A href in JSP

I understand this is incorrect syntax but I am retrieving a path from my database and I want to be able to download from this. I'm new enough to JSP so I am not 100% sure how to go about this.
<a href ="<%= request.getParameter( "path") %> ">Path</a>
So this should appear as
Path
and I can download this then

hiya i got an sql statement that outputs results into an html table on a jsp.
these results come in the form:

so lets say the results are...

Joe Bloggs
CHA CHING
now if someone clicks CHA CHING i want it to know that they have clicked that and send the variables forename=CHA and surname=CHING to ApplicantForm.jsp
...and then the same for any other result selected...
is there any way this can be done?

How to Escape % in the JSP href

I have the floowing string

When the lastName = 'smith%', the % sign causes error for me,
how do I escape that %? Thanks in advance!
P.S. I have tried to change the lastName = 'smith\%' but still
did not work

You could try the hex equivilant which is \u0025.

Java class bean can not access to DB in JSP file

Hi, I wrote a java class bean in order to access to MySql database ,and this bean is used in a JSP file,so that the bean can query from DB and then display the queried information on the JSP file,but it can not work correctly,the following is the source code and error message popup by the system,

Jsp throw numberformatexception.see my code .reply as soon as possible

1. Use code tags, there's button that says 'Code'. Select your text and use that. I'm not going to read your code while it's unformatted like this and especially because you seem to have posted your whole darn project here; and I suspect few others will bother either.
2. Don't paraphrase the exception; post the exact stack trace.
3. There's usually a line number given with the exception; which line does your stack trace point to? Try to figure out what you're doing wrong there.
4. NumberFormatException means that you're trying to parse a string that's not in the correct format. Make sure the data you're getting from the DB is correct.

Post and Get value in jsp page

I have two pages
1. Occasion.jsp
2. Occasionsdetail.jsp
i select values from database in occasion for example

they become links when i click on one of these links it call Occasiondetail form. Where i want to display details of that particular record

Are your records javascript variables? If so, you can use a json formatter to serialize the records to a string and send it from PageA to PageB using mechanism that supports strings (i.e. query parameter, cookie, etc).

Problem with Sessions in JSP

Hi,
I am working on a JSP based website, where I am facing problem with sessions. The user is asked to login by providing her id and password. If found correct, a bean is created and populated with all her details and placed in session scope. I plan to use the information stored in the bean on other related pages until she logs out.

What I presume, when I am clicking on different links, my session changes, and so I am seeing a different jsessionid. And since session is changing, therefore the bean is not available in a different session.
All this works fine with localhost, problem comes into picture, when I upload my pages to the server.
Puzzled, can anyone help, where am I going wrong? Let me add here, I am new to JSP and hence don't have much resources with me.

There are several ways sessions can be exchanged between the browser and the server in a j2ee web application.
1. The default is through cookies. However when the client does not accept cookies, the server appends the session id to the url.
2. Some servers also facilitate session information exchange using session id in the url even if the client does accept cookies. This is usually ahieved through a setting in some server configuration file.
You will have to find out why the server in your application is appending the session id to the url.
Whatever be the case, the server should be able to look up the session from the incoming request (be it from the session id in the url or a session cookie).
When session information is exchanged through the JSESSIONID in the url, you should ensure that each and every url that goes to the server has this input parameter. To do that all links and form post urls in your servlet/jsp should be treated with a call to encodeURL().
For example, in a jsp

Problem with javascript confirm() in a JSP

I'm trying to use a confirm() box in a jsp. I've looked at tons of examples and I still have the same problem. If I just add this to my page the prompt will pop up as expected: (of course it doesn't really do anything.)<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">

You can use Javascript to confirm a delete, and delete an object in the following manner.
//link to delete an object..

Problem in passing data from one .jsp page to another .jsp page

i have a problem here
Actually i have 2 jsp pages. What im trying to do here is actually i want to pass data from the first jsp page to the second for updating
The first jsp page contains data that user wants to update in the form of table.

So this page displays the data that users wants to update plus one image button (edit button). So when user clicks this button, all the data in this page will be brought to the second .jsp page called updatePersonal for updating.
The problem here is that it is not displaying the existing data in the second .jsp page.
The second page basically contains forms

This is a little hard to follow and want to make sure I understand:
You can pass the value from page1 to page2. But when you submit on page2 to another page, the value is null?
My first recommendation is: Pull all HTML code out of scriptlets that is using out.println.
But to answer your question, you don't have the hidden fields in the <FORM> tag. They need to be places in the form tag in order for the form to pass the values when you submit.

Are you talking about server-side java code (servlets/jsp) or client side (applet)? Given we are in the JSP forum I'll assume we're talking server side.
If so, you are making a common but fundamental mistake. JavaScript executes on the client, not on the server. If you want client data on the server it has to get there somehow. The simplest way to do this in JSP land is via HTTP. So... have your JavaScript code call a JSP (or servlet) and pass the value you want as a URL parameter. Of course this will also change the browser location, so if you don't want this to happen use a frame or iframe to capture your HTTP request.
For example:

When I click on this link I get the download dialog box. If I open it I get the following open up in notepad(the files I am trying to give download links are .txt files)
Below is what is displayed in notepad ALL on 1 line:

That is displayed in all of the links that I click on. It is the first few lines of html code for index.jsp.
I know this code is probably not a good way of doing what I need but I got it to work fine until the change.
I am sure there is an easier way to code the download link without resubmitting the page.

Well all was fine with this jsp until I moved it to ApacheJServ. Now the problem has resurfaced(although it is a little different now)
I had moved the following code to the top of my page:

The problem I am having now is that when I click on one of the links and download the file and then open it, I get the contents of the file plus concatenated to the end of it is the first few HTML lines of the actual jsp that I downloaded the file from. Before I was just getting the first few lines of html from the jsp, not the actual contents of the downloaded file.

Html select change to make JSP page forward keeping the exsting field value

Hello, All,
I am trying to make the change of a selection box in HTML form to reload the page and populate the second selection box based on the value in the first selection box. The content of the second selection box is from database....
i used a javascript funtion and called it by the onChange(), the onChange redirect the page to the same page. However all my previous input is lost and the second selection box is not populated based on the first selection box.
The question is how do I keep the current input and reload the page based on the change of a selection box?

Ok two things.
1 - you need to submit the value which was selected.
2 - you need to repopulate the select box with it.

Invoking a JSP from another JSP

I have two JSP and both are calling different servlets. How can I call JSP B from JSP A (perhaps using a button). and how can I pass one field value from JSP B to JSP A when JSP B closes or terminate.

Here is what I'm doing that invokes the second JSP - B

The one problem that I'm facing right now is this:
When I start the app or JSP A (JSP that contains the code above), if the FIRST thing that I do is to click on the button above, the app call the second JSP - B, with no problem. But if start the app and click on something else that goes out to the servlet (of JSP A) and then, click on the button above I get the message: "THe pahe cannot be found" or HTTP 404 - File not found Internet Explorer.
