A few java enhancement suggestions

I have just started using C# a bit after some years of heavy Java use. I am still a Java enthusiast, but a couple of features in C# I am finding very useful.
- "out" and "ref" method parameters. These are so much easier when dealing with multiple results instead of making temp result container classes.
- now that we have auto-boxing in 1.5, make arrays magically implement the List interface. I am finding it tremendously convenient to drop arrays where collections are wanted. Don't know how this interacts with generics/templates though.
Cheers,
Ray Blaak

out and ref parameters are hell. I don't miss it.
People who use it tend to end up with code very
difficult to maintain.With what language did you find out/ref args difficult to maintain?
I have found problems in C++/Delphi/Ada where one could not easily tell by reading source code calls that args were being modified.
However, C#'s simple solution: force the "out" and "ref" keywords in the call as well. Makes things clear.
I find myself getting tired of the tedious of creating little wrapper classes whenever I need to have multiple results.
Certainly if one abuses the feature there are problems, but having just discovered them again after using Java for so long, I am impressed by their usefulness.

  • Some Bugs and Enhancement Suggestions for Offline DB models

    I really like the way that this area of JDeveloper is shaping up, but I have a couple of bugs and few suggestions for enhancements.
    Bugs,
    1) when adding an index to a table, you can't edit the index name. If the generated name is too long, it doesn't allow you to create the index.
    2) When adding columns to an index, there is no LOV of columns so you have to manually type each one. It always defaults to the ?first column of the primary key? which seems odd.
    A few enhancement suggestions:
    1) on tables and columns it would be very helpful to be able to also have a logical name as well as a physical name
    2) if we have a logical name, it would be then very helpful to be able to set the display properties to show the logical vs. physical table and column names
    3) Tablespace objects. I would be okay if they were just the logical object (not necessarily generate DDL to create them). If I could use them as part of the table and index definitions.
    4) Table partitioning.
    5) Packages on a DB Diagram. Just for the documentation purpose of visually displaying all objects in an application.
    6) Ability to create views based on synonyms. Currently, it only allows to pick a table or view.
    Just a few items that I have encountered trying to design a full application in JDeveloper.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Gary,
    thanks. I filed the enhancement request and bug based on your description

  • ITunes Enhancement Suggestion

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to find the best way to submit a enhancement suggestion to Apple regarding the iTunes app and its interaction with my iPod...
    Like many of you I carry my iPod many places and have a variety of music (thus the versatility of this product)...
    However, outside of work I listen to music that might have explicit lyrics... But at work, due to my job its not feasible to have headphones on all the time... So I plug it into my speakers and listen to it quietly...
    What I would like is a way in iTunes to flag a song with explicit lyrics... And then in the iTune change a flag (like the compilations) to either on or off... If I have it to exclude them it would skip them.. but as I leave the building and walk to my car, I could reenable them and thus let them play...
    I mean this sounds worse than it is.. .I might only have a few songs with explicit lyrics... but then again some could be considered inappropriate for the business place... This feature would allow me to ensure that the music playing is appropriate for the setting around others... I could see this beneficial if you had kids in the car... Therefore the explicit lyrics wouldn't be visible and maybe need a code if you wanted to to reactivate it...
    Any other takers on this?
    And does anyone know how I would suggest this to Apple themselves? Or do they montior these newsgroups for ideas like this?
    Please let me know... THanks

    This sorted it for me:
    Backup your iPhone to iCloud (I believe backing up to iTunes will work too). Now go to "Settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase All Content and Settings" to completely restore your iPhone to factory settings. Assuming you've backed up to iCloud, you'll be asked when setting up your iPhone if you want to restore from an iCloud backup. Choose that option and once your iPhone has restored itself from your backup, this annoying problem will finally be gone! (was for me anyway).
    To restore from an iTunes backup, connect your iPhone to your computer, load iTunes. Click the File menu and select Devices > Restore from Back up.

