9i RAC configured with HP ServiceGuard

Has anyone out there either successfully or unsuccessfully configured a 2+ node 9i RAC system that runs on a HP-UX box which is set-up with ServiceGuard? I read a few articles about how it works 'in theory' but never actually talked to someone who has really done successfully or tried it and failed.
I'll be grateful to anyone who can share their experiences.

Why do you want to use the HP-serviceguard even when you are using RAC on 10g Rel 2.
Oracle itself provide facility of TAF and now in 10g the concept of Vip.
all this functionality will be available by using TAF.

  • RAC failover with HP-Serviceguard package over listener

We have two nodes (lcsnew1 and lcsnew3) on which RAC is installed. We are using HP-Serviceguard and HP-SGeRAC in the co-existence model, where RAC derives cluster membership information from SG and SGeRAC.
We are using the dedicated server model, where each node has one listener. We have configured HP-SG packages over RAC listener so as to provide failover capability. The HP-SG packages monitor database listener and on node failure or listener failure, the package moves to the other node and attaches itself with the listener running on the adoptive node. So, the basic setup is
    Initially:
    lcsnew1 lcsnew3
    pkg4 pkg5
On listener / node failure at lcsnew1:
    lcsnew1 lcsnew3
    Not Available pkg4, pkg5
On listener / node failure at lcsnew3:
    lcsnew1 lcsnew3
    pkg4, pkg5 Not Available
We want to connect to any of the pkg IP Address, and if it failsover to another node, the connectivity should still be maintained.
I have a small Test programme which uses JDBC connectivity (thin) to connect at pkg4 virtual IP Address. It is able to get a connection and run some queries in a loop on the same connection. Then pkg4 is moved from lcsnew1 to lcsnew3 (at this time the test programme is in sleep mode). On the same old connection, we expect the query to run successfully. But the behaviour we are observing is random. Sometimes, the test programme remains connected to pkg4 IP address even after failover, while sometimes it gives ConnectionError. However, on again connecting to pkg4 IP address (which by now is in adoptive node lcsnew3), it works. So, basically fresh connections always work but the old connections do not failover every time.
I am enclosing all the configuration files for RAC (listener.ora, tnsnames.ora) and package configuration files (config, control). Also, the hosts file is enclosed which gives the details of all names and IP addresses. The test programme is also enclosed.
Pls have a look and suggest what how to move forward.

  • Installation audit vault agent with RAC configuration

    Hi at all,
I have a question about the installation of the agent on the RAC configuration. Where must I install the Audit vault agent, on all RAC nodes or is there a properly configuration?
    Thanks
    Vincenzo

By default when you install the agent on any single node the installation recognizes that it is a cluster and presents you with a list of available nodes from which to select.
With a RAC cluster you have one database and multiple instances. All instances will write to one, and only one AUD$ and FGA_LOG$ table so if you are using database auditing one node will suffice. Which node that is though depends on knowing which node is up at any one time so you could potentially choose a node that is dropped from the cluster or is down for patching and maintenance while the cluster is still running. With respect to REDO collection each node has its own redo thread so you definitely need to be collecting from every node.
Audit Vault has not been out long enough that I can tell you from experience what might be defined as "best practice" and often what we really need to study is "worst practice" to know what not to do. But in the case of RAC my instinct would be to first determine the collection type(s) and then decide. Erring on the side of collecting from all nodes makes a lot of sense.

    Dear Guru's,

    Oracle Version: 11gR2(11.2.0.2)
Note: Am creating nodes in VMware ESXi server.
Just I want to know whether DNS should be configure in any one of those NODES or in separate machine.
    Bala :)

    Hi Bala,
I want to configure my Database with & without DNS. (Will try both installation in different servers)I think, you have already received a link on very good article about Oracle RAC installation without DNS and DHCP (I mean Jeffrey Hunter's article).
There is one more about Oracle RAC installation with DNS and DHCP (http://gjilevski.com/2011/10/05/build-two-node-oracle-rac-11gr2-11-2-0-3-with-gns-dns-dhcp-and-haip/).
And want to know how it forwards the client connection if a node fails.. Can anyone update the URL for this..There are a lot of information about it:

  • Suggestions to add a 10gr2 RAC to a 9iR2 RAC configuration.

    Hello,
I want to add a new 10gR2 instance (with clusterware and ASM) to a working production RAC 92 installation (2 nodes on RedHat 3).
The old RAC is configured with raw devices.
For the ASM we plan to use a new configured LUN.
Can you point me to a document with the required steps?
Obviously we would not want to stop the running instances or to reduce the downtime at a minimum.
    Thanks.
    K

Please be aware that the document posted http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/notes/technote_singh_crs.html
    has some extra steps
Basically you need to stop the gsd from 9i environment before starting the 10g installer. This should detect the existing 9i installation. The installer will use the srvm of 9i and upgrade it to 10g OCR as part of the install. It is to be noted that only the 9i srvm is upgraded to the 10g OCR. The Oracm voting disk will continue to use its voting disk while 10g will use different voting disk.
This way we do not have to add the information again
    Thanks,
    Anil Nair

  • How to disable Oracle RAC configuration.

