A solution to the 10810 problem

Some weeks ago I started having problems with my computer: it kept giving me the error message 10810.
After having the computer running for some time (12-24 hours) it refused to start applications and gave the error message -10810. Quitting running applications didn't help. In the end even things like emptying the trash were impossible and just produced errors (like Error type -1). Restarting the computer made the problem go away for some hours, but it always returned.
I tried the solutions presented on this forum (trashing some .plist-files and repairing the disk and permissions), but this had no effect.
Now it seems I have found the culprit for this behaviour: Virex.
I had on older version of Virex (7.5) installed on my Mac, but for some reason it had stopped working and I believe this led to the 10810-problems.
When I installed the evaluation version of Virex 7.7 the problems with error 10810 disapeared immidiately. So it seems Virex 7.5 had done something weird to my system, but installing the newer version overwrote the old program and fixed the bad behaviour.
Hope this helps other people with the same problem.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for your contribution to this ...
Personally I don't use Virex, but ClanXav

  • A Simple Solution to the Slowness Problem

    Here is a simple solution that worked for me and will probably work for a lot of other people too. Hold down the ALT key when you open iPhoto. iPhoto then allows you open a new library or choose from your existing libraries. If you open a new library you can download images from your camera into the new library. Presto! You have a small number of photos to work with and iPhoto chugs merrily along with no slowness whatsoever. You want to go to another library? Simple: close iPhoto, then reopen it while holding down the ALT key again. Choose the library you want. I have hunted high and low for a solution to the slowness problem for months. This is far and away the best one I have found.
    If you have a lot of photos in your existing library, you will need to divide it up into smaller libraries. I suggest making a library for each month of photos. If iPhoto is still slow on a particular library, divide that library into smaller libraries. This is time consuming, but at least you only have to do it once. It is worth it to get iPhoto back.

    AlexCox, can you clarify that once you get the default model out and save it in the temp var, that your ONLY access to the data is then through temp and never through the JList methods?
    Quick question for everyone: Are any of you using JList.setListData to set you initial dataset? I think that is where the bug lies. When I do not use it and start with an empty list, I am able to add to that list, and then remove from that list using the following line:
    ((DefaultListModel)myList.getModel).remove(###);
    And this cast works everytime.
    But when I start that list out with some data such as:
    myList.setListData(myStringArray);
    and then try to execute the above line, boom! I get the ClassCast exception.
    I think setListData creates a whole new model which is an inner class to JList (which seems stupid when DefaultListModel seems made for this).
    Just my thoughts on where the problem lies. I'll add my data directly to the list and see if that works better.

  • Does anybody have a solution for the NAT problem?

    Is somebody's application or Applet able to play any RTP stream behind a NAT Router? Can anybody establish any kind of connection / broadcasting between two subnets? I've got my RTP-Transmitter@public IP (using RTPManager...SendStream.start()), and I try to receive the stream from my local network which is behind a router (DHCP: 192.168....).
    I read forums, newsgroups, looked for any solution for days all over the web but I've found nothing. Zero.
    What's the secret? Any hints?
    Best regards from Munich / Germany,
    r.v.

    Hi
    I have the same problem.
    I have one appletTransmitter that capture video from webcam and transmit it to other client on internet.
    I try to transmit medialocator from appletTransmitter to servlet1 and then save MedialLocator as servlet attribute, then other client can connect to servlet2 that send saved MediaLocator to appletClient.
    APPLETTRANSMITTER:
    URL url=null;
    MediaLocator media=new MediaLocator("vfw://0");
    try{
    url = new URL("http://localhost:8080/servlet1");
    catch(MalformedURLException mue){mue.printStackTrace();}
    URLConnection conn=null;
    try{
    conn = url.openConnection();
    catch(IOException ioe){ioe.printStackTrace();}
    conn.setDoOutput(true);
    OutputStream os=null;
    ObjectOutputStream oos=null;
    InputStream in=null;
    ObjectInputStream iin=null;
    MediaLocator mResp=null;
    String r=null;
    try{
    os=conn.getOutputStream();
    oos=new ObjectOutputStream(os);
    oos.writeObject(media);
    //oos.writeObject("Prova Servlet");
    oos.flush();
    catch(IOException io){io.printStackTrace();}
    catch(ClassNotFoundException cn){cn.printStackTrace();}
    SERVLET1
    ObjectInputStream objin = new ObjectInputStream(request.getInputStream());
    MediaLocator ml =null;
    try{
    ml = (MediaLocator) objin.readObject();
    context.setAttribute("media",ml);
    catch(ClassNotFoundException e)
    {e.printStackTrace()}
    But on servlet1 there is a ClassNotFoundException: MediaLocator
    What do we think about the solution and exception problem?