  • XSLT Mapping with Java Enhancement

    Hi All
    I am working on XSLT Mapping with Java Enhancement.
    To do this scenario i have followed the following link.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/55/7ef3003fc411d6b1f700508b5d5211/frameset.htm
    As per the above link I have created Source and Target Data Types , Message Types , Mesage Interfaces, XSLT Mapping (using the transaction XSLT_TOOL) and Interface Mapping part and configred a simple file to file scenario in the ID part.
    Apart from this I have wirte the java code, compile the java code, create the jar file using .java and .class file and after creating the jar file import the .jar file in the imported archive of the IR..
    when I am trying to execute the scenario I am getting the successful message in SXMB_MONI but the target file is having the payload as given below.
    <?xml version ="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <name xmlns:javamap="java:com.company.group.MappingClass"/>
    And as per the XSLT mapping the payload should be as below
    <?xml version ="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <person>
    <name>Rinku Gangwani</name>
    </person>
    I have also followed the following blog link but still i am getting the same issue
    /people/pooja.pandey/blog/2005/06/27/xslt-mapping-with-java-enhancement-for-beginners
    could you please tell me what can be the reason that i am getting the blank targt field values in the payload.
    Thanks
    Rinku Gangwani

    Hi,
      The Transaction code XSLT_TOOL for ABAP xslt mapping.But the Java Enhancement is used for normal xslt mapping which we created using Stylus Studio.You can not access the Java Enhancement in ABAP xslt mapping.
    If you want to use Java Enhancement in xslt mapping then create a xslt mapping using Stylus Studio and save the file as .xsl and zip the .xsl and import to import archive.

  • Java enhancement in XSLT mapping in PI 7.1 and JDK5 XML processing

    Hi,
    I am implementing an XSLT mapping and I need to use java enhancements. I got those working but only if I check "Use SAP XML Toolkit" from Operation Mapping. I would like to use JDK5 XML processing.
    I also got this message to trace:
    Resource not found: META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory
    Thrown:
    com.sap.aii.ib.server.mapping.execution.MappingClassNotFoundException: META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.saxparserfactory
    I tried to use com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl but still couldn't get java enhancement working.
    Is there a way to get JDK5 XML processing working with java enhancements?

    > Is there a way to get JDK5 XML processing working with java enhancements?
    No. Java processing inside XSLT is no standard. So it works only with SAP lib.

  • XSLT Maps with Java enhancements - JCO_SYSTEM_FAILURE

    Hi,
    I have reviewed several postings regarding XSLT Maps with Java enhancements. I followed instructions and build a jar file and the XSLT document. I built one imported archive with the .jar and .xsl. For the class, The path get loaded properly.
    However, I still have a problem when and execute the interface.
    My xslt has the following information
    <xsl:transform version="1.0"

            <test><xsl:value-of select="javamap:getDateValue($inputparam)"/></test>
        </xsl:template>
    </xsl:transform>
    In SXMB_Moni I get the following error...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>

    Find the class and method definition below. The method is static and it returns the string.

  • Lookup in Xi using XSLT with Java enhancement "Error"

    Hi Experts,
    I need your advice urgently.
    I have done message mapping using XSLT mapping with Java enhancement.
    I included the code for SAP DB connection to read from the table.
    I imported both the sapdbc-7_6_00_30_5567 Driver.jar and my custom jar into imported archives.

    Hi,
    Thanks to all who replied.
    I solved the problem.
    I was calling the java method from XSLT without passing any arguement.
    I realised that the java methods called from XSLT should always have input parameter. So i changed the javamethod call from
    public static String getCurrentRecNo() to public static String getCurrentRecNo(Object test)
    and it worked.
    Can anybody explain me why java methods called from XSLT should always have an input arguement.
    Thanks
    Mona

  • Flex Callouts - Usability enhancement suggestions

    Usability enhancement suggestions for flex callouts widget
    FIG demo. (The FIG forum seems to be locked, making it difficult to
    add feedback there.)
    Currently, clicking on callout expands to first level and
    displays expando affordance on right. Suggest that it appear next
    to the airplane (i.e. under the mouse), so the user is encouraged
    to simply click a second time to see the second level expansion,
    rather than scootch over to right every time. "But they don't need
    to do that." Yes, exactly.
    The close action when window is fully expanded can be handled
    by orienting callout with the arrow pointing to upper left, and
    balloon at lower right, so that the same "click in place" trick can
    be employed.
    Click here for example of
    callouts/tooltips appearing to lower right of mouse.
    This would then clearly convey that user can
    click-click-click to cycle through the three states. So it's click
    once to expand to show heading. Expando glyph appears under/near
    mouse position attached to airplane. Click again to have the
    heading expand *downward*, with a close "X" replacing the expando
    glyph. Click again to close/return to initial state.

