ABAP Webdynpro: Capturing keystroke event

Hello,
There is a potential requirement to capture a keystroke event from a SAP standard webdynpro text box and provide a character count in a custom UI display text box on number of characters remaining.
From initial research - it looks like this may be possible with Unified Rendering Light Speed in WebDynpro ABAP?
http://help.sap.com/SAPhelp_nw73/helpdata/en/74/0beccf62a7425ab9e1b2077fa1bc6e/frameset.htm
If it is possible, how exactly would it be implemented.  (Which event / action would be used?)
It appears this can be activated and used on existing SAP standard webdynpros?
Thank You,
Mike

try something like this...
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
String s;
s = br.readLine();
if(s.equals("R")){
if(s.equals("R")){
you also can use s.equalsIgnoreCase("R") if u dont care if its capital or not

    Hi fellow Java Programmer
    I was stumbled upon what to be a simple question
    Is it possible to capture the keystroke event inside console-based application
    This is my scenario:
    I have a thread that is keep running for a predetermined amount of time,
    It is doing a background-sort-of-task. According to the requirement, it must be able to detect
    when the user press 'R' (which will trigger Reload) or when user press 'Q' (denoting Quit)
    I would appreciate if somebody come up with hint / snippet of source code

    I created an application in ABAP webdynpro , created an iview using the ABAP webdynpro option.
    My scenario : I have to create a work request in a ztable that I have created.
    For this 1) create a uniques number using number_get_next
                 2) insert the values into the z table and show message
    what is happening -->
    Application appears with no problems.
    when I click on button message appears
    What is not happening on the portal
    number get next doesnot get created

  • Java Portal Event not received correctly by ABAP Webdynpro

    We have a page that contains 2 iviews.
    iView 1 contains the MSS Employee Search that raises portal event:
    Namespace: "urn:com.sap.mss.employeesearch"
    Name: "selection_changed"
    The second iview contains an ABAP Webdynpro program that subscribes to the Portal event.
    The issue is that the event in the ABAP webdynpro is not being triggered.  It does get triggered if we first fire the event from the Java program, unsubscribe the event in the ABAP program them subscribe to the event in the ABAP program.  The event gets triggered at this time and the parameter can be retrieved.
    If the event is fired a second time, nothing happens in the ABAP program.
    The abap program works fine when another abap program triggers the same portal event.
    Also, the portal event is being picked up correctly by other SAP delivered JAVA programs.  I just cannot get a custom ABAP Webdynpro program to work...
    Any ideas, comments?
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
    Are you using https? Is your j2ee stack and abap stack in the same domain? In the past I have found that https can cause issues in the event communication between different applications.

  • ABAP WebDynpro: Handling the ON_ENTER Event in editable ALVs

    Sub: ABAP WebDynpro : Handling the ON_ENTER Event in editable ALVs
    Hi,
    I would like to know if there exists an event to handle TABout (i.e, when user navigates out of the cell with a TAB key-press) for a cell of an editable ALV.
    Alternatively, any help on how to handle ON_ENTER event and how it is triggered when data is entered by user into a cell of an editable ALV, would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Adithya

    Hi
    I had one similar problem where user enter something into the editable cell and press enter. to handle this scenario i used WDDOBEFOREACTION  method of my view to call alv interface method check_data.
    if there is any change in the any table cell, it will fire an event on_data_check..which has paramater column name, row index and new and old value of the cell.
    you can handle this event and write your business logic in event handler method.
    hope it will help

  • Unable to capture onClick event of htmlb:image in a controller

    Hi,
    I am trying to capture onClick event of an htmlb:image (which is present in my view) in DO_HANDLE_EVENT method of my controller.
    Surprisingly, when I click the image, page does refreshes. But the event in not captured in do_handle_event method. Control never reaches that method. Whereas if I put onClick event of a button, it is easily captured in do_handle_event method.
    Ex. code in my view is:
    <%@page language="abap"%>
    <%@extension name="bsp" prefix="bsp" %>
    <%@extension name="htmlb" prefix="htmlb"%>
        <htmlb:image id      = "searchimg"
                     src     = "consvalue.jpg"
                     onClick = "search"  />
        <htmlb:button id="searchbutton" onClick="search"
                                     text="Event Test"/>
    Now, the button event is captured, but not the image event.
    Any idea why this might be happening?
    Regards,
    Kaushal

    Hi Kaushal,
    are image and button enclosed by <htmlb:form> ?
    Please post your of do_handle_event, where you look for the event.