  • My solution to the connection problem

    First I will tell the solution and then I will state my thoughts about the source of the problem.
    SOLUTION:
    This is not a standard solution but it worked for me: as many, I bought an 60 GB ipod video for xmas and as many I came home to forget about cd's by passing all my music and videos to this little beautifull machine. I started passing my files when suddenly a song didn't make it and since then it would reject any usb connection with my pc.
    I couldn't even get it restored because the computer stopped responding when I conected the ipod. MY SOLUTION WAS TO FIND A FRIEND WITH AN IMAC WITH USB 2.0 PORTS; RESTORE IT FOR MAC AND THEN RESTORE IT IN A WINDOWS BASED PC.
    The results where amazing, the ipod got recognized but the problem persists, when I transfer 2 GB more or less it hungs and the problem reapears.
    THE PROBLEM
    It seems that the problem apears when a sudden disconection leaves the file system of the ipod in a non-integral state.
    In english: when the USB connection fails it damages the ipod hard drive organization.
    So, when windows attemp to recognize the ipod it finds that the ipod has no format and I/O errors occur.
    In a normal scenario, the unformated part (damaged part) of the file system is a folder inside the ipod and it is posible to read the formatted folders, hence, a restore is posible but takes more time to initialize.
    In the worst case scenario, the unformatted (damaged) part of the file system is the section used to initialize the connection to the ipod as an external storage medium, so the ipod stops connecting even in file trnasfer mode.
    I think that the solution works because of the nature of mac os x and the usb device management system.
    So the main problem is the USB connection.
    My theory behind this has to do with failures in the management of the USB 2.0 ports in windows.
    As you may or may not know, it is not a responsability of the hardware vendors of USB connections to supply the apropiate driver for the end user; the USB driver is responsability of microsoft, and for example the USB 2.0 driver is istaled by the service pack 1 or 2.
    I have an assus atv8x, which claims to have 6 USB 2.0 ports, but the instaled drivers in the device manager displays normal USB ports. Up to date I haven't been able to fully install a USB 2.0 driver because windows "thinks" that change the driver isn't a good idea, I should be able to fit in any driver I want since THEY ARE MY PORTS!!!!!
    But the conclussion is that my board is out of the market and support for it is almost gone, I will never have the apropiate driver.
    CONCLUSSION
    So; I think the problem arises when you have USB 2.0 ports phisically but windows doesn't think so and fit USB 1.1 or 1.0 drivers; that makes the connection fail.
    I love my ipod to much, enough to get a mac mini just for the little manzanita.
    CLOSING COMMENTS
    I am positively not sure if the problem is what I'm stating here and this information should not be intended to atack our beloved MS corporation or the elemental rush of manzanita to deliver ipods and not spending enough time to look after this issues.
    I could and certanlly will be wrong but this information may be of use for everyone.

  • CORRECT SOLUTION FOR THE APPSTORE PROBLEM

    CORRECT SOLUTION (by AppleTeam)
    1- Uninstall the old version of itunes you have (or just uninstall iTunes if you are already running 10.4.0.80
    2- Uninstall Quicktime also
    3- Uninstall Apple software update
    4- Uninstall Apple mobile device support
    5- Uninstall Bonjour
    6- Uninstall Apple application support
    (I would shutdown wait 20 seconds then fire up the computer at this point and then come back and install itunes)
    7- Reinstall iTunes 10.4.0.80
    Apple Tech said you HAVE to uninstall in this order. After I did this, the App Store started working correctly.

    I am wonder, the heat problem, is it a APPLE's fault?
    No, as Guitaristguy313 stated, the heat problem exist in most (or all?) Core Duo laptops, whether they are Apple branded or Sony branded or Dell branded. The MacBook is not running warmer than another Core Duo based laptop.
    So it's apparently the normal operating temperature of Core Duo laptops.
    That's not too surprising considering that Intel document its Core Duo to be in normal operating temperature if the cores of the CPU don't run higher than 100°C, and 100°C is a very high temperature.
    Hopefully MacBooks Core Duo's cores generally don't run higher than 85°C, but while within specs according to Intel, it's still very high so it's not surprising that the notebook shell temperature is high also (according to a test on a website, the shell can reach 50°C when the Macbook is used intensively).
    So if you really want to have a culprit for the high temperature of the Macbook (and in fact also other Core Duo notebooks), it would be Intel.

  • Practical solution for the Heat problem?

