845pe-max2 raid(ms6704)

Hello all,
I just brought a 845pe-max2 raid(ms6704). I do not want to use the raid-want to use IDE3 & IDE4 as regular IDE's. Is there a jumper on this board to set it to normal or raid?  Any help would be so good.
Thanks

I was on the forum searching for some tips or tricks for the 845PE Max2 and stumbled into this thread.  What a FIND!
I had reservations about setting up a raid configuration, I thought it looked too complicated.
BUT thanks to the great link provided above, it went SUPER!
Zip drives just tend to be bucky on some motherboards, but now I can set the Zip on its own cable, so it can't bother anything else!
Thank you!
Nice work experts!

  • 845PE MAX2 , RAID and SCSI

Hi, (sorry for my english but i'm french)
I have a serious problem with my 845PE MAX2 BFIR. When i connect my Adaptec 29160 SCSI card, i can't use the raid controler. It seems to be identical with 2940 card. I tried all the PCI connectors, but same problem.
It seems that Promise fastrack133lite is a Promise fastrackTX2000 controler, and at Promise website, they post a new bios :
    FastTrakTX2000 BIOS 60.96KB  2.00.0.28 Windows
     2002/11/13
Description Fixes EDBA problem on some motherboards. Symptoms include not being able to boot to the boot device (floppy, CD, etc.). This symptom may be more prevalent if there is also another controller, such as a SCSI adapter, in the system.
but it's impossible to flash it, MSI has to integrate it in the mobo's bios.
    Please help !
    Thanks.

appears it was tested with version b

  • 845PE Max2 RAID with 2 80 GB Harddisk from different Manufacturer

sorry for my bad english first
    i have a 845PE Max2 and i want to create a RAID 1 System with my 2 Harddisks. I have a Western Digital 80 GB (7200, 8MB Cache, UDMA/100) and a Seagate 80 GB (7200, 8MB Cache, SATA/150).
can i create a RAID with these 2 harddisks or do they have to be absolut identical?

I have two drives from different manufactures in a raid configuration and it works ok as long as they are the same size.
However it is not a RAID 1 configuration it is a RAID 0.
    RAID 0 - combines 2 drives as 1. in my case 2 x 30Gb drives became 1 x 58 Gb drive.
RAID 1 - needs 4 drives the same it would combine 2 drives as above with the other 2 doing the same. The second pair of drives would hold a copy of the first pair so if there was any loss of drive integrity (i.e. failure) the second pair may be used to correct the problem.
As far as I know that is the way it works but please do check around the net for the definitions of RAID configurations
    try
    http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/11242.html
for definition of RAID 0 and RAID 1.

  • SATA RAID setup problem - 845PE Max2 FISR

    Hi,
I have tried to switch from XP made RAID 1 (striping) to BIOS (SATA) supported one.
    1. Detached 2xIBM 80G disks from IDE1
    2. Attached a ViPower VP-9041 SATA to Ultra ATA (33/66/100/133) converter to each.
    3. Changed the jumper on the slave disk to master.
    4. Attached the disks to the SATA ports.
    5. At boot checked if SATA is enabled in the BIOS - OK. (Not too many or sophisticated options can be found in my bios, see below.)
Originally the a 40GB Maxtor on IDE3 (supported by the Promise 376 SATA chipset as well) used for XP SP2 boot - it remained this way.
At first boot FastTrak BIOS detected IDE3 (as before) and scanned for other IDE drives, but detected only one of the two 80 GB SATA converted disks.
At later boots, neither SATA disks detected, but I got the folowing message from FastTrak BIOS:
Warning- FastTrak does not detect proper interrupts. Please check your PCI IRQ settings, and make sure the PCI slot supports Bus Master operations.
IDE3 disk detected correctly and the system can boot from it.
If I remove ony one of the SATA disks, no warning from BIOS, but the other SATA disk is not detected either.
Any hint? (Changing PCI Bus Master state in the BIOS to either enable or disable does not matter.)
    My BIOS is AMI 3.31a.

