A Family Apple ID issue nobody seems to be talking about.

I've read all the threads about multiple Apple ID's and sharing an iTunes account within a family in the new ios5 world with iCloud.  But there's another issue I don't think Apple is considering.
Kids grow up.  And when they do, you want them to pay for their own iTunes, etc!  My younger son still uses my iTunes apple ID, but a couple years ago, my older one made a new one with a new ID as soon as he was able to have his own credit card.  That means he has TWO iTunes ID's, that together, with combined purchases, make up his music library.
Pre-iOS5 it has not been an issue.  His computer is authorized to play songs from both accounts.  But what about when he goes to iOS5 and Lion and iCloud?  He will no longer be able to have his library all together in one place. This means burning thousands of songs, losing the name of the artist/song, in the process, or... I don't know what.
Sooner or later, I want my younger son to have his own credit card and buy HIS own songs/apps.  But the only way his entire library can be together in the cloud is if I keep paying for them on MY account.
Please make a fix for this, Apple. Let us have a family account and associated family member accounts that allow for kids growing up!  Am I missing something?

    I've noticed 3 bugs in iOs 5 that no one seems to be talking about.
    1.  Sometimes the setup personal hotspot toggle in settings will keep thinking even if you don't tap on it.  I believe this contributes to the poor battery life.  I've found the only way to stop this is to reboot with home & power buttons.
    2.   When playing a movie or music the fast forward/search toggle on top is unresponsive.  It takes up to 5 times sometimes for it to pick up that my finger is on it, and by this time it's already skipped around so much that it's pointless.
    3.  This last one is more of an app compatibility issue.  Google's search app times out and is useless now since opening Safari and using the search function in the corner works much faster.
    APPLE PLEASE ADDRESS THESE ISSUES IN THE NEW iOS UPDATE

  • Everyone seems to be talking about the Jelly Bean update, however when I check for an update, it says my phone is up to date.  Why is this?

    It seems like every other RAZR Maxx has an update but mine.  What the heck? lol

    Same with mine - got in May. Says it is Factory Certified - factory tested 
    but never used. Claimed not a full charge yet it was 95% charged...what can
    you  do - other models were lesser in quality and features..interesting
    that you had  option to take update - I did not. My email accounts were not
    receiving. Didn't  try nav doc...Hope this one will be better.

    Hi, thank you for this post.  I hope you might be able to help me too? 
    I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas.  New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
    In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally.  I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
    Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
    Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
    Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
    cloud, contacts, facetime, email -  this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
    Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?
    Appreciate I have asked a lot of questions here but I am looking for any genuine advice out there. Thank you or other potential advisers in advance.

  • TS1702 Not sharing documents with photos in by email e.g. from pages or explain everything.....apple id issue?

    I've got a work ipad.  I have 3 or 4 different email accounts on my ipad.
    I have several documents in pages which email in to work easily.
    If I add any pictures into the document in pages ir refuses point blank to email them in to myself via any email adress on my ipad.  they sit in the outbox.  The documents are def not too large to send as i've checked the mailbox size limits etc.
    Interestingly if I use a colleagues ipad and put my email accounts into their ipad I can share documents from their ipad.  This issue also occured with my old ipad (updated about 8 weeks ago).
    The only common factor linking the 2 ipads and the diff email accounts appears to be apple id which was used to set up both my old and current ipad.
    I have tried a complete restore....no luck
    HELP!
    Driving me demented as I need the function for work.....
    I thought the issue might be email related........but as it works if my email is set up on someone elses ipad it seems not......

    I just spoke with a technician at Apple.  I hsven't been able to verify because the wife has the phone.  but he said all that you need to do is:
    1) Go to Settings --> iTunes Store and login with your Apple ID and pwd
    2) Go to Settings --> iCloud and login with your Apple ID and pwd
    seems that the phone requires you to login to the store first...

