Access Denied even though I am an Administrator

Hi there. I tried updating my Adobe and it failed half way through because it didn't have access to the program file (Error 1303). I am the admin account.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried right click -> Properties -> Security on the file to see if I could manually change it to give myself permissions. It tells me "Unable to set new Owner on Reader" and in the Current Owner box it's telling me "Unable to display current
owner."
I work in an office and we deal almost exclusively in .PDFs. I'm on deadline, and I can't access them or create them right now. Please help!!

Copied from Answers:
The error is related to privileges of the user account. The error 1303 occurs if -
The SYSTEM group does not have Full Control privileges or The Everyone group does not have Full Control privileges.
Refer to the Microsoft article for more details. The article is for office setup but you may use the steps for resolution to your issue -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306986
You may try to take the ownership of the folder and then use the steps to grant permission to everyone.
Before taking ownership I would suggest you to create a new restore point so that the system may be reverted back in case of any loss of data or irregular behavior.
Follow the steps in the below link to create a restore point -The System Restore tool uses restore points to return system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the
operating system to a point in time in which you did not experience the problem. To restore back you need to have a restore point available so I would suggest you to create a new restore point before taking ownership of the folder –
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-restore-point
You may take the ownership of the folder and then use the steps to grant permission to everyone–
Locate the file or folder on which you want to take ownership in windows explorer
Right click on file or folder and select “Properties” from Context Menu
Click on Security tab
Click on “Advance”
Now click on Owner tab in Advance Security Settings for User windows
Click on Edit Button and select user from given Change Owner to list if user or group is not in given list then click on other users or groups. Enter name of user/group and click ok.
Now select User/group and click apply and ok. (Check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” if you have files and folder within selected folder)
Click ok when Windows Security Prompt is displayed
Now Owner name must have changed.
Now click Ok to exist from Properties windows
Once you have taken the ownership of file or folder
Grant Permissions to everyone-
Go to C:\Users\ and then click right click on folder "Your user name" and chooseproperties.
Then go to security tab and click Edit then clickAdd =>
Advanced.
If you click on advanced now click on Find Now and chooseEveryone and click
Ok.
Then again click Ok and now click onAllow
=> Full control => Ok.
If the issue persists, I would suggest you to create a new use account with administrator rights and then try to perform the changes and check if the steps work for you -

Since installing the latest version of iTunes all my music files cannot be edited, and I cannot import new music files into iTunes.  The messages says I do not have enough access privileges even though I am the administrator of the system.  If anyone can help me sort this out I would be really grateful.  I have checked the read and write privileges for all the iTunes folders and it all seems in order so I can't understand it.
In general, I am getting really frustrated with Apple.  They seem to be getting ever more controlling in their approach to their consumers.  I need to edit music file information as I am a dj.  And why can't I import music, unless I buy it from iTunes?  Most of all, why can't I use the devices I paid a lot of money for in the way I want to use them, and not be forced to coerced to use apple's fee paying services (iCloud, iTunes).
I have used apple computers since the early 1990's, but in the last year I have gotten rid of my iPhone and my iPad and replaced them with Android devices.  Much better and much less control.  Perhaps it is time to switch from Apple altogether.

  • [solved] "permission denied" even though I am logged in as root

Hi, I just installed Arch and now I am trying to add repositories to pacman.
I am currently logged in as root
    [root@arch ~]#
Now I am trying to access /etc/pacman.conf by typing
    /etc/pacman.conf
    wich returns
    -basch: /etc/pacman.conf: Permission denied
So I checked the forum and the wiki how to check permissions for files. found this wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/File_Permi … ermissions
    so I did
    # cd /etc
    # ls -l
    wich gave me
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2862 Jun 18 06:01 pacman.conf
If I read this correctly it says that "root" can read and write. But I am logged in as "root" so why can I not edit the file?

No problem at all & welcome to arch.
If you had not been so new, I would not of been this kind to you because the first result of a google search of  "basch: /etc/pacman.conf: Permission denied" would have given you the answer you needed
But hey! we all make the same mistake, but be sure to search for the answer before you ask here.
Also, you need to edit the title of your original post to read "[Solved]  "permission denied" even though I am logged in as root"
lecture over ! & again, welcome to arch

  • BI Dashboard - access denied for user to path /users/administrator/_portal/

    Hi,
While I am within OBI EE, I try to access My Dashboards and I get this error message:
" access denied for user to path /users/administrator/_portal/dashboard layout.
    Error Details
    Error Codes: O9XNZMXB "
I have looked in other forums and found a solutions which was to delete cookies and then restart the system whole. It didn´t work at first. After a while, the system would allow me to access My Dashboards but then....
....I wasn´t able to access the shared filters that are on the network, thus impeding my others dashboards to work.
Does anybody know what the correct procedure for having this work is?
    Thanks in advance,
    Javier Rincon

    Hi...
    go to Catalog Manager.
Open and navigate to particular folder (_portal in shared)
right click that and go to permissions.
In left pane are you able to see the presentation Administrator ??
If then, check what kind of permission Administrator has (full control or not), if not.. add Administrator into this pane from right pane (In the right pane, You can see the user by Unchecking the check box present below show groups only check box.)
you didn't tell with whom you logged in?
If administrator then follow the steps i mentioned,
else... same steps but instead of administrator check it for particular user.

