A3 scanner not scanning A3!

Hi there,
We've bought this new all-in-one printer/scanner etc and it seems to be copying ok but I'm trying to get it to scan an A3 document and everything it is telling me in the User Guide is not what is showing on my machine.
After I have selected Document Type on the printer screen it is not then going on to allow me to select Paper Size it is going straight to the button to start the scan.  Has it been installed wrong or is it faulty?  I haven't tried to copy an A3 document yet but if I go to Copy these buttons do come up on the screen.
Am I doing it all wrong or what?
Thanks.  M4KCS

Hello ,
Thank you for contacting the forum
Please try the following steps, with KEY focus on step 1.
To scan an original from the printer control panel
Use the following instructions to scan a large document.
1. Touch Scan, and then select the Memory Device.
2. Touch Document Type to choose the type of document you want to save. Make
changes to scan options, if needed.
3. Touch Paper Size and select either A3 or Ledger (11X17 in.) to choose the size of
the original document
4. Touch Settings to rename the scan file name OR change the output quality.
5. Touch Start Scan to load the animation that shows how to place the A3/11x17 original
on the scan glass.
Load the original according to the animation, and then select Scan.
6. When prompted, select Continue.
7. Turn the paper around according to the animation, and then select Scan. The printer
joins the two copies into one document.

  • HP deskjet 3055A e-All-in-One printer/scanner Not scanning

Hello I have the all in one as listed.  It has worked for ages absolutely fine and the printer both wireless and network still works.  The scanner however does not the fact have done a Scan doctor on it.  Stops at Twain Scan problem.  Despite all the icons having been there from the past the message I get is "The HP Deskjet 305A J611 was not found". Tearing my hair out as uninstalled, loaded up drivers etc and still doesn't work.  Interestingly this only happened after I renewed my Norton susbscription and windows office also had issues.  Norton was uninstalled by their team and Windows office continued to malfunction regardless. This was sorted out by the Microsoft team successfully and Office and Norton are working fine again.  It seems too much of a coincidence but am guessing Twain is being blocked somehow by Norton.....Unfortunately am not much good at technology so any help appreciated

    Hi Russkiijim
I understand you are unable to scan. The Print and Scan Doctor shows a Twain error. Twain is the interface standard for Windows and Macintosh that allows imaging hardware devices (such as scanners and digital cameras) to communicate with image processing software.
Lets turn off all start up programs to make sure there isn't something blocking it. Click on start, in search box type in run, enter, then type in msconfig, click ok.
    Click the Services tab.
Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Click Disable All, and then click OK.
Then click on the start up tab at the top.
    Click on disable all.
    Reboot the computer.
    Turn off any antivirus software.
    Try scanning again.
Then go back into msconfig and enable the All Microsoft Services and enable all on the start up tab. Turn the Antivirus software back on again.
I would recommend to run Microsoft Fix It Tool to see if that will fix the twain error if the msconfig didn't work.
You will probably need to uninstall and install the printer again.
Let me know if that helps.

    Hi hhj121970,
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community,  as the HP Scanjet Pro 1000 Mobile scanner is a commercial model.

  • HP Scanner not scanning with MAC OS X 10.9.4

I cannot scan from my HP Photosmart All In One Scanner, Product #CN731A to my MAC OS X 10.9.4. I also use Safari. Please advise!
    Thank you

I just learned how to do this with my HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One from watching a video on the HP website.  I used Image Capture.
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
In the Applications folder or from the Dock, click Image Capture .
Select your printer from the list. If your printer connects to a network, select it from the Shared list. The details of the scan display.
Click Show Details to view scan settings and options.
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .

  • PIXMA MG5620 Scanner Not Scanning

Everytime I try to scan the screen on my all in one PIXMA MG5620 Printer says the following: "Set the PC to start scanning".
    - I have installed the Canon IJ Scan Utility2
    - I have Bonjour/printer network sharing enabled on my Macbook
    - Everything works except for Scanning via the printer buttons and via the Canon printing software.
I have downloaded the app, and that lets me scan remotely. However, it is more practical to have scanning capabilities on my computer rather than on my cellphone. I have tried everything and I am at a loss here. So if anyone could help me out that would be grealty appreciated.
    Thank you

Are you trying to scan by wireless or with USB cable? I find scan functions on my MG 5350 will only work if the cable is connected. Don't ask me why ... ask Canon.
It's a nuisance, but a minor one since my machine is next to the printer. If I were in another room when I wanted to scan it might be more annoying; but if I want to scan something I need to be next to the printer anyway, so it's not too much of a hardship.
However, at times the wireless function will work, while at others it won't. This is the really frustrating part, and even more so when you start wireless, and then after 2 or 3 scans it suddenly decides it's not doing any more.
Come on, Canon, sort your machinery and soft/firmware out.

