A plea to RIM

RIM is telling me that my carrier has to release the 4.5 OS update, my carrier tells me they haven't got it yet.
Personally, I don't care who is responsible for it. I have 45 users who are unable to read HTML formatted email and I'm getting tired of it. My users are asking why we didn't go with iPhones instead.  I used to answer "push email, integration with GroupWise", but that is starting to loose vs. unreadable HTML formatted messages.
RIM- Apparently your carriers care more about selling phone upgrades than supporting products they have already sold.  If they aren't going to release one, how about doing it yourself?
We are starting to regret our BlackBerry purchase.

Well, you do have the tools IF you want them. The places hosting some of the beta OSs are not some pirate sites or torrents. Get real. But they are Beta OS applications, for sure. Leaked from carrier personnel.
And RIM won't be providing it to you because again, you are Telus client, and if you have 50 devices and voice/data contracts with them and your sales guy won't give you the time of day--well, you make your choices there.
So going to someone (RIM) with whom you have no relationship or contract is going to get you what you want?
You're just barking up the wrong tree, when you know where the right tree is.
The Beta OS you might get form Telus in six days for six weeks or six months is the EXACT same OS that is out there now. There will be no difference other than the site you download it from, and that Telus doesn't support it for technical service for now.

  • Desperate plea: ipod not recognized by Windows/itunes

    I apologise ...
for being yet another forum user who pops up with a desperate plea.
I am fairly geeky and done everything I can think of.
I have 2 ipods. One is a brand new video ipod, the other a 2nd generation. Both ipods work on one one laptop, my video ipod refuses to work on my Sony Vaio (whereas the 2g ipod is fine)
Specifically: I connect via USB and a "not recognised ... device malfunctioning" error occurs. Using exactly the same USB port, cable and a different (the 2g) iPod it works fine.
I have removed and reinstalled itunes and ipod updater.
I went to the mac store's "genius" bar and the ipod was given the all clear.
So, there's clearly a conflict between my video ipod and my Sony Vaio (running XP: have tried this with and without SP2) My question is what should I try next?
I've done everything I can think of, and as the other ipod works (and this video ipod works with other systems!) I am at a loss at to which variable to try next.
I apologise for bothering you regulars, but rest assured significant googling and more have turned nothing up ...
    I wait in hope!
To make a little clearer as my post was not particularly eloquent: my 2g ipod works fine using the same USB cable and USB port. The 5g is not recognised. I am trying to establish the variable between these so I can fix it. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the speedy response.
I am afraid, no, there are no errors when nothing is plugged in or, indeed, when the 2g iPod is plugged in. I've followed other threads on here and been sure to have usbstor.inf etc all in place.
When I plug in the 5g, windows says a device attached to the system is malfunctioned or unknown. In device manager it says the device is unknown.
The ipodservice is running and all other software and processes are there/have been reinstalled/restarted etc. I've done every I can logically think of!
I am really at a loss as to why my 2g iPod works and my 5g iPod won't. Annoyed as well, obviously, as the Mac store formatted my iPod today during the troubleshooting. Thus this morning I had 25GB of music and no ability to update, now I have 0GB of music and no ability to update (I still have all the music on my laptop, I mean simply I can't get it on to the iPod at the moment)
Can anyone think why one iPod works and one doesn't? Is there anything in the USB 1.1 or 2.0 side of things that could be playing up?
    So grateful for any help!
    Tom

