ACE serverfarm total connections failures

I have many server farms in various contexts and every single serverfarm shows something like this:
NDCD23ACERT1/Internal-1295# sh serverfarm FINPROD88_80 detail
serverfarm : FINPROD88_80, type: HOST
total rservers : 3
description : -
predictor : ROUNDROBIN
failaction : purge
total conn-dropcount : 0
----------connections-----------
real weight state current total
---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+--------------------
rserver: FINPRODAPP5
10.1.129.39:8320 2 OUTOFSERVICE 2 138
total conn-failures : 348
rserver: FINPRODAW1
10.1.129.29:8320 1 OPERATIONAL 25 179
total conn-failures : 418
rserver: FINPRODAW2
10.1.129.30:8320 1 OPERATIONAL 8 165
total conn-failures : 456
The conn-failures counter keeps growning on all of the farms. What exactly could be the problem? People aren't complaining but it bothers me to see those counters grow.
Casey

total conn-failures counter can increment due to several reasons
1. When Server sends RST to close the connection
2. When Client Sends an invalid HTTP request
3. If "persistence-rebalance" & "layer 7 class map" is configured and ACE doesnt find a L7 condition in client request.
So increments in the counter doesnt always means that there is a server problem :)
There are bugs reported for all the above conditions.I am not sure if they are fixed in the latest release.
Hope it helps

  • ACE showing many connection failures on server farm

I just upgraded my ACE blade from A2(1.0 to A2(1.5a). After the upgrade I'm seeing an enormous amount of connection failures when I run the command show server xxx. Everything appears to be running fine. I can get to the web servers. I found an old posting and they reference Bug CSCsh1478, but when I looked at this bug the problem was corrected in version A2(1.0). Any ideas of what's going on?
    Thanks
    Mike

you will need to take a sniffer trace to see if there are any un-answered SYN or RST from the server.

  • ACE : Rserver connection failures ?

    Hi,
In a productive environment, I observe rserver counters and I can read several connection failures. However, the site seems to work correctly.
What are the conditions under which he ACE increments the connection failures counter ?
Here is an extract of the show serverfarm command :

    Yves,
normally only RST from the rserver or no response to SYN from the rserver are counted as failure.
However, we had issues with this as identified in  CSCtd22008 "ACE- Client RST in End-to-End SSL generates Rserver conn-failures."
An old one is CSCsh14278 "sh serverfarm failure conn incremented for successful connection".
So, if you want to be sure, the only option is to capture a sniffer trace.
    Gilles.

  • ACE Total Connections Failed stats

I have been monitoring connection stats on an ACE Module context (show stats connection).
During recent load testing I observer that about 1/3 of all connections were failing and some timing out.
How can I find out more details about the connections that are failing and timing out?
ie which specific connection are failing, what type of failures increment this counter, etc
    Cheers,
    Karl

    Hi Kim,
    Thanks for responding.
A load test was run earlier today. I cleared the counters and collected some stats (see below).
I also had a look at various other stats for drops.
As far as I could see all relevant, rservers, serverfarms and service-policies were:
    in service BUT
drop stats were not incrementing at anywhere near the same rate as the Total Connections Failed stat.
Another load test is scheduled for tomorrow.
Any thoughts on what to check next?

  • ACE serverfarm connection stats

    Hi Guy's,
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what appears to be a discrepancy in the loadbalanced stats that are produced from a show serverfarm and the stats that my server team report for each loadbalanced server.
    For example:
    ACE/context1# show serverfarm LIVE
    serverfarm     : LIVE, type: HOST
    total rservers : 4
                                                    ----------connections-----------
real                  weight state        current    total      failures
       ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------
       rserver:Server1
           10.10.10.1:0         8      OPERATIONAL  1077       23099      2123
       rserver: Server2
           10.10.10.2:0         8      OPERATIONAL   1099      23533      1830
But the server team report Server1 has 615 and Server2 has 563 active sessions.  I would have thought that both loadbalancer and server statistics on current and active sessions should be the same?