  • Calling different views at runtime based on my condition abap webdynpro

    Hi friends,
    Could you pls help me in this issue.
    I am new to webdynpro abap.
    I have an action on my first view.
    basically its a sales order linktoaction.  when i click it, i have to check a condition.
    if  process type = A,
    then navigate to view 2(different abap webdynpro component's view)
    elseif process type = B,
    then navigate to view 3(different abap webdynpro component's view)
    endif.
    I only have experience in calling one view for a action, so i dont have much idea on this how to acheive.
    I have this IF condition, on action event.ON that i need to call view of another application.
    thanks in advance,
    Niraja

    Hi Niraja,
    If you want to pass parameters to a WDA application you can pass them by URL link.
    Example: http://...?pass1=value1&pass2=value2 In this case you pass two parameters to the application.
    In WDA application you can control parameters in windows, you can add parameters in the plug 'Startup' which names are same as URL parameters, and then you can create notes/attributes in the context of windows then map them to the context of view. In the method of startup plug you can pass the parameters to the context of windows. You can search WDA help by WDA application parameters.
    You can check this [link |http://****************/Tutorials/WebDynproABAP/DynamicViews/Window.htm]for dynamic view navigation in a window. And no its a pdf file. It takes you to another website where they have explained it with step-by-step screenshots.
    You may also be interested in checking out this [link |http://****************/Tutorials/WebDynproABAP/views/navigation.htm]where they have explained Navigation from one View to other View along with parameters using Plugs with out using Component Controller context. It too isn't a pdf & does take you to another website.
    Hope these help.

  • ABAP webdynpro app not redirecting using Outbound plug in portal

    Scenario-
    There is one Abap webdynpro application APP1 calling another abap webdynpro component Comp 2 through outbound plug on a button click. This is working fine if service is tested independantly.
    SAP ECC system is having a webispatcher and the application should be accessed using webdipatcher only i.e. ECC should not be called directly.
    SSL has been configured b/w ECC and webdipatcher.
    The Abap webdynpro application APP1 is integrated into portal using Abap webdynpro iview.
    Setting in Portal system are reffering to Webdipatcher for ECC system instead of ECC system directly.
    Issue-
    App1 is loading successfully into portal and all the data is coming properly but when trying to navigate to second component on button click it is not navigating. iview is getting refreshed but not redirecting to required component and is still on the same application.
    Please suggest the reasons and solutions if anyone has clue about it.

  • Calling an ABAP WebDynpro Popup from a BSP view

    I need to know if the following is possible.
    I have a requirement to call an ABAP WebDynpro Popup from a BSP view.
    When the Popup is triggered (eg via pushbutton) the BSP will pass data to the Popup, before the Popup is closed the Popup will pass data back to the BSP to be displayed in the BSP view.
    I do not want to rely on Portal Events as Portals may not be used, would really appreciate a clean simple solution.

    Hi,
    any webdynpro application has a URL behind it. Haven´t you tried to call that URL with Javascript code ??
    script language="Javascript"
          url = "test_page.htm" + "?field=" + param;
          window.open(url, "F4window", "width=400, height=400");
    /script
    You can pass data to the WD application using parameters as I show you after the "?".