  • Scanner not scanning properly

I have just scanned a drawing, the image comes out with pink and green lines running down the paper. Please has anyone any ideas I only just bought this machine

Hi , I see that you are having issues when printing a scanned image, it is coming out with pink and green lines. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue. I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation. Try these steps in this document, for aligning and cleaning the printer, manually cleaning the cartridges, to see if it will resolve the issue. Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP ENVY 4500 and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540 e-All-in-One Printer Series. What were the results of the Print Quality Diagnostic Report? Was the scanned image alright, it was just the printed image that had the pink and green lines, correct? Are you using Genuine HP Cartridges?
What are the ink levels? If you need further assistance, just let me know. Have a great day!

  • Bar code not scanned by scanner machine.

    Hello!
Problem is there after print the report, bar code is not scanned by  scanner.
    Thank You.

    Hi,
Do you use crystal report or standard Print Layout?
if you use Crystal Report, Normally we use font "Code39"
    Try this:
Add  asterick ( * ) between the text you want to scan.
    e.g.
    asterickDOCNO123456asterick
asterick is the symbol with no space in between.
and change the whole string font to Code39

  • Scanner not available, OR scan will not save to file

Hello,  HP M1212nf, using HP Director/HP Scan 1.1, on an iMac running OS 10.6.8.
On the control panel, the Ready light is on, the Attention light is off, and the  Toner light is blinking.
I try to scan a document, but get "the scanner is not available" message. USB connections are good...
Occasionally, it does scan successfully. But then when I try to save it as a file, all steps work beautifully -- PDF/JPEG/etc, name file, choose destination -- but the supposedly saved file is nowhere to be found. (Spotlight doesn't see it, and it's certainly not in the destination I chose.)
What's going on, and how do I fix it?!
    Thanks in advance for help!
    Ch.S.

     > Maybe if you go for another walk to the mall and pick up another sack of potatoes, the printer will start working

I have enough potatoes and carrots, thanks...   ;-)
Thanks ever so much for your perseverance in helping me with this!!!
    > Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
    > Printing Information Pages.
The config pages print beautifully, although the toner light (yellow) is flashing.
       > When you get this error message, are you still able to print?
    > Is there any lights flashing on the printer before trying to scan?
The scanning problems (not being able to save to file, and sometimes, “scanner not available”) are not affecting printing. The print function works beautifully, even though the machine seems to think its toner level is low (flashing yellow light).
    > Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and the USB cable is connected directly to the
    > computer.
    > The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet. Do you have another USB cable to try?
Printer was connected through a power bar. I changed it, straight into wall socket.
I do have another USB cable, have replaced the one I was using with the other one.
Same problem persists: “save as PDF” refuses to work: the file seems to disappear, and Spotlight doesn’t find it anywhere.
The only work-around I have found is to choose “e-mail” instead— this puts the PDF into an e-mail, from where I can move it to where I need it. This solves the problem, sort of, but it’s a tedious long way around.
    > Reset Printing System:
    > Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking > the plus (+) symbol.
    > 1. Click the Apple icon (  ), and then click System Preferences.
    >  2. Click Print & Scan.
It’s called Print and Fax on mine.
    > 3. Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left panel and then click Reset printing system.
    > 4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    > 5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    > 6.     Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected.
    > Then add the printer from the same window.
    > Click the + sign, select the printer from the list, click on the add button.
OK, all done. Closing SysPrefs and trying again.
Behaviour is largely the same.  Two issues:
1-  Now and then I get “scanner not available” message. Turning off the printer and quitting HP Director, then turning printer back on and restarting HP Director, usually gets past this “unavailable” issue— it scans successfully. Sometimes it takes more than one off/on quit/restart cycle to banish the “unavailable" message. This is not a faulty cable or connection issue. What the *$%^%# is it?!
2- scanned file won’t save— BUT here’s some progress: if I save under a different name, like “test”, there’s no problem. If I save under the name I want, which for the current page is “Arrival Va 1/2”, it disappears instead of saving. Could my problem be this simple: In the "save as file" dialogue box, I’m not allowed to use a symbol like “/“ as part of the file name?????
If that’s it, I can work around it, just saving the file and changing the name afterward.
I hate to think, after all this hair-pulling (and I don’t have that much to start with), it might be as simple as that!!
But it seems to be: saving as “Arrival Va 1/2” doesn't work, but saving as “Arrival Va 1 2” does.
Even if that’s it, I’d still much appreciate your thoughts on the “not available” messages...
Again, a million and a half thanks!!

