A Suggestion to Verizon for better Smartphone cust. service re: updates

With all the angst and concern customers have over software updates (not just a WP7 issue - also Android, MeeGo etc - just not iOS), why not look at a simple and effective way to communicate the status and keep your customers happy.  You don't need to make wild promises, break NDA's or worry about being held to ransom...just deliver some better customer engagement:
All you need to do is put up a SINGLE page for your Smartphone devices (WP7 included) and maintain a quick and easy 1-stop location for all the Software Updates being managed by Verizon.
Example from Aus Carrier:
So create the Update Table....listing Device / OS / Update version no. then...(examples based on WP7)
1. When an update is announced by an OEM or (more likely) Microsoft - please add it straight to the page!
2. Even just showing you are aware of it helps us (eg there are 2 updates post mango min.)
3. Use the version numbers that line up with the MS Update history - eg 7740 or 8107.
4. Then add a status for them, suggestions being:
     - Update XXXX - Not yet received from MS/OEM
     - Update XXXX - Received from MS/OEM - not yet in test.
     - Update XXXX - In Network testing.
     - Update XXXX - Not Approved - awaiting MS/OEM amendment.
     - Update XXXX - Approved, Scheduling Deployment
     - Update XXXX - Deployed (this should be staged over X period to all users, check via Zune PC client).
Bam! There you go - not to hard to manage, and deploy this for heaps of kudos and improved customer satisfaction!
Cheers,
Sheeds.

Some will tell you that Verizon is the worst when it comes to phone updates.  Others will tell you that they are conservative and cautious - and that this is the best policy.
Frequently, Verizon likes to have "OEM" hardware made "not so original".  This was a problem with Motorola in the past and a few other OEM manufacturers sold by Verizon.  Online manufacturer updates would brick a Verizon phone, because there were some minor differences from phone to phone.
I just went through this exercise with Verizon and BlackBerry for several years.  In 4 out of 5 RIM updates - it would take Verizon close to 6 months to release the update that was advertised on the RIM Website 6 months prior.  This led to many visits to the CrackBerry Website where you could either download the update, remove a file, and load it to your phone at any time - regardless of whether it was a Verizon phone, or Sprint, or AT&T.  There were also many times you could pick up a version update prior to even RIM hosting them!  That was until RIM decided to make their tablet and stopped updating their phones!  THAT was a good idea?
One of the things that allowed a BlackBerry User to load these upgrades with confidence was the simple fact that every upgrade - regardless of where you got it from, would call for a backup prior to switching phone versions.  WP7 kinda does this now, but WP7 really needs backup on demand in a big way.
One of the BlackBerry drawbacks was that Verizon Technical Support would not support a phone if the OS version was higher than the one they were offering customers..  I had to call ** on that because any time you called Verizon BlackBerry Support, they would always tell you to reload the original OS anyway when they could not figure out how to fix a problem.  The version you were running at the time really had nothing to do with getting your phone fixed.  I also found that after a few months of use - it was pretty easy to troubleshoot problems.  And for those problems that were unique - you could always hit a BlackBerry forum for advice.
Updates, upgrades, who delivers them, who supports them, etc. is always very sticky.  It's even more sticky with a new OS as everyone wants feature improvements ASAP.  Microsoft typically delivers some pretty clean updates to things like Windows, Office, hardware drivers, etc..  It may be easier to bark at MS about OTA or Website updates - rather than Verizon.  Verizon has always been slow to release updates, regardless of phone and/or OS platform.  I don't see that changing anytime soon and I REALLY don't see them changing their policies for just 1 model or type of phone either.

I'm new at this. Please bear with me. Can I over ride a wi fi location when traveling to use my default Verizon wi fi 3G network that I am paying for each month.
When I stay at the Encore Wynn Resort in Las Vegas there is a charge for daily use of their wi fi service. I'm discourged to pay for the wi fi service twice.

You are not paying Verizon for WiFi. You're paying them for 3G cellular. If you don't want to use WiFi, turn it off (Settings>WiFi>Off) and just use the 3G.

