About 64 bit platform

can an oracle application on 64 bit platform be migrated to another. say from HP-UX 11i to windows server 2003.
what is the difference in scalability issues between HP-UX 11i on PA-RISC 8700 ( 8 cpu) v/s windows server 2003 (enterprise edition) on Itanium 2 ( 8 cpu)
how much the OS and the cpu/chipset matter if the memory/RAID configuration/controllers stays the same.

No.
You have to make sure you use the same kernel patchlevels on all machines.
There are "two 64bits" for Windows, one for Itanium-2 processor and another for 64bit Xeon or AMD processors. Take care that you use the correct installation and kernel.
SAP refers to those in installation guides and DVD lables as
Itanium-2 = IA64
Xeon or AMD = x86_64 or x64

Hi - apologies if this has already been answered. Is the WTK 2.5.1 supported on Windows x64 platforms? I installed but when trying to run any of the demos receive an error about one of the DLLs not being supported on a 64-bit platform. Console output below:

In order to support virtulization, Redhat added xen kernel(kernel-xen) from RHEL4U5 or later and RHEL5. If you were to run any virtual guest(especially paravirtualized virtulization), you would pick xen kernel.
Standard kernel manage it's own memory, hardware, etc, and there are many real device drivers in it. Xen kernel need communicate with hypervisor, which is under xen kernel and really manage hardware. And xen kernel makes hypercalls when it needs to operate some hardware. There is no real device drivers on xen kernel. So from size, xen kernel is a little smaller than standard kernel.
Just like what Bing said, you had better use standard kernel for your case since you would not like to run VT on your servers.
Additionally, you may go there to know more about Xen/Oracle VM/virtualization technology.

    Hi,
I have created a single tile and getting below error in standby0.wrf file.
As mentioned in doc, I made a windows 32 bit for standby VM and installed 32 bit staf followed by staf configurations.I installed all the critical updates for windows.

    Rebecca,
    I appreciate your quick response.
I am running the test from Primeclient. I am planning to add more tiles once tile0 runs fine. Client0 runs separately.Forgot to mention this in last update.
I assume prime client generates all wrf files. when other VM's .wrf files are generated fine, will it be still primeclient side error??
Primeclient is windows 2008 sp2 64bit. Initially I installed 32 bit java and ended up problem while starting the  VMmark2-STAX.bat. When i installed the 64bit java, problem vanished. I assume java version is correct.
Similary initially i installed a cygwin 64 bit but i got error like "Error VMmarkRMQmgr unable to clear  queues". So uninstalled it and installed a cygwin 32 bit and the problem vanished.
I am seeing the standby VM is relocated fine during the test. it is just it is not capturing the data in .wrf file. Standby VM configure section does not talk about java installation. is there anything else i am missing it?
I would like to know whether  below error talks about standby VM because standby VM is 32 bit other side primeclient is 64 bit. below error says on a IA 32-bit platform.

  • SQLDeveloper error "Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform"

    Hi
    I've installed SQL Developer.
It starts, but when I try to connect to the HR database I get the following error message:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
    C:\oracleee\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN\ocijdbc11.dll: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform
Vendor code 0I already have Oracle EE installed, and have installed JDeveloper today. Both are running with no problems.
SQLDeveloper, I initially downloaded without the JDK, but that didn't work, and reading the many replies to other people who had had the same problem (something about mscvr7.dll or some such), as per their exhortations I downloaded the SQLDeveloper that includes the JDK, which happens to be 32 bit (there is no 64 bit SQL Developer with JDK bundled with it). I'm running 64-bit W7.
Can anybody help me here? I don't have much of a clue when it comes to JDKs.
    Many thanks,
    Jason

    Hi,
is the problem that I don't have a 64-bit JDK? I thought it might be the other way round.
I think the following says I have a 64 bit java something, though is that the JRE, rather than the JDK?
    C:\Users\J>echo %JAVA_HOME%
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin
    C:\Users\J>java -version
    java version "1.7.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_04-b22)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.0-b21, mixed mode)
    C:\Users\J>java -d32 -version
Error: This Java instance does not support a 32-bit JVM.
    Please install the desired version.
    C:\Users\J>java -d64 -version
    java version "1.7.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_04-b22)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.0-b21, mixed mode)So, am I not running 64-bit? Maybe I need a 32-bit JDK...but then...SQLDeveloper was bundled with a JDK and there was only one option for that - 32bit!

Hi I am trying to use Berkely DB in netbeans java on 64-bit windows platform. I have downloaded and configured JDK 7 32 bit in project properties. This problem was also coming before for simple java app but it resolved after configuring jdk in project properties but for web application its not working

XML berkley db doesnt seem to support the java 64 bit model.
In our Java application we get this error when using JRE7 but not JDK7 or JRE6
The difference seemed to be that in JDK7 and JRE6 you can use java -D32, but thats not possible in JRE7 (you must use java -D64. So it seems to be a difference in JRE7 and JDK7 as well

  • Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms + temp folders in the root

Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms creates temp folders for some pdfs with attachments in the root of Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 bit machine. Do you know how to solve it?

