Accomodating Macintosh HD to personal needs

As a new Mac user, I have tried accomodating the HD to my personal needs, and unfortunately, this resulted in loosing all my files (worst of all, all my most recent not-backed-up files). What I did was to place all my files directly in the very left column when first opening the HD, and also, I moved around the Library folder.
My question is now: Is it safe for me to create a new folder in the very left column of the Macintosh HD (for instance, named Andyana's files) and subsequently fill in all my files in the subfolders in its right columns? My only wish is to not loose all my data once again...

Reader is an excellent, and free, option for your recipients who need to fill out your form. It's easily downloaded from www.adobe.com/products/reader.html. You can also use the Fill & Sign service on Acrobat.com to fill any PDF form.
What troubles are your recipients encountering? And those who do have trouble--how are they filling out the form?

What aspects of MM does SD person need to know?

Hi Experts,
Is it common for employers to demand SD person do MM?
If so, what aspects of MM is practically need to know by SD person?
To me, it would be the following, please feel free to add to the list and briefly describe.
1. MMBE check stock qty.
2. configure Availability Check.
3. create material master data
4. Transfer requirements
5. movement type config
6. scheduling
7 ?
I am trying to know SD -related aspects a SD person should know to be able to support a bit of MM.

I think it's more important to know the movement types and what they mean in an inventory process, than to actually configure new movements. I've worked with the system for 18 years - and have never had occasion to create a new movement type.
The availability check is really SD. This is (at least was) covered in the certification academy. This is i certainly important - because the SAP delivered settings don't make sense in most cases.
Anything you learn about MM will be useful. I would focus more on:
1. Basics of inventory management
2. Purchase requisitions/purchase orders for stock
Next would be some general logistics subjects:
3. Batch management basics
4. Serial numbers

HT3462 does the person need to have an iphone in order for me to communicate with them?

You can use SMS if the person is in thre United States and uses the "right" carrier.
Up to at least iChat 5 (Snow Leopard) the Computer could be set as if is were in the United States and the SMS options would show in the File Menu and Buddies menu of iChat.
This is set in System Preferences > Language and Text (in the Personal row before you get to the Security and Privacy/Firewall one)
The phone number could then be added as if it were a Buddy to the Buddy list with a leading + 1 as in +1234567890.
That phone has to be in the United States on one of these Carriers
By the time Messages comes along in Mountain Lion the SMS menu items disappear even though the app can still send SMS to AIM "phone Buddies"
I am not sure about OS X 10.7.x and iChat 6.x as I don't have a computer that can run that version at the moment (well I do but it is running Mountain Lion)

Consulting/training person needed in Europe

I work for a company in Europe. We implemented an application using Oracle RDF but we have troubles running it in production. As it turned out the RDF engine is a black box to us and we see too many "surprises".
It is virtually impossible to find consultant who can help us in Europe, so I decided to try the forum as last desperate measure before rewriting our application without Oracle RDF.
I am looking for a person who can join us in Vienna for a week, train our DBAs and review our RDF usage/implementation

The things that are currently problem for us:
- running out of temp space
- when running a query, the server seems to "hang" for many hours, while it is actually running the query in the background, even if the client disconnects.
- Ora-30052: invalid lower limit snapshot expression
But let me emphasize that the big problem for us is lack of understanding what and how is happening, not these particular technical issues. We can and will resolve them with a service request.

Overlapping symbols - advice from a clever person needed!

Hello clever Edge people!
I have a map I have developed in Edge.
When veiwed (check out the attached jpeg: map1) the user can hover over the roads highlighted to reveal distances and travel times between to points etc. This all works fine.
The user can also use the magnify symbol to enlarge that part of the map. A close up version of the map (a new symbol ) appears on click of the magnify symbol. This too works fine. See the attached jpeg: map 3.
My problem!
I have the close up map as a symbol as the top layer (so it appears above the roads etc). But because it is on top, even when that insert map is not visible (ie. maginify symbol has not been clicked) the FRAME of that map means that the interactive layers beneath (ie. the roads) can not be accessed because the frame is in the way as the top layer. See attached jpeg: map2. You can see the frame of the close up map. In the broswer, I can not access anything under that frame.
I hope I have explained this okay. And I really hope there is someone more clever than me who can help me out!

Hi Tim, thanks for getting back to me!
I tried adding an "off" keyframe to the symbol "MAP_ZOOM" and then an "on" keyframe straight after but unfortunately as the timeline plays, the MAP_ZOOM frame appears at the "on" point on the timeline and again everything under that frame is no longer clickable.
Hmmmm...
I guess what I need is "MAP_ZOOM" to be completely "off" UNTIL the magnifying glass is hovered/clicked and then "MAP_ZOOM" is on (but only then!).
I have tried to work this out for a few hours but just can't seem to work out (steep learning curve for me!). I tried adding a "get symbol" to the magnifying glass "on click"
var mySymbolObject = sym.getSymbol("MAP_ZOOM");
but that didn't work...
I am confused and hoping someone can help me out! Tim, are you out there???

Workgroup network printers and sales persons needing access to them

I have a site with multiple sales people that come and go like the wind (about 50). We have a small office workgroup in which we have 4 network printers on
it plus the wireless network. All of their work is done on the internet through their various Windows and Mac based laptops.
The problem is, is that each time we retire a printer and put in a new one, we need to run around to each laptop and load drivers. Scheduling this is a nightmare
and sometimes takes weeks to get everyone done.
There must be an easier way to do this.
Any suggestions?

There are two basic ways to make a printer available to the computers on your small network:
Attach it directly to one computer and share it with all the others on a network.
Connect the printer as a stand-alone device on the network itself.
We could follow the suggestions by rj01, install the printer on one special workstation and then share it out, or we could enable homegroup in Windows. When a network is set up as a homegroup, printers and certain files are automatically shared. To

New person needs help setting up jdk

I am finding it impossible to extract the WinRAR zipped src.dir files. I have searched the internet and can't find any logical/simple to follow directions. I feel like a real idiot posting this here but I see no viable alternative. Please help. Once I learn I will be happy to give back to the community.

Ibook G4 airport extreme wont connect to WPA2 personal need help

ok so I just reformatted my brother I-book G4 and started with a clean slate, 10.3.9 OSX I am trying to connect the airport extreme that is in the computer to the linksys network I have set up. I have a Imac with an intel processor and a powerbook g4 titainium the Imac is using the internal wireless that it came with and the powerbook is using a linksys wireless card through the slot on the side.
I am using WPA2 personal on the network and both of these computers connect just fine through the password. the I book will not allow me to even bring up WPA2 personal as an option. it recognizes the network and I can click it but will not except the password because the only option is WEP of different types. how do I get around this and get it on the network?
I bought a external USB wireless card for it but it wont even recognize that either.
also the computer will not boot up with the airport card taken out of the computer which I found very odd. what is up with that?

3. Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
4. Choose WPA/WPA2 Personal from the Wireless Security pop-up menu if you want computers compatible with WPA and WPA2 to join your network. Choose WPA2 Personal if you want only computers compatible with WPA2 to join your network.
5. Enter an ASCII password of 8 to 63 ASCII characters.

Just have them download and install it. If you are talking about a licensed version then you should probably deactivate your copy before leaving as well (open the program and choose Help -> Deactivate)

I Notified BT about a fault with my Broadband on 23rd July. I had been having extremely slow speeds with my wireless connection which was particularly bad in the evenings. The issue of slow speeds started about 7-10 days before that. I have spent hours on the phone waiting for my calls to be answered by different people in call centres in India. The longest wait I had for someone to answer my calls was 45 minutes. At times I would be cut off without speaking to anyone after 20/25 minutes leaving me to start all over again. I have spent countless hours on hold in the last 3-4 weeks. Every time they want to run the same tests on my line that have already been done. I was told on 6 separate occasions that someone from level 2 technical support would call me back at specific times which never happened.
An engineer was sent out eventually after I insisted on 6th August. He identified that he thought we are too far away from the cabinet (1200 metres). He boosted the line and it was working better in the mornings and at non peak times only to disappear almost completely in the evenings and other peak times. The speed coming into the house is never faster than 7-8MG and at times can be as slow as 0.16MG. Even when the signal to the house is 7-8 the wireless doesn't give anything like that. I have done the speed tests with an ethernet cable and it also shows slow speeds. I have used 4 different speed tests and they all show huge variabilility from one hour to the next. We have no other connections in the house and nothing near the hub that can be interfering with the hub. We even had a new hub sent -still doesn't give a stable signal.
Again I spent hours talking to people who wouldn't listen and insisted on running the same useless tests over and over and
telling me my line was working! Yes my line is working but I am not getting a stable broadband signal.
Eventually after a fight I was allowed to talk to someone senior, again in India. His answer is BT can't give me a BT infinity connection because we are too far away from the box. His answer is I need to be downgraded to standard Broadband but this means being disconnected from the Internet for up to 5 days. This is outrageous as none of this is my fault, this is BT's issue and we need the Internet for work purposes.
I spoke to another person at BT India 4 days ago and was told that moving to BT's normal broadband wouldn't help and wouldn't guarantee me a stable signal. This particular phone call took 2 hours in total as I was transferred to 3 different people. The final person made me do the same tests AGAIN and reset the modem and the hub AGAIN and said it would be escalated to a higher level AGAIN. I was suppposed to get a call back within 48 hours advising me of what the new moniroting of my line had shown. Guess what no phone call and still a uselessly slow internet connection.
I have a number of issues with this whole sorry saga.
1) Despite repeated requests to do so I was told I couldn't talk to anyone in the UK. The clue is in the name.
You are British Telecom.
2) It can take up to 45 minutes to get through to your call centres and frequently the calls are cut off after 20/25 minutes and the whole process has to start again.
3) No one ever calls back when they say they will.
4) One of the people I spoke too said I could cancel my account if I wasn't happy. That's a really good way to treat your paying customers.
5) I have paid for superfast Broadband for the last month but have speeds similar to dial up.
6) I get regular e-mails from Mr Buckley who if he is a real person needs to do something about how totally useless his service in BT India is.
7) I have complained through the 'contact us' button on the website and the people responding to those e-mails don't even bother to read the complain properly and reply obviously from a script they have been given
I have been a loyal BT customer for nearly 30 years but this experience has left me extremely unhappy and I feel very badly let down. I intend to discuss this with Ofcom and as soon as I can sort out an alternative I will be taking my landline and my broadband elsewhere.

