8700 SIM question

Hi Everyone
I don't know very much about this topic, so I apologize in advance if this is a silly question.
My employer gave me a BB 8700 to use many years ago. I would like to upgrade the phone, but they don't see any reason to as it is still working. If I choose to purchase a newer phone on my own dime, can I just take the SIM out of the 8700 and put it into the new phone? I've had colleagues tell me that is all that is needed, but it just seems too easy.
Any help is really appreciated!

Keyword, employer. Are you on a corporate BES account?
If so, does your BES Admin support another device, whatever you upgrade to?
If you are on a BES, after moving the SIM from one device to the new, you will need a new BES activation password, provided from your BES Admin. It's their network you are on, so they have every right to govern what devices are on the network.
Otherwise, if they don't care, there's no issue. Moving the SIM is all that you need to do.
Along with a backup of the 8700 (using the BlackBerry Desktop Software), and you can use the Desktop Software's Switch Device Wizard to move everything from the old device to the new.

  • Selling old iPhone 3g - erased, removed sim questions for new buyer

I have an old 3g that we have service turned off on, i did the erase all content thing and removed the sim, phone restared and said I needed to hook it up to itunes and it needed the sim againput the sim back in, got the phone back to what looks like day one (then removed the sim after itunes set it up as a new phone vs using exsiting restore or backup).
So now the phone has no sim and everything appears to be there in terms of the basic apps nothing i can see has any of my info or history on it.
My question is if I sell this like this how does the new buyer install apps on it thru the app store, i can access wifi and watch youtube stuff but when I tried to install a free app but it just keeps asking for existing or new acct, if they setup a new acct and that 3g has no sim card will they be able to access and download content to it (also if they setup a new acct in itunes can they purchase apps with that too)?
I am pretty tech dumb when it comes to that sort of thing, noting sensitive on the phone realy even before the erase, but if i sell it like this I just didnt want the new buyer to somehow be able to buy apps on my acct (the itunes existing acct stuff is all blank I checked it), but i do want them to be able to get apps on the phone for their own use thru wifi so I am guessing they just have to create their own itunes acct and then even without the sim it would let them grab apps?
Or do they need a sim, if so will att give them a blank or is the phone basically useless without it (I thought I heard never give out my sim even tho the phone is deactivated I wasnt sure on security).
Thanks for anyone who can clear this up for me, don't wanna sell it and find out i didn't follow some rule of safety for my own acct etc.

In that order and you're good. I've never removed a SIM before selling and I haven't had any problems. Also they would need a new SIM to activate sevice so any potential for your information going to the device after sold is gone.
    Hope that helps

  • IPhone Sim Question. Christmas present for the gf

Hi Mac users. Just wanted to clear something up about the iPhone. I have myself an iPhone 3gs. Taken out with contract, phone included, all very simple. Now christmas is rolling around I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with a 3gs also as she's always looking at mine lol. Thing is, she already has a monthly contract using a sony ericsson xperia mini pro (which she hates). Her contract is with Vodaphone. Problem is tho I've heard I can't just surprise her with an iPhone, she pops her sim card in and away she goes. Apparently the sim wont work in an iphone or something and has to be set up by the provider and a different tariff arranged for it to work :/. Can anyone tell me if that information is correct as I am keen on suprising her with it on christmas day. But cant really talk to her provider without her…. and pretty much giving away the surprise. Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    WOW, Lots of questions.
First, I suggest you read the descriptions of the Apple Airport Extrem and Airport Express, the two wireless devices made by Apple, so that you understand the different capabilites of the two.
For your friend, I'm going to assume that you want to connect all the devices wirelessly. This should be possible with his existing wireless router (model?), the XP laptop, iPad, and Epson printer should all be able to reside on the network. The primary issue is printing from the Apple iOS devices (iPad, iPhone).  As you may be aware, the best and easiest solution is to have a printer that is AirPrint compatible, or purchase something like the Lantronics xPrintServer, which allows USB and network printers that are not AirPritn compatible to be used with iPads and iPhones. Finally, the Apple Airport Software Utility (there is an Apple OS and an Windows version) will allow you to configure any Apple wireless device (Express or Extreme).
So post back how you intend to connect the devices (ethernet or wirelessly) and what model epson printer you have, is it network capable or just USB? Is it AirPrint compatible?  I can give you more specific help then.
As for your network, yes you connect either the airport Extreme or Express to an existing network. But if all you want to do is add AirPrint capability so that you can easily print from your iPhone or iPad, i'd suggest that you just add an xPrint server or maybe try the NetGear Genie software (runs on a Mac or PC) which is supposed to add airprint capability to any network but requries that a Mac or PC be running on the network in order to use it.
Post back if you have more questions.

  • Sold my 3G, Upgraded to 4 - SIM Questions

I posted this in the 3g section, but realized it probably belongs here. Sorry for the double post...
Ok, I know it's a good idea to remove the sim card but hear me out.
I just upgraded to the iphone 4 and sold my iphone 3g on ebay. The auction has already ended. I made a typo and said that the SIM card was included when I meant to say it wasn't.
So, my question is... does it really matter? I've wiped the data from the phone, restored the phone as new, and wiped again for good measure. My phone number is active on the new micro-SIM in the iphone 4.
Is there any security/privacy issue with shipping the old sim card to the buyer? I've contacted them to let them know, but if it's a moot point I'd rather just ship it than risk the negative feedback.
    Any help is appreciated.

