ACE Compression Query
HI,
i have one query what the difference between compress default-method ( deflate / gzip ), and if you can give an example when we can use deflate or gzip?
Thanks
Hi,
GZip is just a wrapped set of headers around deflate.
Deflate includes a few small headers such as any initial data that will get better compression always, the compression rate (none/normal/best), etc. Deflate also includes an Adler32 checksum at the end.
GZip adds some additional headers to the start (algorithm always deflate anyway), file name etc and a CRC32 checksum to the end. This means that deflate will always be slightly faster (less to initialise, no CRC32 checksum) and save you a few bytes (no GZip headers) just the deflate headers that are inside the GZip headers for GZip compression anyway).
Now you need to see what is client coming with in "ACCEPT-ENCODING". If client comes with both GZIP/DEFLATE then ACE uses the configured method. Example below from TS guide.
policy-map type loadbalance first-match L7_COMP_SLB_POLICY
class L7default-compression-exclusion-mime-type_CLASS
serverfarm SFARM1
class class-default
serverfarm SFARM1
compress default-method deflate policy-map type loadbalance first-match L7_COMP_SLB_POLICY
class L7default-compression-exclusion-mime-type_CLASS
serverfarm SFARM1
class class-default
serverfarm SFARM1
compress default-method deflate --------------->Configured method
Both methods are supported and good and generally "Deflate" is considered to be better because of less overhead and as a result less bytes. I don't have examples when to use which.

Kanwal

I have a ACE 4710 which I have enabled compression on the L7 policy map using compress default-method gzip. We have recently run a performance test and I have noticed many compression errors on the show service-policy detail output. However I cannot find details as to what these errors are or cause in any manual.
The comprssion specific stats from show service-policy detail are:
compression:
bytes_in : 14449218178 bytes_out : 6622221458
Compression ratio : 54.16%
Gzip: 2308157 Deflate: 0
compression errors:
User-Agent : 0 Accept-Encoding : 0
Content size: 1244 Content type : 160821
Not HTTP 1.1: 39 HTTP response error: 1935746
Others : 0
If I am reading this correctly 90% of compression hits where in error?
Can anyone point me at the correct documentation to find out what is going on?
ThanksIs it possible the HTTP Response errors are due to HTTP 304 responses?

Hey,
I'm interested in giving the ACE exam for Photoshop CS4 but I don't know how should I prepare.I already have the Exam guide and it only has few sample questions. Please some one suggest me any book or blog or anything which can be helpful in the preparation.I also wanted to ask, till when the exam will be available ?
Thanks.One need the knowledge of
using the application and the theoretical knowledge of the application
as well. I don't remember having to answer questions based on theoretical knowledge of the application (perhaps you mean something else?).
Many questions I had on Ps Ace exams were about keyboard
shortcuts, positions of certain elements within Ps interface etc.
I think an "expert" should know keyboard shortcuts and how to assign them as well. Likewise, knowing where commands are located is essential. As I said, most people find commands intuitively or use KBSCs so much that they forget where commands are located.
On
the last exam for CS5 I had loads of photography questions that
required the knowledge of Photography not Photoshop so without
experience in photography I wouldn't know the answers.
There was a time when you could get by without knowing anything about photography but since the advent of digital photography and the addition of Camera Raw and features such as Photomerge and Merge To HDR, you need to know something about how to originate files in order to process images, make the best panoramas and HDR images.
One can look at the Ace Exam Preps that can be found online, they may help as well.
One can but you will need the ability to desipher the topics and time to find appropriate pages in Help. For example, how many people will know what's meant by the following:
• Given a scenario, use Refine Edge/Mask to capture increased detail both soft and hard edges.
Above is the very first topic in the recertification Prep Guide for Photoshop CS5 ...If you get stuck at the first topic... -
Reading ACE file format?
Anyone know of open-source or commercial Java source code or libraries to read ACE-format files? (http://www.winace.com/). They do have a freely available DLL that'll read them... but that means integrating. Hmm.
Thoughts? Thanks,