Now I got another 845PE-MAX2-FISR from the dealer, and this one works!!
So the conclusion is, the other 845PE-MAX2-FISR coursed the ram error...

    Ofcourse its a legal one!

  • 845PE max2 fisr( Raid config)

Hi there, i'm new to this forum and have a few Q's
Just bought 845PE Max2 mobo so far no prob's.
Pc is to replace the ageing PIII 866 i815EP in my studio.
    Spec of new machine is:
    845PE max 2 fisr
    PIV 2.4/533
    1024  PC2700 ddr
    nVidia geForce Ti 4200
    Creamware PulsarII DSP sound.
    2 x Seagate Barracuda ATA 100/7200 h/d
Here is the question, How do I set up the hard disks to work in  RAID 0 config?
Both disks are parallel ATA 100, and mobo only has one parallel RAID socket. can I use the second drive on the IDE bus alongside the one on the RAID bus and configure them to stripe data when writing multi-track audio files, or do I have to get a serial ATA drive?
And why are there only three RAID connectors when raid works in multiples of 2 disks?
The throughput of striped data transfers will increase my studios output but I have a limited knowledge of RAID.
Would I be better getting a seperate boot disk for O/S and programs and using the said H/D's for audio data?
I would appreciate any help with this. Am I just stupid or is the mobo manual a little vague on the subject
    Cheers ! L8ers.

You need either 1xS.ATA+1xP.ATA or 2xS.ATA.
It is possible to find S.ATA converters for the drives, but they aren't very cheap.
Since you intend to use the RAID for more than just braging about your PC Mark scors I think you might want to consider a real PCI RAID controller with 128/256MB PC133 SDRAM onboard cache.
They cost around 100-150$ and give a much higher real life throughput.

  • Driver for 845pe max2 for Wondows 2003 and Linux Redhat 9 for the Raid

I Have a 845pe max2 and I install the o.s Windows 2003 and I use the drivers of windows 2000 it looks that is working ok but it is not certify can any one tell me where I can download the new drivers for Windows 2003 and for Linux redhat 9

    for linux:
The distributions usually have most drivers compiled as modules which should be loaded automaticly at boot.
If not, try a later version or you would have to compile your own kernel, as documentated in the Kernel HOWTO

  • WinXP and MSI 845PE MAX2

    Got the following problem.
    I've just purchased an MSI 845PE MAX2 (MS-6704) with a PIV 2,4ghz 533 processor and 512mb DDR PC2700.
Onboard USB/FIREWIRE/LAN and ATA133raid are enabled. My graphics card is a Matrox G400 which is using IRQ10.
    I have 3 HDD's installed together with 1 DVD-ROM and 1 3,5" diskdrive.
I have WinXP proffesional installed without any servicepack.
When I boot my system, everythings goes fine. I see the XP bootscreen and so. After the bootscreen, the pc normally goes to the sign-in screen. Well not for me.
After the bootscreen my monitor goes black, not standby just black and the system doesn't do anything.
Booting in save mode is no problem.
I have also disabled all the onboard stuff and booted the system with only my graphicscard in it. There is no IRQ that is used twice.
    Can somebody help me?
    thx

    Yeah, strange isn't?!
I've installed the RAID drivers during installation (HIT F6 if you want to install a third party driver)
Finished installation, restarted the pc and it gave this problem.
    So for short:
    Builded a new pc.
    Everything worked.
Installed WinXP on a new HDD (80gb WD)
Made 1 partition of 8gb NTFS, the rest is unallocated.
Installed WinXP without any service packs
    XP installed the drivers for:
USB/FIREWIRE/LAN/RAID/SOUND and also for some PCIcards: SCSIcard without bios, SB Live.
I had also a Pinnacle TVcard placed in the system but XP doesn't have any drivers included for it.
    After finishing installation, rebooted.
    XP wouldn't start.
    Removed all pci cards.
    same problem
    disabled USB/FIREWIRE/LAN/SOUND
    still the same problem.
Maybe a driver problem of a pci card which I removed but still is 'installed' in XP?

