A88X-G43 and Hybrid Crossfire Help

Hi All
Just got my hands on a new Mobo A88X-G43 and i am struggling with setting up of Hybrid Crossfire. This is the first PC  build for nearly 10 years so im alittle behind the times so lol
CPU - AMD A10-5800k Black edition
Gfx Card - Asus 6670HD 2GB
Ram - 4gb Kingston DDR3 - 1333 (currently) but i am upgrading this shortly
A friend of mine who runs a Gigabyte board and the same set up plugged it all it and it worked no problems.
I have installed CCC and the option to crossfire isnt there however it does recognize both the APU and the card.
I have googled and cant find any help so thought id come here.
Can anyone help with this please
Thank you
Leyton

it may be your BIOS configuration is stopping it being available!
go into your BIOS by pressing delete when you start your computer
go into Settings
go to advanced
go to Integrated Graphics Configuration
set your Primary display Adapter to PEG
set Dual Graphics to enable
save the setting and exit
now go into the AMD vision or Catylist and go to the Gaming section and in there go to Dual Graphics and enable it and it should set up the Hybrid Crossfire! then when you start a game it should use both the dedicated and IGPU in hybrid crossfire if supported!

    2. Installed MSI board drivers ("Total Installer")
    3. Rebooted & got no Windows Startup "Song"
    4. Played some mp3 files - nothing
    5. Went to Investors.com (IBD site) and clicked on the Market Wrap video, which started playing, but there was no audio.
    6. Checked Device Manager and everything looks good - no ! next to any devices, giving NO indication that there is a problem - just no sound.
    7. Did lots of online searches and reading and found issues with the Realtek HD drivers and the KB888111xpsp2 update.
    8. Under Sound, video and game controllers, in Device Manager, Uninstalled AMD High Definition Audio Device & Realtek High Definition Audio.
    9. Rebooted and the system found the drivers and reinstalled them.  Still no sound.
    10. Put in a Technical Support Service Request with MSI.  Below is my exchange with them:
End User   02/27/2014   I installed Windows 7 64-bit, installed the driver by clicking on the x icon. Things are working well, except my sound. I am getting NO sound from the headphone/speaker audio connection. I have connected known good speakers and known good headphones and am getting NO audio. I re-installed the Realtech HD audio driver and I still have NO sound. Please advise. Thanks you.
MSI Tech.   02/27/2014   It has everything to do with windows sp3. There is a glitch where you cant install windows hotfix kb888111 because sp3 thinks its newer then the hotfix. all you have to do is manually extract the .inf file from the KB888111XPSP2.exe file and load it for the questioned pci device. it will then detect the realtek hd audio device and you can then install the drivers.
    11.  I have extracted the 2 files in KB888111XPSP2.exe and placed them in a folder on my PC.  However, since I have no problems showing in Device Manager and the Audio Drivers installed without any problems, I am stumped.
A little background:  I am an Electrical Engineer by school and currently write embedded Software & Firmware, and often troubleshoot hardware problems.  I have put many PCs together, so this is not my first rodeo.  However, this problem has stumped me!
Please give me some detailed info on how to get my sound working completely.
    Thank you for your time!
    Jules

  • A88X-G43 Odd usb behavior Linux live boot Flash Drive

So i bought this A88X-G43 and it posts and all. I'm trying to install ubuntu server to an SSD and it's just not happening. I even tried just running the Ubuntu desktop live usb. It gets to the point where i can choose to run or perform the install, then reboots. When I perform a server install, i cannot boot into it, due to an error about a partition that did not get created.
    Hardware:
    APU: AMD A10-6800K
mobo: A88X-G43 *came with v3.4 bios, flashed to 3.5. flashed back to 3.4 for testing.
    PSU: Corsair  CX600m
    Hard drive: Patriot Pyro 120gb
Ram: 4gb of 1333 Samsung ram(testing from work computers) *Board would not recognize my Patriot memory.
I had an install running on another MSI motherboard same hardware(besides ram, worked on that board), with no problems.
I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A temporary fix is, when installing Linux whether desktop or server, you need to do the following.
When you're prompted for Language, you will see some Function key options at the bottom.
Hit Esc and choose F6 then use "nomodeset" then continue with install.
Once you have linux installed you have to edit grub. It will need to look like the line below
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"
Once you've made your edit and saved the grub file, update grub and reboot.
Tested and is a good workaround.