    Hi paul,
If you take output for sh conn rserver server1 detail
You will notice that many connection on ACE is in different state. It would not show established.
It may be in CLS-RST or CLOSE state. This happens when the connection are improperly closed.
    something like below:
    1  in  TCP   101  10.12.18.20:80       10.87.3.184:34484     CLOSED
You will also notice many idle connection waiting for timeout to happen.
This might be one of the reason for the descripancy.
Below is the different port state for your reference:
state:    The state of the connection. Non-TCP connections display "--"
    Possible TCP states are:
INIT -       Initial state of a connection.
SYNSEEN -    ACE received a SYN.
SYNACK -     ACE sent a SYNACK.
ESTAB -      3-way handshake completed and connection is established.
CLSFIN -     ACE closed the connection with a FIN.
CLSRST -     ACE closed the connection with a RST.
CLSTIMEOUT - ACE closed the connection for it timed out.
CLOSED -     Connection is half closed.
    regards,
    Ajay Kumar

  • ACE : Connection failures counter

    rserver: HQVEUN219
    10.56.7.95:443 8 OPERATIONAL 9 130389 14
What does the connections failures field mean ? Is it the number of time the ACE did not receive a SYN-ACK packet within a time window after having sent a SYN ? If it is true, what is the timeout value and can I modify it ?
    Thank you
    Yves Haemmerli

    Yves,
the timeout is the embryonic timeout and it can be configured within a parameter-map.
Other reason for this counter to increment is if the rserver responds with a RST.
We have also seen bugs where the client sending a RST results in this counter to increment.
If you can, verify with a sniffer trace in what condition you are before changing the embryonic timeout.
    Gilles.

  • Total Connections Failed

    Hi,
I'm currently seeing the counters for the 'Total Connections Failed' statistic increasing by a large amount.
What I can't see is why. The serverfarms we have don't see to show any drops.
Using ANM 5.1 we also see this under 'Monitor' 'Load Balancing' 'Statistics'
Can anyone help me troubleshoot the reason for this?

    Hi Steve,
Total number of connection attempts that failed to establish a connection to the real server.
For Layer 4 traffic with normalization on, the count increments if the three-way handshake fails to be established for either of the following
    reasons:
. A RST comes from the client or the server after a SYN-ACK.
. The server does not reply to a SYN. The connection times out.
For Layer 4 traffic with normalization off, the count does not increment.
For L7 traffic (normalization is always on), the count increments if the three-way handshake fails to be established for either of the following
    reasons:
.   A RST comes from the server after the front-end connection is established
.   The server does not reply to a SYN. The connection times out.
There general counter references a number of things, it could be also a route lookup failure, we could see it from "show np 1 me-stats -socm":
    Drop [route lookup fail]
One of the reasons that this could increment is if the ACE receives any traffic it does not know how to route in which case it will be dropped.

  • Under show serverfarms what does failures mean?

When u do show serverfarm u see connections failures. How do u dig into what serverfarm connection failures are?
When u do show serverfarm detail it does not tell u much
    Eg:
    serverfarm : 5.7.133.98-80, type: HOST
    total rservers : 1
    ----------connections-----------
real weight state current total failures
    ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------
    rserver: nj09mhe0004
    172.28.8.33:2098 8 OPERATIONAL 0 14112 224
So we have 224 connection failures what do they mean?

Failures are counted when the server does not respond to a SYN from ACE or responds with a RESET.
    Gilles.

  • White Screen - total system failure

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro, 1.83 GHz, serial # begins with W8614. I set up the AirPort wireless base and at first I could only get an internet connection right next to the base - I lost it if I moved farther away. I tried again later from the next room and this time the internet connection seemed to work. I was browsing the web and suddenly the entire screen went white for a few seconds, then nothing. The screen went dark and the computer died.
I unplugged it from the power source and plugged it in again, closed and opened it, tried every button, couldn't get anything to happen, the screen was totally dark. The computer was still on, though, because it was hot and the little white light at the latch on the front was on. I assumed the battery was still running, so I waited overnight for it to run out.
The next morning it was cold and the latch light was off. I plugged it back into the power adapter and tried to turn it on. For a second I heard a flicker of noise and then nothing again.
I called Apple tech support and they asked me to try a few things like resetting the power manager but nothing worked, it was still dead. So they arranged for me to send it in for repair. My question is: what could cause this kind of total system failure? It died completely in the first few minutes I was using it! Apple's always crowing about how reliable its computers are compared to the competition, but this performance is ghastly. It does not inspire confidence, to say the least. Can this kind of problem be repaired? Should I have any faith in the machine once it's returned to me? Yipes.

I bought it from Amazon, not Apple. Amazon allows you to return opened computers within 30 days, but they charge a 15% fee. I was hoping when I called Apple tech support that they'd just offer to replace it right away, but I guess if you buy the computer somewhere else their policy is to try repair first.
Certainly if Apple can't repair it, they'll send me another one. It's just that I never heard of a computer totally dying like that right after purchase - I wasn't aware how often that occurs. I'm just worried it might be buggy and crash frequently after I get it back - in other words, it might be a lemon. Hopefully I won't have to have it repaired over and over. Plus, of course I'm annoyed that I just acquired my shiny new expensive machine and now I have to wait two weeks before I can begin to use it.
Thanks for replying. Do you have an idea what causes this type of white screen demise? Any reassurance would be helpful.