  • 845PE Max vs 845PE Max2

    Hello to the forum,
Not yet an MSI user I'am new to this group. I have a little question.
I have ordered a 845PE Max2 MB. Now my supplier lets me know he can only deliver 845PE Max. Can anyone say something about the differences of these borads?
    TIA

Max2 has hardware based sound vs software on the Max.
Max2 has OPTIONAL gigabit LAN, RAID and firewire.
    Max has OPTIONAL 100Mbit LAN
If you compare the basic models there is only the soundcard to tell them apart, but when comparing the loaded versions the Max2 is much better.

  • MSI 845PE Max2 (MS-6580 v2.0) Help Please!

    OK... I'm confused  ?(
    Well... I got the MSI 845PE Max2 - L (MS-6580 v2.0) on
order. Now I'm reading that alot of peeps having so
    many problems with it!  8o
I just read a reply from Assaf saying that the board was SUED?
First off, what does this mean?
Should I return this board when it arrives or keep it?
Also, Im a little unclear of the difference between the
    845PE Max2 (MS-6704) & the 845PE Max2 (MS-6580 v2.0)
Why are there 2 Different models that both say 845PE Max2?
    NOTE:
    I plan on using my Crucial DDR 333 (2 x 256MB) & a PIV 2.40 (533MHz FSB).
    My other Specs are below.....
    Any help will be appreciated.
I rather not even open the box if this board has MAJOR problems.[/color]

Uhmm i think you are mixing boards
There is no such board (at least not yet) as a 845pe-max2 version 2.0 there is a 845pe-max version 2. There is some difference between the max and the max2 board. The max version only has room for two dimms, no bluetooth/raid and gigabit support. So you are talking about two completely different boards but with very similar names I'm not a motherboard expert but i have tried the max2 version (6704) and i wasn't completely satisfied, cpu temp is way off, bios upgrade caused wierd problems, when using my adaptec 2940uw controller raid bios disappers. I think this is a result of the companies releasing their products to soon, as far as i can tell (and i have been reading a bit ) all 845pe based motherboards have their problems. When you ask what to buy everyone is saying asus p4pe, i for one think that asus is overpriced and i really don't wanna waste money on a serial ata solution which has no future. Their onboard audio isn't suported by freebsd. I have not decided quite yet, i was actually rather satisfied with my msi 845pe max2, it has a lot of nice features and i like msi liveupdate, the board runs perfectly with other os's than windows, but i will see some response from msi regarding those problems there is,
and currently i'm awating to see if msi will release a bios that perhaps will fix those problems i (and alot others) had with this board.

  • Confusion: SATA on 845PE Max2 ?

OK, I'm a little confused here
    A couple of months ago, I bought a MSI 845PE Max2 (with SATA/RAID onboard)
At that time, my old IBM-ATA133-Hard disk was working fine, but now it's giving some problems, and I want to buy a new disk.
I was thinking about buying a SATA-disk (maxtor, 120Gb), but I don't get this: can I just plug this new disk on my motherboard, install my OS, an go?
Or does SATA only work in a RAID-setup?
and if it works without RAID, does it work the same as an old IDE-drive? (Buy disk => plug in => set as boot device => install OS)

    So in other words:
    1) I plug the disk into a serial ATA-connector
    2) I boot with the win2000-install CD
    3) When asked wether I want to install a RAID-controller, I press F6 and insert the disk that came with my mobo
    4) I install windows2000 just like before
    5) Ready to rock
    Is this correct?
And how does this work when I want to create a dualboot (windows98 / windows2000 for example)?