  • My HP Photosmart Printer/Scanner will not scan since installing Maverick help

Since installing Maverick my HP printer/scanner will not scan documents print or save them, how can I fix this?

this worked for my HP printer/scanner:
    Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
if your printer is there in the column on the left:
    control-click on your printer
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
if your printer is not in the column on the left, go to the next step.
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
if you connect to your printer/scanner via wifi, reset the wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
if you do not connect via wifi, go to the next step
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple. If it won't, then try going to the HP website and there may be a new software package for your printer that is compatible with Mavericks. Download and install it.

  • Can not scan from mx4890dw buttons, only from the computer

    Hello,
I got this Canon AIO a few days ago. I followed the start up guide instructions, got it signed on to the wireless net work easily enough, and installed the software from the CD onto a Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop.
Printing worked perfectly from the get go. Also, "Copy" seems to be working fine. Fax appears to be working, although I can't confirm yet that a fax has gone through ( no one is at work ) and I may have some questions later about how to send and receive fax when sharing a phone jack with a Comcast modem/cable set up. And how to get it to accept faxs while ignoring voice calls.
As for Scan, after I figured out that I had to push the scan button and choose "remote scanner" ( I push the scan button/Remote scanner/ buttons, get the message "waiting" and then operate from the computer) the scan function worked perfectly, in single and duplex, when controlled FROM the computer and Canon MFC toolbox software. But for the life of me I can not get it to scan from the Canon mx4890dw buttons. I push Scan, then "computer", then I select my computer ( there is only one computer), then either color or BW scan. All seems OK until here. But after I select color or BW,  I get a screen that says :"Scanning" with the choice to either cancel or "confirm destination". I select Confirm destination, which then takes me to a screen which says: Confirm destination" showing both the name of my computer and "color scan". That is it, as far as I can go. If I press "OK" it just takes me back to a choice of confirm or cancel. I am trapped in a cycle between these last 2 screens. Once I get to the next to last screen that says "Scanning: cancel or confirm destination", the processing data light starts flashing green. After a minute or so it will stop flashing with the message "an error has occurred/CLOSE". Oh, BTW, I have registered the scanner on the Canon MF Network Scan Utility.
So, I figure there is some button I am failing to push, or I am missing a step. Any one have any ideas on how to get this to scan from the Canon machine?
    Thanks
    Bill

Thank you Deborah, but after many hours of trial and error, time spent with Norton 360 AV/Firewall folks, many install/uninstalls ( especially after I saw on the E-manual that if you plug a cable from the printer into the computer, and you want to go back to wireless, you must uninstall/reinstall the software), the problem is finally apparently completely solved.
I found what I thought might be the problem by accident. When I last got off the phone with Canon, all they had to suggest was that it was either a Norton or firewall issue, or possibly a computer issue, and nothing they could really do or suggest about that. I accepted this, but while wondering what in the world I was going to do, it dawned on me that my previous Kodak all in one( that this machine replaced) had worked fine, with no scanner problems at all, with this computer, Norton and network. So it seemed like it had to be something other than those things. And I believe a Canon inkjet all in one before the Kodak had also worked with no issues scan wise.
Then I decided to try something else on a whim: I cranked up my old Acer Win XP and installed the software, and guess what happened? Perfect function in all ways from the printer/scanner. Scanned perfectly from the Canon using the panel buttons on the printer. And over the wireless network on an old computer using the same Norton Firewall as my Dell. So it now seemed impossible that it could be the network or firewall. It had to be the only variable, the computer or someway the canon was in conflict with the Win 7 Dell. I bet you can see where this is going! So I go to the online support for Canon and sure enough there are Windows 7 drivers for download as well as a firmware update. So I down load these and clock on them, but as far asd I can tell, nothing happens. It appears they did not complete installation.
So the next day I am back on the phone with Canon. Asking in desperation if they can think of anything before I return this machine back to Staples and get something else, which I really hated to do, but I can't take any more of this, as now it had stopped printing also( but all still hunky dory on the Acer!). But this time, the person I am talking to quickly asks if I am trying to install wireless, and says "hold on while I get you to the wireless guys". The wireless expert listens to my problems and quickly says "did you download the Win 7X64 driver?". I said I had tried but it didn't seem to do much. So he has me download it again and shows me the trick: when you click on the download, it creates a folder somewhere else where the driver is actually stored. I click on that driver, and 10 minutes later all is working perfectly. In fact, before I even hang up with the wireless guy, I press the buttons on the Canon and scan quickly to the computer.
So for now all seems perfect, just as it was immediately once I tried it on the Windows XP machine. So I suggest that this be the first thing suggested when folks are having trouble installing on a Win 7 computer. In fact, I have since noticed there is a sheet of paper that came with the canon that advises downloading drivers for Mac computers. Too bad it didn't mention this for for Win 7 also, since apparently at least some of the installation CDs don't include these drivers.
Now I am wondering if I should try and do the firmware update? Kind of afraid to fix what ain't broke.