The SIM Card does not store any information unless it's a normal phone to iPhone. If you don't have a SIM Card with the old phone, they can get a SIM Card with their contract. They can also pull out the old SIM Card and put a new one in as long as it's a 3G SIM.
After deactivating the old i3G, the SIM Card becomes useless.

  • T3 Rom Sim question: startup prefs

I've got the T3 ROM Simulator working quite well, but I have one question about an annoying behavior.  EVERYtime I start the Sim, it ALWAYS asks the same startup questions, like in a real T3 that's been reset:  pen calibration, location, date/time, etc.  I would expect a file to be created that would then be accessed by the SIM so I wouldn't have to do it each 'n' every time.  I tried looking in my T3's handheld memory for such a file, but couldn't find anything.
Anyone have a tip how I can either create/copy a file or else turn OFF this function on my SIM?
Thanks very much for any help!
    regards,
    David
    Post relates to: Tungsten T3

    Hello David,
It has been a very long time since I played with a Palm OS simulator.  I would check the simulator application for a setting on how the simulator is configured to statup and exit.  It could be doing a hard reset on start up/shutdown or be configured to run the Out of Box Welcome application each time the simulator is stated.

  • Lost sim question

Hi - I have an Iphone 4S 32 Gig and I'm oversees using a local sim. I have lost my verizon sim and for some reason remember hearing I don't actually need one with the verizon phone in America.  Is that correct?  When I get back to America, will my phone work without the original verizon sim or do I need to go and get a new one?
    thanks,
    Julie

Great question crazylike9! Since the iPhone 4S is a 3G device, a sim is not needed to activate on the Verizon network. Once you return to the United States, you simply will remove the local sim then activate the iPhone 4S back to the network by calling *228 http://vz.to/1bmULfV .

  • Postscript Sim Question for 750C Plus - Do I need it?

Thanks for your help.  I have a nice DJ 750C Plus that I have just upgraded the memory to max, I use a RIP package with it called Production house.  My question is do I need to by the postscript Sim chip? I dont print directly from the computer to the print but always through the RIP.  Will I be able to get a higher DPI with the chip? If so is it just a matter of print @ 600dp instead of 300dpi?
    Thanks!

  • Vibe X2 - Dual Sim - question

    Hi,
I have lenovo vibe x2, with dual sim inserted.
i configured the sim 2 as Super network for 4G/3G.
Sim 1 is works for 2G only.
When i connect data network on Sim 1, always it connects to 'G' - GPRS only. Why not 'E' - EDGE?
    Pls clarify?

Hi Olutoye. It is best to update the software of your phone since updating it to the latest version may fix minor issues you are experiencing with it. Make sure to connect to a stable internet connection. We recommend connecting to an available WiFi when updating the software. We'll wait for your reply.

  • Bought used 822, SIM question

This is my first move to a 4g phone and want to clarify what is needed to activate. Will I need to visit a Verizon store to pick up a new SIM before I activate?

    That's one option.
The second one is to start the process in your MyVerizon account online. There will be a point where it asks you if you have a SIM card. When you answer "No", it will switch to a screen where you can request one and have it shipped to you.
The third option is to call customer service with another phone and request one be shipped to you

  • Removing AT&T Sim - Question!

    Hey!
If you remove the AT&T sim which comes with the iPad, and then after removing it go into the cellular data settings, does the 'My Account' and the option to buy credit from AT&T disappear or does it stay there even with no sim?
    Many thanks guys!

  • Microsoft Flight Sim question

    Hello!
I really would like to play Microsoft Flight Sim on my iMac. I was wondering, if install XP, would Flight Sim work at 100% or should I get a cheap PC?
    Thanks!

Running Windows on a Mac through Boot Camp is no different then running Windows on any other PC. So if Fligh Sim runs on Windows, it will run on your Mac.

  • SIM question: Testing out an Iphone 4s

Is there a way to get a micro SIM from tmobile to test to see if an iphone 4s is factory unlocked? Right now I have a regular sized tmobile SIM in a 3gs, but I dont want to cut it down to test in the 4s and ruin it if it doesent work. Anybody got any clever ideas on how to deal with this dilemma?

What solution? You want a T-Mobile Micro-SIM. You have to get one from T-Mobile.
Putting a T-Mobile SIM in is no gaurantee that it's legitimately unlocked as opposed to hacked. Odds are, especially if you're in the US, that it's hacked. Especially if the price is good. It is possible now to have AT&T iPhones legitimately unlocked. The better method of determining the status would be to call AppleCare, give them the serial number, and ask if they can check.

  • SIM question - gifting an iPhone 3G

I upgraded to the 3G S; giving my old 3G to my mom. I realize with transferring original iPhones (a year ago when 3G came out), AT&T said the SIM card had to be discarded and a new one obtained from AT&T by the user, regardless. But that was the original iPhone and the 3G handles the SIM differently.
So do need to remove my old SIM card from my 3G before sending it to my mom? If no, great! If yes, then can she take the (AT&T) SIM card out of her razr and use it or does she have to go get a new SIM card from AT&T?
The guidance on this was really explicit a year ago, regarding the original iPhone, but I can't find any from AT&T (or Apple) on this, this time around. Can somebody point me to documents/websites that address this gifting of old 3Gs?
    ThanksQ

I have an activated sim card, we were trying to activate a new sim for his phone maybe that was the problem... So if I take my sim out of my phone and put it in the phone it will work?
