Accents issue

Hello,
i have a little issue with displaying accents in my flash
forms.
The "saving" of information is no problem. When i enter
à é ü ä in my flash forms, they are saved
corerctly to mySQL DB.
When i make a query and retrieve info from the DB, however,
it displays strange characters such as squares or so ...
I have put the below code in my application.cfm (i saw this
somwhere on the net, looking for a solution).
Have you experience this issue?
How can i solve it?

what encoding for the db? what db driver? should be the JDBC
& probably should
add "using useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf8" to the
driver url (advanced
menu) if indeed you're using unicode.

in what? flash or html? squares indicate that the browser
can't render that
glyph using the current font. don't know what you mean by the
"or so" part.

Spanish accents not displayed correctly

I'd like to ask you if anybody knows how to make my spanish accents correctly diplayed.
We have uploaded RAR Functions and our descriptions contain accent written words.
Any help our guidance will be appreciated.

Spanish Accents not displayed

Hi
When I receive xml that includes spanish accents using
XMLSockets, the accents are replaced with a square eg.
aqu�ra instead of aquípara.
I am trying to dispaly the xml in the trace window so it
should not be font dependant. I can paste the accents into a text
box in the swf and it displays correctly. I have tested the xml
server using VB.net at both ends and the text appears correctly. It
seems to be when Flash decodes the xml. Can you suggest a work
around to this.

Problems with finder since updating to 10.9

Hi,
Since updating My Macbook Pro to 10.9 Mavericks I can't copy files to my external. It stops, they disapear, it's just not working as it has for Lion & Mountain Lion. Any advice?

For some strange reason the accents issue seemed to be resolved before I followed your suggestions; no idea why! Tried your tips and yes, the special characters are there when I go to Edit>Special Characters, but no change after the False/True process. Still not in the menu bar even though it's ticked under Keyboard preferences. GotBattery, Input Source Date etc etc, but not the Keyboard or Characters still.

Points policy for non elite members stinks

I made an $800 purchase two weeks ago and just got $80 in Reward Points. I went to my local store to make a purchase that was only $40, and the employee that was handling it said he was sorry but I would lose the remaining $40 on the reward certificate as they cannot give change, credit, or any type of refund for purchases made on a certificate.
Basically, I was going to lose $40 if I made that purchase. He then suggested that I login to the BB website and modify my points certificate amounts to smaller amounts that came closer to the amount of my purchase.
However, when I got online I couldn't figure out how to do that so I called their Help number. The first person I spoke with had such a TERRIBLE accent that I couldn't understand her so I disconnected the call and redialed. Please note I have worked for computer companies that employ people from dozens of countries around the world and I have NEVER had this kind of an accent issue! This woman was NOT ready to answer support calls in English.
The next person I spoke to told me what I wanted to do was not possible, and when I asked for his supervisor he put me on hold for 30 minutes. Funny. Real funny. Hey conspiracy theorists, was this a ploy to get me to drop off and forget it?
The 3rd person I spoke to put me on hold and spoke to his supervisor himself, and came back to tell me that if I were to spend an additional $800 I would be an "elite" member and therefore have the ability to manage my certificates, delete them, and reissue them in smaller amounts. Seriously? Drop another $800 to save $40? Wow. Was this a support call or a sales call?
This fellow also told me that the rewards were computer generated as soon as they were eligible to be issued, and that customers basically have NO way to control the amounts of the certificate sizes (unless they're elite members) so they either have to be lucky enough to want to spend the exact amount of the certificate, ADD more of their own money make up the difference, or LOSE money by wasting a larger certificate on a smaller purchase.
That's a pretty crappy way for BB to save money - by making it impossible for us to spend so they recover it anyways, or having customers buy stuff they don't want or need.
I'm not impressed Best Buy. Your CEO just stated in an interview that BB was being used as a "showroom" for internet purchasers and wanted to keep us in the store so we would purchase from BB. This is not the way to keep happy and loyal customers. Once I am done with these points I am done with Best Buy.

Accent Insensitive collation issue

Hi there.
I'm using visual studio 2005 crystal reports and sql server 2005.
I believe crystal reports is not using sql server's collation for accent insensitive. When I use a RecordSelectionFormula such as:
" Like 'as'" the report is not showing data such as "ananás", although sql server is set to Accent Insensitive, which is a huge problem in our case.
Is there some way to solve this issue?

