displaymanager, so it should take care of consolekit, and I have the Policykit Authentication Agent ( gnome-polkit ) in my startup applications ( by the way, I use Xfce, 32bit ), so there should not be need for explicit grant permissions for the users.
At least in my openSUSE box there is no polkit configuration file which contains
    [nm-applet]
    Identity=unix-group:network
    Action=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.*
    ResultAny=yes
    ResultInactive=no
    ResultActive=yes
, but the nm-applet is usable without root access.

inp3dance wrote:At least in my openSUSE box there is no polkit configuration file ...
I think that if you search /var/lib/polkit-1 and /etc/polkit-1/  for
    Action=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager
    on your openSUSE.
You will find a rule that permits you to connect.

  • PDA only receives UDP data when connected to PC; fails wirelessly

I have a UDP sender on PC, a receive program in PDA running Windows Mobile 5.0.
The wired thing is when I connect the PDA with PC through USB cable, receiver program in PDA works fine; but when disconnected, receiver program does not read UDP data any more.

Here is the Sender program, everytime it runs, it broadcasts a 'T' or 'F' to all addresses.
Here is the receiver program. It is constantly running reading the broadcast message. When PDA is connected to PC, it receives fine; when it disconnects, it does not receive any thing.

  • Cannot see Airport Express when connected to Cisco corporate wireless - used to work, stopped cooperating recently

I have had an Airport Express at my office for several years to stream iTunes. It has worked fine, including through an upgrade to a new Cisco wireless network. Then it just stopped. I have reset, and then purchased a new AE with updated firmware. I have a green light, and when I connect via an ethernet cable I am getting all green lights, and can see that I have a valid IP address on the network, the router address is correct and the DNS servers appear to be correct. I still cannot see the AE on any Apple device connected to the wireless network....... any ideas? Is this connected to any recent IOS updates? Thanks for any insights......

  • ITunes content not visible when connected to internet via wireless

I have been having problems with my Apple TV. It did not show any iTunes Store content. After some considerable attempts at reconfiguration, I finally restored to factory settings and I still could not connect to the internet via my airport extreme wireless network. I therefore ran an ethernet cable instead and all the itunes store content appeared and I was able to sync with my Macbook Pro. I then looked at the network configeration using the ethernet recorded the settings and took the cable out. Then reconnected using the wireless connection, initally it could not connect to the internet but then I went through the manual connection and set the settings using DCHP and it then connected but once again there is no iTunes store content, if I reconnect the iTune store content comes back as does the uTube and internet radio both of which also disappear if I try and go wireless. Any thoughts?

are you connecting to the same router for the ethernet and wireless connections?

  • Satellite L650-12Z: Led does not light up when connected to power source

My L650 does not show the white light anymore when the cable is plugged in.
The connectors are clean, and the adapter is working.
The laptop does still run on the battery ( when there was still power in it).
Also without the battery, there is no white light indicating that the laptop is connected to the DC.
Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to solve it?

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately the battery does not charge when connected.
Only when connected with the full battery it is working.
I have measured the adapter with my multimeter and it seems to be working properly.
Like you said, letting a technician look at it would be a smart idea.
I decided to send it to a service center in my city, in about 4 weeks I would have the notebook back they said.
Weird thing for me still is, that around three weeks ago the same happened. Windows said the power was not connected. But after plugging the power in and out a few times it worked again. Maybe this is a symptom of something?