  • Serious fixes needed by RIM for PB/My Review/I'll review your free app

    Hey there guys
So it was just yesterday that I received my dev PlayBook. So far, it's going pretty well. I do like BlackBerry's new platform and it looks like it has some great potential.
Now, I know it's just a new platform, but wow some of these things are already slightly painful. They almost make me want to sell this to go get a Honeycomb tablet! Luckily I will try hold out.
    Bad things:
    - I just received a new update today with Video chat. Already, the update has actually seemed to do good and bad things to the device. Some parts of the device seem more choppy.
    - My browser is just driving me mad. I've done reset after reset and close after close, but pages keep often half-loading, getting stuck 3/4 loading, clicking 'login' on these forums on the device and it stalls on that webpage, and sometimes the app crashes (seems to have only been noticable after the most recent update).
    - Apps: really can't wait for that Android player, there really isn't that much to do on here just yet
    - Feedback button or similar? Unless I've missed it, RIM has released these products to REAL consumers (not just developers like us who generally tend to not worry about bugs as much), and if they release a brand new platform that is bound to have quite a few bugs (and let me tell you, it does), they really should have a feedback or error report button. Especially with this browser thing
    - Those email and calendar apps! I really hope they are coming within the next 60 days It's kind of strange that they managed to add video chat and an official Facebook app before a native email app.
    - File browser: I've got a lot of downloads here that I can't really delete, like PDF's. I don't know whether there's some big button that I'm missing but it's a little annoying Please bring a file manager or something (if it's not developable by developers, haven't looked into that personally)
    - Autocorrect: the keyboard looks and seems quite nice at first. Until you realise it doesn't have an autocorrect like the iPad does. It's fairly hard to be completely accurate on a tablet keyboard in the first place, let alone a 7" one, so please pretty please do away with the red underline and bring in some live-correction-action
    - That power button. I think mine is raised but it's still a pain in the *@&@#(@#*&#$&@.
    Good things:
    - Apart from the Browser being an absolute sh*t and half-loading and quitting on me all the time, it's quite decent. Nice rendering, Flash is brilliant and it's quite a good experience. But I seriously hate it right now because it just doesn't work.
    - Hardware (except for that power button). The specs are brilliant, design is nice, build quality is great, speakers are good, brightness is good, battery life currently seems fairly decent, and it only got good comments when I showed colleagues.
    - The case. Sorry, but this is very cool. Why can't all brands do this? That little sleeve is awesome
    - QNX, apart from some of it's bugs and it's somewhat lonely App World, is working quite nicely. Multitasking is very fluid and it is a size of relief.
    - Size (good and bad). I love the size as I can really take it anywhere, and hopefully use it as a personal calendar/notetaker/slate kind of thing (when CALENDAR functionality comes ), but mind you some things, like the browser experience and keyboard, would be nicer on a bigger screen.
    - Most included apps: the included apps are well done and quite nice. Word to Go would do great with Dropbox integration (please? ) and a file manager would be awesome.
At the moment, there seems to be more negatives about the PB than positives. I couldn't imagine myself buying this until it had matured with stability, apps and Android players etc. But other than that, I like where it's going, just please RIM, change a few things as soon as you can, it's been hard enough avoiding iPad and other tablets since 2010
DEVELOPER PART: Also, if you have a free app and you'd like me to review it or give you some feedback, feel free to let me know and I'll give it a go.
PS: let me know if you experience anything of the same calibre, especially interested in the browser bit. It's the most used app that I use on any device and it's absolutely driving me insane with it's instability on my PlayBook.
PSv2: Apologies for the smilies-overload, lol.

Is there a question in here about Adobe AIR development for the PB? There are other forums that this kind of post is more appropriate. If you have specific issues, please report them to RIM via their issues database so they can be reproduced and resolved. The PB general forum is a good source to look for solutions and provide recommendations.

