A bone to pick with SONY products

First off, I have been looking for a place to voice my opinion, this is the only official SONY place I can find. Being a Sony product buyer I feel the need to ask questions and ponder what Sony does wrong and how they can correct things across the board with many of the principal products on the market such as the Play Station 3, Vaio, and Vita, and the soon to be released S1 and S2 tablets.
I own many Sony products from stereo equipment, the play station, cameras, even had a Vaio at one point. All good products and all decent performance wise. What is getting me upset at this moment is how Sony decides what games are available for specific devices.
Example 1: Sony has many PS3 exclusives that could easily be even better graphically on a PC such as Kill Zone 3. Since they don't even attempt to make PC games, that would help raise the awareness of the Sony Vaio laptop, it makes me wonder why? Can't they release certain titles from the PS3 maybe a year later or more once they are no longer the hot gaming item they once were? I would love to play Kill Zone in glorious graphical detail, I have even read as much from the creators of the game which was created on PC, that the game is leaps and bounds BETTER on a PC.
Example 2: Sony is releasing the VITA hand held gaming device almost at the same time as the S1 and S2 tablets. This is the true area I wish to focus on, product marketing, decisions etc. First off, the excitement of the exclusive titles the VITA will have will certainly make gamers flock to get one, but, the catch is that for a portable device it only has close to 3 hours of battery life? Terrible. So the S1 and S2 tablets are coming out, with the stamp of approval of Play Station games, but so far what I have seen are games from PS1 which is a major leap backwards for gaming from Sony. So the VITA is going to be a marvel of graphical wonder while a device, which in theory should be even more powerful, like the S1 tablet is going to be offering content a decade back in terms of technology?
This part of the equation I can't seem to wrap my head around. What the S1 should have been was a major competitor to the Apple iPad and from what I have read in terms of specs and offerings, it is not much better than a Samsung Galaxy tab. Very disappointed that Sony has put out such an underwhelming product. It is still almost too early to be talking about the S1 and S2 as failures, but in terms of marketing, and telling its customers what it actually is and has available I am very very disappointed. If any company on this planet could have made Apple look bad it was Sony and they failed. The Sony S1 tablet should have been rivaling the graphic power of the VITA, it also should have wireless PS3 controller technology, it should already have exclusive games being offered JUST LIKE THE VITA. Instead we are seeing what looks like a product pushed out the gate too early, with specs that do not beat any other tablet on the market, it is simply... there.
As a result of these examples I have given, I will not be buying any Sony Vaio's and I also will be passing on the S1 and S2 tablets in order to buy an Apple iPad 2. As for the VITA, I will also be passing on it for the short battery life, because long airplane rides are going to burn out battery life quickly on this device. It appears I will stick with my PS3 as it is the best gaming CONSOLE out, but not the best gaming platform, which is still being held by the PC which SONY refuses to improve upon.
The over all direction of SONY seems far too uncoordinated, all over the place, and not stream line. This is one of the things APPLE does so well, they make specific product with top notch quality, and they do it well. Sony is usually late to the game in certain areas of technology, but usually they offer something new and improved upon, so far the latest SONY gadgets seem like they are just good enough for a passing grade, but nothing to really be excited about.

  • How do I contact Sony with new product they might be interested in incorporating into their products

One of our strategic business partners has invented a circuit chip. It will eliminate the standby power consumption in all electronics equipment. Please note - NOT REDUCE standby power,  ELIMINATE standby power. This will work on all electronics that have vampire or standby power. TV, DVR, DVD, microwave ovens, X-box, etc. Also chargers of all kinds for power tools, personal hygiene products, cell phones, etc.
On Jan. 12th of last year, the California Energy Commission passed the first state mandated efficiency standard targeting vampire charging systems. The new standards begin taking effect Feb. 1st, 2013 for chargers with consumer goods, Jan. 1st, 2014 for industrial chargers, and Jan.1st, 2017 for commercial equipment chargers. It sounds like this mandate will be updated to include more products soon.
The U.S. Dept. of Energy is paying very close attention to this and encouraging all other states to do so as well. In addition (because gov’ts across the globe are stretched very thin), there is chatter among several global energy commissions to implement new international standards for all vampire energy consuming goods in the near future.
As of September 1, average electricity consumption of Energy Star qualified products are to drop to 97 kilowatt hours a year from about 138, and by the middle of 2013, they must decrease to 29 kilowatt hours per year.
To combat the problem of phantom load consumption (aka standby power), our clients have invented a unique power circuit which uses zero standby power. They are currently in the initial process of designing the circuit into chip form and for a limited time they are strategically seeking a select handful of companies interested in providing test verification assistance. Currently they are working with eSilicon in Carlsbad, CA to develop the actual chip.
This should be a perfect fit for Sony products but I am not sure who to contact. Any ideas/contact information would be appreciated.

