Accessing package CONSTANT in a SQL query

Hi,
Can anybody explain why I cannot access the package constant in a SQL but can use it in dbms_output.put_line:
SQL> create package scott.xx_test_const_pkg
2 as
3 a constant varchar2(1) :='A';
4 end;
5 /
Package created.
SQL> begin
2 dbms_output.put_line( scott.xx_test_const_pkg.a);
3 end;
4 /

select * from scott.emp where ename=scott.xx_test_const_pkg.a <------------------THIS DOES NOT WORK

You can't refer to a pl/sql package constant in a sql statement.
Create a function that returns the constant value and then refer to the function in a sql statement.

  • Accessing select result in an SQL query

    I would like to know if anyone has a simple solution to this
    problem.
    I have a database with a table in it called events; the table
    has five fields: event_id, game_type_id, game_venue_id, game_day,
    and game_time.
    I would like to build a form that selects records in the
    table successively, based on the previous input. That is, once the
    user has selected the game_type, I'd like to show the user the
    game_venue for all the entries in the events table where
    game_type_id is equal to what the user selected and allow the user
    to select one. Then once the user has selected the game_type and
    game_venue, I'd like to show the user all the records in events
    that match the user's first two selections. Ditto for game_time. At
    the end of this, a unique record will have been determined.
    Some combinations of game_type, game_venue, game_day and
    game_time don't exist, so I can't just let the user indicate freely
    what they want.
    I suppose I could do it with multiple forms, each with it's
    own submit, but that's kind of clumsy. Is there some more elegant
    way?

    You can't refer to a pl/sql package constant in a sql statement.
    Create a function that returns the constant value and then refer to the function in a sql statement.

  • How to find out which Tables have been accessed without looking at the SQL query ?

    Hi,
    I would like to know is there a way to find out what queries have been executed and on which tables without looking at the SQL query.
    I have an old C++ code which calls some library functions to access the Oracle database. The source code for the library is not available to me yet. The functions selects/updates/deletes and inserts based on some input parameters I give. I do not know which tables it affects. How do I find out the actual SQL query and/or the tables it accesses ? I was told about V$SQL table that
    has the most recently executed queries, but
    I did'nt see any queries connected to my process.
    Could anybody help me on this ?

    PRECISE/SQL can help you if you have access to it
    2nd option can be that turn on SQL_TRACE
    Run executable of ur c++ program
    it will create a trace file in user_dump_dest
    and then using TKPROF u can see all quesries and their plan also.

  • Access APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01 in an SQL query for a report

    APEX 4.0.2.00.07
    I've got a standard report with checkboxes. The SQL is along the lines of:
    SELECT APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(1,empno,'CHECKED') " ",
           ename,
           job
    FROM   empThen I have another report below this, which I want to drive based on the items checked in the first report. I know that the checkbox values will go into the APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01 collection. Normally these are accessed using pl/sql such as:
    FOR I in 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT LOOP
        DELETE FROM emp WHERE empno = to_number(APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01(i));
    END LOOP;But is there any way I can access the collection from the sql for my second report.
    i.e. I want my sql to be something like:
    SELECT empno, day_of_service
    FROM   emp_timesheet
    WHERE emp_no in <get access to the collection here>I was hoping that the check box collection would be available from the APEX_COLLECTIONS view, but it doesn't seem to be there.
    Thanks,
    John

    John,
    If the goal is to hold onto the checked values for some other processing then you could add them to a collection yourself.
    create a process on your page which looks something like this:
    This will create your collection if it does not exist or delete everything currently in it if it does exist and then insert your new selections.
    DECLARE
       l_col_name varchar2(30) := 'EMP_SELECTED';
    BEGIN
        apex_collection.create_or_truncate_collection(l_col_name);
        FOR I in 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT LOOP
            apex_collection.add_member(
                l_col_name,
                to_number(APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01(i))
        END LOOP;
    END;your second query could look something like this:
    SELECT empno, day_of_service
      FROM emp_timesheet
    WHERE empno in (select C001 empno
                       from apex_collections ac
                      where ac.collection_name = 'EMP_SELECTED')
    Edit
    some people choose to create a view ontop of certain collection queries which will be reapeated throughout the application so you could also just
    create view selected_emps as
    select C001 empno
      from apex_collections ac
    where ac.collection_name = 'EMP_SELECTED'   and your new query would look like:
    SELECT empno, day_of_service
      FROM emp_timesheet
    WHERE empno in (select empno
                       from selected_emps)Cheers,