After having tried all the different suggestions out there I "stumbled" on the REAL solution to this problem (for me at least).
Ensure that the "Windows Search" service has "Allow service to interact with desktop" enabled:
After enabling this you need to restart the service.
Please note that this fix alone (not doing anything else) solves the problem :-)

  • 32-bit Windows 7 app on 64-bit platform oddity

An application compiled for a 32-bit platform runs correctly with an SDK that is compiled for 32-bit only, either in debug or release mode from Visual C++ Express 2008, on a 64-bit computer.
The target platform in the compiler options is set as X86. The compilation is for Win32.
However, when the release version is run outside of Visual C++ - that is, on its own, as an app - the SDK thinks the app is 64-bit, and returns an error of "not supported" (the SDK error message).
The application is mixed unmanaged and managed code, where the bulk of the routines are unmanaged with #pragma unmanaged at the top of the file after includes. The managed code portion is just for a few routines to use the MicroChip software. Thus
the code is compiled with the /clr option.
The application interfaces to a number of other 32-bit DLLs with no problem. The application has been working fine under all of these conditions for some time, and in different installations.
However, the new SDK that was just recently added, appears  to be using some information somewhere to think it is running 64-bit, in stand-alone release mode only. It works fine when run under Visual C++ either in debug mode or release
    mode.
I have looked all over for any other option that needs to be set to 32 bit for the SDK to know that it is working in a 32-bit app, albeit on a 64-bit platform. (There is no support for the SDK.)
Are there any computer settings that have to be changed?
Thanks for any suggestions.  Btw, the problem also occurs on VC ++ 2010 Express.

  • Native dll lib and 64-bit/32-bit platform

    Dear All:
My java app uses a customized native dll. My question is, if I want JWS to work on both 32- and 64-bit platforms (maybe more accurate, JRE), do I have to compile the DLL into 32 and 64 bit versions and configure JNLP so that it can identify the underlying JRE and use the proper dll? If so, how?
Also, I tried to specify the dll in such a way as <nativelib href="products/signed-xyzLib.dll.jar"/> but it give me exception that shows the system looks for the dll in firefox or jre/bin's directory, even thou the dll is downloaded and resides in the temporary cache (in my Windows 7, it's like: .../AppData/LocalLow/Sun/Java/Deployment/cache/... ). Why is it not found by the system (javaws, I suppose) ?
    Thanks,
    Johnny

well, I consulted this link (http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t126704-java-webstart-and-jni.html) before I posted my question. It says I need to wrap the DLL into a jar file first. and after JWS is launched, the dll file in question was unpacked and resided in the user cache. I am not sure if it's necessary but it seems doesn't hurt.
    Thanks,
    John

The "com.ibm.bluez.jcop.eclipse_3.1.2\os\win32\x86\" directory is in the folder plugins in your eclipse path.

    Hello,
can any body please let me know the performance issues, differences between 32bit and 64bit of oracle application sever 10g? I heard there were some differences... where can i find the information try to look in oracle site not much help...
please help me out because we are in the process of installing the 10 application server on 32 bit platform on windows 2003.
    Thanks much....

May be possible but it is probably not tested by Oracle nor is it supported as error correction support for OAS 10g has finished more than a year ago.
A good starting point is My Oracle Support Note [url https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=564174.1]564174.1, "Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) Installation Requirements for Linux OEL 5 and RHEL 5". Make sure that you always use a 32-bit emulated shell (linux32 bash).

  • Got "Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform"error on 64-bits VM

    Hello all:
I created a jnlp file, which includes a executable jar and a wrapped dependent jar of two DLL files inside. When I launched JWS, I received the error: "Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform".
    Now the basic facts:
    1. the JVM is 64-bit:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode)
    2. I can see the extracted dll files under "C:\Users\John\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\7\6bf8cfc7-4da2ddf0-n",
    3. If I copied the executable jar file to the aforementioned location and run it, it works w/o complains.
Also when I tried to clean the cache by clicking the "Delete Files..." button in the control Panel -> java applet, it seems not working - the files are still there.
My OS is windows 7, the removal seems working on Win XP.
    Thanks,
    John.

I don't know if you are still having this problem but it is related to the browser that is used to launch the JNLP file.
Most browsers are still 32bit and use the 32bit version of the JRE. So that means when you click the link for the JNLP, from Firefox for example, it launches the 32bit version of Java because the java plugin for Firefox is still 32bit.
Thats why it works when launching is locally because it uses the default JRE which is the 64 bit one for 64 bit operating systems (as long as it is installed).
    Hope that helps,
    Mike