  • A88X-G43 - 'A2' POST Code / exFat Drive

I'm creating this thread for the purposes of pointing out an issue that's been plaguing me for the past month in the hopes that
my workaround can serve others that have this same problem
the issue can be brought to the attention of the appropriate parties in order to create a fix
Summary: On the MSI A88X-G43 motherboard with the most recent BIOS revision (3.4/2014-02-13), a GPT-formatted disk containing an exFAT partition will cause the BIOS to freeze at an "A2" (drive detection) code and fail to progress through the boot process.
I bought the A88X-G43 and a A10-7700K C/APU for use as a media/HTPC. Setup was easy enough and after a few attempts at getting all the appropriate AMD chipset drivers rounded up I'd managed to get a stable Windows install that I was all set to configure. In addition to the motherboard and processor, I bought a brand new Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB drive. I installed the drive, connected it and booted the system. The drive is detected and the POST process completes successfully.
It's relevant to the topic at hand to point out that when I formatted the drive within Windows I selected GPT (as you'd need to with a drive of this size) with a single exFAT partition (I'm planning to use Linux on this machine, so this filesystem was chosen due to its cross-compatibility). The drive formatted fine and I began copying my files to it.
By this point Windows had finished installing updates and prompted me to reboot. I did so.
The POST process was frozen with an "A2" error code. I powered off and back on, no change. I unplugged everything except my optical drive and the boot process progressed normally. I then added just my SSD and again, everything was fine.
I plugged in my 3TB Seagate and got "A2" once again.
I took a look at a few forum posts that detail the error code and it was made clear that it's an error related to enumerating the drives. Figuring I'd just had some bad luck (maybe the drive was damaged in shipping?) I decided to RMA it.
Time passes and eventually I get my 'new' (it was remanufactured, of course) 3TB drive. Same process. Plug it in, it works, reformat, copy files.
Once again, I reboot and "A2."
I didn't have any other systems at home at the time, but I'm confident in saying that if I had I would have quickly discovered that the drive was fine, it was just the enumeration process that was faulty.
Thinking the Seagate was at fault, I got a refund for my drive and bought a well-regarded Hitachi/HGST 3TB drive.
As you can imagine, I repeated the process and got the same result. A2.
At this point I *knew* I had to look deeper than the drive, so I unplugged it, went into the settings and enabled hot-plug for the HGST's port. I rebooted and, of course, A2.
Powered down, unplugged the HGST, let Windows boot normally and then plugged in the drive. Detected perfectly. All the data's fine.
So I open diskpart and clear on the drive. No exFAT, no GPT, just the bare drive.
I reboot and it's detected flawlessly.
Set the GPT partitioning on it and, again, detected fine.
Create an exFAT partition on it and boom, A2.
Now that I have a plan, I unplug/replug the drive like I did before and clear the exFAT partition, reboot and verify that the POST process works perfectly. THEN I go back and create a new partition, but this time format it as NTFS.
    Reboot, working great.
Result: So long as my GPT disk was formatted with an exFAT partition, the booting process never completed no matter how many times I tried. As soon as the exFAT partition was removed or replaced with a NTFS partition, the system would boot successfully.
I don't have the resources to test this further (do GPT formatted drives *smaller* than 3TB have this problem? I don't think non-GPT formatted drives have the issue because my USB drive is formatted exFAT and it's detected fine) nor do I get paid to look for bugs (I've already thrown away at least $80 in shipping drives around), so I can't tell you if this will help in other, similar situations.