  • Package constants in DBMS_CRYPTO

    Anyone any idea why I can't reference the constants in the DBMS_CRYPTO package.
    I've looked in the package spec and they are there, and if I use the actual value then that works fine, but I can't reference it by name for some reason.

  • Using package constant in SQL

    I am trying to use a package constant in a query as follows:
    SELECT field1 FROM table t WHERE CEIL(sysdate - t.field2) > schema.package.constant
    field1 is a name
    field2 is a timestamp
    constant is an integer indicating the expiration time in days
    basically I am trying to find all expired items.
    I get the error "ORA-06553: PLS-221: 'constant' is not a procedure or is undefined" on this query.
    I use this same query as a cursor in the package itself with no errors.

    Unfortunately you cannot directly use package global variables in select statements like this.
    One workaround is to use bind variables for that:
    <p>
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg
    AS
       myconstant   VARCHAR (20) := 'This is my constant';
    END pkg;
    Package created.
    SQL> VAR myconstant  VARCHAR2 (20)
    SQL> EXEC :myconstant :=  pkg.myconstant
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> SELECT :myconstant
      FROM DUAL
    :MYCONSTANT
    This is my constant

  • Using package constants in package SQL - acts as bind variable or literal?

    I'm looking for confirmation on the performance impact of using package constants in package SQL.
    Let's say I have a number of queries in package code that refer to various literals that are prone to typos e.g. "CANCELLED" instead of "CANCELED". To reduce the chances of this happening, I have an APP_GLOBALS package where I declare constants for each literal:
    C_CANCELED CONSTANT VARCHAR2(12) := 'CANCELED';And in queries that refer to literal 'CANCELED' I use APP_GLOBALS.C_CANCELED instead. This way the typo is caught during compilation. For example:
    BEGIN
    --Do something with all 'Canceled' orders
      FOR r IN (SELECT order_id
                  FROM orders
                 WHERE status = APP_GLOBALS.C_CANCELED)
      LOOP
      END LOOP;
    END;Assume that:
    - the STATUS column is indexed
    - the possible values are PENDING, APPROVED, CANCELED
    - a small percentage of orders are CANCELED
    From the optimizer's perspective is the query equivalent to
    SELECT order_id
      FROM orders
    WHERE status = :varor
    SELECT order_id
      FROM orders
    WHERE status = 'CANCELED'?
    According to what I see in v$sqltext_with_newlines, it's the first one. Can anyone suggest an alternative way of replacing literals in package SQL to prevent typos? Worst case, I suppose I can start with constants so that it compiles successfully then do a global replace of the constants with the literals.

    Can anyone suggest an alternative way of replacing literals in package SQL to prevent typos?I cannot think of any. But, here is the thing. If the typos are there, then, it technically is a bug even though both the codes would compile. The bug will be hunted down when the program doesn't work as intended. Wouldn't most typos be caught in unit testing of the code?
    Also, if you replace a string literal with a variable, then, maybe (just maybe, depending on your version of the dbms), it may end up picking a different execution plan. That might be an unintended consequence.

  • How to execute a SQL  Query in Ms-Access

    Hi,
    I've a query which fetches the data from the tables based on daily transactions.
    I mean, the data gets updated daily basis.
    Now, i want to send the user a Ms-access work sheet with the query written, so that when ever the query is executed, it would fetch the records (with latest updates).
    I found some documents in google to, how to write sql query in ms-access.
    How ever, i'm unable to find the connection setup.
    how do i connect to oracle database using ms-access??
    Can any one please help me regarding this.
    Thanks,
    Santhosh

    You can try this tutorials
    http://www.reo.gov/gis/tools/infobase/LinkAccessToOracle.pdf
    Basically steps include,
    Install and configure Oracle client
    Configure ODBC DSN using correct TNS name configured in first step
    Link the table from Msaccess, make sure you linked the table not import it.