Ah, now I see what you are asking, the issue is you need to use wild cards....
Wild cards won't work in the formula editor because the wild card character is a valid character in any text string. No one will ever reserve the "*" or "%", if so they could not be used in any string.
You can use them in SQL because the DB/client SQL interpreter understands what they are and in SQL it is a reserved escape sequence character.
As for a work around in a CR Record Selection formula you can AND the values:
"as" in {Employee.Last Name} AND "a" in {Employee.Last Name} AND "s" in {Employee.Last Name}
Changing the order and also using OR will filter the filter but the logic may not work for all instances.
The only way you would be able to use wild cards is to use a SQL Expression or a Command Object with Parameters. Something where the SQL would/could be used which accepts wild cards.
If Jason Long see's this post he's a SQL guru and uses SQL Expressions and Command Objects extensively and has likely done this already.

Is anyone having issues with their iPhone 5 music controls in a 2012 Hyundai Accent, both on Bluetooth and using a headphone or USB cable? My music plays but I cannot skip songs without physically using the iPhone 5 controls. Thanks!

I have an AT&T iPhone 5 purchased from an AT&T store - it is a normal phone, no changes, no jailbreaking. I tried using my phone and my girlfriend’s iPhone 5 with the USB auxiliary cable in my 2012 Hyundai Accent. No matter what connector I use (headphone, USB, auxiliary) it doesn't charge or allow me to use the Hyundai’s controls to change music. Music will play through the Bluetooth system, but I cannot control the music unless I physically touch my iPhone. My iPhone 4 has a USB auxiliary cable and works perfectly; it charges and I have full control of my music without having to touch my phone. Nothing works even if I use the adapter that connects the iPhone 4 charger end to the iPhone 5. The picture below shows the iPhone 4 USB cable but it needs to have the (blue) iPhone 5 adapter.
Here’s the best part of this whole situation. I was told by Hyundai Customer Care that there is a specific USB cable available for my iPhone and that I need to contact a dealer. However, two Hyundai dealerships have told me that they do not have a cable, that Apple has not made a cable for the iPhone 5, and that I need to contact Apple directly or order it from an Apple store. It gets better. I contacted an Apple Store and they told me to contact Hyundai. I explained what I wrote above and they put on a call with Apple Customer Care. After 37 minutes on the phone with Apple, they still couldn't give me a satisfactory answer on how to get this cable or if they even had a cable (Case ID 505467409).
So here is the magical question: Is there a working adapter for the iPhone 5 that connect to a 2012 Hyundai Accent? It needs to play music, charge the phone, and work with the car’s controls. Thanks!

The problem is that you're using an uncertified lightning to 30-pin connector (the blue cable). If you purchase the 30-pin to lightning cable (either online, at an Apple store or an authorized dealer) it should work fine.
I have a 2011 Tuscon and tried the lightning to USB cable that came with the phone - no dice. Talked to my local Hyundai dealer and they don't have an eta on the Hyundai lightning cables (I'm sure it's in the works).

Pages 5.2: two letters with accent (e.g. "éé") issue

I use the Dutch version of Pages 5.2 with OS X 10.9.2.
Whenever I type two vowels that both have accents (e.g. "één", "héél" or "dóór") my typing cursor disappears as soon as I enter the second accent. Normally (as in: in Pages '09), this would be the order of typing:
' e ' e
The accent is highlighted in yellow and when I press 'e' it creates the 'é' character. Pretty straightforward. However, in Pages 5.2 the second accent isn't highlighted in yellow and makes my cursor disappear, giving me this:
é'
Pretty annoying. Anyone else experience this?

The behavior that you are experiencing does not occur with a North American version of Pages v5.2.
Try just holding down the letter e and waiting for the accent pop-up panel. Then you can either choose the accented character choice with mouse, trackpad, or keyboard (in this case 2).

Issue with Characters (tilde, accent and more)

Does your indexed data (which you hope to match) contain "sofá" or "sofa" (no diacritic)? If the latter, and in-general, you may benefit from the dgidx flag --diacritic-folding* as described in documentation "Mapping accented characters to unaccented characters". If you are running the latest version, this is all that should be required to generate a match.