  • More Apple Mail Issues

    We have been using Apple Mail at our school for some time with few problems. We use it as the link to an outside POP3 service. Recently, as with so many other users, we have begun to have serious issues with crashing, loss of messages and issues with both sending and receiving at times. A new one has developed now. Disk Warrior was run recently and seemed to have had decent results. Upon closer inspection, it has apparently altered the modification dates of many user files and folders, as well as mail files (all to the same date: April 1, 1976). Now with mail, users are finding the message: 'The message from <[email protected]> concerning "(subject") has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.' The account is already online. I'm not sure if this is a result of the Disk Warrior intervention, or if it is a continuation of Apple Mail issues, or both. Also, users click on one message, and another displays. If you scroll through your messages, continuous crashes occur, and sometimes all messages disappear. Fortunately, with our mail service (Gaggle), we can retrieve messages directly online.
    The issues do not occur in Entourage, and I am testing a couple of other mail applications as well. So it is definitely an Apple Mail problem. I have tried many of the fixes I have seen in other posts, but with no success. Running Disk Utility or Tech Tool has no effect. Our solution for now is to just not use Apple Mail - which our users are use to.
    I will be curious to see what solutions come out. This is a serious issue for many users.

    Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
    Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Seems to be something to do with a new security check they have put in the system that does not work correctly and support is totally incapable of helping me out.
    wth am i gonna do im feed up and on top i have no one to help me been calling itunes for days now im ****** off to the maxxx

    I've been jumping through the hoops with Apple Support on this issue....first time I called they said I should try updating from IOS 4.0 to 4.1....tried that and the issue still persisted...then I called back to update the ticket and get the next steps...they said that the Bank is rejecting the request for verification and that is why it keeps prompting (which doesn't make sense since the confirmation seems to go through successfully). The rep also contacted the iTunes dept and had them run the verify manually and said the bank rejected it. The next hoop they want me to jump through is calling the bank to verify that the account is in good standing and inquire about the rejected requests. I'm fairly certain the bank account is in good standing....will verify of course....but I find it hard to believe that all the people who have posted here, plus countless others that are experiencing the same issue but haven't, are ALL having banking issues in the last 24hrs...I'm more convinced there is a disconnect on the back end between iTunes and Financial institutions...
    I'm not sure I buy in to everything I was told...he also told me he has had several calls on this issue and they were all told to check with their banks. He could not verify that any of his past calls were resolved. Needless to say I'm not 100% believing everything he told me....weak response from Apple support on this issue so far.

  • Vevo Apple tv issue

    Hey I'm having an issue with VEVo on apple TV. When I pause a video or the video ends the screen goes black and the remote stops working. I can open my remote on one of my other iphones or Ipads and it will allow me to pause the video or play it so I can hear sound but no video. when i press menu nothing happens. I have to unplug my Apple TV and plug it back in for it to work again. This only happens with VEVO, I have no other issues with my Apple TV. Also to make things more interesting I can use airplay on my Ipad and send the video to my TV through my Apple TV and it works flawlessly. Id love to get some feed back so I can resolve this problem. as I've ruled out router/Internet connection issues. it seems localized to the VEVO app on the Apple TV.

    It's a problem with the Vevo app. When an Adertisement fails to load up after your video is finished playing, all you get is a black screen, and the original music video reloads itself. The ad is supposed to load in a diffrent higher resolution, so the apple TV goes black expecting to be reset to the Ad's resolution.
    Because the Ads were programmed to not let you exit until they are completed, the menu button effectively becomes useless. The ad is supposed to overright the cached video(which is your music video) and load from the cache, but as it fails to do so, your original music video will instead load again(including the playback controls) without showing the duration in the "timeline" as well as other issues.
    Changing the HDMI options in your TV's Service Menu may bring back the picture and reveal the change of resolution occurred but the proper video(the commercial) failed to load up on the device.
    You can't solve this problem until Vevo decides to update their app to fix it themselves. Perhaps enabling the use of the menu button during commercials.

    As far as the flashing question mark and globe icons are concerned, your computer had lost track of its startup volume and was searching through the possibilities. The globe icon indicates that it is looking for a network to start from and the question mark indicates that it is looking for an OS X volume. To fix this, if you haven't already, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and reselect your internal HD as the startup volume.
    From what you have described, this issue does seem to have corrected itself, and the faster start up is what one would normally expect. I think that you have absolutely no reason to reinstall your system.