  • When I try to save, I keep getting the message "The document could not be saved. You don't have permission" - even though I am the Administrator and the Get Info displays "Administrator and (me)".

When I try to save, I keep getting the message "The document could not be saved. You don't have permission" - even though I am the Administrator and the Get Info displays "Administrator" and my_name(me)". Also, when I do a disk permission repair, it always repairs the same applications and files. Last night, I did a disk permission repair twice and both times it took a long time and did the exact same repair both times.

Disk Utility won't repair your home folder.  Sounds like your home folder permissions are messed up tho.  Try repairing them this way by using Lion Recovery.
    1. Restart Lion, and before you hear the chime, hold down the Command and R keys.
    2. You’ll be at the Repair Utilities screen. Click the Utilities item in the Menu Bar, then click Terminal.
    3. In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.
    4. The password reset utility window launches, but you’re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the dropdown below it, select the user account where you’re having issues.
    5. At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes just a couple of minutes. When it’s done, exit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac.
    Good luck

  • Access denied to a folder; running as Administrator with backup, restore, takeown, and security privileges

I am running as an Administrator with SE_BACKUP_NAME, SE_RESTORE_NAME, SE_TAKE_OWNERSHIP_NAME, and SE_SECURITY_NAME enabled on my application. My group information is listed below. The item's path and ACL are
    C:\tests\test_acl_null\src\1d: O:BGG:SYD:P
where the owner is Built-in Guests, group is Local System, the DACL prevents inheritance, and the DACL itself is empty.
I would expect that since I have the four above privileges enabled successfully, I would have access to the item regardless of its security descriptor. Why is this not the case?

Do backup and restore privileges apply at all over a network mount created via "net use"?
The network mount requires a username and password for the destination machine. Assuming the destination machine is a Windows box with a simple CIFS share, how does this user affect our permissions and access? Do we end up effectively impersonating this
user, or is the access check still done with our sync process's run-as user?
We require that both our configured run-as user for our sync process *and* the credentials passed to the network mount be administrator users of the local system and destination system, respectively, meaning they're in of the "BUILTIN\Administrators,
    S-1-5-32-544" group.
On re-syncs, the destination file will exist and since we don't have the ability to read the ACL in all cases (we're running as one user, the file is owned by another user, and we aren't specified in the ACL in any way), we aren't able to determine if the
file has changed. Is it possible to determine the owner of this file in this case? Preferably, we'd obtain the entire SDDL.
My proposed plan is to interpret access denied as a difference requiring re-sync, resulting in us taking ownership of the file, granting ourselves access, determining if there are data differences, and then re-syncing the metadata as appropriate.

  • Access denied creating new folders/files as administrator, UAC disabled

I'm having some issues with a 2008 R2 server. It's a standalone server used for file storage only, no domains no AD or policies have been applied to it.
I have recently been getting access denied errors trying to create new files or folders on the data drive. I'm logged in as local  administrator and have full access to everything.
I've spent the last 3 days searching for a solution but so far have not found one. Solutions so far have almost always suggested turning off UAC and resetting permissions on the affected files and folders but that has not solved the issue, UAC was already
disabled and I've tried creating a new user group and adding the admin account to it, I've also removed all inherited permissions and manually specified all users and groups and 'everyone' as full access to no avail.
This did happen once before in the past with one network share and I can't remember what I did back then to solve it but somehow I did, but now all files and folders are having the issue on all network shares and drives (the server has 8 hard drives installed).
I can move and rename files and folders fine without problems but I cannot create any new folders or files of any kind without getting access denied, I'm really stumped at this one and hoping someone here will be able to suggest a fix that I haven't already
    tried.
I have scoured the event logs but there's no sign of the issue there either.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you access the network drive from a workstation? If so, what is the system operation on the workstation? Please give everyone group “full control” share permission to check the results. You could try to create a new shared folder and give local administrator
“full control” ntfs permissions and share permissions to check if the issue still exists.

  • EFS: Access denied even with appropriate certificate and permissions

I have imported the certificate from the server computer to the workstation computer several days ago. So far, every morning the workstation computer is unable to access the server encrypted file for a period of about 1 hour (saying "Unable to open
this file. Access denied"). All the folders can be opened, moved and renamed. After persistently attempting to access it and after verifying the thumbprints match between file and certificate it is able to open the file.
There seems to be a delay between logging in to the workstation computer and the effectiveness of the certificate.
I am new to EFS and would love any help you can give me.

