865PE best Ram?

I would love to hear about your experience with Ram.
I like to overclock 1:1 Ram/FSb divider cause i think it gives the best overall
results. So my normal value pc3200 ram is limiting me to about 215 FSB.
So iam now thinking about buying a pc 3500 or pc 4000 - 2 sticks of 512mb.
My current goal is about 230-240 FSB (3,45ghz - 3,6ghz) which should run fine
24/7 on air cooling for the normal daily use.
So please let me know a goo working ram (with a good buying value).
Thanks.

You can read my signature as well. I am running 5:4 though and as you can see sestan's numbers are higher than mine. I have some of my O/C details over Here.

    Hello
Im wondering that you want to upgrade to 8GB RAM... Normally 3 or 4GB should be more as enough for all applicaions at the moment.
Anyway, as Jayjay said its not possible to upgrade to 8GB. A friend of me has a Satellite A300 and the user manual says that it can upgrade to 4GB or 2GB (depending on the chipset). So if you have a PM965/GM965/RS690M chipset you can upgrade it to 4GB. Otherwise you can only use up to 2GB.
I have upgraded my Toshiba notebook with Kingston RAM. This is high quality RAM and has a good compatibility. I never had problems with such modules.
    Check this!!

Based on the information that you have supplied, you have a Early or Late 2008 MBP.  Maximum RAM that it will accept is 6 GB with the following specifications:   200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • Best RAM configuration for Macbook (mid 2007)

Hi, I have a Macbook (mid 2007) with 1 GB ram and I would like to upgrade. Currently I have 2x512MB, so both of my memory slots are taken. Is it a good idea to have one 512MB card and a 2GB card in the other slot? Otherwise, what is the best RAM configuration for a mid 2007 macbook?
I am also looking into purchasing this memory card for my macbook, is this a good choice?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Yes, I read the figure 128 in regards to the benefit. Something about interleaving, maybe?
In doing a Google search for that article I saw, I found this:
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/99215-4gb-ram-my-macbook.html
the maximum amount of RAM your laptop can take is 3.3GB. So while you can physically insert 4GB of RAM, OS X will only be able to see 3.3GB of it.
But I don't know how knowledgeable that poster is who says it can utilize 3.3 GB. I do know that the full 4 GB shows up in the System Profiler on my MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz.

  • Best ram for macbook pro 2011?

I am thinking about upgrading my macbook pro 2011 with 8gb or 16gb (overkill?) of ram. Which is the best ram/bang for the buck?

I upgraded to Crucial 16 GB on my MB Pro 6 months ago and have never, ever, even once been sorry or less than amazed.
Of course, a Crucial 512 GB SSD does not hurt, either. They work together seamlessly.  Nice Mac, nice Mac.
12 seconds to boot up from full Shut Down? Too cool ............................................................................... ..
    Leonardosanti says.
PS FYI: My old Apple-supplied 500 GB hard drive is now separately enclosed and makes an excellent full backup. Using SuperDuper to clone, it is bootable albeit as a spinning disc hard drive it runs much slower. Had my old Snow Leopard system and files on it. Jumped to a clean install of Mountain Lion. Did all this myself, glad its done, whew, successfully. The Ram and the SSD are gems, like the Crucial support people.
PPS Yes, these were expensive improvements. Ouch but ... Worth it.

  • Best Ram for audio and video

This has probably been discussed here many times, I did a search and didn't really find an answer so here goes
What is the best ram to put in a G5 2.5 dual. does quality vary much from company to company. I have heard of a few horror stories about buying cheap ram and Apples pro apps (Logic) did not run properly. So for those of you that have been through it, let me know what your experiences are
    Thanks

Hello! Buy guaranteed ram from a reputable company such as Crucial or OWC. I've got cheap Kingston ram for a compaq for my G4 running 10.3.9 with no problems but I like to tinker and I'll try anything once. If you're not a tinkerer stick to the qualifications previous. Tom

  • -ilsr, best ram advice for sys build

Im building what i hope will be a worry free system for my mother, and want basically to just shove the bits in and watch it fly, trouble is, as this board is a bi(r)tch  for ram, i wanted to know what the best ram on a budget would be, ive heard crucial isnt too bad, kingston not so bad but mushkin? finding uk suppliers is tough

See my sticky post regarding Good Memory choices at the top of the forum...
I wouldn't depend on a 350W supply to run my system these days...it's too close to the line and this motherboard is power hungry...add in a middle of the road video card and you may just intermittent yourself to death and end up bald like Bas *chuckles* Intermittent meaning that the system will do random reboots, shut down, etc...
Everything else looks decent tho...memory is such a crapshoot regardless of what middle of the line brand that you buy...if you buy high end then it's not a big deal...
    Good luck to you!!

  • Amd64 best ram?

    Whats the best ram for a AMD64 rig , with a 3800+ , and X800xt pe??
i thought of buying the Corsair TWINX XL 512*2 CL2, cuz of theyr tight timings. but isnt PC3200 the max for a MSI k8N neo 54 G ultra?, one guy told me that u can use better memorys like PC4400 if u update bios , is this true?

Best to refer to MSI's test report for the Neo2...I find it better to start with a sure thing when it comes to memory. That way I know the system is good....then I may tinker with timings, or totally different RAM!!!!