  • Apple Store Issues!!! Please help

    Hi Guys,
    I know most people come here when they have issues with one thing or another, and I am seeking your advice. On the 18th of May I picked up a new 2.0Ghz MBP from the Apple Store. That model had a very dark screen and of course the notorious "whine" along with an uneven clamshell so they decided to swap it out and gave me a new one. The new one had a dark region on the screen along with the "whine" so I took it back and told them I am not happy with this one either, they told me it's within spec and if I wanted to get a new one I would have to pay $200 and they would not replace it because all machines that they sell have the whine and I should get a pair of headphones for use in quiet areas if I can't get used to it, but most of their customers have made the adjustment to the whine and i should too, "It's a powerful mahcine, it will make some noise, can't have everything". I was not very happy about that seeying how it was clearly a deffect and not my fault and I was sure as **** not going to buy headphones. I talked to a manager and they gave me a new one withot the fee, an older build Week 16 and they said that if this one is not up to par for me, but it's within spec by them, tough luck I am stuck with it and they made a note saying that I've already gotten too many replacements and this one was not refundable and not exchangable. I was not very happy with that but I agreed hoping that it was going to be better, third time is the charm. I got it home and the machine has a dent where the release button for the LCD latch is, and the screen is once again warped and it "whines" 10X worse then the previous models, and the case is making noise when I rest my palm on it, like something is loose. Now I do not know what to do I don't want to pay 200 for something that is not my fault. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to get my money back or a new machine. They treated me like c r a p and made me feel like they were doing me a favor and the whole time they told me that this is normal for the machines they build and if I am unhappy I need to pay the 200 restoking fee and they will refund the rest, but this is what makes me upset, I keep getting these machines with obvious deffects and somehow it's my fault that they are there and I have to pay for the mistakes of the factory. I've been an Apple user for well over 15 years and I've had lots of machines and I am very very upset that they would treat their customers, the people who go and spend money on a premium product in such a fashion.

    Oh man I definitely know where you're coming from! If I've said it once, I've said it 1,000 times: I HATE the AppleStores and the people that work in them! I believe that the real problem is that the AppleStore *computer techs* are called "Genius"es and that goes straight to their heads!
    So here's what I would do:
    First of all, if the machine is not up to par by your standards (and for over 2 grand, it better be!), most certainly go back and demand an exchange or refund. Remind them that Apple has a "Customer Perception" policy (which a Product Specialist informed me of). The policy apparently states that if the customer perceives any imperfections (such as heat or noise), then the problem exists and must be acknowledged by Apple. If they don't know what you're talking about, tell them that a Product Specialist named Adam informed you of such a policy (that's who told me). Remind them too that there are laws that product you from purchasing a product that is defective and that to you, these computers seem to have some serious flaws.
    But if that doesn't work, and you can be without your machine for a few days, I highly recommend the 800 AppleCare number. The people that work there have been a pleasure to deal with and the turnaround for my machine has always been reasonable (~ 5 days). After calling in and explaining your issues, they will probably transfer you to a Product Specialist who will then arrange for a repair to be setup. Apple pays for shipping, and it's fast shipping too! And most certainly feel free to share your AppleStore experience with these guys; my Product Specialist actually took notes and forwarded my comments to my store's manager, in regards to the tech that was so nasty towards me. And what's even better is that if you have to continue to send your machine back to them for repair, they will send you a replacement machine after the 3rd repair.
    So don't lose hope and certainly don't let anyone tell you that "the machine is within spec" or that you should buy headphones if working in a quiet environment. I would've told him to shove it and left. And most certainly don't settle for paying a restocking fee!! What kind of crap is that?! They want YOU to pay a restocking fee for returning a defective computer?? Gahhhh....
    Yeah, I hate the Apple Stores.

  • ITunes Match 4010 Error - Apple Server Issue?

    I've been using iTunes Match since the day it was available, and have had no issues.  Late last week I started getting the 4010 error some others have been reporting. The library information is gathered and upload to Apple without any apparent issue.  It gets hung up at the point when the iTunes message "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match results..." has been up for about 30 seconds.  After that, the 4010 error appears.
    I've tried all the usual tricks and resets, including signing out, creating a new iTunes library, etc., with no success.  The error appears multiple computers under my account.
    I'm guessing this is an Apple server issue, but I'm not hearing a lot about it, so I'm beginning to wonder if it's happening to a small number of us.  Does anyone know if this is a widespread issue?

    Thanks.  I checked out those discussions before starting this one. Although they might be related, the other threads seem to mostly be about trouble initially setting up the match, trouble with uploading song information, or in one case, apparent duplicate charges from Apple.
    The problem I'm seeing is slightly different in that it happens during a download, when the server is attempting to send the match info back to iTunes.  The suggested fixes didn't work, nor did some others I tried.
    I thought the issue might be fixed with the last iTunes update, but it wasn't.  I had the same issue with 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.  It sounds like there are multiple problems on Apple's side.  It's been a week, but I guess we'll continue to wait and see.