Well 'ol boy it looks as if you are in for a spot of JNI. Perhaps one could find a library to read ACE format files but that site declares that their files are in a proprietary format that is not compatible with the ACE format.
"Please note:Although the compression used in both ACE Compressions Libraries offers the same performance regarding compression speed and ratio as the retail version of WinAce, the archive format used in these two Libraries is not fully compatible with the standard ACE format. "
So tally-ho and off to native methods. Good luck chap. -
Drawbacks of Infocube compression
Hi Experts,
is there any drawbacks of infocube compression??
Thanks
DVHi DV
During the upload of data, a full request will always be inserted into the F-fact table. Each request gets
its own request ID and partition (DB dependent), which is contained in the 'package' dimension. This
feature enables you, for example, to delete a request from the F-fact table after the upload. However,
this may result in several entries in the fact table with the same values for all characteristics except the
Best Practice: Periodic Jobs and Tasks in SAP BW
request ID. This will increase the size of the fact table and number of partitions (DB dependent)
unnecessarily and consequently decrease the performance of your queries. During compression,
these records are summarized to one entry with the request ID '0'.
Once the data has been
compressed, some functions are no longer available for this data (for example, it is not possible to
delete the data for a specific request ID).
Transactional InfoCubes in a BPS environment
You should compress your InfoCubes regularly, especially the transactional InfoCubes.
During compression, query has an impact if it hits its respective aggregate. As every time you finish compressing the aggregates are re-built.
With non-cumulative InfoCubes, compression has an additional effect on query performance. Also, the marker for non-cumulatives in non-cumulative InfoCubes is updated. This means that, on the whole, less data is read for a non-cumulative query, and the reply time is therefore reduced.
"If you are using an Oracle database as your BW database, you can also carry out a report using the relevant InfoCube in reporting while the compression is running. With other manufacturers databases, you will see a warning if you try to execute a query on an InfoCube while the compression is running. In this case you can execute the query once the compression has finished executing."
Hope this may help you

Compression decreasing the freespace
When i compress a table in oracle using (ALTER TABLE Table_Name MOVE PARTITION Partition_Name TABLESPACE table_space COMPRESS) query.
When we compress a table, freespace should be increase...ya for some table freespace is increasing...
For some table freespace is decreasing.
instead of increase in freespace, compression decreasing the freespace.
Why freespace is decreased for compressing some table ?What is the reason?new information
we able to find out that the parmaters ~ITSMOBILEELEMUNITS and ~ITSMOBILE1UNITWIDTH have no effect when entered in the SE80 screen for th service. we entered them into the SICF secion and the parameters were taking affect. this is good
. we are having another issue. the parameters are working for the LM01 screen. when we click on a button that takes us to another program like LM05, LM61 or LM 64, the screen is back to the original size. the parameters that we entered in SICF section are not being applied to the new transactions.
we are still looking at this but any help would be appreciated

Problem With httpd.conf and mod_rewrite rules Apache 2.2
I have some RewriteRules that are working on my Leopard Client Apache 2.2 machine - but when I try to implement them on Leopard Server Apache 2.2, they don't work. I don't get any errors, they just won't execute.

#### Default httpd.conf for Mac OS X Server, Apache 2.2
#### This httpd.conf differs from the httpd.conf distributed
#### with Apache and the httpd.conf present on Mac OS X.
#### Feel free to edit this; the Server Admin app also edits this file but will
#### respect your changes unless noted below. See also ReadMe.txt.
## ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
## configuration, error, and log files are kept.
## NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
## mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
## (available at <URL:<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
## you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
## Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
ServerRoot "/usr"
## PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
## identification number when it starts.
PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid
## ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
## Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
## this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
## no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
#ScoreBoardFile "/var/run/apache2runtimestatus"
## Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
## server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
## sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
## handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
## load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
## Netscape browser).
## It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
## for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
## a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
## spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
MinSpareServers 1
MaxSpareServers 1
## Number of servers to start initially --- should be a reasonable ballpark
## figure.
StartServers 1
## MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
## allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
## as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
## libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
## isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
## in the libraries. For these platforms, set to something like 10000
## or so; a setting of 0 means unlimited.
## NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
## request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
## an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
## would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
MaxRequestsPerChild 100000
## Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
## To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
## have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
## directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
## Please read the file http://httpd.apache.org/docs/dso.html for more
## details about the DSO mechanism and run `httpd -l' for the list of already
## built-in (statically linked and thus always available) modules in your httpd
## binary.
## Note: The order in which modules are loaded is important. Don't change
## the order below without expert advice.
## Example:
## LoadModule foo_module libexec/mod_foo.so

# Settings for hosting different languages.
# Required modules: mod_mime, mod_negotiation
# DefaultLanguage and AddLanguage allows you to specify the language of
# a document. You can then use content negotiation to give a browser a
# file in a language the user can understand.
# Specify a default language. This means that all data
# going out without a specific language tag (see below) will
# be marked with this one. You probably do NOT want to set
# this unless you are sure it is correct for all cases.
# * It is generally better to not mark a page as
# * being a certain language than marking it with the wrong
# * language!
# DefaultLanguage nl
# Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
# keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
# language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
# avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
# Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in some cases
# the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not identical to
# the two character 'Country' code for its country,
# E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.
# Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char
# specifier. There is 'work in progress' to fix this and get
# the reference data for rfc1766 cleaned up.
# Catalan (ca) - Croatian (hr) - Czech (cs) - Danish (da) - Dutch (nl)

========HTTPD.CONF==========I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.

My requirement is we need to show summary of the result rows in front of WAD report output. Is it possible by any means please let me know.
amitour requirement is top management should get summary report like this e.g
WAD output as of now we have.
> costing report (Heading of the report) (compress)
> Query result (at the top or at the bottom)
I need Query result should appear at top level before clicking on heading costing report.
Please let me know if anything required above.

Optimizing Speed - Sheet/Table Configurations
Hi All -- I have a document that gets quite slow to work in, and I'm trying to figure out if I can speed it up through a redesign.
Here's a pic, with original layout on the left, and that of a possible redesign on the right:
In the left document, the 'Log' table contains a year's worth of financial entries -- can end up being nearly 1000 rows.
In the right document, the annual log is broken up into twelve monthly tables.
In both documents, the 'Cashflow' tables contained in each year's sheet contains formulas that look into the log(s) and sum up the totals for each financial account and category.
I had it in my head that breaking the annual log up into twelve monthly logs might speed things up, but I'm really not sure, so I wanted to request some feedback from the group.
If this will not be an improvement, or, if it will be an improvement but not a significant one, I am wondering whether I should consider putting the Cashflows tables in a separate document (in which case I assume the formulas would only be updated when I open that document, rather than each time I make an entry in one of the logs)? Or, perhaps I should consider populating the Cashflows tables via AppleScript? (it is suggested here --- https://discussions.apple.com/message/24904471#24904471 -- that "The Summary table is refreshed only when needed. With large tables on multiple sheets, Numbers can be become sluggish with lots of formulas constantly updating."
Thanks very much.i think i didnt make myself clear.
I am copying this table in development...
As there are ongoing work... i decided to duplicate a table...
The real problem i am trying to solve....
TableA ==> 2billion record with compression query high on.
When i tried to add 2 column with default value '0', it hit with insufficient undo tablespace issue....
Of course... the easiest way is to have more tablespace allocated to us... but DBA not willing to set tablespace to unlimited nor increase the size.
The only way to try to solve this problem is to add the 2 column without the default value.
And for the values , need to loop parition by partition....
anyway... i figured out the fastest way...
1)CTAS with all the parition / compression query high / parallel on..... ==>Data duplicated with parition..
2)Rebuild unique index
3)Create PK using index -
I've configured query vlan FT internface as follow:

and when I do "sh ft peer sum" I see following:
sh ft peer sum

FT Vlan IF State : UP

Peer Query IP Addr : 192.30.3.196
Heartbeat Interval : 300
Heartbeat Count : 10
SRG Compatibility : COMPATIBLE

FT Groups : 5
would you please advise why "Query Vlan IF State " is showing "Manual validation - please ping peer" do I need to configure anything else?
Thanks....You don't need to configure anything further. Your config looks good.
The query interface thing can be a bit misleading. The ACE does not use the query interface until the FT vlan goes down. This is the reason why we added a etxt to request users to manually verify query interface is functioning properly as below :
"Manual validation - please ping peer"
So if you need to check if the query vlan is up, then manually ping the peer ip address. That's what the message means.