  • Connection failures

    Dear Sir,
I am getting the following error sometimes when browsers (using IE5.5) take
a page from my website served up with Weblogic 5.1
The page contains some JavaScript and HTML.
Please note that this does not always happen but when it does it only
happens from PCs on the same sub-network as the server.
It looks like a weblogic error to me. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

What would cause a RESET from the server?
I have a situation where a SSL connection through ACE to a server works fine from some workstations and it does not work from others. It is not a network connectivity issue. When it fails I get the message indicating there is a certificate error, then I click continue and get a page cannot be displayed.
This works fine from other workstations.

I have the 1st generation iPad.  All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect.  I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect.  My other divices are connected....iPhone and 3 Macs.  Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • A significant number of connection failures have occurred with a remote server (Event ID 14502)

I see a number of these events on my Lync 2010 Server. NSlookup shows that 75.0.230.1 is an sbcglobal.net server. (See bolded text.) I have no federation or other connections to sbcglobal.net or AT&T, so why is my Lync server attempting to contact this
    server (and others) at all?

To combat the issue, enable an HLB port on your FE servers (or any other pool you are using HLB on) and configure the health checks for the load balancer to use that port instead of the port used for TLS traffic.
Start by configuring the pool in Topology Builder, right click the pool, and choose Edit Properties>General.  Place a check in the “Enable Hardware Load Balancer monitoring port” and specify a port.
Also you can refer below link

  • I'm having strange random connection failures. Are there ineffieciency in my config?

I've been having strange, random connection failures and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.
What happens is while I'm browsing on the net over wifi, a link will at random not connect to the site, but instead fault to the ISP error page. It happens with highly reliable sites like google, or ebay, or whatever. If I direct connect to the cable modem, the problem site is immediately available.
I'm sitting <6 feet from a 871W router (with antenna). There's one router in my building and others are at my neighbors.
Below is the conf file. Just to imagine how rediculious this problem is, here's a screen shot from a web page. This shows a web page I visited, and after clicking on a link (an embedded youtube video), the error showed up within the page itself.
Why would only some URLs fail to connect? Is there inefficiencies in my config?

I removed the ip router 0 0 to no great effect, which I consider to be a win.
I'm guessing that since overload is what--I understand--translates the one outside to the many inside IPs, that the suggestion to have only one overload configured means I should combine the two ip ranges into one.
I deleted 10.0.0.0 network. Changed the bridge references to 1 and vlan references to 1. Now wifi and ethernet should all be using the same internal network? That's the idea, right? Any more fat?

  • Datasocket connection failure requires restart of VI

I'm using LabView RT 8.5 together with a cFP-2110. I have shared variables hosted on the cFP, as the cFP application works by itself without the need of a host PC application. However, a host PC application can be connected and read/write shared variables to work as a GUI. The shared variables are accessed with Datasocket VIs, as the same application is to be used on different cFPs with different IP addresses.
The Datasocket connections is opened once and then the variables are accessed in a while loop. Before accessing the variables, RT Ping Controllers.vi checks if the cFP is still accessible. If not (or if the Datasocket Read operation fails), the Datasocket connection is closed. Now here comes the problem. When I want to re-establish the connection with Datasocket Open, I only get Error 66 (Connection closed by the peer). The only way I have found to "reset" this behaviour, is to close/stop the host VI and start it again. Is there an easier way to solve this? I assume the reason lies in something not being reset in the connection between the PC and the cFP. But what, and how can it be reset? Note that I have closed the connection with Datasocket Close in case of a failure.
I do not need answers about how I can avoid the connection failures in the first place. They can e.g. be caused by the cFP being temporarily too busy or something. The issue is when a failure HAS occurred, I want to be able to re-establish the connection without restarting the VI. How?

Isn't there anyone with similar experiences?
I would assume that someone would be interested in being able to restore a connection after a failure. Improving connections to minimize the risk of failures is not anyway a 100% solution. Sooner or later a failure will occur. And in that case I am not pleased with having to restart the application in order to get the system back on track.
I have already tried searching for previous posts regarding this, but the search results are very poor. Any ideas?

My Apple Id is also fine as it works with my ipad.
    Any suggestions?

Post subject: NSURLErrorDomain error -1100 in OS X 10.8
If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile
