ACC and virtualization

i didnt see information which explain virtualization and ACC.
no one says Virtualization is prerequisition of ACC.
i was thinking SAP develop ACC is for virtualization. am i right?
i am thinking,
1. i should install virtual machine
2. add DI to virtual machine
3. use ACC to control relocation of application host
am i right? whats relationship between VM and ACC?

If you've been there, these keywords without Linux usually lead to HP-UX and HP VSE OE with Integrity VM. But, if you try to find legitimate and practical alternative, it turns out that RHEL with Xen is the only good choice.
I have several system copies running on RHEL5.4 Linux with Xen virtualization platform, most of them are SAP ERP based with Oracle 10.2.0.4, ECC 6.0 EhP3, both on HVM Windows Server 2003 guest systems and on PV RHEL5.4 guest systems, few IDES systems, one with NW7.0 and Portal. All this is running on HP Integrity / Itanium 2 hardware (BL870c), and FC SAN, HP EVA 5000 and EVA 8400 is used for storage. What I'm interested here above all is to hear if there is anybody out there having some similar story (SAP, Itanium, and virtualization) ? Please, speak out if you are listening ...
I have some documents prepared and in preparation with details (I will put it here or in blog if there is interest), but for now just in short: systems are quite good, performance could be compared with some physical systems and production servers, but above all it is very stable. We also use VMWare for x86/x64 in our company, so I am able to compare these two platforms. There are many pros and cons, but I think that both offer good solutions. One of the main conclusions is that Xen on Itanium compared to HP-UX offers similar if not even better performance (that is, at least until HP finally gets implemented AVIO for HVM Windows guests), and if you are not in need of some high-end features (including live migration), Xen is better. There were some bumps on the road, though - Oracle showed me a bug (some workaround is available, though), but the biggest of them all is that RHEL decided to abandon support for Itanium in RHEL 6 ... SLES is a good option, but it is not supported by SAP at the moment. Any comments, questions, hints, insights, advice ?

I ment, not just hardware vendors (Oracle, Microsoft, SAP, ...) - IBM had the most performant system based on SAPS and benchmarks for long time (AFAIK, if it didn't change in the mean time, Oracle also made a competition, I don't know if anyone took the claim), but it had even worse cost/performance ratio than HP Integrity. If you want high end performance, Itanium can give you solid single-threaded horse power that x86 couldn't offer (again, AFAIK), and this is very important for databases and some business systems - it is not always about parallelization and number of concurrent users per system.

Unfortunately or not, my management decided to move on with Itanium (but unfortunately for sure they decided years ago to go into production with Windows). You are right up to some point - Itanium is EPIC, but it is not just for scientific and FP, why would they've been sold successfully as platform for database servers for years ? There are IA64 CPUs with additional FPU and cache, and there are different versions and platforms - what did you exactly compare ? Generally it's still not that clear IMO. And here comes my favourite anegdote about Itanium raw performance: while doing an Oracle 10g patch (CPUJan2009 bundle, I think or something like that), carelessly for some reason (I usually don't do it that way, of course) I haven't read the patch README and I have omitted to do additional view compiling by habit (many patches/patchsets do not need it beside the usual compiling). Production database node has two dual 1.1GHz processor modules and 8 or 16G of RAM at that time (mx2 modules, let's say it is like 2 CPUs with dual cores), and the moment I have had database ready for use I have concurrently read that I need additional compiling which needs about 30 minutes for average database with 2000 objects by internal Oracle benchmarking/testing. I have sighed, did query and saw three to four times more objects in my database than stated in the README manual, and started swearing in myself about complicated corporate procedures and flows about informing users, system availability, internal QA, etc. So, I decided to put system back down with my teeth strongly clenched together and started these two scripts on production system (not the usual situation, I repeat). It lasted not more than 5 minutes ! I didn't have to follow all the strict QA procedures, inform users, and so on ...

If you go to Settings > iTunes & AppStore , you can sign out from your account, and sign in with the one you've used to purchase apps.This will not remove any apps you already have on it.
Then you can go to AppStore and download apps you've purchased (either via "Purchased" button in "Updates", or simply search for them and download them.
That way you can have multiple accounts' apps on your iPad. When updating, you will be prompted for the credentials for account you've purchased given App with.

Is it an IMAP or POP account?

If you've clicked the 'send reset info' link as described in step 5 on that page and you haven't received the email (how long ago was it and you've checked the spam folder as well as the inbox ?) then you could try clicking it again. If that doesn't arrive within the next couple of hours or so either then you could try contacting iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.

We make use of containers/zones heavily (together with ZFS as filesystem) and it works like a charm. We also use on one box Solaris Cluster together with containers.