Hello,
I would like to ask you about advice.
We have MSSQL 2008 R2, 32 bit. Memory is 4GB, split into 2GB for Windows and 2GB for applications. Database has recovery model simple because we have replicated data into other servers ( 2 ). Contemporary we work with 2 servers. Max memory for MSSQL is 2048
MB.
We set the backup as follows:
USE MSDB
GO
DECLARE @JMENO_ZALOHY VARCHAR(120)
SELECT @JMENO_ZALOHY = 'E:\backup\BackupSQL\1 Pondeli\DAVOSAM_'+ convert( varchar(2), datepart( hh, getdate() ) ) + '00_DEN_DIFF.bak'
SELECT @JMENO_ZALOHY
BACKUP DATABASE [DAVOSAM]
TO DISK = @JMENO_ZALOHY
WITH INIT, DIFFERENTIAL, CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION
GO
Every second or third day in log there is error message: 'There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query' Accurate in time of backup. The error is still repeat, majority in working hours.
Today I have found out, that problem is probably in compression of backup. Because if I removed word: compression, a backup normally runs without error.
Question: Is my hypothesis correct that problem is in backup with compression?
Thank you DavidHello, today evening I have ran backup command bellow. All is OK. Probably MSSQL has cleaned memory. Next attempt I will try in peak next week.
Since time I have removed word compression, in error log is not any error.
I have checked memory as soon as memory gets on top, it is about 1.707 GB the MSSQL writes into log this messgages:

ACE issue with compression when SSL Initiation is turned on?
We currently doing an evaluation of the Cisco ACE 4710 and have some sites where the backend is Tomcat and SSL is turned on. When we set Default L7 Load-Balancing Action to Load Balance with Compression Method Deflate (I haven't tried gzip yet), requests to these sites return badly mangled stuff. Like a gif image at 7,700 bytes comes back as a 7 bytes file, even default should only try compression on text/*.
Has anyone seen a similar issue? It turned out the problem was a configuration issue and my understanding of the ACE works with compression, policies, etc.
In conjunction with this I seemed to have found a bug in the GUI, which is also still present in A3 (2.3). I now have a default L7 policy which just set SSL Initiation to ssl client. Added another L7 policy but when looking at the virtual server afterwards the GUI doesn't show that policy.
switch/Development# show running-config policy-map FORD-APP.PERF.AUTC.COM-l7slb

Characteristic "XYZ" is compressed but is not in the aggregate/query
Hi there,
we have build couple of aggregates and receive the following message in debugging mode:
e.g." ____Characteristic 0VALUATION is compressed but is not in the aggregate/query"
Does this mean, we have to include the characteristic into the aggregate or does it mean, it is in but is not compressed ?Hi
Is this warning message or error message?
It seems warning message. It just saying but in aggregates or on query. You can ignore it.

ACE - Query VLAN Interfaces Status
Hi,
I am wondering what the status of the query vlan interface means in the command 'show ft peer detail':
Query Vlan IF State : UP, Manual validation - please ping peer
I am pretty sure that I did not see this status when I configured query vlan last time. Current version is A2(2.3).
Unfortunately this status does not seem to be documented anywhere on CCO.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks,
DanielHi Daniel,
The FT Query VLAN interface is an optional, yet very good, feature to be used when using redundant ACE modules or appliances. Without it, if the FT VLAN was to go down, the standby ACE will no longer receive FT heartbeats from the active ACE and therefore take the active role. However, if the active ACE is still running fine in the active role, then you don't want the standby ACE to take over as active because that will put them into an active/active scenario, which may lead to connectivity issues.
This is where the FT Query VLAN interface comes in. If the FT VLAN goes down, the standby ACE will notice this, but before taking the active role, it will ping it's peer IP address configured on the interface that is designated as the FT Query VLAN. If the ping is successful, then it will stay in the standby role, thereby saving you some headaches.
The status that you are seeing is the ACE's way of telling you that the interface is UP, but if you want to know if it can successfully ping the peer IP address, then you would have to manually ping the peer IP address from the CLI. The ACE does not periodically check the ping connectivity through any automatic mechanism. The automatic mechanism is only triggered by the FT VLAN going down.
Does this help?

ACE Appliance HTTP Probe with "POST" query
Does the ACE support HTTP Probe with a "POST" query?
Thanks
JoeHi Joe,
The ACE only supports GET and HEAD
Here is the documentation related to this:
