Absolute cookie nightmare...can anyone help? :(
I'm trying to write a program in java that will log onto this page: (http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/uwcn). However, the cookies on this page are proving an impossible task to handle. When I go there in my browser, it sets an intial cookie (alteonP=blahblah) and then two further cookies (Ctemp & Cperm).
However, when I connect to the URL using an HttpURLConnection object as follows:
URL url = new URL("http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/uwcn");
HttpURLConnection http = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
String cookie=http.getHeaderField("Set-Cookie");
System.out.print(cookie);
I get no cookies sent by the server ? the program returns null! I've tried turning off redirection, but the response code is always 200 OK, which means its not trying to redirect me is it?
If I create an input stream from the above connection and output the HTTP Body returned by the server on the above request, I get the error message:
<CENTER><H2>We are unable to recognize you as having access to this Gale Group Product</H2></CENTER>
The best information we have about this problem is: <CENTER><FONT COLOR="#FF4500">Temporary cookie support must be enabled in your browser in order to use this product.</FONT></CENTER>
So somehow I am missing the cookie!?!?!
I've tried printing out the entire header returned by the server, which returns the following every time:
null HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date Wed, 29 Jan 2003 12:17:56 GMT
Content-Type text/html
Connection close
Server Netscape-Enterprise/3.6 SP1
Via 1.1 webcacheH10 (NetCache NetApp/5.3.1R2)
And there is no sign of anything that resembles a cookie or any other identifiable information, so can anyone help me understand where I am missing the cookie support? I've tried turning off redirection and cacheing, tried connecting and reconnecting and also tried changing the user agent, but nothing makes a blind bit of difference!
I ultimately want to log onto the site, which requires passing the connection to the following URL http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/uwcn?id=100117976 but seeing as I can't even get the site to send me a cookie, I'm a long way from achieving this I think :( I'm beginning to think the HttpURLConnection object isn't the way to go about this, given the grief its caused, but it must be possible mustn't it?
So, if anyone can offer some support on the above, it would really be appreciated.
Curious...
I run a tool that I have developed to analyze http/https sessions and I get the following:
Requesting : [http://infotrac.galegroup.com:80/itweb/uwcn] (1) times.
<----------- Server Response ----------->
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Set-Cookie : AlteonP=5b2cd03b5b2cd0fa; path=/
Server : Netscape-Enterprise/3.6 SP1
Date : Wed, 29 Jan 2003 20:47:48 GMT
Content-type : text/html
Connection : close
<--------------------------------------->
using another utility in the same tool I send 20 requests
looking for the cookie field and I get the following:
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0f8
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0fa
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0fc
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0fe
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0fb
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0fd
Set-Cookie : 5b2cd03b5b2cd0ff
....(rest of responses were truncated) ...
here is the section of my code:
URLpathClearText = new URL( "http",
targetHost,
targetPort,
path
targetURLClearText = (HttpURLConnection) URLpathClearText.openConnection();
targetURLClearText.setRequestMethod("GET");
// get the cookie value cookiestring="Set-Cookie"
targetURLClearText.getHeaderField(cookieString)
I hope this helps.
If not I may be able to send you the tool to test it your self.
Let me know (I'm at [email protected])

When I want to make a phonecall with my iphone5, I hear absolutely nothing....no ringing and no talking when connection established. When I make the same call but now on speaker, no problem or what so ever, can anyone help me ?
Hello there, RobenCaatje.
The following Knowledge Base article is specific for the issue you're describing:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
Specifically:
Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro D. -
I get an error stating cc cookies dir: cannot make folder / cookies: Permission denied (error 13) when I attempted to download the creative cloud installer on my Mac. Can anyone help with similar pop up window? I'm trying to get a trial version of CS5.
You do not need to involve Creative Cloud to install/try the trial version of CS5...
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

My iPhone will do absolutely nothing. It won't charge or start up. I've tried several different chargers and none of them work. I've tried restarting it and everything, but nothing works. Can anyone help?
Sounds like it is time to take it back to Apple and ask them to repair it for you.

I can't connect to bbc website in firefox. Each time I get the same message: "the connection was reset". Can anyone help?
I can connect http://www.bbc.co.uk/ & you may be interested in http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics
Is your problem with streaming audio broadcasts to and are you outside the UK ?
If so you may have fallen prey to the BBC's Content Distribution Network which often seems to produce problems they keep re-issuing advice such as:
*''Why am I having problems listening to BBC radio outside the UK, such as experiencing poor sound quality or the station is not working?25 May 2011 20:28'' [http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/outside_the_uk/radio_problems_international/ <-- this ] -
I just recently updated the software on my ihpone 4 to the iOS 7 and now my iTunes Store does not work. All of my other apps work perfectly fine except iTunes. Whenever I open the app, the icons for music and movies and tv shows come up, but when I touch them, nothing happens. The screen is just blank. And I already tried updating again, updating iTunes on my computer, turning my iphone off and on, and resetting my ihpone, and nothing works. Can anyone help?
I searched this site for ios 7 and itunes store and found numerous others with the same problem, and several suggested solutions. One said that they had blocked all cookies and that was apparently the problem. I had done the same thing - blocked all cookies. So I set cookies back to "third parties and advertisers" and that solved the problem. Now the itunes store is working.

Can anyone help with iPlayer and Sky Mobile?
Ok, I'm so close to giving up with this useless phone. There are 3 apps on my N97 which give me a constant headache.
BBC iPlayer
Sky Mobile*
YouTube
*I should point out that I only use Sky Mobile to set recordings on my Sky+. I do not use it for, nor have any desire to use it for actually watching Mobile TV.
All of these apps work absolutely fine over my home WiFi network. It's when I try to use them over 3G (my Vodafone Live! connection) that I start running in to trouble.
All 3 give me connection problems, errors, and simply refuse to load half the time when on 3G. I got so annoyed I just did a hard reset the other week, and magically all three started working again. However, now 2 of them are failing me again. YouTube (touch wood) is working fine at the moment, but iPlayer and Sky Mobile just aren't.
iPlayer sometimes works. But sometimes I get script errors (unable to load content), and sometimes it says something about checking my connection settings. I wouldn't mind but it's not actually possible to access any options for the iPlayer. Even in application settings there are no options you're able to set.
Sky Mobile simply flat out refuses to work ever on 3G. But it did after I did a hard reset for a couple of weeks, now it just stopped working! It wont even load. It just gives the error message 'Unable to connect to network - please check connection settings" or something along those lines.
I've tried so many different things. Tried setting my internet connections to 'always ask', tried setting it to default to Vodafone Live! all the time, tried setting my video streaming settings to WAP, all sorts. Every combination I can think of.
I just can't wait to get rid of this phone. I've put so many people off buying one. They see it and think it's all swish and cool, and I just say 'Don't. You'll regret it'. I can't wait for my contract to be up so I can upgrade to an iPhone now Vodafone have got them.
Can anyone help with these problems? Thanks in advance, but I don't hold out much hope...About iPlayer.
Have a chat with Vodaphone. Streaming iPlayer over 3G IS allowed on Vodaphone contract, unlike my O2 contract. As long as your contract allows it, and you have the correct AP address, it should be fine. Vodaphone should be able to give you the setting.
Mine only works over Wlan.
FWIW, "... streaming over 3G is not currently available on iPhone handsets on any mobile network".
p.s. Just to be clear. You say "Tried setting my internet connections to 'always ask', tried setting it to default to Vodafone Live!".
iPlayer uses the Nokia browser "Web". So that's where you should make the setting "Ask when needed". It should then offer you the choice of whatever you've set in Destinations> Internet> then select whatever you've chosen as your GPRS connection.(as advised, or sent to you by Vodaphone). -
HELP?! my iphone 4S wont let me turn my wifi on since updating to iOS 6.0.1?

also i have no signal as i am on 3 so i can not currently use my phone till the wifi is working again and this is driving me mad!
can anyone help?This is a link to the Apple support page on this issue. Have you tried all of these steps?

Not sure what you mean that you have no signal but are on 3. What are you trying to say? -

Can anyone help with my Linux issues?
I have Linux Ubuntu v9.04. I hate it. I'm really new to it and I don't know how to use it. My major issue is that I can't watch viedos!
I have Mozilla Firefox. When I type in about:plugins, I get this lovely little thing:
Shockwave Flash
File name: libswfdecmozilla.so
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r999
MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash
Adobe Flash movie
swf
Yes
application/futuresplash
FutureSplash movie
spl
Yes
Ok so I know I have adobe flash, and it appears to be version 9. I want to download "Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 Linux," but when I do as a package and all that jazz I says I already have the latest version installed! Very false! I would LOVE to watch my videos, so can someone PLEASE help me?
How do I uninstall it btw? There are no directions for Linux users. I'd really like to start fresh and try and make this work.
Can anyone help me? Is there anything I can do?
Please keep in mind that I'm new to Linux, Absolute Beginner new.Ok, I have restored my phone as a new phone and signed into iCloud for contacts and mail, I have set up my email accounts and downloaded some of my apps, but the battery life is still bad, does this mean my battery is done?
The phone is 10 months old. -
I am unable to transfer my audio book from my Mac laptop to my iPhone. Can anyone help me?
Then restore from you Mac laptop's backup, if you have not been backing up then you may be in for a very painful lesson on why backing up is the VERY FIRST thing you should do with any new Mac. Create a backup plan and use it on a regular basis. If the laptop was using 10.5.x or later then you have absolutely no excuse for not backing up. Sorry for being terse and blunt but Time Machine has been built into 10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x so we have had years to have a seamless and mindless method of backing up. If you have been using an earlier verision of OS X there are quite a number of methods of backing up.
If you aren't successful then take the laptop and iMac to your local Apple Store or AASP and they may be able to help you recover your contacts. -

ebay will not load on safari, firefox or camino, but all other sites load without any problems. Why is this? Can anyone help?
It should be: Click on Home Folder (the House) and to the right Library is shown, click on the arrow on the Library folder to reveal its contents and then click on Cookies to reveal its contents and then move the Cookies.plist to the Trash as Carolyn suggests.
Then try eBay again. -
Problems connecting to Exchange - can anyone help?...
I'm trying to connect a Nokia N900 to our Exchange 2007 server.
I've copied and installed our self signed certificate to the phone.
After entering the details of our exchange server it attempts to connect but I keep getting the following error:
"Either exchange server requires a secure connection or your account it disabled"
All of our other devices (iphones, blackberries) work fine with the exact same settings.
This seems like a common issue - one that Nokia are unable to help with.
Can anyone help me?Good luck. Odds are very strong that something is cooked and the phone will have to be replaced. Drying it out with rice may work, but that's almost always a temporary solution. The corrosion has already begun and sooner or later, it will fail completely. Hopefully, it will wait until after you're eligible for an upgrade again.
