7606 rommon mode

I have question here
I tried to perform password recovery on cisco 7606 router with SUP720 3BXL card and followed the procedure from cisco as
1.sequence break -  depends of your keyboard
2.rommon1> -  confreg 0x2142
3 rommon2> reset
but the router did not ignore the config and went back to its running config
Any suggestions or comments are appreciated

i found out the solution for this
in 6509/ 7606  with SUP or RSP card - first SP boot and then RP take control
Wait for the Console message
- %OIR-6-CONSOLE: Changing console ownership to route processor
when RP boots and then press sequence break to go in the rommon mode and perform the standard steps for password recovery
I was able to  password recover successful

  • ASA 5505 Keeps rebooting after trying to load image in ROMMON mode

    Hi,
I erased my image to upgrade but my ASA was shut down half way though, so I found myself in ROMMON mode.
I was able to upgrade my image once in rommon mode but I found I had an incorrect version so I went through the whole process again. Since trying to load a new image I have been constanly receiving the 'Use Break or Esc to interrupt boot. Use SPACE to begin boot immediatly'.
I can connect to my TFTP server and load the image but it always reboots, or if I select ESC it just goes back to ROMMON mode.
    Any thoughts??

I had to do 2 things, one replace memory and the second is set VLAN=untagged, then I could ping the server and tftpdnld would work.

    Hello Sr,
It is possible that we may a faulty appliance nevertheless try the next action plan:
1- Change the config register to 0x2102
       --Check the settings
       rommon>set
       --Clear the current boot variable
       rommon>unset boot
       rommon>confreg 0x2102
       rommon>reset
If does not fix the issue follow step 2:
2- Connect the management port to access a tftp server.
You will see a message that a physical link is established
--Issue the set interface gi1 or fa1
       --rommon>set interface fa1 x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0
DG to use to get to the TFTP server
       --rommon>set ip route default x.x.x.x
3- Check that the configs which have been made and test connectivity
       rommon>set
       rommon>ping x.x.x.x
4- Once the ping to the tftp is successful, you can issue the boot tftp to specify the image:
       rommon>boot tftp://x.x.x.x/
If the switch comes up we need to copy the image onto the bootflash and change the boot variable again and wr
RMA will the last option if no luck.

  • Sup720 booting into rommon mode

new sup720 drops into rommon mode. config reg is 2102 and boot system command points to right image located in sup-bootflash:

You might need to upgrade your ROMMON. We did with our brand new Sup720's. Below is the procedure we use. Please pardon the formatting. If you see "invalid ..." after the "show rom slot n sp" you need to load ROMMON code (available from Cisco's downloads). Good luck.
    ROM Upgrade (650x)
1 sh rom slot 5 sp Display current ROM settings
2 copy tftp:c6ksup3-rm2.srec.8.4.2 sup-bootflash:c6ksup3-rm2.srec.8.4.2 TFTP the file to the 650x
3 upgrade rom slot 5 sp pref region[1 | 2] Command to switch regions to boot ROMMON from. Upgrade that too or leave at old version.
4 upgr rom slot 5 sp file sup-bootflash:c6ksup3-rm2.srec.8.4.2 Upgrades current preferred ROMMON region
5 repeat step 3 for other region After successfully upgrading to the new version do the other one too.

rommon invalidate F1 Command to invalidate a ROMMON region

  • Cisco 1310 Access Point Rommon Mode

    Hello,
So I have a Cisco 1310 Access Point that is in Rommon mode. I have the image on the Access point but I did not use the archive download command to extract it. When I use the
    tar -xtract flash://c1310-k9w7-tar[1].124-25d.JA2.tar flash:
command It gets close to the end but doesnt finish saying there isnt enough space. When I try to delete the file using delete flash://
c1310-k9w7-tar[1].124-25d.JA2 it wont allow me saying I do not have permission. I tried the rmdir command as well but had no luck. It wont allow me to use the tags /f /r for forceful and recursive, it doesnt recognize them. Anyone know how to delete a directory in rommon mode on an the 1310 access point?
    Thanks

The delete /recursive /force flash:/ is what I use.  You might try to delete these files also:
    ap:delete flash:private-configap:delete flash:private-multiple-fs

  • Access server not displaying ROMMON mode target device

    Hi All,
I'm encountering a curious problem (or I'm overlooking something).
I'm configuring a console server for configuring remote devices. This is working well except for the fact that if a target device is in ROMMON mode, the console server refuses to displays the target device console. It does open the connection but the ROMMON prompt is not shown on the console server . This is essential for this device as we will need to use it to reset passwords remotely and thus need to be able to access ROMMON mode from the console server.
Parts used are a 2951 router and a HWIC-8A serial card. Does anyone has some ideas?

  • Boot from rommon mode

    Hi...
I have a serious issue...My WAN router was crashed after a power failure. When I restart the router it is directly going to rommon mode..
    I run the following commands:
    rommon 2 > confreg
    rommon 3 > reset
    rommon 1 > dir flash:
    rommon 2 > boot flash:imgname.bin
But still its showing the software is crashed and again going to rommon mode.
What can be problem? Is it the problem with flash. But I can all the required files inside flash

You must be accessing the router through the console or you would not be able to do the rommon stuff

  • Cisco 878 "priv" command password recovery in Rommon mode

    Hi,
There was " Cookie information corrupt" error on cisco 878 and I enter cookie information with cookie command. The priv command password is "0000" when all cookies zero, but I inserted wrong cookies . I want to edit cookie information. The priv command password changed and I can't edit cookie informations.
How can I recovery priv command password in rommon ?
    Thanks for help,

    Hi friends,
I solved problem.   You must add the first five numbers in 16-bit hex in cookies :
    Sample :
    00
    01
    +
    00
    30
    +
    85
    d7
    +
    e0
    60
    +
    0a
    ff
    =        17167
The password is only four characters, so remove the most significant bit  and the password is 7167.

I think your AP is dead.  My recommendation is to RMA the AP and you could get a free upgrade to a AP1260.

  • CTRL+break doesn't work, cannot boot on Rommon.

    GoodDay to All,
Im using a 1750 router, and then i upgrade it to higher version, after
then i reload it, the problem it does not goes to start-up mode or
even the rommon mode, not enough memory to load the image, it always
    rebooted after the self-decompressing image,
I try to stop it using the CTRL+Break, but it doesn't work.
    Here are the error message.

    INSUFFICIENT MEMORY TO LOAD IMAGE!
The difference between Memory required and Memory available is the additional
memory you need to run the router. Alternately, use a smaller image; this
may cause the memory requirement to decrease, and may allow you to at least
use the router with reduced functionality until you get more memory.

    Thanks,
    Lester

    Hi Lester,
After trying all the above suggestions, if you still are facing issues then open the router's box and take out the Flash SIMM... it will try to look for an IOS file thrice and then will fall into rommon automatically
You can use the following link for hardware installation:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/routers/ps221/prod_configuration_guide09186a0080099429.html#wp1077820
After you are in rommon, issue the command "confreg 0x2100" and "reset" the router, you will again go into rommon
Then insert the FLash once again in the chassis and then bootup again, because of config-register 0x2100, the router will go to rommon and then you should check the new IOS that you are trying to install.
Your router should have sufficient amount of DRAM to load that IOS, infact it'll help if you post the exact file names of the previous IOS and the new IOS along with your routers DRAM and Flash Capacity (But this is a secondary task which we can think of once you are able to go into rommon)

Am I doing something wrong or is it generally impossible to load an IOS via TFTP to a 3550?
    Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure you can't boot from a TFTP server with the Catalyst 3550 (or any of the other standalone access switches - 2950, 3550, 3560 3750 etc). If you want to recover one you need to recover it using XModem via the console:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_tech_note09186a0080169696.shtml
I used to think you had to do this at 9600-baud, however you can increase the baudrate and it only takes 10-20 minutes (I couldn't get 115200 to work but 57600 worked OK and took about 20-minutes).
You need to remember to put the baud rate back to 9600 when the image is back on as it gets stored in NVRAM and reboots etc are at the stored speed (i.e. changing it after it has booted under the line con 0 doesn't get saved to NVRAM).

  • 7206 ROMMON ISSUE

    Hi there ,
we got some issues, that tftpdnld and xmodem command is not showing in Rommon mode .
    ReadOnly ROMMON version is:
System Bootstrap, Version 12.3(4r)T1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
    TAC Support: http://www.cisco.com/tac
Copyright (c) 2003 by cisco Systems, Inc.
    No upgrade ROMMON version present
    ReadOnly ROMMON currently running
ReadOnly ROMMON is selected for next boot
    rommon 27 > tftpdnld
    monitor: command "tftpdnld" not found
    rommon 28 >

    Hi,
Have a look at this method as I dont see any support for tftpdnld for 7200s
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/1600-series-routers/6301-rommon-boot-image.html
Obviously your flash etc is not "1600"