I need help trying to install 8.1.2 from 8.1.1? And update is for 8.1.2 only.Help please.

Hello I hope some one will know what to do to help me out here!!! I have read most of the Post about 8.1.1 to try and download and upgrade to 8.1.2 and most of the ?'s don't have the answers the person needs to fix adobe on their computer befor they go MAD!!I have windows XP Home SP2 and all the other hi tech items on my computer. I got the update from adobe Automaticlly to download 8.1.2 and it went ok and I was using it when needed. But something else happened to my computer and I had to do a restore back a few days. And then I noticed I had adobe 8.1.1 and not the newer 8.1.2 that was just installed a few days befor. So I downloaded 8.1.2 manualy and adobe web page downloaded like 32Mbs of data. Then at the end of the download it said it could not install it.! And the end page that opened up did not have very much infomation to go on to fix the problem.? I hope some one can unsderstand what I'm saying? I can never get a hold of anyone at adobe to help. You can't find a email to tech support anywhere here? SO I don't dare uninstalling 8.1.1 and then go and try to download the new 8.1.2, because I read alot of people could not install 8.1.2 at all from the adobe reader 8.1.2 download page! Help

Upgrading from iPhoto 8 to iPhoto 9 requires a purchase. There are two ways to get to iPhoto 9:
1 - purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.
2 - if your MBP meets the requirements upgrade you system for free to Mavericks. Then you can purchase the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1, from the App Store.

Can't repair Macintosh HD in Disk Utility (extended attributes)

Hi all,
I have a Retina Macbook Pro with one of them new fancy SSDs in it. I'm running 10.9.3 all up-to-date and am a bit computer-savvy, but I'm more than puzzled by what my Mac has been doing as of late.
When trying to install Windows via Bootcamp, I ran into an error message in the Partitioning step of the process. I hopped into Disk Utility, figuring I could simply partition from there (something in me trusts Disk Utility more than the Boot Camp Assistant). Partition failed!
I then executed the "Verify Disk" command in Disk Utility, only to be told I needed to restart from the Recovery Partition and use the "Repair Disk" function of Disk Utility then. Log of this whole event is at the end of this post, but the offending line seems to be

I'm having a similar problem with my G4 Desktop.
I have a 2nd internal hard drive and 2 FW Drives.
None of them are able to be verified or repaired using DU.
I get the following message: "Verify volume failed with error Could not unmount disk." And then some message about "make sure that all your files are closed."
I tried soft-booting by holding the shift-key down just as a trouble-shooting idea and I was able to verify and the drives were working well. However, when I restarted in normal mode I was not able to verify or repair.
What is my G4's problem? Why does it need to use that secondary drive in order to operate? What do I need to do to fix it?
Any suggestions?

Need to display a Disclaimer on the request CUP request form

As part of the organizational Request, I need to include a disclaimer on the AE request form, the person needs to agree or disagree to the disclaimer during submission/approval.
I tried doing it in multiple ways but was not able to succeed with the requirement:
Approach 1: Custom field "DROP DOWN" text made it mandatory field to select the either the user agrees to the disclaimer or not. The issue with it is the disclaimer is about 200 characters and the field restriction on the custom field is 40 characters. Does not work as I intended to.
Approach 2: Custom Field "Text" made the field as default and provided the default 200 character sentences into the text field. Though I provided the default value it does not show up in the text box and comes up blank, does not solve the requirement.
Optimal approach : If could do a disclaimer on the request form with a check box and force the user/approver to check the box would solve the purpose.
Do anyone of you can suggest or show a way where either I can increase the drop down text size from 40 to 200 characters or display the disclaimer with a check box or probably I can then use the drop down list as "Agree" vs. "Disagree"? Will be helpful.
I have also need to make a validation that states not to approve/provision the access if the disclaimer is set to 'disagree"
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As an update to my earlier question. SAP came back asking me to log this an an enhancement for future releases using SAP note 1575897 . I have logged it with them and hopefully we will see an solution in hot packs/Next releases.
As a current solution, We have placed a disclaimer text on the Portal Landing page and have marked with a "Accept" or "Decline" push buttons. The push buttons stores the user identity, date and Time stamp in a custom table for validating purpose and while the accept button launches the GRC CUP application.
The above was created as a prototype and not currently in use untill signed off from the concerned department head & Global policy head asking for this information.
