what is the problem when the screen goes dark and you cant' access the search items, also i find it strange that I can access you tube but can't access internet thru safari??

Couple of things you could try : clearing your Safari cache (Settings > Safari > Clear Cache and also try Clear History). You could also try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Thank you for the reply.
You were correct that deleting the app and reinstalling it was the only thing to make it work but unfortunately I lost all the documents I made, even though they were backed up to iCloud before i deleted the app. At the same time as deleting pages I had to delete keynote and numbers too, so I've lost all the documents in them too.
The mb of data which was assigned to each programme in iCloud has reduced, so. I guess they are gone for good. Is there any other way to reaccess them?
Not your fault but I am a bit fed up the the iPad. I have lost work that I've done and have no other copy apart from what was in iCloud, as I don't have a printer and couldn't email them too myself as I couldn't get into the programme and i've also got episodes of tv series I purchased that I can't download and albums that are half downloaded with songs missing, so I feel a bit swindled out of time and money and am going back to DVD , pen and paper and CDs .
Instead of using iCloud I guess the only way to make sure I don't loose any more documents it to email them to myself each time I save them on the iPad. Is there anything else you could suggest please?
I don't have any other apple products apart from iPods, so I can't access the iCloud on anything else can I?

As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK. Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:". I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf. Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL? And what can I do about the problem? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded. Thanks.

An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do.

Right. If you are using delegated privs and sudo, make sure that sudo is configured to pass on the PERL5LIB and ORACLE_HOME environment variables at least.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? Oh no! I'm sorry to see there's a lot of confusion here and data shared, x-rayDon. We can definitely work to fix. This happens when two devices share the same Apple ID, so she will need to reset hers. She can do so by assessing this link Apple - My Apple ID. You will need to decide who will keep the account if want separate Apple IDs since purchases cannot be shared unless you do Family Sharing.

I found a fix for this, not only firefox but several other networking programs were broken as well (Outlook and IE were ok for some reason) so I reasoned that the Norton uninstall was incomplete somehow - I had done it from the add/remove programs in the control panel. Sure enough that's not enough to release Norton's tentacles in your system, there's an uninstall tool on their website (a whole set of them actually) that managed to carve it out completely and after a restart everything was back to normal. My machines will definitely be Norton-free from now on ... N