  • Best Ram Choice For P7N2 Diamond

Hi there people just need some expert advice on the best RAM for a P7N2 Diamond board. I am mainly interested in the Kingston HyperX series and would like to know what is the fastest ram they make that is compatible for this board.
Also they make SLI and T1 heat spreader model varients.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply. Would this ram be good:
    http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX12800D3K2_4G.pdf
They also do the SLI ready ram which is clocked a little bit higher and has lower timmings.
Each module has been tested to run at DDR3-1600MHz at a low latency timing of 9-9-9-27 at 1.7V to 1.9V.
The SPDs are programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1066Mhz timing of 7-7-7-20 at 1.5V.
Think twice before buying something like that.

  • Best RAM to buy for a 27" 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7?

    Dear all
I'm brand new to Apple computers and would therefore appreciate any advice you can offer relating to RAM.
    I will soon be purchasing a 27" 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 complete with 2TB hard drive.
I also plan on purchasing 2x4gb RAM sticks separately but from reviews that I've read I see that not all ram is created equally...
Thus far I have discovered the following brands: Kingston, Komputerbay and Crucial. I would be most obliged if someone could let me know what the best brand is for the ram... I have found Komputerbay to be the cheapest but I've read a review from someone who said they didn't find it to be a good performer so that made me think it's best to pay a bit more.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing your replies
    Kind regards
    Kate
P.S. I'm based in the UK

    Dear all
Thank you for your prompt responses - most appreciated!
Roger, I was particularly pleased with your answer as last night (after much internet research) I decided to go with Crucial... They were also offering a 10% off 'one day only' discount which seemed too good to miss! I purchased the RAM for a good price: £198 including discount for 2x4gb sticks - the same RAM averaged £250 on Amazon.
I will be ordering the iMac on Friday. Doubtless I will be back online thereafter to clarify that I have installed the RAM correctly; I haven't ever installed RAM before but given how easy it looks and the cost savings involved I thought I'd have a crack at it!
In total I will be running with 12gb RAM - no idea whether I actually need that much or not but I'd rather buy the best of everything from the outset so that I don't need to tweak things at a later date... Also thought a high amount of RAM would be advantageous given the screen size etc.
    Again, thanks to you all.

  • Best ram config; 6GB

I just ordered 1GBx4 to go with my 512MBx4. Can someone tell me which is the best setup?
    A) From what I've read on these forums, I believe that the best setup is to put all the 1GB sticks into slots 1&2 on both risers, and move all the 512MB sticks into slots 3&4.
    B) Less acceptable would be to populate riser "A" with the 1GB sticks, and riser "B" with the 512MB sticks.
    C) And the least acceptable would be to populate riser "B" with the 1GB sticks, and riser "A" with the 512MB sticks.

Generally speaking I don't recommend the purchase and use of 2GB DIMMs unless you're wanting 8GB RAM or more. The reason is that it unbalances your riser configurations way to much to be more effective than smaller 512MB or 1GB DIMMs. If all you wanted was 5GB RAM you would have gotten better overall performance from a 4 x 1GB DIMM purchase instead.
In your case I would recommend putting the 2 x 2GB into Riser A and 2 x 512MB into Riser B. The only other option you have is to swap them around with the 2GB DIMMs in Riser B and the 512MB DIMMs left in Riser A. As the Mac Pro favours Riser A you are better off with your larger/better RAM in that riser.

  • Bad Drives-Best RAM

    Hi,
A twofer if I can for my curiosity, and for others here too I think. The first I'll be looking for an answer after I post this, but I'll appreciate any personal, hands on info I can get. The second would be for those unfamiliar with the better names used by the Discussion members here.
So, One, are there any symptoms or signs that an HD is failing? Quirks, problematic behavior, loss of speed?
Do they generally go quick or can it take awhile? If it takes awhile, what would the best utility to keep track of it be? Would Apple Hardware Test show a problem?
Disk Utility is ok but it seems to lack in depth.
Two, I'd like to know what everyone's preference for RAM is. What manufacturers are considered the best? What do you consider the best?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I believe Kingston and Crucial are manufacturers of the modules, but I don't know if they are chip manufacturers. Micron, the owner of the Crucial brand, is a chip manufacturer (like Hynix - part of Hyundai - or Samsung, for example.) There are literally dozens of chip manufacturers scattered around the world. Many are pretty large Asian firms. I'm not sure where they actually manufacture the chips or the modules, but it seems nowadays almost all that stuff is marked "Made in China."
In my experiences, which date back to 1981 when the chips were all made by Texas Instruments in Texas, I've use all kinds of memory from lots of different sources. I've never actually had any memory go bad or come DOA. I don't think you can make RAM "poorly" because constant failures would erode one's market in a big hurry. Considering the large number of suppliers and a very diverse demand I wouldn't think making a poor product would be very profitable.
Yes, I agree, if you don't know what to buy then buying by brand isn't a bad idea. After all we do that with other products why not with computers and RAM. Makes good sense to me. Businesses thrive on differentiating their brand to the consumer. The only problem for us consumers is when the brand's products aren't that good, but they've convinced us to buy anyway because of the brand. That certainly was the view of U.S. car makers for a long while. Eventually the strategy turned on them. Now they may be fighting a losing battle to win back consumer confidence.
But enough of that digression. I've been pleased to find a RAM vendor from whom I can buy with confidence and get a good price without paying a premium for a name. And my experience with them suggests that buying a brand name is no more a guarantee of quality than paying the highest price. My usual advice is buy RAM on price, buy only RAM that carries a lifetime warranty (guarantee,) and buy from a reputable vendor. Oh, and stay away from "labeled" RAM. Some electronic parts retailers sell RAM that carries their own brand name. I'd stay away from them. They usually do not carry a lifetime warranty. And I tend to stay away from a product that's been labeled as "Economy RAM" for the same reason - no lifetime warranty.
    All my pleasure, Steve.