  • Capturing Problem with Sony TRV330

Capturing problem with Sony digital8 trv330.
I recently purchased the above camcorder from eBay for capturing old 8mm/Hi8 tapes for editing purpose. The camcorder set to A/V -> DV OUT connected with Firewire to my Power G4 and the Easy Setup was DV-NTSC. The playback on the capture window looks OK except there were no timecode in the Timecode Duration Field and the Current Timecode Field (both shown 00:00:00:00) during playback but there was timedoce in the camcorder viewfinder. When I click the Capture Now button, the capturing window show up with message “waiting for timecode ….”. I have to click “esc” to stop the capturing operation. I trash the Preferences and Ran the Disk Utility without success. I also tried the Easy Setup with DV-NTSC DV Converter as well as DV-NTSC 32Khz, nothing work.
My set up is: Mac Power G4 version 10.5.5/ F.C.E. 4.0.1/ QT7.5.5/ Startup 160 GB-89 GB available/ Scratch 350GB-277GB available. Folks, I need help. Thanks everybody.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I am trying to digitize my 8mm tapes (via firewire) using final cut express (4.0.1). Using easy setup I use DV-NTSC DV Converter and do capture now. I transfer the entire tape but notice the audio is out of synch with the video. This problem gets worse throughout the transfer process. When I use the esc to complete the transfer I get the error " The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....." So after searching around it is recommended I change the audio sample rate to 32 kHz option. However, when I do this using easy setup and picking DV-NTSC 32kHz I cannot use capture now because I have no timecode and so the window comes up with the message "waiting for timecode". Since there is no timecode this option does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

  • WM Replenishment and 2-step picking with storage units.

    Dear Colleagues,
I am attempting to use SAP standard fixed bin replenishment and implement it as a 2-step picking process. Generally, the process goes as follows:
    - Generate replenishment pick tasks
    - Place the picked products onto storage units in an intermediate storage type
    - Put the products away from storage units into the respective fixed bins
I have setup the necessary parameters to get standard replenishment to work. I can run LP21 and generate all TR's, and subsequently TO's. The product moves from respective reserve bins into the fixed bins based on strategies that I have setup.
The issue i am experiencing is when I try to introduce the intermediate storage type to place the product into, before it goes into the fixed bins. Additionally, the intermediate storage type needs to have SUM enabled, so that the product gets placed onto pallets. This way, the warehouse personnel will be able to track the physical product movements before it is put away.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    HK

    Hi,
I'm not sure your scenario is viable in (standard) SAP.
    As I understand (e.g.):
    - source storage type: productA 10 pc, productB 20 pcs, productC 30 pc
    - intermediate storage type: SU1 (productA 2 pc, productB 17 pcs, productC 10 pc), SU2 (productA 8 pc, productB 3 pcs, productC 20 pc)
    - destination storage type: bin1: productA 2 pc, productB 17 pcs, productC 10 pc, bin2: productA 8 pc, productB 3 pcs, productC 20 pc
Please notice that SAP determines the to be removed quantities (~corresponding to SU1 & SU2 but not as SUs) when you remove the goods from the intermediate storage type ("allocation") and not when you place the goods into it.
Please also notice that automatically you cannot create storage units (palletize) with different products on it (I'm not sure this is requirement in your case or not).
Please check this link where it is explained where to carry out customizing for 2-step picking and how it works:

  • Frustrations I had with Sony

    Hello to all,
the Reason why I'm creating this discussion is trying to explain what Sony is doing wrong from my point of perspective. I know some may disagree but also I know there are a lot of Sony users who may agree with me so please be constructive while replying to me.
I'm a huge and loyal fan of Sony. I can proudly say I have many of the Sony products such as TV, Notebook, PSVita, PS3 and of course a Xperia. After Sony bought Ericsson's share my expaction was huge. But it turned out I should not have expected that much.
First problem to me is: You're creating soooooo much phone model which similiar to themselves and this is so wrong especially in this market. when Peope -including me- hear that Sony was releasing yet another phone model which is named S,P,U.... they don't care anymore. They're just saying "Pfff, not again.." That's because people's expectations were let down in 2011 and 2012 Xperia series when Sony released similar phones by just changing it's name besides it's improved competitors. Even if I don't like Apple and Samsung so much they have perfect marketing strategy. They created a successful serie like iPhone or Galaxy S and they kept evolving that phone without changing it's name. And after that successful serie people started waiting for new continuation on the serie exactly opposite of Sony. After all these You're still using that strategy by releasing new phones which are similar to Xperia Z.
Second main problem to me I think related to first problem you're having difficulties on giving updates to all your phones because there are too much model. I'm using ion right now and my phone is still on 4.0.3 while all other companies updated their phones to at least 4.2. I know releasing update isn't that easy but you caused this by increasing your expense and need for manpower to release an update.
If you create a permanent serie you'll decrease your expenses because you'll not pay for plans and legal requirements for all that unnecessary phone models. You'll release less phone model with more high quality with much more quick update times and more importantly with the cheer of the fans who wants to serie to continue.
Thank you for reading. I hope this discussion can grow with more participant both from fans and developers and can reach to administration level of Sony.