    Dear fellow Mac users,
    I got my MacBook last friday. Yes, it's very Hot (temperature). I realised that you guys must be facing the same problem. I love this computer. But the heat is too much, i can't put it on my lap to work, when i travel...
    Even typing on the keyboard for a long time in the library, i feel the heat coming out from the keyboard! so fustrating..
    Are they any practical solution on how to reduce the heat? I dont want to dismantle the machine.
    Thank you very much!

  • A possible solution to the MIDI problem with Audition 5.5

    Hi, all.
    In searching for other answers to my Audition 5.5 questions, I've been seeing lots of complaints on these forums about the lack of MIDI compatibility with this version.  If you have an external MIDI sequencer, I offer a solution that you might find useful.
    Go into Audition's Edit > Preferences and change the time display from minutes and seconds to bars and beats
    Specify the time signature to the closest beat value of your song (exampe:  if you're using both 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures, go with 4/4)
    Set the tempo to match your song
    Lay down a full length click track with at least a 4 measure click intro
    Insert the same length click intro into every track (which, when working with previously sequenced tracks, is just a matter starting the machine in sequence-record mode with the metronome on, counting the appriopriate beats and turning it back off just before the song starts)
    Mute all but the track you intend to record
    Record each instrument track to its own file, save and open a multi-track session
    Position the first beat of the click track far enough into the session to preclude needing to trim intros (you can trim the silence out with the click intro after mixdown)
    Zoom in until a single click fits perfectly under the time indicator line
    Drag or snap all the other tracks underneath it so that the first click of each track lines up
    I use lots of instruments with slow attack (such as strings), or tracks where the instrument might only be in a few measures, so the 4+ measures of click intro are particularly useful.
    Pretty low-tech, but quick and painless nonetheless.  It suits my purposes, though I'd love to know if someone has a better method.  Thanks for reading.

    Bob Howes wrote:
    The other problem is that, even among the "music creation" market, there can be big differences in the perceived importance of MIDI.
    I'm not a musician myself but have worked closely with two very different composers.  One of them does practically everything in MIDI (using Sonar) then tends to hand me the files to work with in Audition (after conversion to wave format).  Some tracks are left in the form they came but others are replaced with live "real" instruments.
    The other person is much more traditional.  He plays more instruments than I can count and I help him by recording as he lays down drums, guitars, bass, brass, etc. etc.  He owns a lot of keyboards but, even with these, he sends me line out and uses the actual keyboard sounds rather than laying down MIDI data.
    So, if you asked these two how important it would be to have MIDI functionality, you'd get two very different answers.  From some of the recording forums I frequent, I get the impression that my friends are a microcosm of the whole market .  Some use MIDI a lot while others prefer the feel and sound of recording live instruments.  (And, I'm sure, others inhabit a middle ground.)
    True dat.  Up until about a year or so ago, I didn't use MIDI, and so Audition was for me music production software par excellence.  Then about a year ago, I started getting into MIDI, and now I'm not only using MIDI for creating keyboard-based tracks for overdubs, I'm actually writing songs using MIDI (whereas before songwriting almost always involved a guitar).  MIDI has become huge for me, in other words.  And whether I go to sites like Studio Central and read Tweakhead's guide to homerecording in which he tells people that modern music-making either involves MIDI or is MIDI-based, or whether I read articles in Sound on Sound magazine which constantly reference MIDI in their articles, have regular features about sample librairies that use MIDI, or look at the countless ads touting MIDI keyboards and controllers, it's clear that MIDI is as much a part of modern recording as guitars and mics.  Before, I never used to get what Steve was on about when he'd say that Audition isn't music production software, because I had produced five albums of stuff using either CEP or Audition.  Now, I understand what he means when he says that.  When he says Audition isn't a music production software, he means 'Audition doesn't have MIDI'.  However, the truth of the matter is that Audition is a wonderful music production software if you don't use MIDI, and a partial music production software if you do.   You know, I've tried out other softwares - Reaper, Studio One, FL Studio (ha!) - and none of them come close to Audition for me.  Sure, I can get by using Reaper for MIDI, but knowing how Audition does things, I know that I'd be happier doing it inside Audition.  Hence, the continued lobbying.  I want the best.

  • Is there going to be a Solution for the Capture Problem?

    I've noticed that it is not only me but Final Cut Pro is not capturing video properly, it should not be so hard to capture from my camcorder(PV-DV51), when I hit log and capture the program just quits, after reinstalling, deleting preferences, the Firewire dock is able to see the camera, I can capture with IMovie for crying out loud! so the only question left, is do I have to upgrade Quicktime 7 player to the full version? because I did not find the upgrade in final cut studio package so do I have to purchase separately?
    Thanks for the help

    "The capture problem" is not, AFAIK, striking any number of folks. At least I've not heard of it. If you're running Final Cut Studio 5, there's not a separate serial - it's a gestalt thingie upon install.
    FCP uses QuickTime to do its capturing (iMovie does not). You might try reinstalling QuickTime (don't skip any steps). Go to /Library/Receipts. Trash all QuickTime related .pkg files (Don't worry, you're only deleting receipts so that a full install will take place). Go to http://www.quicktime.com/ and download the latest installer and run it. Reboot.

