About playing videos in my new iPod Video

How do I do to save videos in my new iPod video?
I know I have to save them through iTunes, I just don't know how, because every time I try, it says "sorry, iPod can't reproduce this video".
Do I need a special program or something? Please someone help me!

Here's a few links to look at for converters...

the last one is for Mac, not Windows, you didn't say what type of computer you have. First three are Windows though

  • NEW IPOD VIDEO DON'T PLAY VIDEOS!!!!!!! it's a trap!

    I,
I just baught new Ipod VIDEO 30 GO; baught QUICKTIME PRO to transfer and read .AVI, Divx... on my IPOD.
I paid a QT PRO that doesn't read .AVI or WMP, results:
1/ White screen with bad sound or no sound
    2/ Error -37 or -2048
3/ Oh miracle sometimes QT PRO reads, but with a so bad quality!!! The same AVI file being red perfectly with VLC, WindowsMP, Realplayer...
I tried all codecs upgrading... Nothing better
Well anyway I try to transfer this poor QT quality video (20 mns; 100 Mo) on my IPOD to see... 10% file in one hour, ok I let it all night: ERROR at 27%
So, M. Steve Jobs, why don't you tell us that this new IPOD is not a real video one!!!
If (by luck) anyone did a successfull transfer with an .AVI or WMP, tell everyone how you did this miracle, but my conclusion... we have been fu.... by a marketing product!

Neither the iPod nor QuickTime can read WMV files and Apple has never claimed that either product will. If you want to play WMV content on your iPod, you'll have to find a third-party product that can convert the WMV movie to a format the iPod can support (the supported formats are documented in the tech specs as well as many other places).
As to AVI, there is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. QuickTime supports some of the most basic codecs used in AVI, but an AVI movie may use many other codecs including one of the Indeo codecs or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
So there's probably absolutely nothing wrong with QuickTime nor with your iPod; you just need to learn the formats that it supports and get your movies converted to those formats.

  • Locked on BLANK WHITE BRIGHT SCREEN. Brand Spankin' New iPod Video 30gb

    Hi all,
I JUST opened my new iPod Video 30gb. When I hooked it up to sync and charge, its icon appeared in iTunes for just a second then disappeared. Then it locked on "do not remove" so I did a reset. Then I put in on the dock again and the same thing happened, it popped up in iTunes and my desktop for just a second then disappeared. So, I tried to reset it again. But now it will NOT reset. It is locked on a bright white blank screen. Any attempts at resetting and the iPod gives a weird chime and continues its blank bright screen. Now it will not do anything. It won't show up in iTunes, it won't show up on my Mac, it won't respond to ANY buttons on the click wheel or anywhere.
Geez, I just opened the freakin' box! And of course I can't find ANY phone numbers to get a quick answer from Apple. I've been with apple since 1984 and this is really intolerable.
    PLEASE HELP!
Oh yeah, and i CANNOT restore because it can't link to my MAC

Judging by the info on your post, you're in the US. Apple's tech support number is 1-800-APL-CARE. They're open 9-9 Eastern time.
    For the issue you're experiencing:
Hold down menu & select until you hear the beeping.
As soon as it beeps, hold down select and play/pause for about 10 seconds or so (it may or may not beep again).
See if you can restore it now.
If not, call Apple for tech support.
    Hope this helps

  • Trouble with a new iPod video (and a question)

My new iPod video is causing my computer to freeze when I connect it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. After that, it seemed to be going OK, but it only downloaded about 500m (of a total of 50g) before iTunes froze again and stopped downloading (of course the "Do Not Disconnect" icon on the iPod stayed there, but I had no choice but to disconnect it!).
All of my music is on an external Seagate hard drive coming in through one of my USB inputs. The iPod is on the other USB input. Could this be part of the problem? I don't think it's a drive letter issue since it did start downloading the last time before freezing.
Also, I'm wondering if I can use my old firewire cable from my previous iPod to speed up the transfer process once I actually get the thing working.
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • The New iPod Video !!!

I saw the specs for the new iPod Video
but they mentioned the 80g but not the 30g.
Is there any upgraded specs for the new 30g iPod
    rather than the cheaper prize?
I love everything about the new 80g including the increased playtime of songs and videos but the
only thing that i don't like about tis the thickness..
So I hope that the new 30g iPod video has the
    increased playtime to....
Does anyone know about the new specs for the
    new 30g iPod Video??

I finished the test and I get five hours of video playback with the backlight completely dimmed, but its not an ideal setting to be watching movies. So I have the backlight 1/4 as bright. So I should get like 3.5 hours video playback. I called Apple and apparently the new 30GB iPod does have a longer battery life and 60% brighter screen. Would it be worth getting if you are able to return your iPod? I would say "No" especially if you have it open. The restocking fee is 10% of how much you paid for. I paid $288 for my iPod so I would have to pay $28.80 for the restocking fee. So if I did refund it and bought the new 30GB iPod for $249.00 plus the $19.85 tax and also add the restocking fee of $28.80 I would have paid $297.65 compared to the iPod I orignally bought for $288. I'm still going to go to the Apple Store tomorrow and see if I could return it through the Apple Store and see if the restocking fee might get waived, but I doubt it. Its still worth a try since I pass by it coming home from school.