    Hi,
I have a system running on a RAC configuration (two machines and a shared SAN) I have been looking extensively for any documentation on how to dismantle (safely, i.e. best practise) the rac configuration.
I don't want to loose the database and want to keep one of the instance running and servicing the database, but I want to remove all RAC/Cluster references and remove the other machine.
Is there any note/ documentation anywhere on how to do that so that the database/instance will be running afterwards with no knowledge on having been in a RAC config before or has someone done that ?
    Thor Hjalmar.

Want to know how can I convert a rac database to a non-rac.

  • Step by Step RAC 11GR2 with Grid Infrastructure on Solaris installation

    Y'ello All,
Please I need documentation for RAC 11GR2 with Grid Infrastructure on Solaris installation urgently.
Thany you very much for your support
    BR,

What type of shared storage will you be using?
    Properly configure DNS
    Properly configure /etc/hosts files
    Properly configure SCAN
Properly configure SHARED storage (Preferably ASM - "raw" devices) - make sure you partition the disk devices to "skip" the first 1MB of the device)
BEFORE installation, confirm grid-owner and oracle-rdbms-owner can read AND write to these shared devices from ALL nodes. Permissions must be set to <grid-owner:<grid+oracle shared group> (grid:oinstall where oracle is also in the oinstall group)
Properly configure ssh password-less connections for both GRID-owner AND oracle-rdbms-owner.
    IP addresses required
3 SCAN addresses that point to myhost-scan.mydomain.tld in a round-robin fashion
    PER NODE:
    1 public IP address
    1 virtual IP address
1 interconnect IP address should be iin /etc/hosts ONLY - Non-routable and not reachable via the public interface. DO NOT use CROSSOVER cable.
Interconnect should be on a DEDICATED INTERCONNECT switch.
As for the SHARED storage, the LUNS/Devices can be "carved" out on your SAN by your SAN admin. MAKE SURE that ALL devices in a given diskgroup are EQUAL size. (ie - DATA000=250GB/each, DATA001 500GB/each etc)
The installation guide gives a lot of directions on PRE-REQUISITES. Follow them. And remember, since you are new to this, you may install this several times before you get it the way you need it to be. Even installing MANY RAC clusters on multiple platforms, I still install it 2-3 times. Generally because the SA has forgotten some pre-req step.

can anyone help me to solve this issue

i just opened my ipad, started my apple account/I.D. and realized I put the wrong e mail. I was having trouble correcting my I.D on the Ipad so I went to my laptop and make the proper changes/slash e mail address I wanted for my apple ID. I got back to my ipad and try to download an app I can't because I have to sign in my apple account and I can't because it still has the irrelivant I.D/email address..
So, i did what you said.. went to setting>app store> tapped on my e mail.. it asked me to sign in (with my invalid emails address showing). I signed in with the password I had created. It said "incorrect".. I went to reset password. I reset password, tried to sign in and it says again "unvalid password".. this is getting irritating.  I have been asking and no one knows what to do.

The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

    - configured with 2 (ore even more) user accounts (i.e. me + my kid)
    - and each user account has a different Apple-ID (account) for iTunes purchases & iTunes authorization ?
I woud think that is fine in terms of the underlying license agreement refereing to re-download purchased movies, shows, apps, etc.
However, it seams that there is that miraculous 90 days restriction, which I don't understand, and which allows me only to "authorise" the Computer under one or the other account. The switch is unfortunatelly only possible every 90 days ?!?
    Thanks anybody for help
    Oliver

The 90 day association doesn't stop you authorising an account, it only stops you from using another account for iTunes Match or automatic downloads or redownloading its past purchases : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
There are a few methods listed on this page for how you could do it e.g. multiple user acounts, same iTunes but you having separate playlists, separate iTunes libraries : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

  • Anybody using 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2?

    Hi,
We have poor performance problems with 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2.
It looks like the issue could be because of RAC Ccluster.
Anybody using 11g RAC Database with OIM 9.1.0.2?
If so, What is the JDBC Driver r u using? Also what App Server (Weblogic or OAS etc) ?
    Appreciate your input.
    Regards
    Vijay Chinnasamy

We are using weblogic 10.3. And I am sorry to tell you that we are yet to move to production.
We are planning to have Database in RAC, so i just thought of taking inputs from you.
can you tell me under what operations you face the poor performance issue?
For us the max no. of users in production is around 6k. So I am wondering how this RAC availability will affect the performance.
    Thanks for sharing your inputs.