  • ABAP Webdynpro - Populating second table based on data selected on first

    Hi Experts,
      I am new to ABAP Webdynpro. I have a requirement to show a search area, one table for header info, and second table for populating item level information.
      I was successful building a search area and populating first table when the 'Search' button is pressed.
      Now, I like to populate the second table with item details if a row on first table is selected. I tried to bind the OnSelect Event of first table to a method and try to get the results and bind to second table.. However, I am unsuccessful in this attempt.
      Here are my questions/challenges.
      1. When I select a row on first table, how can I extract the key information?
      2. Is it sufficient to create a context attribute and populate it with FM and bind that with second table?
    I appreciate your help in answering this question.
    Thanks,
    SG

    Hi,
    Regarding...
    1. When I select a row on first table, how can I extract the key information?
    When you select any row in table, a lead selection will be set in the node which bound to the table.
    To read this selected record you need to use the following code. Here the name of context node is "FLAGS". And the structure ls_flags contains all the attributes defined in the node.
    DATA lo_nd_flags TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node.
      DATA ls_flags TYPE wd_this->element_flags.
      lo_nd_flags = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_flags ).
      CALL METHOD lo_nd_flags->get_static_attributes
        IMPORTING
          static_attributes = ls_flags.
    Regarding....
    2. Is it sufficient to create a context attribute and populate it with FM and bind that with second table?
    Based on the data that you got in the first step, you can fill an internal table with data that needs to be displayed in 2nd table.
    To bind the internal table you need to define the internal table of type context node. Use the following code to bind the internal table to context node which bound to 2nd table. Here name of  the context node is "OVERVIEW".
    DATA: lo_nd_overview TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node,
                lt_overview TYPE wd_this->elements_overview.
    <<<< Fill lt_overview with data >>>>>
            lo_nd_overview = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_overview ).
            CALL METHOD lo_nd_overview->bind_table
              EXPORTING
                new_items            = lt_overview.
    Alternatively you can use the Supply Function Method.

  • Shut-dump in ABAP WebDynpro

    Hi Guys,
    I'm new to ABAP Webdynpro. I'm trying to display data in from table VBAP in webdynpro ALV and I get the following runtime error. Neither I'm able to debug the error (external break-point doesn't stop in my action event, may be it's dumping before that) nor able to get any clue waht exactly it means. Can somebody please help.
    I get the error "Lower-Level Node with Name INPUT_VIEW.T_VBAP Does Not Exist".
    I have 2 view in my application, INPUT_VIEW and OUTPUT_VIEW. My Input VIEW consists of node T_VBAK (wit 2 fields VBELN and ERDAT), and OUTPUT_VIEW with T_VBAP (with 4 fields VBELN, POSNR, MATNR, MATKL).
    Thanks,

    Hi
    You are right, VBELN and ERDAT are input fields and when user press the button following event triggers ONACTIONGET_DATA (button is associated to event GET_DATA). Inside this event, I have the following code. I was trying to debug this code if something wrong here with external debugger but systems dumps the error before it reaches here.
    I'm copy pasting the code here... Can you please tell me - what is wrong with the code OR if you can guide me how to debug to check if select fails on VBAP.

  • How does ABAP webdynpro architecture works......

    Hi experts,
    I am new to Abap webdynpro and i have a task to finish.
    Basically i gone through many documents on WDA, but was able to understand very little.
    I have following questions --
    1. When u create component, what is the use of component controller?
    2.. What exactly context and context node difference? Do we need to create an attribute(input box, button etc), under one context?
    3. How can i read the date entered by user? where to read? If i want to read a particular iinput box data and save it to database table, how and where it has to be done?
    4. How can i read the table data, complete table of UI?
    5. What is an interface controller/component?
    I still have lot of doubts about understanding MVC architecture, but I am so so sorry as I have little scope OO abap, so fining difficult to understand.
    Kindly if someone explain me I would be greatfully thankfull to you.
    Thanks in advance,
    Niraja.