Thank you for the feedback. I will monitor this thread and make sure to pass on the feedback internally.
Also, try to keep the discussion constructive, as AbdülhakimOruç requested. All unsuitable posts will be deleted.

  • Help with Sony Digital Transfer System DLS-M1

I have recently moved into a home that is fully wired throughout with the Sony DLS-M1 system from the early 90s. Unfortunately, all that is connected to it is a tuner radio. The radio can be heard through the entire home which us great, so now I am trying to connect other audio to the system and am having no luck. I have been unable to get anything to play through the system despite having it hooked up to the master receiver. I see in the manual that if you are connecting a non-Sony product without an infrared remote to the receiver that it says it will not work. There has to be a work-around for this, right? I am just looking to connect something like an iPod to the system using a mini-to-RCA connection. It will come out of the local speakers fine, but nowhere else in the house. Please help, I can't find ANYTHING about this system anywhere online!

Sorry, I mean the rest of the legacy system.  It is a few Sony components (tuner and a unit for video/surround), but most importantly the current transfer system connects to terminals all over the house that allow you to use speakers in that particular zone.  They are little white receiver boxes that allow you to select an audio source from the main transfer and play that source on the speakers in that zone.  I am worried that these boxes will not work with anything other than the current master unit, thus losing the current ability to play audio in different zones in the house.  Is that the case or will the rest of the system work with the new master?

  • Using HD 1080i60 shot with sony z1 and 24p shot with canon in a sequence.

is it possible to use two different kind of footage( one is HD 1080i60 shot with sony z1 and the other one is HD 24p shot with canon) in a sequence? if not what should I do?

Yes, it's possible. Make your sequence with the settings of the material you shot more of, and the other one will be rendered to those settings when you bring it in.
For a more consistent look between the two, you may want to look into this:

  • Until Sony repairs my effects unit as promised then reneged on I won't ever buy another sony product

Sony manufactured a guitar effects unit. My studio bought two at NAMM as professional recording engineers. Right out of the gate, they went bad. Sony promised to repair them and they did. The problem was not resolved. The reason is it was defectively designed with a memory battery soldered in instead of with a replaceable battery receptacle. I sent it back AGAIN and they promised to repair it. Well the big Sony mother ship sent it back said sorry out of warranty, unless you PAY the price essentially of a new unit since it was discontinued you are out of luck!! They just sent it back and it never worked. Essentially it was a defective design with Sonys poor attempt to get into commercial recording. It was a good unit when it worked! Until Sony repairs the unit, I will never buy any Sony product again nor have I, nor will anyone in our circle studio etc. nothing no computers nothing nor have we. It's their loss! We have one old computer left that is sony and after that dues we will have purged everything sony. Again their loss because we had an entire office full of song equipment, headsets, computers, recording gear, all purged!! You don't stand by your products, we won't invest in them!

    annoyed2,
Why not send me a private message with your contact information (name, address, phone#) and the system model type and serial number from the bottom (i.e. 7763CTO, L3-A1234)  and also the FRU# on your battery.
I'll look into this and see what can be done.   Sorry to hear that your recent experiences have soured you a bit on ThinkPad.
I hope we can restore your confidence.

  • Why can I not register my Sony product

I have been trying to register my Sony Blu-ray player off and on for over two weeks. I even called Sony customer relations and the person there was unable to get any farther than I was. There are some serious flaws in your website software that you need to address. This impasse does not reflect very well on the Sony product line in general. Please address this issue ASAP. Specific issues:   1. A week ago (with customer relations help): Unable to even access the product registration page   2. Today: Got almost all the way through product registration and some error occurred (not specified by the website) and everything just stopped.   3. Later today: Attempted to register again and start page would not respond to my clicking "Register Product." I hope this helps and I hope you are able to fix this soon. Needless to say it has been rather frustrating.

I had the same experience. I tried to register using three different pcs and three different browsers and nothing worked. The button to finalize the registration process is totally non-functional. When I call the 800 help number all I get is a recording telling me to go to the website which does not work either. My first attempt to register for this discussion failed since SONY would not send me the requisite confirmation e-mail. After many hassles and a demand to use a complicated password and by using my back-up e-mail address I finally got to here. If SONY is such an incompetent company that they make it IMPOSSIBLE to register their products how to they expect to stay in business with such arrogant and irresponsible behavior? I guess they think they are too big to fail and really don't care about what consumers think of them. I will make sure to tell everyone I know to never buy a SONY product. If they can't make customer service functions that work how do they expect consumers to trust that their products work?Every other company in the world has a mail-in registration card option. SONY is being penny-wise and pound foolish as the saying goes.