  • Enhancement Suggestion - Jdeveloper Code Editor

    Hello,
    I would like to make an enhancements suggestion for the JDeveloper code editor. I find the "history" tab of the source editor extremely useful when I'm trying new things and not sure if they would work. This tab helps me revert changes to a last known version. However, I see myself having to identify the previous correct version by date and time, which is kind of dicey. I do see there is also a description column, however, I'm not able to edit the description with a meaningful message that would help identify as last know good version quickly. Hence, my suggestion is that the history tab of the code editor allow the user to add tags / comments against each version for quick identification.
    Hope the Oracle development is listening, and you'll have to excuse me for posting if this forum is the wrong place to make suggestion ( i didn't quite find any feedback feature on the Jdeveloper product page).
    regards,
    Rehan Yusuf

    No problem Timo.
    I don't think it's worth opening an SR for this. It looks like sub-pixel anti-aliasing isn't supported in the JDeveloper Code Editor, which is a shame, because that's the place where it's most needed.
    Michael.

  • Enhancement suggestions

    Just got a new Apple TV. I wondered if I really need it as my TV (Samsung 6 series) already got music streaming and internet capabilities. While I succeeded to a) get music played from Itunes, b) viewing photos and b) watching Youtube videos (a + b with the assistance of EyeConnect) this stand alone solution was brittle and far away from being sofa-compatible. The TV frequently lost the connection or I accidentally hit the wrong key and was back to TV functionality. The usability / ergonomy of Apple TV is superior to all you can do with the current internet capable TVs. Using an iphone as alternate remote control even gives you more comfort; the missing keyboard.
    I have a few suggestions for future enhancements: a) more apps!! (e.g. an internet browser), why not apps from teh appstore just like for ipad or iphone? For watching photos, it would be a nice to have full HD resolution and directly watching iphoto slideshows.
    I can really recommend this device, it has a very reasonable price.

  • Re: mixed up on few java issues

    What is java SDK?
    Also I have installed a few versions of JDK, each time upgrading from older one because I was given older versions when I first started on java.
    Now I have a few version on the computer, how do I find out which version I am using?

    SDK = Software Development Kit
    JDK is the basic Java SDK.
    To find out the version you're using (assuming you've installed JDK correctly) type the following at a command prompt:
    java -version
    Welcome to Java. Read the Java Tutorial on this site. Buy Core Java, Volume 1 - Fundamentals.
    Ask questions when you're really stuck, i.e. you've already tried to find the answer for yourself on the web and by looking in books.

  • Enhancement Suggestion

    As a future enhancement, can you HTML DB Team guys give WS admin the ability to do some WS customization ?
    e.g: Display X number of applications/pages on the main "Applications/Pages" page

    nottoc, consider adding the business value for the feature (e.g. increased developer productivity in a multiple database environment) to your suggestion.  This will help Microsoft prioritize it.

  • HT4592 My Mac OS X 10.5 Snow Leopard is missing Java, any suggestion to restore?

    I am experiencing problem in getting any Java chart on a webpage, which suggested me to download Java Virtual Machine. My understanding is my Mac OS X10.5.8 Snow Leopard should have come bundled with Java. Appreciate any suggestion to rectify this. Thank you very much in advance.

    Make sure to ask for the 10.6.7 version as they sent me 10.6.3 which has no App Store that is needed to install Lion, or Mountain Lion. They said it is in the update but I just updated and still no App Store visible. Argh! You have to get the Snow Leopard Disk via mail but will be able to download Lion and/or Mountain lion directly from the App Store, and why you need to make sure they send the correct version if you do order the SL disk. Just an FYI!:)