    I've encountered this also.
I gave up trying different combinations and in the end formatted the second partition as NFTS (Ughhh).
Details (to add more data for the bug-hunters)
MSI Z87I-Gaming AC miniITX.  (Have found same fault on BIOS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 - only diff was 1.1 and 1.2 will let you press DEL and display "Entering Setup..."; but then proceeds no further, forcing a manual power off as POWER BUTTON becomes unresponsive, although RESET works))
    Hardware:
    Intel i7 4770K Retail CPU
    16GB Viper RED Ram 1600
    1 x Samsung 250GB EVO in SATA1
    1 x WDRED 4TB in SATA4 (EFI Partitioned with 150GB HFS+ Journalled, and 3.5TB ExFAT - now NTFS)
    1 x WDRED 4TB in SATA5 as NTFS
External TS-Media USB Bluray (not always connected)
    NVidia GTX770 4GB PCIe card
    Atheros AR9285 Mini PCIe WiFi
    Running Windows 8.1 64 in EFI & OSX 10.9.2
Have tried setting SATA ports to hot swap - no difference
Tried each WD Red in turn - no difference.
Tried WDRED in external as ExFAT - Same issue (had to connect post boot, but then worked fine)
Have not tried with Partition size smaller than 3.5TB, perhaps its a UEFI BIOS issue when its checking partitions for EFI Boot params?
Definitely seems to be a BIOS/UEFI hang somewhere in the init procedure.
All options in BIOS have been tried, and reset again.  System has never been overclocked and PSU is a Gold 80+ series 750W Corsair.
As an ex-tester myself I am flumoxed, but without a POST diag card, I can't see anything else to try.
Shame as I like 1 x NTFS and 1 x HFS+ holding mirrors of all my years of work files (some 3+GB now)

  • Hybrid Crossfire

Hi i need some help setting up Hybrid crossfire on msi DKA790GX mb
I have tried many different versions of ccc, but none of them show the hybrid crossfire button in ccc.
I have tried unistaling reinstaling all different ways, windows says on board is enabled and pcie card enabled but in ccc on board is disabled.
    My sysyem is:
    DKA790GX mb
    Phenom2 920 cpu
    windows vista 32
    4gb crossfire ready memory
    saffire HD4850 512mb gpu
    650w AMD/ATI ready psu
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated as i am pulling my hair out
    Thank you

From the research I've done into this it seems it can't be done...
You can only crossfire between the same GPU series...as the mobo has a 3300 gpu it will only crossfire with a 3xxx series card not a 4xxx.
Had a similar problem with mine...easily fixed it though by getting two HD4670 cards...

  • MSI A88X-G43 not booting

Hey, got some Problems after I set up my new desktop pc. Maybe anyone can help me on this:
The Motherboard won't boot. Fans are spinning but the connected display stays black and the speaker connected to the mainboard won't make a sound.
    I use the following equipment:
    MSI A88X-G43 Motherboard
    AMD Athlon X4 860K Processor
    GPU: HIS Radeon R9 270
    DIMM: Kingston KVR16N11S8/4 4gb
I tried unplugging the RAM as well as connecting the motherboard to different displays. Nothing seems to work so far. Maybe it has something to do with the version of the bios? Couldn't find the sticker with version number on the board though.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply.
I use a XFX TS 550 as a power supply. Should be enough i guess.
As for the CMOS: I've cleared it twice. Once with pin method (although there was no pin included to bridge the two pols) and the other time with removing the battery. Both times... nothing changed - still no screen signal.
I used both - the graphics card output aswell as the video output from the mainboard. Both times ... nothing changed.
The systems been out of its case as soon as the problems began to appear. There's a beeper stuck in the right place but it just wont beep. I tried booting without a dimm inserted to force a beep - but nothing happened. All fans spinning -_-
I had hoped, that it had something to do with the bios version and the amd athlon x4 860k...

