If she is receiving your messages - then you must have somehow setup the iPad to use your iPhone number or your email address on her new iPad. How you did that is beyond me unless you set up her new Mini for her and used your Apple ID on it.
On her iPad got to - Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>uncheck your phone number or email address of that is what is being used for the contact number. -

Hi, there! I'm new to this Apple Discussions page, so greetings to all. So I am thinking of selling my iPod Touch 4th Generation in order to buy the iPod Touch 5th Generation. My iPod has 16 gigabytes; I'm planning on getting the 5th Gen. 16gb as a replacement. Anyway, I have only had this iPod for a year, but I really want the newer device because of the iOS and other new features. It only has scratches on the back and doesn't have any cracks on the screen. How much do you think I should sell it for?
Oh, and if anyone has the iPod 5th Gen. 16gb, do you think it is worth considering selling my 4th Gen. for the newer iDevice?
BTW, I am not planning on selling it back to Apple or Amazon or anything of that sort because I want to sell it at a higher price. I'd sell it to a friend/family member/relative.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:

The ipod is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -

To circumvent an iPod with a forgotten passcode you would need to restore the iPod to factory settings. This will remove the software and data/content from your iPod as well.
To put your iPod/iPhone into recovery mode:
1. Make sure the iPod/iPhone is connected to a computer with iTunes installed on it.
2. Hold down the sleep/wake button(top button) and the home button at the same time until the iPod/iPhone screen goes black then shows the apple logo( usually 10-15 seconds).
3. Once the apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding the home button.
4. The ipod/iphone screen should show an itunes logo and usb cable if you were successful. A dialog box will appear in iTunes that states an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode has been detected if you are successful.
5. Click ok, then click the Restore button
After that you should be up and running in no time!