    Hi Niraja,
    I am replying to your questions 1 by 1.
    +When u create component, what is the use of component controller?
    +
    Ans A component controller contains the context,attributes, methods etc for a component. No component can exist without this.Even a view has its own controller having same contents.
    All the tabs which you see after clicking on COMPONENT  CONTROLLER constitute the controller.
    What exactly context and context node difference? Do we need to create an attribute(input box, button etc), under one context?
    Ans: Context itself is a context node, but the only difference is that its the root and has unchangeable properties.It has a fixed cardinality of 1..1 where as a node can have different properties.
    All nodes and attributes for different UIs are created in the context only.
    How can i read the date entered by user? where to read? If i want to read a particular iinput box data and save it to database table, how and where it has to be done?
    Ans: Data can be read in form of nodes and attributes. Every UI element for example an Input field will be bound to a attribute.
    You can read these values by code ( use CODE WIZARD).
    You can code in any methods given under method tabs.
    You can create your own methods like event handlers for buttons and different events. You can write all your queries in these methods
    +How can i read the table data, complete table of UI?
    +
    Ans: If u mean by reading the whole node data, I would suggest you to use code wizard and understand the code.
    5. What is an interface controller/component?
    Ans: If you want to share your component and make it available for use in other components you define your make your methods and context visible in this controller .

  • Your opinion on:  BSP or Java Webdynpro or ABAP Webdynpro?

    Could you please give me your opinion on the business scenario we have here:
    We are implementing SRM 4.0 with backend R/3 4.6C, WAS 6.4 and Portal 6.0. SRM has its typical shopping cart applications mainly for procurement and the workflow trail displaying the approval. The client wants us to build a few custom forms on the web frontend of SRM (or may be in Portal). The idea is to store these forms and display when needed with the status info just like a shopping cart.
    <b>Now the requirements for these forms are as follows:</b>
    1. These forms will have multiple fields which need to have the F4 kind of help. (the F4 options will reside in SRM or R/3)
    2. The form should have some kind of a ALV grid  (autoexpanding feature) which will allow the user to put in multiple line items so that they could submit more items on one form.
    3. Users need to be able to attach a spreadsheet to the form which should not be editable once the form is submitted. The attached spreadsheet should be stored. (We are planning on using Archivelink Filenet for this)
    4. Upon submission, a workflow will be kicked off as per the defined Org structure for approval of the form.
    5. After submission, the user should be able to go and view the approval status of the form and also print the summary of the values that he entered in the form. (may be a smartform could be provided for this)
    We looked at different options to accomplish this task:
    <b>BSP:</b>
    Creating BSP pages and giving access as links to the user on the webfrontend of SRM. Now, if we go the BSP route, we need to develop in SRM as the R/3 4.6 c does not have BSP development capabilities. If we take this approach, I am not sure if all the above requirements (specially like attaching spreadhseets) will be met with BSP pages.
    SAP Webdynpro Java:
    It seems that the Webdynpro is easier to use because of the graphical tools available. But the only problem if we go this route is that we will have to find a java guy.
    SAP Webdynpro ABAP:
    We currently have WAS 6.4. As per the documentation, the ABAP Webdynpro development tool is available from NW04s onwards. So, we are still not sure if we could use it. But, we want to push towards upgrading if necessary. Being an old time ABAPer, developing ABAP Webdynpro seems do-able. (i know it may not be that easy).
    Last but not the least, DIALOG Program:
    Creating a dialog program in R/3 or SRM seems fairly simple. Then, an iview could be created on the portal for this transaction, though at this point I am not sure how a spreadsheet could be attached and stored within a dialog program.
    The creation of the workflow may not be that bad after the original form is designed. The graphical display of the approval trail might be difficult, but we might get away with a report for that. For printing the details of the form, I guess I could develop a smartform and put out a button on the screen to print it out in the display view.
    Could you please give me your opinion /  best approach for accomplishing this task, keeping in mind the complexities of these new dimension products?
    Thanks
    Sri