  • Freezing issues with MSI 970A-G43 and AMD FX 8320

    Hey all,
I bought my brother a new system a few days ago, but he has had serious issues with the machine crashing ever since.
The machine has had a fresh installation of Windows 7, it has all the latest drivers for both motherboard, sound, chipset and video card (Latest VGA driver tested as well as the latest Beta version)
I thought the problem might be with the VGA card, as the computer would just shut off during 3d Gaming, but it also seems to happen when surfing the internet or doing normal "2d" activities
What happens is the computer will just seemingly shut off, the LED lights on the front of the case, around the dials, start blinking and the only way to get it back up again, is to turn if off at the power supply unit and then turn it back on again.
I'll paste in what my brother sent me (As I live in the UK and can't see the machine crashing myself), he said:
I dunno what the issue is but, last night the comp just shut off in middle of game play on 3 different games, and the lights were flashing, I had to turn complete power off to the power box and back on to restart comp, I kept checking all my temps with speccy and speed fan and nothing seemed high at all, also when it shuts off and I re start it, a lot of my desktop icons move around to different spots,
Update: crashed a few times on me, once playing euro, once just browsing Internet 5 min after the first one, changed out ram just for shots and giggles and ran euro on ultra for about 5 min and crashed. I dl a gpu monitor gadget, was accurate on temp but said the gpu was 0% but with just Internet would randomly jump to 99% or 40% then back to 0 and would stay and eventually crash
    Spec is:
    AMD FX-8320 3.5GHZ EIGHT CORE
    500GB SATA III 6GB/S 7200RPM 16MB
    COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120M WATER COOLER
    4Gb DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY
    MSI 970A-G43 AMD 970 CROSSFIRE AM3+ DDR3 USB 3.0 SATA
    CORSAIR 500 WATTS CX500 V2 80 PLUS POWER SUPPLY
ASUS XONAR DG 5.1 CHANNELS PCI XONAR DG SOUND CARD
    AMD RADEON 7750 2GB PCI-E
There was a concern I did have when I did search earlier, via a thread on Tomshardware in which a similiar board had issues with the FX8350's wattage going above the stated 125 watts and causing the board to freeze.
It's a different board/chip, but I wonder if the wattage of the CPU goes above 125W and causes problems on the board? Hmm
I feel really guilty right now, because I bought this for him as a present, it was $700ish plus shipping etc and it's been nothing but problems ever since.
I'm going to see what version of Bios he's running when he gets out of bed, but the Live Update software said there were no updates, but I'll have him check manually.
Another issue I noted, was I sent him some ram before the PC arrived, which was:
    XMS3 — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
He originally put that ram in with the existing 4gb of ram, so I thought it "Might" be a conflict, due to them having a different Mhz value
So I had him remove the 4gb stick that came with the PC
As soon as he entered the bios, it froze and did so twice
So he removed that ram and put back the original 4gb stick and the bios worked
No idea if the two are related.

I hope this doesn't count as necro-ing a thread (last post was in October), but it's the one closest to my situation.
    I have the following setup:
    MSI 970a-g43 motherboard
    AMD FX-6300 cpu
ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics card
    4x 2GB RAM sticks
    2x 500 GB 3.5" SATA hard drives
    CoolMax 700W psu
    16x r/rw DVD burner
cheapo SD and others card reader that fits in the floppy drive bay
Older PC tower that has a temperature sensor built into it
I built it around November 15th, and it worked until a couple days ago (December 12th I think), when it started doing the sudden shut-off thing. Same as Adresch described: shuts off, tower light blinks, have to flip the i/o switch off and back on to boot again. I consulted a friend for some suggestions, and he said I should put a water cooler in there, because the stock heatsink that comes with most processors are junk. So I went out and bought a Corsair H55 water cooler and installed that.
The computer seemed to run for a bit longer before shutting off. I loaded up the BIOS software, SpeedFan, and HWMonitor. SF said the CPU was running average of 48*C, and GPU was averaging 51*C. The CPU's highest was at 61*C and its lowest was 36*C. BIOS software said CPU was at 35*C the whole time. HWMonitor listed the GPU at 51*C, and the CPU at 7*C. These are all very inconsistent with each other as far as I can tell, so I don't know what to make of these readings. Didn't seem to much matter as the computer continued shutting off.
My options then being replacing the PSU or the motherboard, I decided to replace the power supply, since I was just within the 30 days. Switched for a ThermalTake TR2 700W. Before installing it, I pulled the tower's CPU temperature sensor wire from between the water cooler heatsink and the CPU, just in case. Then I installed the PSU, checked and rechecked all of the connections, and turned it on.
    Nothing.
I then spent the next two hours rechecking everything, even unplugging everything and putting it back together. Still nothing. The best I could get was a flicker of the tower light and the fans doing a quarter turn before ceasing movement. The red LED on the front of the SD card reader stayed on the entire time, though, so I guess it was getting at least a trickle of power. I also removed everything but the PSU, motherboard, CPU, and one stick of RAM. Still no power. I think the new PSU may have been open box, so I'm returning it today for a different one, and even bumping it up to 850W.
I'm not sure that will solve my original issue though, so I'll be looking for a heatsink to put on the VRMS as mentioned. Just thought I'd get this down in a relevant thread in case anyone had other thoughts on what could be going on.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Quote from: KrisWood on 12-June-12, 00:27:34
Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • How do you setup Hybrid Crossfire on AMD motherboards