    Hi,
Did this issue just occur on these EFS file or all file in the server? What's the result when you attempt to access the other file which is not encrypted.

  • Protected WebResource access granted even though user doesn't have the required role

Apologies in advance - this must be a real newbie question, but I've read thru
alot of documentation/newsgroup info and haven't found the answer.
I'm using WL 7.0 SP1, and deploying an exploded web-app. (contents in attached
    Login.zip). The web.xml defines a single protected web-resource (/yeslogin.jsp)
    and a single role (PortalUser).
I've got a realm configured with all the Default* providers, and have defined
a user, a group, and the PortalUser role that hooks them together.
If I do not check the Security->Realms->myrealm->General->"Ignore security data
in deployment descriptors" checkbox, my user never seems to be associated with
the role I've defined. (I can see this from the output of the DefaultAuditor set
to INFORMATION severity) when access control checks are done - so I always get
    a 403 (Access denied).
If I do check the "Ignore security data in deployment descriptors" box, reboot
WL and re-deploy my web-application then the audit trail does show that my user
is associated with my role, and I am able to run the application.
The problem is, when configured this way if I have another user who does not have
that role, they are also able to use the application. The DefaultAuditRecorder.log
file show that the "Role Manager Audit Event" for checking access to the protected
resource has been invoked, but then the status is SUCCEED!?!?!
Any pointer to what I've done wrong, or the docs that tell me how to do this right
    would be WAY appreciated.
This same web-application works across a range of various J2EE 1.3 compliant web-containers,
but I have not figured out how to configure WL 7.0 to let it work.
    [Login.zip]

I tried your web app and it worked for me. I hit the URL that you protected:
    http://localhost:7001/login/login_page.jsp
Logging in as a bad users popped up your error page.
Logging in as a users in the PortalUser role ( I changed that to a role I
already had) let me hit the
    your login page.
One thing. Usually, you let the users hit your protected page and you let
the web container do the work and pop
up your login form instead of you programmatically sending them to the login
page. If you change web.xml to:
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    <realm-name>myrealm</realm-name>
    </login-config>
It will just pop up the browsers dialog.
Also, don't check the "ignore security data in deployment descriptors". In
your case you ARE using the deployment
    descriptor.
BTW. I can ONLY get web app deployment descriptor security to work in WLS
7.0 sp1 and CAN NOT get the
console web app security policy to work! I have an unanswered post on this.

  • Itunes/Bonjour/Apple Mobile Device won't Install even though I'm the Administrator

Since late February I have been unable to reinstall ITunes.  It all started when I tried to update it, and it wouldn't work.  Ultimately I uninstalled ITunes and tried to reinstall it, but I kept getting this message that the Apple Mobile Device could not be installed(?), and that I have to verify that I have sufficient privileges to install.
    Since then I have:
    Ran as the administrator
Made sure that 'everybody', 'my user' and the 'administrator' (pretty much just me) have full access
Turned the User Account Control off
Cleaned up the registry using CCleaner
Used Command Prompt to check the C drive?
Used the SubInACL tool to repair any file and registry permissions (from here)
Nothing worked.  I also went to the ITunes music folder, made myself the administrator, and it still wouldn't work.  Recently I uninstalled Quicktime, Bonjour, and the Apple Mobile Device, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support....everything Apple.  Still couldn't install Itunes.  In fact, now I can't install Bonjour or AMD.
When I tried to install Bonjour, I got the message:
"Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) could not be installed.  Verify you have sufficient privileges to install system services.".  If I hit 'ignore', then it'll just do the same thing except replace 'Bonjour' with 'Apple Mobile Device'.
    I'm at a lost.

    Hey mrsslick,
This section contains information that might help your situation if you're using Windows XP:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Quit the following programs if they're running:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Choose Start > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open "Add or Remove Programs."
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs and click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, select Yes.
After the uninstallation is complete, don't restart your computer if you're prompted.
If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Add or Remove Programs, remove those as well by repeating steps 4-6.
Remove all instances of these applications by repeating steps 4-6:
    iPod Updater
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Restart your computer.
You should be able to remove Apple Mobile Device Support by following those steps above. The article you came from however is for Windows XP - if you're using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, follow the directions in here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The steps in "Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel" and "To remove these components, follow these steps" are the most pertinent.
Let us know if following that article helped at all.

According to your post, my understanding is that you got access denied error when upgrade the SharePoint hosted app to provider hosted app.
How did you upgrade a SharePoint hosted app to a provider hosted app?
They are two different type apps, why not just create a new provider hosted app?
To create a provider hosted app, we should create a certificate that is used as “security token issuer”.