  • 845PE BFIR Raid

    Help
Just assembles a new system MSI845PR BFIR, 512corsair dram, 2 new WD 80MB
special edition 8m cach  drives -  ATI 8500 vid.
Trying to configure a raid 0 striping array with the 2 drives.
On booting after selecting CTR-F to enter raid setup screen shows "NO DRIVES
    DETECTED".
I have them connected to IDE3 and 4  and both set as master.
    Checked raid enabled in Bios
Checked that drives work OK in IDE1 and 2.
Checked used 80wire cables that came with board.
Cant think of anything else. anyone any ideas
    Thanks in advance
    Superkev

FYI...I still have had no luck.
For me, (WD Special Edition on a single cable + 845PE Max2 MB in IDE3), still get the pop-up in the FastBuild Utility when choosing Auto-Setup that flashes "No Avaialble Disks!".
I have tried the jumper set on my HD to (individually) "Single, CS, and none" and still get this problem.  The use of the HD seems to be fine however
and I am running Windows XP and FastCheck just fine.
Can anybody offer any advice on why FastBuild cannot detect my HD?

  • Problem with 845PE Max2 & Saphire 9000Pro

    Hello everyone!!!
    I have a little problem.
    3 days ago I change 845E max m/b to 845PE Max2.
And I have a problem with Saphire 9000Pro.
When I install Intel Chipset Driver I cannot install Ati drivers.
When I install Ati driver, then install Intel Chipset INF , but windows hang on, crashen and something like that.
With 845E Max this problem doesn't exist.
    What's going on.
I have problem with m/b or with Saphire 9000Pro.
    Please HELP!!!! ;(

Look in the bios PNP settings for "assign IRQ to VGA" and be sure it's enabled.
Did you do a clean OS install when changing boards?

  • Immediate boot after shutdown on 845pe max2

Got my brand new PC with a MSI 845PE MAX2 mainboard (MS-6704) in an AOPEN casing. Problem: if i select shutdown in WinXPpro the machine shuts down (even power-led is off). And then immediately it boots/starts again.
What could this be? I already removed all unnecessary cards, network connection, modem, second HDU, unplugged all USB devices. Turned off APM in the BIOS setting. Changed to an older type keyboard and mouse. Still same problem. All lastest drivers installed, lates BIOS (AMI 1.2) installed. All Xp service packs extra patches are installed.
Any suggestions? Switchg from S3 to S1 mode in ACPI standbystate doesnt make any difference. Turning off ACPI is a bad idea, as the machine wont boot XP anymore.
Pressing the on/off button the machine shuts down as expected and doesnt turn itself on anymore. Where can i find more info on the S1, S3 modes etc?

Indeed it was a faulty powersupply. I tried with a Qtec 400W and that one works perfectly. So thank you Assaf for the suggestion. I already tries all i could find in all newsgroups, just this was my last resort. Now to convince my supplier to get me a decent (quiet) powersupply!

  • Keyboard-WAKE/BOOT-UP with 845PE Max2 (v2.0) ??

Maybe you got this question before, but:
Is it NOT possible to start/boot this motherboard by using the keyboard??
I have not seen any options in the BIOS (flashed to the latest v3.1)... however - there's an option to use the keyboard to wake-up from the S3-state (stand-by)... but that's not really useful for me!
I want to power-on the machine by using the keyboard and/or mouse only!!! (The PSU handles 2A on the 5VSB trail)
I thought this was standard on most motherboards nowadays but I can't really see this on the MSI 845PE Max2...
Have I missed something out?  (Is this a BIOS issue only? The realtime-clock-power-on the system works just fine - so I suppose the keyboard feature could be implemented fairly easy??)
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Tobias Nilsson

Gosh, I've tried it!  S3 state is not an option!!! (but S1 is?)
What I want is simply this (one scenario of many):
    * plug in the power to the psu/computer
    * turn the damn thing on using the keyboard!
(that's because I'm using a fine logitech cordless keyboard and I'm just so cool  :]  I don't want/need to pressing the "power-on" button on the computer case!)
Gosh, I've done this on the MSI (k7n420) and the ASUS motherboards for years...
Well, guess I've to talk to MSI... (wish me luck...)