  • Problems with Media and my Blackberry Bold, is it time for me to give up on RIM this is really annoying

    Hello RIM,
Over the past year since owning a Blackberry, I have had on-going issues with syncing my music between my (2) bolds, so I know this is not specific to the hardware, I have also managed 400 BB's on a BES before so I have a fair idea of how to do things and troubleshoot issues.
    1. My music many times has sounded severely distorted through my car speakers, with lots of bad crackle that hurts my ears
    2. Transferring media between my device and my computer is actually really annoying and now I can't even find my playlists on Windows 7
    3. This should be seemless, it should not be buggy and I can't believe, having done so much support with your hardware and software that this continues to be a real problem for me
I have a playbook, 2 blackberry bolds (I had to buy another 1 because Mobilicity does AWS only and Bell was just plain mean to me so I gave up on them).
I am ready to go on ebay and get rid of this stuff because whilst I mostly use it as a phone (the reason I went with BB), it is important that I am able to do other things with it, without having to go through a dozen articles and issues just to get things to work, these should have been ironed out in the bug reporting process.
So I have reinstalled both Itunes and BB Desktop Manager, both manually and via repair and tried even recopying over my playlists, this doesn't work.
I can't believe the lousy support and buggy software, come on RIM, there is no excuses in this market, PICK UP YOUR GAME and update the BDS or I am done and so will the many other people who won't even take their time to write anything about it on here but vote with their wallet.

Well you know the playbook is actually pretty cool but didn't seem to be ready to go out on time and being a late entrant to the market I would have expected them to showcase the playbook better, especially like how Nintendo gets out there and gets everyone playing with it hands on, there are some things about the Playbook that actually make it unique but it has been poorly marketed.
Unfortunately getting BDS and everything to work properly should not be an issue, I have already spent thousands of dollars on hardware and my phone provider, what am I actually paying for here? So I will spell out some things that make the Blackberry Playbook special and what I would have been pushing had I been in charge of marketing. Firstly I would have had a few different campaigns going, one that targeted business corporate customers, regular business customers and the public that use them as their choice of smartphone and open to potentially buying one.
     1. Flash works really great, come on blackberry, why couldn't you team up with Facebook on this one? Facebook looks better on a Playbook than any other tablet I have seen, in fact the web looks better in general.
    2. Stereo speakers(dual), movies sound great, music sounds great and so do games, in this area, Playbook has the upper hand.
    3. USB & HDMI out - Allows much easier portability of presentations and transferring of files and now I believe there is the Wifi Sync as well.
    4. Blackberry Bridge - You know it's like RIM got backed into a corner on this one, but you know, I think this is the most secure way to operate a tablet, I love how when I turn off bluetooth on my bold, my personal and private information is removed and I can pass it to friends and family without my personal communications being looked into, with the other tablets, it's pretty hard to have different people on them, without probably creating different profiles, with the Playbook, you could share it between a team and it would seamlessly operate between them.
     5. True Multitasking - You know, you can play music, whilst playing a game and you can switch between applications, this funtions pretty awesome. I put on some cool music and loaded up a game on the device and someone whom had an Apple device was sincerely impressed he could listen to music whilst reading or playing games etc. This could also enhance Business Presentations that require audio in the background whilst displaying and going through different information / files or charts.
    6. QNX OS - I mean wow Blackberry, this Operating System is fantastic, I love it, this was an EXCELLENT choice and this I will give you 5 stars on, I can't wait to see what QNX can do on the Blackberry and I would not be surprised if the QNX OS became a major OS against the others, it definitely is polished and apps just install and are ready to go in no time.
RIM has been ahead of the game and because of it's great name with-in business circles they have almost sold themselves and whilst it's nice to see that RIM has sold over 250,000 units with-in the first week this could have been drastically improved by realizing when getting into a NEW market, they need to do the proper marketing and get the devices out there with subject matter experts to educate people whom are checking them out so they can share that information with their friends.
Google paid a very large price with their Nexus One because they where over-confident and thought they would sell based on their name alone, this could have been a learning curve RIM did not have to deal with. There are actually other nice things about the Playbook, the apps that are in their app store are pretty cool and when Android apps are available it will be cooler.
I like the size of the tablet I can comfortably reach accross the screen to hit all the keys on the digital keyboard making it any larger and I couldn't hold it in my hands with the same comfort; copping out to apple fan boys thinking they must have a 10.1" tablet is not necessary, this is the perfect size to sit in your hands, some people think they are small but if they actually watch a movie or play a game on it or look at websites by "Playing with it themselves" they will react differently and actually suggest if your going to do a 10.1" tablet, also keep the smaller sized one as well.
    Suggestions :
    - Working on building in more extensions for gaming such as Unity so that games like battlestar galactica online etc could be played online and directions could be replaced by using the gyroscope.
     - Hire more people if you are having problems meeting deadlines, these companies, including Apple are taking risks to win the market, if your going to take a swing at your competitors, please make it a punch and not a jab, the biggest thing you still have on your side is the market you already had and the market share you have been losing and since we all upgrade our devices so often at this time, come out with something special and we will continue to support you. Okay now that I have that off my chest I feel better. DAMMIT !

I'm going to guess videos buffer for a while also...
Two possibilities, one is you should close apps on the iPad, the other is your internet speed is not able to handle the demands of a high speed device.
To close apps:   Double click home button, swipe up to close the apps.
To solve internet problem, contact your provider.   Basic internet is not enough for video games and movies.   Your router may be old and slow.

  • RIM needs to look at the Playbook registration process and followon support

First, this post is NOT about the pros/cons of the Playbook.
Second, it is NOT about the quality of support I received, which was very good.
It's about the Playbook registration and the need for support during or right after that initial registration, as I experienced yesterday.  It's a it of a story, but necessary to understand what I went through.
I have a PB-32 I setup last December, and did not need help during the registration.  That PB was to goto my wife as I also have an HP Touchpad.  Then the 64gb PB went on sale and it was too good to pass up.  The 64 was going to my wife and I would get the 32 after setup and transfer of her stuff, some of that process is the subject of other posts.
During the IPL of the 64 where it asked for Country, I ran into communications problems and RIM's page would not load.  Others had the same problem, so I believe the site went down for a short while, as it came back an hour later.  When that cleared, it asked for the usual info, specifically my Email address.  So, since I wanted to put her 64 on her account, and later CHANGE the 32's email to mine, I re-registered her as a new account.
Couldn't do it.  Duplicate account exists.  So I called general customer support too find out how to change the email registration for the 32 from the wife's to me, so I could register the 64 to her.  The automated help line wanted the serial # before anything else.  But the s/n on the 64 beside the USB/HDMI ports is unreadable small, and it wasn't up to see it on screen.  So, in desperation, I keyed in the 32 s/n.  That worked.
Now she could help, but not!
News Flash.  YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR INITIAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION. Anytime ever, for any reason.
The only way to re-register the PB is to first do a security wipe and start over.  Yeah, right.  The thing is, the old registration remains in the system, and will not allow you to register another PB as a new registration using the same Email account.
The second dumbest thing I ever heard.  If you sell your PB after a wipe, you will not be able to register a new PB with your same email account.  If you change ISP and get a new email account, you can't change your PB registration to it either.  I ended up registering the 64 to me, and leaving the 32 registered to the wife, not quite right, but acceptable.
IPL of the 64 took over 2 hours!!!!
Next, the 64 kept dropping the WIFI every minute or so for 2 - 3 minutes.  The 32 and Touchpad sitting beside it kept motoring on.  The WIFI signal strength on the 64 was low, about -87 to -93db, the 32 was about 5 to 10db better, so maybe there's a hardware problem.  So I called support again, but this time the 90 day support line.  This time I had the 64's s/n so I entered it in prior to getting a human contact.  First thing asked for.... the serial number.  So why key it in in the first place?  Then my name.  OK, but he could not find my registration info.
Well maybe it takes over an hour for RIM to post the data, but no, the INITIAL REGISTRATION DOES NOT TRANSFER TO THE 90 DAY SUPPORT DATABASE.  Ya gotta register for it separately.  Third dumbest thing.
Sensing a bit of desperation in my voice, he offered to register me over the phone, otherwise I got to do it online.
So we continued... next question "What city do you live in?"  Toronto, Ontario.
"What country is that in?"  Keep in mind RIM is a Canadian company in Kitchener Ontario, about a 2 hour drive from Toronto.  My question to him was "What country are you in?"  The reply.... "Central America."  Yes he had a bit of accent but that's not unusual in this country.  You would think that part of the RIM support staff orientation training would include a bit of Canadian and world geography.
Finally the registration is done, but not quite.  The system will send me a confirmation email, to which I need to respond before we can continue.  Five minutes later, the email is there, and I respond.  First thing the confirmation page asks for.... My email address.  OK back to the support guy.
Can't find my registration.  We waited about 10 minutes and finally, he asked, "what is the problem?"  No, my reg did not come up on his screen.  I explain the dropout problem, but at that time it was up and running.  The fix was to delete all my WIFI profiles (just the 1 here) and reset the PB.  Then connect and save the WIFI profile.  That did seem to help, as the 64 stayed connected for over an hour before it dropped out for a minute.  I'm going to get a new and better WIFI router.  I was on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes this time, of which, only 15 minutes was problem definition and solution.
I'm not going to pontificate what RIM needs to do to, but it needs to do something about a user changing his registration data after the fact and needing only the initial registration data to qualify for the 90 days support.  And it needs to transfer that registration to the support line real fast, as the IPL and immediate setup are potentially the most problematic.
Oh, and make the serial number large enough to be seen by a 67 yo with glasses.
    Done
    jgb

Agree it is a pain in the but I know that you can use the same bbid on 2 playbooks.
Be a Shepard and not an iSheep.

  • How can I change email address RIM sends mail to?

I have two emails, one that's strictly friends and family, and one for everything else. A while back I changed the "everything else" address to gmail. Although I've never submitted my personal address to RIM (other than setting up that email on my phone), they've begun spamming my personal mail with daily "notifications." I don't mind getting the mail, but 1. I don't want it coming to my personal address, and 2. I find it very disturbing that RIM harvested my personal account info to use at their convenience. I see in the emails I receive I can "unsubscribe," although they'll still send me mail they deem important. I don't want that, I want to give them my new everything address, so they'll stay out of my personal acct. I have thoroughly searched their site, but see no way to submit this new address, or to set up my acct preferences for my interaction with RIM. Please tell me how to change my address with RIM, or to at least contact them, not about my phone, but about their service (there doesn't appear to be any such option among the "Contact Us" selections they offer). Thanks very much!

    Notifications of what?
I promise you, from all I've seen, you would have had to check a box in something stating you want to receive updates, etc., from BlackBerry. They certainly haven't "harvested" your email address from simply being loaded to your BlackBerry.
You need to unsuscribe from the current emails you're getting. Even if you don't want to.
You probably downloaded an OS or file update or Desktop Software somewhere that you clicked to agree to receive updates.

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

Is there any of RIM representative here???
I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)
If you wanna make all of your customers run away because your and software have issues, you've made it
This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.
    Solved!

Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.
It seems like the rest of your post was mostly commentary or directed at audiences not in this public user-to-user community, so I'll just leave those alone.

  • Ideas for PlayBook Multitasking for RIM

I was thinking about some of the comments that people have made here and elsewhere about wanting to truly multitask with the PlayBook. That is in how we work, nit just the hardware.
Maybe we can throw some ideas in here and hope that RIM take some of it on board.
    - Allow an app to overlay another, á la picture-in-picture. Great for copying stuff.
    - Portrait mode could split screen two apps. One on top and one below.
    - Web browser could (and should) appear as separate tasks rather than just a single app. Cool if this could be turned on and off.
    - Reorder the running apps in the minimized view to that we can clump them together. Oh, better yet, we could lasso them together so that we are working on task-focused programs together, and a swipe up would show is a screen full of those running programs so we could easily jump between them. I believe that the bottom right corner isn't being used at the moment.
Does anybody have other ideas about how we can really multitask with the PlayBook?

When I try to re-install it...
    Help?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I can't specifically tell what you've tried and not tried, so I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • RIM ripping off everyone outside of US (pretty much)

I am a ridiculously loyal Blackberry user. For a short while (two weeks) I defected to the iPhone, but quickly realized it was mistake and came straight back.
I did buy an iPad when they came out, but I actually prefer my Playbook so the iPad is gathering dust somewhere in the house.
So, it seriously p****s me off that RIM insist on totally ripping me off when it comes to prices in Blackberry App World.
Many of you reading this won't realize that RIM are charging everyone else exactly the same numerical value for apps, but changing the currency symbol.
So, if an app costs $10 the price in the UK will be £10 and in Europe it will be 10 euros.
This is an amazing rip-off. It is like sticking a finger up at all your loyal customers and figuring out we're all thick and will never know what is going on.
Here's the math. If an app is priced at $10 that is £6.33, which is nowhere near £10. Even if you add in VAT at 20%, it still only adds up to £7.59.
This mean RIM are charging UK customer over THIRTY PER CENT more than US users for exactly the same software. Do the publishers get paid a percentage of this rip-off rate. My guess that RIM are paying out a percent of the $10 price and NOT the £10 they are actually charging.
I was in France last week and wasn't surprised that all the prices were exactly the same, but with just a Euro symbol in front.
Is it any surprise that Apple, who lead the way as far as apps are concerned, ARE charging 69p for a $1 app. That is FAIR and is how it should be.
RIM have a lot to learn if they are going to compete in this market place. A good place for them to start would be to stop ripping of their loyal customers.
I could almost understand it if RIM were an American company, as American companies can be a little bit US-centric (understandable I suppose), but for goodness sake, they're a Canadian company and should know better.
As much as I want to love RIM I am finding it harder and harder to do so, when they behave like this.

You think it's just Blackberry that is ripping people off ? Look at car prices, gas prices, appliances, you name it, the list could go on for ever.
It's called market pricing, making the price to what the market will stand.

  • Message to RIM - wish list for next version

    Hi
Just some thoughts based on a couple of days of use of a playbook that my IT folks lent me.
Firstly, hopefully RIM will realize that the only way this will take off is if Enterprise users really buy into it but the device lacks in certain areas if it is to be a WorkBook instead of a PlayBook (which other tablets do a better job at) as follows:
    - no way to adjust font size or zoom in the Messages in the BlackBerry bridge - if the higher ups in corporate can't read their messages, they won't buy.
    - even though typing e-mails show you spelling errors w a red underline - there is no way to correct, while in your BBerry, you can call up spelling correction options.  (The same for the other bridge apps, like memos etc, as well).
    - very difficult to edit messages, the touch screen is not sensitive enough so its difficult to place the cursor to exactly to the point you need it in text you have already typed.  Suggest an optical track ball (similar to the ones in the 9700s) or a stylus be incorporated into the next version.
    - even if you are able to get the cursor to the spot you want it in a draft e-mail/memos you can't highlight to cut or copy text to other parts of the e-mail/memo draft.
    - can't view attachments that are part of the calendar entries - but you can on the BBerry itself.
Think that's it after 2 days of using.  Needless to say, am disappointed as the PlayBook doesn't increase productivity and is lacking in key areas that are part of what makes BBerry a strong product.  I wouldn't buy with my personal funds and think the corporate will not roll out as aggressively as it could the cost/benefit is currently not there.
Let's see what future software/hardware upgrades bring.
    Cheers to all.

Hi 8400Help, I had compiled a list of suggestions in an earlier thread please check it out here: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Future-Things-We-Want-Rim-To-Fix-On-The-P...

  • Future Things We Want Rim To Fix On The Playbook (Organized)

Well I cannot believe I just did this. I just went through the entire thread “Future Things we Want Rim to Fix On The Blackberry Playbook” (Found Here) yes all 16 pages. I made a list of all the features everyone requested in particular the more important ones / commonly requested and organized it in hopes RIM and PB developers and the like will come across this, and be able to quickly sift through what its users want. I will attempt to keep this updated as updates are released to solve these issues. Any suggestions feel free and I will edit the post. Please don’t spam this thread, let’s try to keep this thread organized. Remember this is for FEATURES. APPLICATION requests belong in the application request thread (Found Here).
These are not listed in any sort of importance, it’s just the list I compiled as I was sifting through the forum.
    BlackBerry App World
Sort Applications by New, Popular, Most download, Highest Rated etc.
Sort Downloaded applications by Size, Name, Personal rating etc.
    BlackBerry OS
Cursor, it needs to be a lot simpler to move the cursor to edit a few letters/words currently the steps required are far too cumbersome. Many suggested arrow keys.
            File Manager, pretty straight forward
Auto-correct, word anticipation, auto-capitalize, Spelling-suggestion, add to dictionary (Basically what our             BlackBerry Phone can already do)
             Pictures in Portrait Mode
Wi-Fi Music Sync, similar to current BlackBerry Phones
File Extension Support throughout OS that includes emails (.zip .rar .htm .html .wav) Streaming extensions such as .pls and .mp3 in email attachments
Open Multiple Documents (Doc To Go, ppt to go, spreadsheet to go)
Ability to quickly change font color, size, type, and various formatting of words (Double tap brings up a little window with few simple options)
No backlight/stand-by option when plugged in
Save E-mail to playbook for future edit (This might not be so important once a native client is on the PB)
Support for File Folders within Email (Again, native email client might fix this)
Adobe Acrobat Reader enhancement/bring up to par (PDF Search, Highlighting, bookmarks, click links)
Open PDF in browser or support to auto-open PDF once downloaded (Should be an option to turn on/off)
While viewing a picture/video in Pictures or Video App have the ability to send via email
Ability to create custom folders for applications / home-screen icons
             Better Bluetooth support (headsets, cars)
Recognition of an Email Address or Phone Number or Street Address in an Email/Browser/Application, if BB Phone is bridged then option to place call or launch email or maps should be available
Search Text in Doc to Go (Ctrl + F like feature)
             Wireless Printing
             Ability to delete stock applications
If GPS isn’t working and Phone is bridged it should make use of Phone GPS
More Camera Options (timer, lighting modes, exposure settings etc.)
Advanced Multi-Task options – Have two applications open side by side using gestures
Gesture to put to sleep/unlock (2 Hand finger swipe from top-to-bottom) [I personally don’t mind the power button this is just what people mentioned]
    Keyboard
Smart space bar similar to Blackberry Phones (Eg. Space in URL inputs a ‘.’ Or in an email it inputs the @)
             Hold letter to capitalize
123/sym key locking after use, Most people only use one symbol at a time. Therefore, after clicking that symbol the keyboard should switch back to letters. (This should be an option to turn off/on)
Arrow Key (Mentioned above, not sure how it would work, but if applied correctly it might be better than some form of cursor)
    BlackBerry Browser
Change browser ID for websites that specify Internet Explorer etc.
Organize bookmarks – change order, rename etc.
Search text in browser (Ctrl +F like feature)
             Save passwords in browser
Flash on demand (option to press to play flash)
New Option in settings – Default Links Open in new tab
Ability to have multiple browser running (It is a Multi-Task power horse)
    BlackBerry Bridge
Support photo, audio and videos of files on BB Phones
fb, twitter and other social apps should be able to push notifications into playbook and be viewed there as well.
sms can be viewed and edited just like BBM messages

**bleep** that deletes the purpose of this thread . I was hoping to keep it updated... I hate when forums don't let you edit.