  • Psc 750 Will not scan

    hello,
I have a hp psc 750 connected via usb cord to my hp  pavilion dv3 running windows 7 64 bit.  I can copy and print, but it will not scan.  When I try it says I need a WIA driver needed please reinstall with the CD or get it from online.  Online says I don't need any drivers when connected via usb (very frustrating!).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.  I've tried both a partial and a hard reset of the printer.  I have checked that the WIA, Shell Hardware Detection and Remote Procedure Call are all "started" and set to "automatic."  I have stopped and restarted all of them as directed in other forums all with no avail.  I have downloaded and run the "Scan doctor" from HP and it can't even detect a scanner.  I am seriously at a loss and want to throw my printer across the room and as the warranty is no longer relevant I can't get a real HP human to help me without paying money (not going to happen).  Any help would be appreciated!
p.s. this printer was hooked up to another computer long, long ago and it's scan settings were set to that computer which is now completely dead so there is no way to change those settings even after "resetting" the printer.  It still wants to scan to a specific program on said old computer.  I have a feeling that is part of the issue, but have no idea how to "unset" the original settings considering even after I've done partial and hard resets, it still wants to scan to that location.
HELP ME BEFORE I GO INSANE!!!

    Hi dna0825,
    Sorry that didn't work.
I have provided a post from @pcwizard where he sets the Remote Procedure Call to manual and also the Shell Hardware Detection.
I would try this to see if it makes a difference.
    Restart the Dependencies services.
This is a Windows issue and I would highly recommend to contact the computer manufacturer or Microsoft to see if they can resolve this issue if that didn't work.

  • HP Envy 5530 will not scan

I originally posted this a week ago, and Sunshyn2005 was kind enough to reply.  However I was not able to reply to that posting, the web page would not let me edit the message body..... Perhaps an invalid character in the posted help.
Windows 7 64 bit.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver with the most current version.  I have tried rebooting , repowering up.  I have tried the diagnostic utility, it says the driver failed to communicate.  The scan driver failed to communicate with the printer.  Printer network settings have manual IP address on same subnet as computer.  Printer will print just fine.  I can also scan to email just fine.
The fix posted by Sunshyn2005, lengthy and ultimately produced the same result.  I appreciate the post, but now I am really frustrated.  I just wanted a printer with a working scanner, I scan a lot of documents and pictures.  Instead I have spent hours chasing this issue and fighting even to get a posting up in this forum.
Sunshyn2005, thank you for attempting to help, but I am afraid all of those instructions produced the same result.
    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/Scan/message-id/100287

    Hi @Whatever9999
I must admit, I got a reply on our previous thread and noticed you didn't write anything, you had quoted my post 4 times then tagged your post 'did not work'. I didn't understand, I thought you were being rude! I see now that you were having difficulty with the forums reply page, I am sorry that happened and for assuming you were being rude
I am very glad you created a new thread and we can continue working with one another to find a solution to your scanning issue!
I can't help but wonder if the issue is related to the WIA on your computer and nothing to do with the HP software. I know your diagnostic utility said it was a driver issue, but now that we have done the steps I had you do, let's try the Print and Scan Doctor again.
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor > www.hp.com/go/tools
Please post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks ( ), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches ( ), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points ( ), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X ( ), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
    Please follow the instructions below.
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
    Type services.msc and press Enter
    Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    Right click and open Properties
Stop the service from the General tab and then Start it again
Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic rather then manual
Also, look for 'Shell Hardware Detection' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically from its properties.
Locate the 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically as well.
It might be a good idea to test the computers ability to scan as well. Try using one of the following methods to scan. If neither work than the issue is related to the computer and if they do work then the issue is isolated to our software.
    Windows Fax and Scan Instructions
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Right-click the Start button (   ) in the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, and then type Fax and Scan.
Click  Windows Fax and Scan  in the results.
Click  New Scan, and then click Scan.
    How to scan with Paint
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Right-click the Start button (   ) in the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, and then type  Paint.
    ClickPaint  in the results.
ClickFile, and then clickFrom scanner or camera.
Select your printer, click OK, and then click  Scan.
Please let me know the outcome of these efforts. Thanks.

  • HP Envy 4500 will not scan to Mac

HP Envy 4500 will not scan to MAC.  Printing works just fine but when I try to scan the printer says scanning but never completes the scan, there is no error message.  I tried uninstall and reinstall of the software, upgraded to Mac OS Yosemite and tried re-install again, no luck.

    Hi @eallen1219
    From your description, it soudns like we may be haivng a osftware issue. Let's use the following steps to remove currenlty installed software, clean up the Mac, and reinstall the software again;

  • After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents.  You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out?  After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac.  It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

Have you tried using Applications/Image Capture to scan.