  • Has anyone found a solution to the login problem with Lion?

    I upgrade my 27" iMac Quad-core last week to Lion and everything was fine. I shutdown after a software upgrade and now I can't log in. Of course, Apple support is closed. I tried a number of the solutions on this site to no avail. Has anyone found a solution? *** has apple done to my system?

    Don't know if my problem is same as yours..after Lion install, frozen cursor in password field when logging in after starting up, beach ball. Couple of trips to Apple store, a number of phone calls to troubleshoot with Applecare. The last fellow who helped me found a workaround, just can't log in. He said engineers have reports of others with this problem so it's not just my machine but fix would probably come in software update. Been dealing with this since first week of Lion download. Hopefully they'll fix it eventually. I can use macbook now, but don't like not being able to have a screen login via password. No plans to ever again download a new op system on a mac...had no trouble installing win7 on older dell from vista.

  • Anyone have a solution for the ubiquitous problem of the printer not recognizing a new HP cartridge?

    I have seen other posts about the HP printers not recognizing that a new HP cartridge has been put in.  At the price of the cartridges, this is a most irritating problem, and apparently a weak spot with the HP printers.  Mine is not heavily used at all and this is the 2nd time it would not recognize.  Thanks.

    Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?  Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

  • What is the best solution to the earphones problem?? (Ipod shuffle 3rd gen)

    Hey guys,
    at the end of the day what is the best solution for that problem with the earphones of the new Ipod shuffle? After do some reading through the forums i came up with a couple of solutions that i could probably choose but i am creating that topic as i would like to hear more about your opinions - suggestions.
    The first one of the solutions i thought is that i should go and buy one of these..
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-tapSTICK-IRMC-Controls-Shuffle/dp/B002CVTU5Q/ref =wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I10ZELYHA99O08&colid=2OIMEI23BWJ9Z
    What do you guys thing about that? Is that one of the effective solutions?
    And the other option that i was considering is to buy one of this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-IRM35-tapLINE-Control-Headphone/dp/B002CVTU56/re f=wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2TP2KR5MGFSTJ&colid=2OIMEI23BWJ9Z
    What do you guys thing about that? Is that one of the effective solutions?
    Well i am looking forward for your replies!!
    Just to let you know i wouldn't consider the glue/tape solution as one of my final choices as in my opinion that is not so good to look at and on the other hand who would like to spend his/hers money to buy something good and then you pour glue on it!! Anyway, to finish, buying a 2nd generation Ipod Shuffle is still one of my solutions to that problem, what do you thing is best for me?
    Regards

    Hey there, first of all let me thank you for your help and advice!!
    furthermore, as i am intending to use my devise in my car as well by using an fm transmitter
    (something like that one: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip-auto-universal-plus)ALWAYS BEARING IN MIND APPLE'S TWO HUGE MISTAKES:
    1)the controls are on the earphones so i would also need to have one of this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-tapSTICK-IRMC-Controls-Shuffle/dp/B002CVTU5Q/ref =wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I10ZELYHA99O08&colid=2OIMEI23BWJ9Z (WHAT A MISTAKE!!)
    AND 2)the purchase of one of these tapSTICKs in addition to a new pair of earphones is needed due to that moisture - sweat problem right?
    So what do you guys suggest to me as the best solution to use my ipod in the gym (with all that moisture and sweat!) as well as using it in the car while having the option to change song?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Has anyone found any solution for the noise problem for an iMac 21.5"?

    I have recently bought a new iMac 21.5" 1TB.  There is constant noise which sounds like it comes from the disk drive.   It is very loud and annoying and you can hear it 10 ft away even.  I took it to the Apple store and of course it is too noisy in the store for them to hear it.  I left it at the store for them to check and you guess it, they did not notice any disk drive problem and return back to me.   I am not an advanced users and I tell you I am not complaining out of the blue and it is not my imagination.  After digging through the community, I seem to find a number of threads indicating that there is noise issue on the iMac.
    Now I am worried that I have returned my iMac.  If this is not a defect, I am thoroughly disappointed in Apple for designing such a crappy product.  How can they let a product like that out?
    Before I give up, does anyone out there have any advice?  Is my only option now return the unit?

    Millions have not had a problem so perhaps yours is due to a bad install. What troubleshooting steps have you done? Restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new are steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.