  • 3 Droid Turbos in 4 Days, A true story of potential Verizon Employee Fraud and Insulting Service

If you want to hear a worst case scenario with verizon employees and new hardware defects, here you go. Kudos if you read the whole thing, I don't expect most people to...unless you're one of those people with a faulty battery/camera flash/screen/speaker. Then, enjoy and beware. What follows is a true story. Thursday 10/30/2014 12pm – Purchase Droid Turbo #1
    – Went to Verizon Store and worked with sales associate John to purchase my new droid turbo. I traded in my OG droid razr maxx for $100 rebate, and then John tried to “sell” me a wireless charger for the device by saying he could waive my upgrade fee to apply towards the product. Having already read about the promotion for waived upgrade fees, and knowing it is not only applicable towards products in store (as John was insinuating) I declined, feeling decidedly like John was trying to take advantage of me and the lack of knowledge I may have about current Verizon promotions. Friday 10/31/2014 –Full Day with Droid Turbo #1
Used Turbo Unit 1 for 24 hrs, after charging to full. My battery drained unusually fast, so that I was getting less than 20 hours on the battery. I took screenshots of my battery reports during two full discharges to demonstrate to reps that the battery was in fact underperforming, knowing that evidence would be useful because it is hard to just look at a phone and tell it has a battery issues. Saturday 11/1/2014 – Return Turbo #1 for Turbo #2
11am- Returned to Verizon store. I worked with sales associate “Ross” and brought my concerns to his attention. He also frequently made furtive trips to have whispered discussions with Andre, who I assume is his manager, throughout our conversation about my wanting a replacement unit. They did a “test” on my phone in which they just opened up a call and let it sit for 15 minutes, then said “oh it looks like it drained normally.” As if they know, on a phone that is literally 2 days old. I could tell they were (removed)me, they had no interest in looking at the battery data I had saved on the phone demonstrating the VERY fast discharge, and when I expressed my displeasure, Ross again went and had another whispered conversation with Andre, and he came back and said “we want to help you out….” He proceeded to tell me that they would replace the unit for me. He then went into the back and came out with a box in one hand and another Droid Turbo unit in his other hand—I never saw him take it out of the box. He switched my sim card into the unit he brought from the back, and said I had to keep my current box/etc and did not give me the matching box with the unit. Here is the first time I have a unit that doesn’t match my box/IMEI number information. This is despite me requesting the box to keep the serial numbers consistent. Saturday 11/1/2014 – Later that Day with Turbo #2
When I get Droid Turbo #2 home and start using it that evening in low light conditions, I see that there is a noticeable change in color from the top left to the bottom right of the screen. It was evident in multiple apps, and although subtle, is very apparent when you utilize a graphic designed to test color and brightness consistency on a display. (I used Display Test app, “viewing angle graphic” which demonstrated clearly the screen was not uniform.) I make plans to go in on Sunday and have it exchanged for a unit with consistent color reproduction.
    Sunday 11/2/2014 – 11am. – Returning Turbo #2 for Turbo #3
I return to Verizon for the 3rd time in 4 days. At this point, I am feeling decidedly emotionally raw from my previous experiences in which I felt that employees had ZERO interest in what I had to say or show them. I explain that I’m here to have my device replaced because the screen color is not uniform. They immediately get General manager Steven S. to deal with me, and after taking a cursory glance at my unit underneath glaring overhead can lights at the front desk (where you can hardly see the screen anyways) tells me “He doesn’t see a problem.” I am detecting barely contained hostility at this point—I feel that the employees have labeled me as a “problem” to be dealt with. Another employee, Matthew, hovers nearby the entire time I’m dealing with Steven, making me feel even more ganged up on and adding non-helpful comments from time to time. At this point they have made no effort to get any information from me. I needed to tell them that the flaw is visible in dim light, when the screen brightness is turned down lower, and how you can see it in certain apps, etc, but they took a defensive posture from the beginning as though they had already decided I was wrong. After nearly 90 minutes standing at the counter arguing in front of MANY CUSTOMERS IN THE STORE, that there was a flaw that CAN BE PERCEIVED, I plead for them to just LOOK more closely at what I’m trying to show them. I am at my wit’s end at this point, ready to cancel my contract.  Steven S. finally goes to get a magnifying instrument resembling a jeweler’s loupe, and looks at the test graphic that clearly shows the non-uniform screen through it. HE AGREES THAT HE CAN SEE THAT THERE IS A NON-UNIFORMITY IN THE COLOR REPRODUCTION ON THE SCREEN!!! This is an important point, because later on I am told that “there was no defect found on the units I returned” by Solutions manager Jeff. Steve S. agrees to replace the unit as defective and tells me Matthew will get my replacement. Matthew then goes into the back and does not emerge for nearly ten minutes. Just to get my unit from the shelf? When he comes out of the back, again, he is holding another turbo unit in one hand, and the box it may or may not have come out of in the other. Like Ross did for my last replacement, Matthew swaps my sim card into the other unit, but does not give me the new box despite my asking to exchange, again, to keep serial numbers consistent. At this point they could have given me back the unit I had returned the day before and I would not be any wiser. I’m feeling more and more uncomfortable about the lack of transparency in this process, and the way employees at this store are handling my complaints and concerns in general.  I leave the store, vowing never to return and completely emotionally traumatized and exhausted from the process. When I get home that evening……and start to use my Droid Turbo #3….the flash starts to malfunction. At first it just misses timing on a photo every third or so, making photos oddly red and dark. Then, it’s giving an odd “half flash” instead of a fully bright flash occasionally. Solutions Manager Jeff G, sent me text message following up on my customer experience. I responded:
(Mon, 11:31 AM) “the camera flash has been wonky on two occasions, like it isn’t timed right with the shutter..I’ll wait and see how it works out.” He does not respond. Sunday 11/3 and Monday 11/4 – Turbo #3 Flash Not working at all, periodically. As I’m testing the camera over Sunday night and Monday morning, the flash stops working completely on three different occasions. Even when set to “always on” the flash has just stopped turning on. It gives a weak “half flash” the first time you try after it’s been sitting a while, then just never turns on again. This happens on and off as I test the camera in various lighting situations. Clearly a malfunction, by any definition. Again, I text Solutions manager Jeff G:
(Mon 6:49pm) “Hahah crud. My flash no longer works at all. Apparently it wasn’t going to be ok.”
    Jeff G responds:
(Mon 7:06pm) “At this point, any manufacture defects needs to go through Motorola directly. We have exchanged 2 devices already for this line we will not be able to exchange out a 3rd device for the same model. If you are still unhappy with this device we can exchange it for a different model phone and we will waive the $35 restocking fee, however, if you feel this is just a manufacture defect you can reach out to Motorola at 800.734.5870 or motorola . com So according to the Solutions manager , there is a 3 unit limit per customer on models of the same device, despite experiencing manufacturers defects that employees admitted were in fact manufacturer defects? I respond:
(Mon 7:06pm) “ I didn’t realize there was a limit on manufacturer defects! What would you recommend? Is a non working flash on a phone that has taken less than 50 pictures a manufacturer defect or a feature of the droid turbo? Because I’d love to have your answer on record.” Jeff G responds:
(Mon 7:13pm) “After reviewing the devices exchanged the manufacture defects that were reported are not currently listed as defects by Motorola as a result the devices exchanged were done as a courtesy as a Verizon customer. Future defects should be reported to Motorola. Again if you are unhappy with this phone we are willing to make a final exception to waive the restocking fee to exchange the device for a different model.” So, at this point I am insulted and offended. First of all, the devices I returned were not exchanged as a “courtesy”—I had demonstrated and provided evidence, BEYOND WHAT SHOULD EVER HAVE BEEN NECESSARY OF A CUSTOMER YOU WANT TO BE COURTIOUS TO, that each of the devices I exchanged were not performing as advertised. Secondly, he is flat our refusing to honor Motorola’s manufacturer’s warranty, despite the fact that I have had the unit for less than 24 hours and it is in PRISTINE condition.
Can a Verizon employee (Jeff) arbitrarily and retroactively change the terms of your exchange of a defective device? Verizon is contractually obligated to provide you with a device that functions as described, but instead Jeff is saying “basically, we took care of you because you whined about it hard enough.” This is despite the verbal attestation of multiple employees at the location that the defects were indeed noted at my time of exchange. Tuesdsay, 11/4/2014 – I call Motorola. (Case # XXX-XXXXX) I take Jeff’s advice and call Motorola- I still want a functioning Droid Turbo. Talk to Tech support about flash issue, they agree to send a replacement unit no problem. They ask me for the IMEI number. This is where the problems created by the employees at the Verizon Store Maple Village come to the surface.
I give Motorola my IMEI on the box (XXXXXXXXXXXXX) —but it doesn’t match my device info in their computers. (Remember how they would not give me the matching boxes with my exchanged devices?)
So we investigate further. Motorola tech has me dial a number that gives me Droid Turbo #3’s internal number. (IMEI: XXXXXXXXXXXXX) I get put on hold…and apparently escalated to Tier 2 tech support because the number I gave them isn’t matching the numbers they should have in their system. Fraud alarm bells have gone off, something about what he saw in the info attached to the IMEE# of my device.
Motorola tells me that the Verizon employees have done something wrong, and perhaps even illegal, in processing my exchanges. He says that I need to return to the store and request a replacement unit, with the matching box, serial numbers, parts, etc. This effects my warranty, and apparently could be related to illegal practices behind the scenes at this particular Verizon store? He’s vague about the details, but says they need to escalate it. He gives me a case number and says I’ll be contacted within 48 hours during the investigation. In Summary:
I don’t know what to say at this point. I demand as many replacement Droid Turbo models as is necessary until I receive a unit that functions as designed and advertised, without defect or flaw, and not as a “courtesy as a Verizon customer,” but as a “fulfilment of the contractual obligation Verizon has to its customers.” This does not seem to be an unreasonable request, given that I am paying for a product and service.
Update at time of publishing: My camera flash has not malfunctioned in 24 hrs, I don't know if it was just working out the kinks, was software related, or new battery, who knows. I don't. What I do know is I have 0% expectation that I will get a replacement unit, so I'm probably just dropping the turbo instead of risking having an unwarranty-able device with no Verizon support and a potential faulty flash.