  • New ipod video not recognized by my computer at all

i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? does anyone have the same problem as me? i really want to start using my new ipod help please.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)

If yes, how can I do this?
    please help me!

    Yes, you can.
We would have to know what video file types you want to put on the iPod.
However, please post in the Fifth Generation iPod forums for more info...

  • Transferring my music from an old ipod to a new ipod Video

I have just bought a new ipod video for my son who has an old ipod - how can I register his new ipod when one is already on my profile and how then do i get my music onto my new ipod from my old ipod profile
    many thanks
    paul

The way I do it if all of my items are on my iPod and not in my library is make sure that the old iPod is connected via USB or Firewire. Go into your Windows Explorer and the iPod should be recognized as a drive letter. Click the pulldown menu "Tools", "Folder Options" and then click on the "View" tab. Under "Hidden files and folders", check "Show hidden files and folders." click OK and then click on your iPod folder. You should see a "iPod_Control" folder. Take that folder and copy and paste the entire contents somewhere to your hard drive. Make sure you make a subfolder prior to such as "iPod Backup." Once that is done, in iTunes navigate to File, Add Folder to Library. It will bring all of your music into your iTunes library and begin to re-tag all of the music (you need to be connected to the Internet). From there, you can unplug the old iPod and plug your new iPod in. Drag and drop from your library to your new iPod and Voila!

  • HT1695 I know nothing about how to use my new ipod and when reading the little bit of information in the folder that came with it, all I can do is turn it on, but it just powers down after a few seconds.  How do I work this thing?

I know nothing about how to use my new ipod and when reading the little information that came with it, all I can do is turn it on.  Then in a few seconds it goes black, never having brought up a screen to do anything!  Help!  What do I do to get this thing going?

You might consider connecting it to the charger and charging up the battery overnight.

  • New tv episode from iTunes "can't be played" on my 80GB 5G iPod Video

I have a 6-month-old 80 GB iPod Video, and I recently downloaded one of the free CW premiere episodes from the iTunes store (specifically the S3 "Supernatural" premiere, entitled "The Magnificent Seven.")
Every time I sync my iPod, I get the same (annoying) error message popping up:
"The Magnificent Seven" was not copied to the iPod "(my ipod name)" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
The software for my iPod is the most up to date, as is my iTunes software (just updated that today.) All other tv shows previously purchased from the iTunes store (and other mp4 files I uploaded on my own) all play with no problem.
I'm really hoping that this does not mean that any future video purchases from the iTunes store will not play on my newly outdated iPod. I'm wondering if (well, again hoping) it's a limitation because it was a "free download."
Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for your help!

    See if this helps.
iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.

  • New iPod Video not Synching after initial Synch

Here is the history. My old iPod 20GB died last week and it was going to cost $271 to repair it. It was cheaper to buy a new 5.5 30GB Video iPod, so I did. I love it, but I have one small problem. After I connect the ipod to the computer, iTunes recognizes it and synchs all the appropriate files and settings. When the synching is completed, however, and the iPod goes back to the battery charging screen or menu, iTunes will no longer synch with the iPod. Sometimes I get an error and sometimes I don't. One of the settings I was trying to change was to only synch checked items. I would click the checkbox, and then click apply. iTunes would say it was synching please do not disconnect, but the iPod did not react at all.
I have called apple support 3 times, and the first guy said it is a harware issue and they are sending me a new one (it is going to take 6 days :P). The next two guys did not have a clue as to what the problem was.
I have restored the iPod twice. I have reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes 7.1. The iPod has version 1.2.1 on it, which is the latest.
I don't see how this could be a "hardware" issue. The iPod plays videos and music just fine. And it synch just fine in the initial connection to the computer.
Does anyone out there have any saged wisdom with regard to this issue? I really don't want to wait 6 days for a new ipod just to find out I still have the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Chris

The Widows Media Player is junk and people often complain about DVD playback issues here.
    It's a player issue.
I know there are better Windows DVD players - someone here will suggest one (I don't do windows).

  • Video out from new iPod to TV (not photos)

OK, let's get an answer to this once and for all.
Can you play your own video (not purchased music videos or TV shows or iPhotos) on a TV/Monitor using the new iPod?
This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300224 seems to say no.

Since that article was created on October 19, 2004 and the article indicates that it applies toiPod with color display (also known as iPod photo)I don't think it has anything to do with the new iPod that has video capabilities.
Maybe someone in the iPod > iPod with video Pre-release has an answer... or guess.