    I would say that all four solutions to solving your tasks are technically feasible.  Here are some thoughts that I had however:
    First ABAP Webdynpro: it is true that ABAP webdynpro is only available with Netweaver04s.  04S is still in ramp-up which means that only a subset of the customer base is allow to implement it.  It will not become generally available until later this year (check the service marketplace for current release estimates).  That being said, it probably elimintes WDA as a possiblity for your project unless you are will to wait and to upgrade.
    However having worked with WDA for a while it is probably the best tool to custom develop what you describe.  It has excellent built-in F4 value help.  It also has a damn fine ALV grid implementation.  The spreadsheet could be just as simple as file upload in binary or your could try your hand at office integration.  Finally for the form you could use Adobe Interactive Forms which also has very nice integration into WDA.
    Now to Dialog Programming: You could of course use dialog programming.  It seems a little bit of a waste to custom build something so large if WDA is in your near future.  There are obvious disadvantages (little OO structure, no MVC, etc).  You would have ALV grid, office integration and of course F4 help.  You could still use Adobe forms if you implement this on the 640 system.  However there are integration points with dialog and Adobe Interactive Forms.  You could still use printed forms however. If you did the dialog program on the 640 system, you could use the integrated ITS to expose it to the web.  The integrated ITS in my experience has quite nice performance although the look and feel remains just like the SAPGui.
    The Java Webdynpro route:  Well you hit the nail on the head - if you don't have a Java programmer already and you don't have the bandwidth to invest in learning Java, this can be a problem.  The Java Webdynpro environment is quite nice.  There are some things I like better than ABAP and some things that ABAP is defintely still better at.  However when it comes to heavy integration with an ABAP backend - ABAP Webdynpro is still the way to go.  Java Webdynpro does have a help feature (OVS), but it isn't "for free" or nearly as nice as the ABAP Webdynpro (perhaps it will get there some day).  That is one of the major advantages of WDA - its closeness to the business data brings several framework advantages like F4 and field help.  WebDynpro Java in 640 also doesn't have an ALV grid implementation.  I am sure that this is something both environments will eventually have, but right now ABAP has the advantage.  On the other hand, Webdynpro Java has equal support when it comes to office integration, file upload, and Adobe Forms support.  You would have a more difficult time integration SmartForms however.
    Finally we come to BSP.  Honestly if I were in your position I would probably choose BSP (unless you could wait for the ABAP Webdynpro upgrade).  You could build a nice MVC OO application using BSP (stateful or stateless).  The BSP product is mature and quite well documented thanks to SDN.  You have the BSP Extensions which when used in Design2003 use the Unified Renderer.  That means that your output will look nearly identical to the same UI elements in Webdynpro.  Also BSP supports portal integration (session management, eventing, and themes).
    The downside to BSP is that it isn't a full framework (also one of its advantages).  You can insert all your own html and javascript (unlike webdynpro). But this also means that SAP doesn't delivery as many framework services.  For instance there is no ALV or Value Help.  There is no Office Integration or Adobe Forms integration.  There is some farily good Smart Forms integration.  Now the upside- many people have already hit these limitations and overcame them.  In the weblogs on SDN and in a certain SAP Press book (cough, cough) you will find out of the box solutions for many of these problems.  You can find ready to use solutions for Adobe Integration, Office Integration (using Microsoft Office Web Controls), and F4 help.  It will mean investing a little more time up front to get this "home grown framework" up and running - but it is perfectly feasible.
    There is a learning curve to all these new technologies however.  This sounds like an abmious project.  I wouldn't want to try and tackle this project in any of these technologies if I was new to them.  With Webdynpro or BSP - consider giving yourself time to learn the environment and cut your teeth on some demo apps before jumping into such a huge development.

  • Communication of two ABAP WebDynpro Components

    Hi there,
    I am new to ABAP WebDynpro so please excuse me when the question is very simple.
    I haven't found an entry concerning the Communication between two different ABAP Components that could answer my question, so I am hoping that you can help me.
    My problem is:
    I want to start a WebDynpro Component out of an other WebDynpro Component. The WD Component which will be called needs two Context Attributes and the Lead Selection of one Context Node from the calling WD Component.
    How can I do the Mapping? Or how can I pass these information to the second WD Component? I have read something about
    wdr_task=>client_window->get_parameter( 'NAME' )
    but I do not thinkt, that this works because the method exports a String...
    I would be very glad if you could help me, if it is too easy and obvious please excuse me but how I said I am new to ABAP WebDynpro =)
    Thank You
    Greetings,
    Sebastian