  • WRT54G and Sony product

The firmware version is 7.0 and it seems to have conflict with sony's products. Everytime I connect a sony product(Laptop and PS3) to the router, the network disconnects(connection between router and modem is broken). This does not happen with my Macbook, Win XP desktop, and O2 smartphone. Why?
Message Edited by KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK on 05-26-2008 05:55 AM

your ps3 should be hardwired. You may have to open ports for the ps3. Make sure upnp is enabled on the router.
On your sony laptop check your firewall settings and make sure upnp is enabled on that as well. You could check your wireless settings on your laptop as well to make sure there are no conflicts.

  • So frustrated with sony!

Its my first time using a sony product, and i didnt to encounter such trouble.
Previously I had posted on the forum that there is no data or network when I went to some places its not the wall paint fault or sth fyi its the phone's problem as i had used samsung and apple but there is no problem, with the connectivity when i was using. I went to sent it for repair on the 3rd of june, 6 days ago!
They gave me a spare phone to use with was basically useless as it does not have the applications that i am using on my current smart phone for work. I would prefer sony to give consummers a smart phone in the replacement phone as we are sending in smartphone to get it repaired and what is the point of loaning outdated phone which cant even download any applications?
I was told they would get back to me and have my phone repaired within 5 days and I already specifiy that i need it for work and these few days working is such a chore. i could only stay updated if i have a laptop.(i dont have other phones, i sold them expecting to rely on the z2 but too bad for me, using only for a week, it became faulty)
The staff even told me if they cant fix it, they would have to change the whole motherboard?!! Hello! Its only 1 week old and u want to change the motherboard, I would expect a 1 for 1 exchange in its place would be better!
Its already the 6th day and i cant believe sony is so irresponsible with their words, even told me i confirm would get it back within 5 days..
and btw sony contact number cant even be called thru, either that or you will be put on hold for a long, long time.
    >=( A Very dissapointed and frustrated consummer.

Update today. Still have not received any updates and so i called myself to check they did not even start to repair my phone yet as they dont have any parts from the supplier. Sooooo frustrated and very angry why no one even inform and if dont have spare parts why even bother to take in the phone to repair?!! wasting everyone time!

  • Is there a way to create videos 'fast' with adobe products?

I am an affiliate marketer. I have produced a video  Inspro Program: personal development planned and achieved - YouTube and I would like to know if there are ways to create videos within maybe 10 minutes with Adobe products. Please suggest a quick method.

Turnaround times ultimately depend on the skill of the person doing the work just as much as the programs' capabilities. And 10 minutes for editing a video? That's just ridiculous. Importing/ exporting footage or tweaking voice-over audio alone could take longer as could replacing/ re-typing text.

How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?
    I have PremierePro-CS5 installed.
This stereo 3D camcorder (Sony HDR-TD10E), output an .MVC (MultiViewCoding) file, coded in H.264 format.
This format is already compatible with Bluray3D stereoscopic format.
    1) But, how to edit the .MVC in Premiere?
    2) What plugin should I use (if exists) for PremiereProCS5?
    3) Cineform Neo3D, can manage the .MVC format? Can convert it to Cineform format file, for import it into Premiere?
    4) What software should I use to convert an .MVC video to an AVCHD H.264 file, and import it into PremierePro CS5 or CS5.5 for editing?

I can just read the english text, or follow the actions of a videotutorial!
Thus my question is the same:
    -What software can do that?
-Sony Vegas 10 do the Bluray3D authoring?
-For MVC editing, should I wait for Adobe CS6? Or is it planned an update for CS5.5?

How do I go about getting the product serial number to register my product as well as install my product.  I bought it with a product box.  On the software disc sleeve, there is a series of numbers pasted at the bottom of the sleeves but this is not valid.  When I tried to type this in for registration, it does register as this numbers also contain letters in it.  Apparently the registration boxes accept numbers only.  What do I do with a useless product for which I have paid good money for it?????

This is the simple solution which was offered to me when I tried to get the serial code on line.
The box and disc sleeve do not contain a series with 24 numbers which I presume is the product code to install.
I tried to redeem the registration code by following what they recommended, but inevitably it gets to the page that showed the registration boxes that need 24 serial numbers and I got stuck again.
This product is so different what my previous experiences of other software products where I just enter the serial number straight from the disc sleeve and then I got registered and go on to use the software.
I is really frustrating, spending the last two hours trying to get my product going....