Issue Regarding Latin Characters - Accents and Symbols

I should first introduce myself - I'm a first-year student of database administration. Right now I'm learning the basics of java language.
The problem I'm facing here did not happen in past versions of JDK (Last one I used was 1.5.0 Update 6), but now, with version 1.5.0 Update 9 installed, it just won't go away.
This image pretty much illustrates my entire problem. Characters with accents and other latin symbols are not being displayed properly.
At first I thought it could be a JCreator-related problem, so I tried to manually compile and run the code using the command prompt. No luck. I also tried playing around with Windows's Regional language setting, even installed additional language packs, but nothing worked.
I tried reinstalling JDK and JRE, but the problem persists. I've looked around for answers, but nothing effective came up. I might be missing something really obvious, so excuse my ignorance, but can anyone help me with this?

You should not use non-ASCII characters in source code because it's not portable; compilers in different locales will produce different output. In the Sun "javac" compiler there is command line flag you can use to set the input file encoding, but that likely doesn't help you since you are using an IDE. Perhaps a forum specific to your IDE can provide better help.
The portable way to write the program would be using "unicode escapes," for example you would write "\u00e9 \u00e1 \u00e0 \u00f3 \u00f2 \u00e3 \u00f5 \u00e7" instead of "� � � � � � � �". There is a command line tool to make this conversion automatically, and I suspect some IDEs too have support for this conversion.

Issue with ENEQuery java api and searching terms with accented characters

we are using ENEQuery to query the mdex engine. When search terms contain accented characters (like á,í etc), even though the terms are decoded (using java.net.URLDecoder), the term gets send to dgraph is encoded. for e.g a search for "sofá", from the dgraph logs "sof%c3%a1" and fetch in 0 results

Issue with Deadkey accent

Hi everyone.
I have a weird behaviour in Page. I have US International keyboard. When I want to write something with an accent that is preceded by an apostroph it lose the focus on the page for instance I type:
l'
and then I want to type a é, so I type one more time on ' then e. But when I type the ' it writes '' on my page then the cursor disappear and I have to click back on my page to get it back.
Anyone has an idea ? (It works perfectly fine in any other application)

I can't see my photos opened with CS6 - Help with Nvidia GeForce GT issues?

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite P855-335 laptop running Windows 8 with a Nvidia GeForce GT 640M video card, but I am only able to open my photos when I disable the Graphics Processor from within CS6 Preferences. When the check is active, I see a black screen and the photo is shown only in the Navigator. Is really anoying to have a useles yet powerful video card for my photo editing. My guess is that I am still able to work with my photos because the integrated intel HDGraphics400 video card jumps in when I disable the GPU within photoshop.
What I have done so far:
1.- Updated to the latest driver for my set up. I went to Toshiba website and latest driver was already active. Version 305.46 dated July 2012
2.- I called Nvidia and tried unsuccesfully to install a newer driver (310.90) because is not compatible with my card, they also suggested to install an older driver 304.709 but the operating system just did not want to update to an older driver
3.- I went to Photoshop help and followed instructions and none seemed to work:
3.1. made sure I had latest version of Photoshop CS6 Extended version 13.0.1 x64
3.2.- Set GPU settings to basic
3.3. Reset preferences (Crt+shift+alt) while starting photoshop
3.4. Checked Cache levels to 4
Maybe the biggest and unacceptable issue is that the reported NIvidia cards tested with Photosho CS6 doesnt include the 600 Series. It is quite annoying because all the other series are reported: nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series
any ideas to help?

Unfortunately, it seems that Toahiba has not improved their driver releases. As they repackage the nVidia drivers, a straight nVidia driver will seldom install properly. I had a Toshiba Satellite (biggest, baddest in its day), and it never got a video driver update. No nVidia drivers would install. I found this Web site, and for the five years that I used that laptop, it rewrapped every new nVidia driver, to install on the Toshiba: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers.
Predicated on a similar Toshiba thread, I checked for that old Satellite, and Toshiba had not issued a new one, four years later - so their one driver was about 9 years old at that point.
