9.4: slide show shows only a dozen photos
Hello.
If I press the slide show button at the bottom in any given smart folder or album, slide show is supposed to show the content of the folder/album as a slide show. So it did before 9.4. Now I have major problems with iPhoto:
- before the slide show even starts I sometimes have to wait for 5 minutes while some reading or writing is happening on my external drives (those are not related to iPhoto at all).
- when the slide show eventually starts it will only show a limited number of photos (like about a dozen) instead of all photos in the folder/album. At the end of the 12th or 13th photo you're stuck. The photos are not the problem because they worked in the last iphoto version.
Like this, I can't use slide show at all. I took my library to a friend. Aperture has no problem with my library and slide shows.
Is this just a iPhoto 9.4 bug which I need to wait for Apple to fix (some time next year) or is there any setting I can tweak/reset etc. ?

Problem #1, the incredibly long start time for a slide show incl. heavy reading/writing on external drive, is still there.
How big is your HD and how much free space on it?
(which I also (re-)created with 9.4).
What does that mean?
Plenty. But only Aperture has the OS integration. Not all have Smart Albums. Search on MacUpdate

Titles showing on only a few photos
Just upgraded my MacBook Pro to 10.10.3 the other day and have been exploring Photos.
I always had titles showing in iPhoto, so with Photos, I've selected Metadata > Titles.
The problem is that out of over 2000 photos, only a handful are showing the titles.
Most just show "Untitled" when I mouse over the area just under the photo, even though the title can be seen in the Info window.
Is this a bug?
Or am I missing something?

BarrySo I found out that this is not a problem with the facebook uploader, or facebook, but rather a problem with my library. Apparently the photos that aren't getting uploaded to facebook do not exist, even though they are visible in iphoto.
I used iPhoto libray manager to rebuild my library and about 1500 or so of my images would not copy over. I viewed the console as iphoto library manager suggested, and the messages say that these photos could not be found. Thus the reason they were not getting uploaded to facebook. The album that I was trying to upload (34 pics, 19 showed in facebook) now appears in the rebuilt library with only 19 photos.
So I have a new problem. I originally copied my library from my old iMac (iphoto 06) to my new MacBook Pro. There must have been an issue with copying over the library. -
When I open up iphoto and click on the events tab then double click on an event, it used to show minis of all the photos in that event. Now it shows only one photo at a time. How do I get it back? Can you help?
On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.

Power point slides not showing
I have a rather odd problem. I've got a lengthy pdf which I converted to jpg's. I pasted those jpg's into power point into and then imported the pptx into Captivate 6. All the slides import but only the first 2 jpg's are visible. All of the other slides are blank. I know there's an easier way to do it, by converting the pdf to a pptx, and then import to captivate, but the pdf is mostly text and the text gets jumbled during the conversion. I'm just curious as to why the jpg's are not coming into captivate. And btw, I've also tried it using png's.
If you already have JPG images, why not simply use Captivate's ability to create a Slide Show and just create a project and point at the images?

Hi, I made a slide show with music from 81 photos I downloaded to iphoto from my camera. I would like to burn the slide show to DVD, but can't make this happen. How do I go about doing this?
If the DVD is to play on a DVD Player, then Share -> Send to iDVD as iDVD is the only app that creates the correct file structure and format for this purpose.
If the DVD is just to hold the file, then Export to the desktop and burn with the Finder.

Embedding PDF in Powerpoint - showing filename only not PDF content
Hi all,
I have automated a powerpoint presentation to embed PDF's into a powerpoint presentation...
this all works great but on some machines the content does not show, it only shows as the filename... it is still embeded but I want the content of the PDF to be displayed on the slide... which it does on some machines and I can't see what is different on the PC's that it won't do that on...
The command used to insert the PDF is ...

which is just an insert object from file command...
Further investigation showed that even trying to do this manually still will not bring in the content in... so then as a test i inserted the PDF in an Excel spreadsheet and the same result... content appears on some PC's some just show the filename only...
PS... I don't have the 'Show as icon' checkbox selected when i'm doing this.
Any pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated...