MDM and virtualization

Hi there,
for different projects I need different patch versions of MDM running on one laptop. So far I never used virtualization however read in this forum that it is possible. Does anyone have any experience with that? I downloaded a trial of Altiris SVS, but I didn't really figure it out. Does it anyway work with software virtualization (thinstall, Altiris) or do I have to use OS virtualization like VMWare?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Inorfer to make the term VIRTULIZATION clear:
Virtualization is a broad term that refers to the abstraction of computer resources. One useful definition is "a technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources from the way in which other systems, applications, or end users interact with those resources.
in MDM this includes
a) making a single physical resource (such as a server, an operating system, an application, or storage device) appear to function as multiple logical resources;
b) or it can include making multiple physical resources (such as storage devices or servers)
The traditional model for deploying SAP MDM has been to use one or more stand-alone computer systems, each of which runs a single operating system. As the power and capacity of individual hard processing cores, network interfaces, and mass storage peripherals has increased, the actual utilization of these hardware components has, in many cases, decreased. An immediate result of this combination is the desire to consolidate more than one software application or workload on the physical server. This practice is generally referred to as
hardware consolidation. To address this desire for efficiency, HP provides a broad spectrum of hardware partitioning and sharing technologies. Grouping hardware components of a physical computing configuration into subsystems or partitions is one approach to hardware consolidation.

I am havering trouble with an app purchase. In the app there are gems you can buy an I tried to buy $50 worth but it kept saying it wasn't working. Then I checked my bank acc and it has charged me $1 four times. I don't need it to change to $200.

For the $50, does anything show on your account's purchase history ? If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases. On your phone you can a cut-down version of your purchase history, and optionally contact iTunes Support, via http://reportaproblem.apple.com
For the $1, did you add or change your credit card details on your iTunes account ? Each time that you do so a small temporary store holding charge (i.e. $1) may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.

ISCSI and Virtualization

Has anyone used the iSCSI features in the NSS326 or any NSS300 product for virtualization support?
I am looking at a purchasing a small Dell server with a Citrix DOM and no hard drives. I would like to create virtual discs on the NSS326 using iSCSI both for the operating system and possibly for storage as well.
Does anyone have any recommendation or feedback? Is this a viable configuration?
I would like to use this solution for small clients with 5 to 50 concurrent users. Usually with about 1TB of shared CAD drawings and a few web apps along with Active Directory.

So I have a C210 Rack server using the internal on-board NIC attached to a Cisco 3750E. There are NO disks
in the C210 M2 Rack server and I boot from the network via ISCSI off the NSS326. So the way I booted
VMWare is that I first went into the BIOS of the C210 - configred it to boot via ISCSI off the NSS326.
(of course you have to configure the NSS326 for ISCSI). I used a 50Meg partition on the NSS326 here
is a screen shot:
After the BIOS was setup to boot from ISCSI off the on-board NIC of the C210 - I droped in a DVD that had
vsphere 4.1 install on it and installed vmware on the ISCSI partion across the network. (I guess I could
have mounted the .iso via the CIMC from the mgmt port on the C210)
Then I booted the server from ISCSI.
Regarding the C210 vs C200 - the C210 has room/options for 16 drives for local storage. In my case
I didn't want local storage so I used the NSS326. The nubmer of drives is really the only big difference
between the C200 and C210 - of course you need memory and processor but those are options
you can configure for you requirments. (I am using E5620 Intel processors with 24G of memory in the C210 server)
I am a big fan of shared storage when using VMWare - since all your machines on the network have access to
the virtual machines - moving them is very fast and easy takes seconds for small test systems or desktops.
(ps if I get time I'll do a write up of how to configre the BIOS to boot from ISCSI on the C210)

double check the passowrd. Failing that delete the account form the phone and carefully re enter all the information making sure the incoming and outgoing server names are correct as well as user name and password

System 11 Hyperion and Virtualization with Hyper-V

This can be considered as a minor GUI bug.
Let me explain. Live Migration and Hyper-V Replica is supported on both Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 Hyper-V.
This is because we have the Hyper-V Replica Broker Role (in a cluster) that is able to detect, receive and keep track of the VMs and the synchronizations. The configuration related to VMs enabled with replications follows the VMs itself.
If you try to live migrate a VM within Failover Cluster Manager, you will not get any message at all. But VMM will (as you can see), give you an
error but it should rather be an informative message instead.
Intelligent placement (in VMM) is responsible for putting everything in your environment together to give you tips about where the VM best possible can run, and that is why we are seeing this message here.
I have personally reported this as a bug. I will check on this one and get back to this thread.
Update: just spoke to one of the PMs of HRM and they can confirm that live migration is supported - and should work in this context.