Hello everyone.  I'm looking at putting together a new computer here soon and have become quite intrigued with the DKA790GX motherboard.  I know for Hybrid Crossfire that I'll be limited to a 3450 or 3470 video card supposedly.  To that end, the new 3450 with 512 MB of memory from MSI looks like a good complement, but after reading through the motherboard manual, it just tells you how to enable a normal Crossfire setup.  How exactly does HYBRID Crossfire work?  I assume you don't need a link cable, but where do you plug your monitor in (motherboard or graphics card) and is it enabled via the control panel in the same manner that a dual card setup is?  This setup would work for me for a few months until I can get a 4850 or 4870 since I plan on giving the 3450 to my father for his computer, but I like the look of this motherboard due to SB750 and DrMOS and I'd like to give the hybrid crossfire a go.  Thanks for your insight.

Connect the monitor to the on-board DVI/VGA port. The VGA card will then shut down until in 3D mode.
You enable it, like you enable any other CrossFire setup. CCC > CrossFire panel, etc.

Does it compatible: HP Probook 450 (h6r43ea)  and hybrid HDD Toshiba MQ01ABFxxxH (MQ01ABF050H) ?

    Hi tempo13,
I understand that you are looking for a compatible external HDD. I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at HP Enterprise Business Community.
    I hope this helps.

    2. Once the PC is shutdown OK, PC boots itself several hours later. Yesterday at 15:50pm PC was shutdown. At 21:18pm, PC automatically booted itself.
This is my first MSI and UEFI motherboard. What I would like is some advice on setting up the BIOS and the software to get sleep/hibernate working and no automatic boots.
I have contacted MSI regarding these issues, but they say they cannot reproduce them. I have subsequently googled these issues and of course, other MSI users are experiencing similar problems, but there are no obvious resolutions. Please can anyone help/advise?

    Hi,
I have the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming mobo and perhaps similar problem as discussed in this thread.
I wanted to be able to wake my PC from sleep mode via my USB connected mouse and keyboard. Therefore I went into BIOS and set the "Resume from S3/S4/S5 by USB Device" to "Enabled". And yes, now it is possible to wake my PC from sleep mode by just clicking any button on my keyboard or just moving my mouse a little bit. So far so good. BUT, another feature was also added which I did not want to have: By just clicking any button on my keyboard or moving my mouse a little bit the PC also started after I have "shut it down"! This could seem as the PC boot by itself but it does not, I have to move the mouse just a little bit (by accident for example when needing more space on my desk) or clicking a button on the keyboard. I THINK THE ROOT CAUSE TO THIS PROBLEM IS AS FOLLOWS: In BIOS, it says "Resume from S3/S4/S5 by USB Device". Instead it should only be "Resume from S3 by USB Device". S3 is the same as "Sleep" and S5 is the same as "Soft off" = PC shutdown. Do you understand what I mean? When I shut down my PC it is put into state “S5”. (NOTE: I have another PC with MSI Z77-GD65 and here it only says "Resume from S3 by USB Device" and no problem with any starting of that PC via USB device from a shutdown state, it only starts from the sleep state (=”S3”) as I want. How do I get rid of the "S5" state in BIOS for this USB wake up feature? (Btw "S4" is hibernate state which is not the same as a shutdown PC, therefore not causing this problem.)
ADDED No. 1: Please read msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa373229(v=vs.85).aspx for explanation of the different system Power states I mention above.
ADDED No. 2: My Click BIOS version is 1.8 for Z87-GD65 with release date 2013-12-06. On a Youtube video I have seen that version 1.0 of this BIOS has Wake up "Resume from S3 by USB Device" and not ...S3/S4/S5...

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!

I get error message: not enough space to download when I try to buy a tv series on Itunes. It tells me to delete photos or videos to make space, but I have no photos and videos. Help?

I would guess that a TV series takes up a fair amount of storage capacity. It is just a standard message I think that may indicate that you are actually running low on storage space.
If you go to Settings>General>About how many GBs are specified as being available?  If you are low on space maybe deleting some apps may help.

    Hello AlexCornejo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The screen you're seeing on your iPhone indicates it is in recovery mode.  Now since the device is not appearing in iTunes on your PC, first follow the steps in this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
After following those steps, you should be able to restore your iPhone.
    Take care,
    Alex H.