    This query fetch the data without any problem SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS but when i run SELECT EMP_ID FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS it gives me the error i mentioned above. (Column name have No problem or mistake of spelling even CASE)
    also when i try to put where clause in the query it gives me same error SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS WHERE EMP_ID = '100' (Error)
    is there any change in SQL query for ACCESS database ??
    any clue
    Regards
    Rehman

    Are column/table names in access case sensitive? Issue
    DESC TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS If column EMP_ID actual name shows up in mixed/lower case, enclose it in double quotes and use the exact case. E.g., if column name shows up as Emp_Id, use:
    SELECT "Emp_Id" FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESSSY.

    Hi,
    I want to use the SQL query IF EXIST to update or insert data in a ms access table, but it doesn´t work
    (fault number -2147217900)
    I want to search for a value in a ms access table , if it exist i want to update it, if not i want to insert a new row.
    Working with LabView 7.1, database con. toolset.
    Who can HELP?
    Thanks a lot
    Marco

    Hello,
    I think that If exist is not a standar SQL command (I know it exists I think in Oracle and SQL server), MS access doesn't support it, so I think the best way to do it is first make a Select and then either an Update or an insert, sorry...

  • Where is the oracle.xml.sql.query package?

    Hi,
    I have downloaded the xmlparser_v2_0_2_9.zip. I hoped I have everything to compile the example for retrieving XML document with an sql query. However, the jar file is missing the entire package oracle.xml.sql.query which contains for instance the crucial class OracleXMLQuery. Does anyone know where I could get this package - is it part of another download that I have to do, or can I buy it anywhere? Thanks for your help.

    It's part of the XML SQL Utility for Java, avialable for download from http://technet.oracle.com/tech/xml

  • Need a SCCM SQL Query Report for Installed Software with Packages and Applications.

    I need a report that will show the number of installs of all of the workstations applications and packages over a given period of time.
    This will let us know how effective our deployments are and how well the on-demand software is being adopted.
    Any help?

    Your Install Source might be an option as most SCCM deployments will install from C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx [where xx is a random folder name]. Most software vendors will put an install source in the registry, but not all do, so it won't be completely accurate.
    When software is installed manually, the install source path won't be C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx.
    Here is a SQL query I have for Install Source:
    SELECT v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Name0 as 'Computer Name', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductName0 as 'Software Title', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstallSource0 as 'Install Source', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductVersion0 as 'Version', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstalledLocation0
    as 'Installed Location', v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.InstallDate0 as 'Install Date'
    FROM v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM INNER JOIN v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE ON v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID = v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceID
    WHERE v_GS_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ProductName0 like '%Office 365 Pro%'
    ORDER BY v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.Name0

    Odd request, but does anyone have a SQL query to find files? Specifically, I am looking for machines that have access databases on them. .mdb & .accdb

    Have you enabled inventory for them?

  • SQL Query to Access Query

    try to place () on segments of criteria; WHERE (p.SvcDate BETWEEN '03/19/2015' AND '06/17/2015') AND (p.PayCode '37')  AND (e.Active = 'Y')  - not sure will fix

    I have the following Query in Access and as it is, it works. I needed to add a new modifier to the "WHERE" clause of "Payroll.PayCode '37' so that it is not taking that paycode into account. Once I added that modifier, the entire query quit working stating that the query was to complex. I proceeded to struggle with the query for a while and eventually broke down and completely recreated the query in MS SQL where I have it working with the Modifier. Once I moved it to Access 2013 I get the same error that the Query is to complex. Could someone please help me out with this. Here is my SQL Query.SQLSELECT p.EmployeeNumber, e.Fname, e.Lname, e.Address, e.City, e.ST, e.Zip, e.DOH, e.DOT, e.DOB, e.[Mrtl Status],e.jobTitle, e.Dept, ROUND(SUM((p.PayUnit)/13),0) AS [13 Week Avg], eb.Eligible, eb.[Agreement Received], eb.[Benefits Term Date],...