  • Windows 7 and XP Disable wireless when connected to hot wired

    Hello there,
We are facing IP address shortage due to redundant network connections from laptops because every laptop uses two IP address when connected to wireless network and hard wire. Does Windows 7 and XP natively has the options to disable wireless when a laptop
is connected to hard wired? I know the wireless can easily disabled by manual process but problem is user don't have the knowledge or don't bother to do that. So if there is a way to use GPO to configure this would be ideal -- no 3rd party solution please.
    Any suggestion is most welcomed.
    Thanks,
    TL

There are no Fail proof ways for Win 7 or 8 to make sure that AT ALL times Wire is used over WIFI. The metric setting is ignored by MS. I know cause my metric for the wired is 10 and for the WiFi is 9999, but at all times the WiFi is used instead of the
Wired. This is by design as Microsoft being as inept as always did not properly design their operating system. This is a DESIGN DEFECT, which Microsoft will not admit to, despite the fact that it could be caused by no other method EXCEPT incompetent design,
ignored during quality assurance testing etc. The reason there are a million people looking for a fix for this design flaw is that there is NO fix available. MS will not fix it as they got your money and could care less. Being that they are among the most
evil and greedy companies currently in business is why it will never be fixed. I dare them to prove me wrong and fix the obvious design defect. I double dare all who read this to log in to the MS tech net and demand that they fix this DESIGN DEFECT.
Any developer qualified to design an OS should have no problem permanently fixing this and Microsoft has NO EXCUSE for not doing so with an update!!!!!! All they have to do in the code logic is ask the system if the device getting an IP etc is using a "radio"
then it asks all the other devices that are getting or have gotten an IP if it was gotten via a radio, If during any of these quires the answer is I DID NOT get my IP from a radio connection then that IP path gets priority and all the others, IE WiFi gets
disabled. Then if there is a change in the network, loss of connectivity for example, the process is repeated and when everything say's it got its IP from a radio then the WiFi takes over. So in a nut shell every connection is looked at to see if it is from
a radio based device or a hardwired based device, NOT using metrics since that apparently can not be counted on, the prof is in the 500+ PCs I just setup, ALL OF WHICH GIVE A SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER METRIC TO THE WIRED, but still choose the WIFi. The order of
the connection establishment should not matter since the test is performed on every connection and as soon as one is found that is not radio based, it is left on and all others are turned off. Common sense really. This is NOT ROCKET science! Just good common
    sense programing.
So I challenge everyone who reads this comment to add a demand for MS to fix the DESIGN DEFECT once and for all.
That's all I have to say. If there is a script as some of the suggestions here mention that can do it, if there is a single 3rd party product out there that can do it, then there is NO EXCUSE for MS not to provide a PERMANENT OFFICIAL MICROSOFT CERTIFIED
FREE fix for this DEFECT. And yes it can only be classified as a DESIGN DEFECT as common sense say's you would AT NO time under normal operations EVER want the MUCH slower WiFi, 100 mbps  compared to 1000 mbps for wired to be in charge. EVER! Even if
the wired nic is only 100 mbps, some cheep junk laptops have the indecency to come with a 100 mbps nic instead of a Gigabit, the Wired is still better 99.99999% of the time.
And one last thing this IS THE ONLY REAL ACCEPTABLE ANSWER to the original question, and all the others just like it who EXPECT, with GOOD REASON, that COMMON SENSE, would be in charge NOT ignorance and defective designs, and that AT ALL TIME WIRED RULES
    OVER WIFI.
Hope this helps, it is time to insist that MS do their job AND FIX THE DESIGN DEFECT!!!!!!!!!
    Ralph
PS Not all systems have switches on the outside for disabling the WiFi. My HPs don't and trying to train all the users on how to MANUALLY disable it and when to do so etc is like trying heard flock of sparrows, it's not happening, NOR SHOULD IT NEED TO!

I just got my cable company to switch my wireless router to a wired one considering now I have the wireless airport device (the newest one) but now I can't get a wireless signal. The router works when directlyplugged in,the aiport wireless device is green. I've tried going through my new MacBook Pro settings and it the diagnostics check, it says network changes detected, I tell it that it "yes" does connect to a cable modem, it tells me to restart it, after I do it asks if there are any other devices hooked up ( firewall) and when I say no it tells me that it can't fix the problem.
Now I know that I probably have a new IP address because of the cable company switching the boxes but it was working fine with the other box, now there isn't a signal to be had on it!