Me? I wouldn't want a device with that many problems and would take the offer to change with a waived restock fee. Who wants to deal with that?
My phone advertises a 17 days standby time but I have never gotten that. When I use it for things like Facebook, texting, call, web browsing or anything else it drains the battery. Happens to all mobile devices.
Was this purchase made at a corporate store? They should have scanned the new ESN onto your account and not just switch the SIM. They would only give you the new box if you had the old box with you.
In either case, if they're still willing to waive the restocking fee, I would switch devices to a different model. It is not up to VZW to make sure that your device is not defective. That is up to the manufacturer of the device.

  • Complaint - trying this as cust service phone line...

I have 3 complaints - none of which I've been able to resolve despite numerous calls to all the various BT call centres:
    1. I've been billed £129.99 for an engineer fee which I never agreed to (which is a breach of contract, illegal etc.).  Joined BT in Nov but broadband and phone didn't work, eventually BT agreed to send an engineer out.  They said this MAY cost £129.99 if the fault is with our house, I said that if the charge is needed - don't do the work and instead cancel my BT contract as I do not want to pay £130 to join BT.  Engineer came out and said fault was not with us but with the BT connection bit, so I said go ahead and do the work.  Broadband and phone totally sorted, but 3 months later - a random charge of £129.9 which I have not agreed to.
    2. So this made me eventually decide to get the compensation for the Nov-Jan period I had a poor service.  But apparently I can only have one weeks compensation as they're only recognising the time from when the engineer was despatched as the time of 'logging the issue'!  Surely if an engineer had to sort out the connection it shows it was never set up properly, but that seems to sensible for Bt cust serv.
    3. The awful, awful cust service experience.  I explained that the 2 points above demonstrate the confused BT response - i.e. if it was an internal fault with my house resulting in a £129 charge, then surely the monthly payments for Nov - Jan should be refunded as the service can't possibly have been working?! But no one can sort this for me.  Cust service = just keep ignoring and 'escalating' to managers who don't call you back.
So if I just stop paying and move to Sky, can I claim breach of contract for this nonsense?

    Hi Dantes and welcome.

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27” display and a 42” LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs or 1 dvi and 1 vga vs 1 dvi and a mini. I don't do a lot of Final Cut Pro, gaming, etc. I am interested in best value for the graphics card.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

  • I would like to suggest a Verizon-specific forum for Mac-users

Verizon is the largest provider of wireless and other related solutions. When I have problems with my Mac or supporting services I am consistently able to find solutions on either the Mac or Verizon forums. However, this takes quite a bit of effort to locate the right answer for my problem. And, this takes a lot of time.
I would like to harness solutions for Mac-users who are Verizon customers all in one place. This could make it easier for Mac-users to get quick answers. This could also be a great referral point for Verizon as it sorts out answers/solutions for Mac users.
Currently, Verizon hears from less than .05% of its customers that there are any issues of compatibility, less access to great services, needs for solutions for Mac. However Mac users represent at least 20% of computer users around the US. On the one hand you can infer that there are issues with less than .05% of the Mac universe or, on the other hand, you can infer that many just don't go to Verizon for the solutions.
I am not sure which is right. I just know that having solutions in one place, my Mac home, would be useful. I hope you will consider the idea.
I do realize no forums are dedicated to any one provider. However, Verizon, again, is the biggest provider. Maybe this is worthy of a forum.

    Hi,
I this case I don't see the need to duplicate services that are independent and already out there
http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all for North America as a whole
This British one has ISP related forums as well as OS specific issue ones
    http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/
If I had Internet Connection problems and my ISP seemed unable to help me then I would look to those.
I am sure there are many that are also Language based all over the world or at least country based where a language is spoken in more than one part of the world.
It is about the level of question involved and some may already get answered in the "Getting On Line" and similar forums already here.

  • Hi I Have A Prepaid SmartPhone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line.

Hi I Have A Prepaid Smart Phone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line. Is There Anyway I Can Use My Excellent Payment History With There Prepaid Department To Switch To A 2-Year Contract And Not Have To Pay The $400 Deposit. And This Is Due To The Fact I Have No Credit History Whatsoever

Since you have no credit history, my guess is you would need at least a year of on time payments, and I'm not sure a pre-paid account would qualify as you can stop at any time.
You didn't specify your age, but getting started int he credit world is not easy - you may try applying for a gas card, or a credit card, and USE them, pay them off each month - and expect to take a year or more to establish a record.

  • I am done with Verizon for their inability to update Android in a timely manner. When my contract is up, after 10 years, I am gone.

    Verizon,
Nobody.. and I mean NOBODY is buying your crap. You don't update to the latest software in a timely manner. The entire planet has the KitKat update for Android and you don't under the guise of better experience. That is crap, everyone else can do it but you, you are inept.
Additionally, you are the most expensive by far and the guise of biggest network. I really don't care about the biggest network, I use a very small percentage of it so this is no excuse.  AND if you are the biggest how come EVERY carrier can beat you on price and get updates out faster?
Your new tiered plans "Family Share" crap.
I do how you still charge me for data, voice, and text.. even though at the end of the day these are all just data packets across your network. I love being charged three times for the same service though.
You want to really be the best, then change your ways.. but I am done waiting around for you.. this contract ends and I am gone.

After 20 yes TWENTY YEARS being with Verizon I to am done with their cell phone business. I have had nothing but problems with my "new" Droid, which I was "steered" to by a tech who told me what I should have not what I chose, my weakness was to still trust the employee had the best interest of their customer at heart. Brewhahaha! Boy what a error that was on MY part. I got a phone that has been defective from the moment I turned it ON.
I first had home service with Verizon for many years...then wifi....then the bundle. Great, all I can say is as this company has grown, they have fallen apart on their customer service and their policies. Their nothing more than yet another CORPORATE mentality company whose bottom line is PROFIT.
My droid arrived, it would not hold a charge...it would not always take a preference I chose...it would change things on preferences on it's own (wondering if my phone is like that car in the movie "CHRISTINE")  and was encouraged to keep using it, I just either didn't understand the "smart phone" ...or my age was allowing them to think I could no longer learn to use anything other than a rotary phone.  One tech actually told me to take the battery out and reset the phone, hmmm...sure right and ruin the phone? RIGHT...who trains these people???
Verizon is no longer any resemblance of the once good company it just to be.
Today my day was horrible. (your just lucky I told blab on about the last three months dealing with them!)
Having just spent the majority of my day being transffered from one department to the next (seems they now have to transfer you if there is something as simple as adding an e mail to the order that was cancelled in error by the way to replace the lousy dysfunctional Droid I got) no one person can do what ever your account needs. Half way through my completely messed up day, I got so tired of this syrupy fake responses telling me to have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of my day..and it was a pleasure to serve me.... after way to many transfers to other departments...they started sounding like they were recorded bots...or flight attendants. I just had to ask them if they served peanuts and cold drinks. HARD LIQUOR?
So now I am waiting for my "reburbished" droid. (again)..checked on why I had not gotten it...it was cancelled flagged by "fraud". WHATTT?  Fourth time I have ordered something and this has happened, and no e mail asking me to contact them. I live in a senior gated community and they are trying to tell me "someone in your gated community attempted to commit fraud" so MY order gets flagged. (half the seniors in this gated community are half dead the others are either in Palm Springs or traveling...and the one who are slightly mobile...might not remember how to even get to the mail room .and back to their house..granted UPS requires I SIGN for the phone...but impossible since they flagged and did not send the phone out. So, here I sit, wondering after three months of dealing with these (not so funny) clowns and gain absolutely NO satisfaction, except to say....adios...when my contract ends.  AT&T hopefully is better, but who knows..this phone situation may be the death of me yet..and in the end VERIZON will not longer have to waste their time or mine transferring me to try to get a 1. working phone  2.  my order actually processed correctly  3. have to re-educate their techs.
I no longer TRUST Verizon, I no longer believe they have the interest of their customers at heart. (what heart?)  and about the only thing I don't understand is they sell me a phone, then a package to buy time...but also $30.00 a month  fee to connect to their lines? Shouldn't that rather come with the package deal??
Signed..done with Verizon squeezing me two ways to Sunday.  I just hope some other company  comes in with a plan to beat the socks off these top providers of cell services in the states...and I'd like to just sit back and watch the huge exodus  of people leaving. The pickens are ripe to do just that.

  • 10yr customer switching to AT&T from Verizon for the Nokia 900 Lumia

So I've been with Verizon for almost 10 years.  That's about $20,000 to $30,000 I've given them.  I know that's nothing to a massive company, but I also know that it's not peanuts either.  I have been very happy with Verizon during those years (though I have gotten sick of every single other company always having nicer, better, cooler phones).  But their service has been good, as well as the customer service.  However, I have gotten to a point where I don't like the android phones at all, and don't really like iphones either.  I've been sitting on an old HTC TP2 and now am out of contract.  I was hoping Verizon would get the 900 Lumia, but it has now been announced as AT&T only.  Why does Verizon always have to be the last company to get any sort of innovative phones?
I am about 90% sure I will be switching to AT&T.  I don't like the way Verizon clings to their droids, how their salespeople only push one or two devices, and I don't like how they handled their iphone introduction (instead of innovating, they just jumped on the bandwagon a few years too late).
I know that the people interested in Windows Phones are a small minority, but if we can get this thing to trend it might get someone's attention.  At worst, make them consider bringing in some new phones.  I don't want the dumbed-down 700 series Nokia phone.
Anyone else considering a switch to AT&T?

    They did it once already.

  • Verizon Cust Service Lied Now I'm Trapped

Need advice but I think I have no other options.
I used to have USB wireless 3G device, was already free of 2 year contract (already had for 3+ years, paying $60 per month plus taxes), and was in Best Buy one day and "conned" into thinking the Jetpack Hotspot was a better deal and better plan, saving me $10 per month.
I purchased a Jetpack from BestBuy on 12/4. On 12/6 I was traveling and tried to use but battery died in the middle of a meeting where I was running presentations over the internet. Clearly reflected poorly on me. Realized the Jetpack was not going to work for me and I should go back to the 3G device I originally had.
I called Verizon customer service on 12/15 to ask what the termination fee would be if I terminated service, because I had signed contract renewal for 2 years with the jetpack, but that it did not work for my situation. The Verizon Customer Service woman told me there was no fee and that actually I had until after the 1st of the year to return the device with no termination fee. I told her I got it at BestBuy and asked if that is where I should take it back and sher confirmed there would be no problem and that she would "make a note on my account."
Did I mention I travel A LOT? That is why I needed a mobile wireless device. I was unable to get back to Best Buy until 12/26, but thought I was still okay to return the device and terminate my plan because I was within the timeframe that Verizon Customer Service told me.  Best Buy called Verizon and basically the customer service person told me they would not allow me to terminate contract without the term fee of $175.
I spent 2 HOURS on the phone with Customer Service. I was "escalated" to Michael in Salt Lake City with Verizon Tech Support Escalation. He provided me 3 completely valueless options:
    1. Stay with the current jetpack for 2 years at $50/month
    2. Buy a 4G USB device for $39 and still be stuck for 2 years at $50/month
    3. Go back to original Pantech Wifi 3G device and original plan of $60/month, with caveat that I still am stuck in new 2 year agreement
    4. Terminate contract for $175.
He told me that I was outside of the 14 day "ho hassle guarantee" - apparently if you are one day out then you get full hassle.
In my opinion, I should not be paying any termination fee becuase I called with in the 14 day period.  Had I been told at that time when I originally called at day 11 that I had only 14 days then I would have gone directly to Best Buy to return it all and cancel (Even if it meant changing my travel plans).  But I was told that I had until the 4th of January, bascially 30 days.
I explained this to Michael in Salt Lake City Verizon "Customer Service" and he was unsympathetic.  He said he would "provide feedback to the original person who told me that incorrect information" but that he could not do anything for me.
He said that he felt it was so important for me to understand the options that he took the time to explain all this to me in the 2 hours we were on the phone - I appreciate that my time is so invaluable and that his time is so valuable that he spent it doing his job and explaining my "options".  He was kind enough to offer that we revert to my original plan of $60 per month with my original 3G device, but I would still be obligated to be under the 2 year extension of contract even though it would be as if I made no change. Oh how wonderful of Verizon to do this for me - trap me in a contract that benefits them for 2 more years of gouging me even though I was already outside my original contractual obligation having been with them 3+ years.
So I ask the forum what you recommend?  I am trapped in a 2 year contract where I have to stay with Verizon for crappy service - I haver never had good customer service with them which is why all my 4 phone lines are with AT&T. I only have Verizon because I am forced with this wifi for traveling.  My one chance to get out is now blown and Verizon will not even work with someone who had an excellent account payment history for 3+ years.
I ran the numbers and here is what it looks like:
Option 1 Stay with current Jetpack for 2 years then dump Verizon forever - $1200 + taxes
Option 2 Buy another 4G USB device for the "special price" of $39 and 2 year jail then dump verizon forever - $1239 + taxes
Option 3 Go back to original Pantech 3G USB device and pay $60 per month still stuck in 2 year extension contract - $1260 + taxes
    Option 4 Terminate for $175
I think in every option since I have been forever poisoned by Verizon Customer Service I will tell everyone I know to terminate service if they can. I already have one friend who is outside contract and has agreed to terminate his service.  I look forward to calling Michael in Salt Lake City Customer Service Escalation to let him know that I have a hand in terminating that friend's service, and will make it my goal to help as many others terminate as well. [Edited to comply with Terms of Service]
Any others with a similar situation where a Verizon Customer Service person lying to you resulted in your having to suffer though fees or an unwanted contract extension?

I would have taken the 4G and the $50 plan offer, for the same data amount as you had with the 3G $60 plan. And yes you would and should have a new 2 yr contract going this route. As for the Jetpack, I have no idea what that even is.
That being said, I would have thought even USB modems and such would have fallen under the holiday return policy.
    Wireless Device/Accessory Return Policy
You may return or exchange wireless devices and accessories purchased from Verizon Wireless within 14 days of purchase. A restocking fee of $35 ($70 for netbooks and tablets) applies to any return or exchange of a wireless device (excluding Hawaii).
This return and exchange policy does not apply to customers who have purchased a Prepaid Plan.
Purchases made between November 15 and December 28, 2011 may be returned or exchanged through January 15, 2012. All other provisions of Verizon Wireless’ Return & Exchange Policy continue to apply, including Restock Fee.

  • I need a clarification : Can I use EJBs instead of helper classes for better performance and less network traffic?

My application was designed based on MVC Architecture. But I made some changes to HMV base on my requirements. Servlet invoke helper classes, helper class uses EJBs to communicate with the database. Jsps also uses EJBs to backtrack the results.
I have two EJBs(Stateless), one Servlet, nearly 70 helperclasses, and nearly 800 jsps. Servlet acts as Controler and all database transactions done through EJBs only. Helper classes are having business logic. Based on the request relevant helper classed is invoked by the Servlet, and all database transactions are done through EJBs. Session scope is 'Page' only.
Now I am planning to use EJBs(for business logic) instead on Helper Classes. But before going to do that I need some clarification regarding Network traffic and for better usage of Container resources.
Please suggest me which method (is Helper classes or Using EJBs) is perferable
    1) to get better performance and.
    2) for less network traffic
    3) for better container resource utilization
I thought if I use EJBs, then the network traffic will increase. Because every time it make a remote call to EJBs.
    Please give detailed explanation.
    thank you,
    sudheer

<i>Please suggest me which method (is Helper classes or Using EJBs) is perferable :
    1) to get better performance</i>
EJB's have quite a lot of overhead associated with them to support transactions and remoteability. A non-EJB helper class will almost always outperform an EJB. Often considerably. If you plan on making your 70 helper classes EJB's you should expect to see a dramatic decrease in maximum throughput.
    <i>2) for less network traffic</i>
There should be no difference. Both architectures will probably make the exact same JDBC calls from the RDBMS's perspective. And since the EJB's and JSP's are co-located there won't be any other additional overhead there either. (You are co-locating your JSP's and EJB's, aren't you?)
<i>3) for better container resource utilization</i>
Again, the EJB version will consume a lot more container resources.

  • Is verizon really better than AT&T?

I've seen so many ads tha say verizon is better and more reliable than AT&T. Is this really true? I've compared coverage maps, and they looks almost the same, except for LTE coverage, but as far as 3G goes, they look about the same. What makes verizon so much better?

How does JD Powers rate customer satisfaction (not coverage)? I can't imagine it being very high for Verizon.
hard to believe after reading the forums, but Verizon consistently is ranked highest in customer satisfaction of the big 4  US cellular companies.  But do remember, what you see in the forum is only a small sampling of the worst problems that happen and represent a fraction of 1% of customers.   Therefore it is not a scientific sample to judge the whole.

  • Request recommendations for a smartphone that has easy synchronisation with outlook - contacts, calender & notes.

Im in the market for a new phone since my HTC Touch HD is rather an ancient 6+years old. My main goal in a smartphone is being able to integrate with my microsoft outlook info - calender and notes inparticular. However frankly in reading reviews &
researching current smart phones, I get the impression I am not going improve my current experience on a 6 year old phone by upgrading! Im not convinced that its really going to be an upgrade afterall!!
I don't want to have all my info going via a cloud either. For this reason I thought a windows phone would be preferable.
Is there a smartphone system where I can synchronise with microsoft outlook (including notes) locally? (ie:not having to be online with my info going via a third party platform in the cloud?
How can something that works so well on a 2008 phone be so difficult to find in 2014?
What current models of phones (even from the last 1-2 years- I can buy second hand if needed) do you recommend?

First let you know that we are the technical support and not the mobile sellers, the following suggestion is only for your reference:)
"I don't want to have all my info going via a cloud either. For this reason I thought a windows phone would be preferable. "
    - That's a good choice, but to be honest, the mail system for all of smartphone system, including WindowsPhone, Android, iOS, is similar in Consumer level. For user, we just purchase the good performance (depend on hardware) and pretty look device.
"Is there a smartphone system where I can synchronise with microsoft outlook (including notes) locally?"
It depends on your current using email account type and the protocal that mobile app supports. As far as I know, all smartphone system only supports ActiveSync and notes aren't supported by ActiveSync so far. Message, Calendar, Contacts and task is ok.
"How can something that works so well on a 2008 phone be so difficult to find in 2014?"
Simple word is faster and more function.
"What current models of phones (even from the last 1-2 years- I can buy second hand if needed) do you recommend?"
For this quesion, you can focus on the official website like Windows mobile, iPhone, etc... here I would prefer to Nokia Lumia series

burner not working, 8.98 GB free, can this 2003/2004 imac model be cleaned for better use or will I continue to have problems?  Do I need to just buy a new one?  I remember with a PC being able to defrag.

You could buy an external dvd/cd drive.
    Suggest other world computing.
You need to delete some files.  Many posters to these forums state that you need much more free space: 5 gig to 10 gig or 10 percent of you hd size.

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.
Go after large files that you have created & know what they are.  Do not delete small files that are in a folder you do not know what the folder is for. Anything that is less than a megabyte is a small file these days.

  • For better speed, will a MacPro 2.8 ghz or airbook flash drive and 1.8 ghz?

For better speed, will a MacPro 2.8 ghz or airbook flash drive and 1.8 ghz?

It's going to depend on what you are doing with the machine.  If what you are doing is processor intensive, then higher clock speed would give more speed.  Assuming though, that the higher speed processor machine is going to have a spindle drive, then if the issue is one that is drive dependent (and a lot of things are), then the MBA will generally be faster.
If you have a machine you are replacing, I'd suggest looking at whether the applications you are now using tend to absorb lots of processor time (are you hitting 100% CPU usage regularly) or spend most of the time excercising your hard drive (drive activity is constant).  If the former, the Pro is likely the better option, while if the latter the MBA would likely do better.
Of course, if price is no object just get a Pro level machine with an SSD...