Steve.OK - so Postscript and EPS are programming languages while PDF is not. So it's not the same thing. But I understand the concept.
An XObject is correct - but a Form XObject NOT a reference XObject. If this is for Acrobat, and you want to do this the quick and easy way, then call over to the addWatermark() method in JavaScript and let it do all the heavy lifting for you. Or, for native plugin code in Acrobat, there is the AFPDFormFromPage() API that will also do the work of creating the necessary CosObj for you.
For PDFLibrary, you will need to do the work yourself as there isn't a high level API call. -
Two separate calculated columns - results show up only in one of them

I've recently run into some peculiar behaviour in OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.7.0). I'm using three attribute colums (deliv. on time, ordered, backlog) to calculate a monthly service level. In addition I'm using a customer ID number to separate our customers into export and national customers. I've three calculated columns - Service Level Export, Service Level Total and Service Level National. I'm using a simple case-statement to distinguish between international and national customers (When custID between xxx and yyy then...). The total service level column doesn't have a case-if calculation, only a couple of simple mathematical operations and it works fine.
Now the problem is that the results show up only in one of those calculated columns containing case-if calculations - not both at the same time. Using a prompt in a pivot table I can verify that both columns get proper values but when I remove the prompt half of the values randomly disappear from these columns so that only one of the columns has a value for a specific month. The calculations in all three columns are identical - the only difference is that Serv. L. Exp. exludes a spesific CustID whereas the Serv. L. Nat. only includes that one CustID.
Example - both Serv. L. Exp and Serv. L. Nat should have values for every month, now only one of them gets values

I've a few months of OBIEE experience under my belt so I'm not that experienced but usually I've been able to figure out what's wrong on my own. This time, however, this leaves me dumbfounded. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Serv.L.Nat is calculated 100 * INVOICED / (ORDERED + DELAYED). For National Service Level the case statement (including the calculations) is as follows (the inner CASE limits the Serv.L.Nat per cust to a range of 0 - 100 %):

The icons of my bookmarked websites in the bookmark toolbar doesn's show. Only the names of the websites appear. Only a white icon appears.

Cannot get iPad 2 charged beyond 1%. All charging ports tried: AC adapter(s), USB 2 port on MacBook Pro. ITunes shows iPad only for a few seconds. iPad displays alternately: Apple logo, battery w/slim red band, then battery w/1% charged information. How can I get it to charge beyond 1% so I can proceed to troubleshoot?
I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

You use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) for that job - or upgrade to a later iPhoto.

I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html -
I have iMovie 09. I just erased my external hard drive, but it is still formatted for the mac. However, iMovie will not recognize the hard drive. It shows the only hard drive available is the computers. How do I get the external hard drive to show up?
In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

I cannot get photos placed in InDesign CS5 to show up only as grayscale/black. When a separation is done, part of the photos show up on both parts of the color separation. I've been hunting for a solution for hours. !
ALSO, on the iPod under Settings>General>iTunes Sync, you may need to back out of the "iTunes Wi-fi Sync," and reopen it to get it to update.

Show balances only at the first row in Discoverer.
I have a discoverer report based on Oracle GL module. I'm reporting the balances @ segment1,2&3 which gives Journal date, Begining balance , Journal amount and Ending balances. I'm able to pull in all the data. But the user wants enters the parameter as From period, To period and the segment1,2&3. Here is the data which is showing in my report currently.

user wants see the beginning balance only @ the first period. He is not interested in showing up at each and every line.
Then ending balance is sum of the begining balance which is at the first line and sum of all the journal amount which should show up at the last line.
I don't know how to show begining only at the first period and ending balance at the last row. Please help!!!

You would have to union a begiining balance entry to the JE detail. Not sure you would need an ending balance record. The beginning balance entry would have the first day of the month as its journal date value as part of the union coding, and journal name NULL. So that hopefully it will sort out as the first entry for the period. Though even that still provides an issue with crossing over multliple periods. You would have to add conditions that say that select the NULL journal name entry only if the journal date = the begin period begin date. Or as part of the union process you could create a new column with a flag for balance (Y for the beginning balance table records and N for the detail JE lines records) and use that new column for editing along with the begin date of the selected date range. Just trying to toss out some ideas here. I myself have never had to do sometihng like this, so I don't have a proven method to accomplish this. But think back to what happens when you join tables with SQL. You are getting a record today with begin balance, je detail line amount, and end balance, because you are joining gl balances to je detail. What you really want, I think is an SQL result that gives you the first result row being the beginning balance of the account of the user selected From Period, and then the following SQL row results are the detail JE rows. That way you only get the beginning balance to print one time, at the beginning, in the SAME column as the je detail amount, and you can then do a sum at the end of the account to sum up the Discoverer report detail rows that would give you an ending balance, again showing just one time for each account in the report. So you have to ask yourself this question - if I was writing this SQL myself (forget about Discoverer for the moment), how would I write it myself, manually, to get the desired result? Once you know how to code it manually, then that should give you a clue on how to set it up in Discovererer. Hope this helps a bit. Another thought - rather than use Discoverer, maybe look at the Oracle Finanacial Statement generator to handle this? Or maybe come up with some kind of materialized view (that might help performance, since GL detail lines table can get pretty darn large)? Keep in mind with a materialized view you get a non-current view of the data, so that won't work if you absolutely need to query over what is currently in the Oracle base tables. But if this is a once a month thing, you could refresh the materialized view after the period is closed and then the users can run the Discoverer report.

Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
