ACR 3.7 is showing as ACR 2.4 in Calibrate Tab

Hello,
I apologize if this has been answered before but I just can't find it.
As way of background, at one time I was using Elements 3.  Later on I installed CS and subsequently updated to CS2.  My camera is a Nikon D70s.
Over time, I installed the updates for ACR and have been using version 3.6 pretty much since it was released.  But whenever I would click on the Calibrate tab in bridge it would always show ACR 2.4.  I never understood why that was so, but I essentially ignored it.  Today I finally decided to update ACR to 3.7 and have removed the prior version to another folder.  But when I open Bridge, the calibrate tab still shows ACR 2.4.  A few minutes ago I shot a few new pictures and downloaded them to my machine on the chance that maybe the older files had retained prior data, but even with the new pictures, the  Calibrate tab is still showing ACR 2.4.  I know that the file I'm using is ACR 3.7 becasue it has all of the characterisitics of ACR 3.7, so why is the Calibrate tab still showing ACR 2.4?
This is now bugging the heck out of me and if anyone can help me get this resolved I would be most appreciative.
Thank you.
Mitch

According to the Camera Raw ReadMe.pdf files, support for the Nikon D70s didn't come until ACR 3.2.  The D70 was supported as early as ACR 2.4 (or maybe even earlier), but not the D70s, so it seems that the Calibrate tab should at least be showing ACR 3.2, not ACR 2.4.
[Edit] I should further add that ACR 2.4 is intended for CS whereas it is the ACR 3.x numbering that was created for CS2, so it's making even less sense to me that the Calibrate tab for my CS2 software is showing ACR 2.4.

  • ACR calibrate tab and Vuescan DNG

Having ordered a Nikon Coolscan V ED scanner to digitize ektachrome slides, I am now busy reading and thinking about how to best to include scanned pics in my workflow. Note that one key element of my workflow is to do as much as possible in ACR per the teachings of Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe and others. The current ACR 4.x is more than just a raw converter.
I realize that I can make a custom profile for my scanner. However, ACR does not use scanner profiles or camera profiles. Instead, ACR provides the calibrate tab to accomplish the same purpose. Has anyone calibrated their scanner as follows and if so, do you have any tips/suggestions to share?
    1. Use Vuescan professional to scan an it8 target. One source for reasonably priced targets is Wolf Faust, http://www.targets.coloraid.de/
    2. Tell Vuescan to output the scan as a DNG. Yes, I know this is not a true raw image.
    3. Open the DNG in ACR and go through the calibration process. If you are not familiar with this process, here is a description by the late Bruce Fraser. http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/21351.html
Of course Bruce was describing the process for using ACR to calibrate a camera, not a scanner. Fortunately, the principles are the same. The color patches on an it8 target are supposed to conform to a standard and you receive a file stating those color values when you buy the target. The goal then is to scan your target and then use the ACR calibrate tab to tweak the colors of the scanned image so they are as close to the standard colors as possible.
    4. To help with step 3, Rags Gardner has posted a CS script for it8 targets at http://www.rags-int-inc.com/PhotoTechStuff/ColorCalibration/
This script does not do the calibration for you but instead it reads the color values in your scanned target and produces a report showing the color values in your scanned target and the standard color values you are trying to get close to via the calibration process.
    5. Save the result of the scanner calibration and recall it whenever using ACR to process DNGs produced by the same scanner and Vuescan.
    Does this make sense?
    Anyone tried it?
Can the ACR calibrate process work with a Vuescan DNG?

    Joseph,
My first reaction is that I would recommend traditional profiling for scanners and skipping ACR completely. That said, I enabled TIF scanner support as a result of a request from another user. He indicated he was satisfied with the results. The ACR calibration script does calibrate. With the proper target datasheet, it can be used with negatives. The read colors script merely reports the target/image differences. The DNG step should be unnecessary.
Since this is somewhat new territory with CS3, I would be willing to work with you offline to see if we can accomplish something that fits your workflow. Contact me via my web site.
As a TIF image, I would expect ACR to honor whatever image profile was already tagged on input. Thus, ACR could be used simply for aesthetic tweaking and things like cropping. I must admit I have not tested this thoroughly. It might be treating it as untagged raw values? If so, I have a lot of questions about what ACR does with JPG images.
If ACR is ignoring the TIF profile, it could explain why Vuescan is not giving you the results you expect. Have you run a target through Vuescan profiling, saved it as TIF, then just run read colors to evaluate the results? Then do the same after opening in ACR with everything defaulted.
    Cheers, Rags :-)

  • Does ACR 7 delete D800 profiles from ACR 6.7?

I have a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro, both of which are running, OS X 10.7.3, Photoshop CS5, and ACR 6.7rc1. On the Macbook Pro, the folders for D800 and D800E profiles are present, and the canned profiles for those cameras appear in the Camera Profiles menu of ACR 6.7. But these folders and profiles are missing on the Mac Pro. I can load D800 raw files into PS CS5 on that machine, but ACR 6.7 only shows "Matrix" in the Camera Profiles menu.
Maybe the installation of ACR 6.7rc1 went awry on the Mac Pro. There's another possibility. I installed the beta versions of Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 on the Mac Pro. They are running side by side with CS5 and appear to function OK. CS6 comes with ACR 7. Perhaps there is a conflict between ACR 6.7 and ACR 7.
I know that ACR 7 does not yet support D800(E). Is it possible that the CS6 installer removed the D800(E) profiles that had been installed by ACR 6.7?
Can ACR 6.7 and ACR 7 run on the same machine?
Is it safe for me to copy those missing profiles from Macbook Pro to the Mac Pro?

I sent the JPG to a service for a print on canvas. They reported that the image was not the proper size and shape when they opened it in Photoshop. Unfortunately I have not been able to get them to tell me what pixel size it was, just rough inches (!?!?!). So I started trying things in Photoshop and came up with this strange behavior that might explain the problem at the service.

  • Why does my Firefox look like the ollder versions? - your examples show a new look with the orange tab in the top left hand corner

The examples shown for Firefox 4 and above show a browser with the orange Firefox tab on the top left corner.
In my case, the browser continues to look - and operate like the older versions.

Go to View (or just right-click on any empty space of Firefox's panels - for example, near the tabs) and turn off the Main Menu Panel. You'll see what you're looking for.

  • With no tabs showing, how do I open a new tab?

There used to be a command line icon "open new tab". It's gone in F5. Why? What's the replacement when I have no tabs open?

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
If you can't find the new tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible to the left of it.

  • Camera raw 8.3 preview now allways shows all changes instead the changes by tab

Since the last update now " the previw" shows all the changes made in all tabs instead tab by tab
Really hope someone can help me with this one.
    regards
    M.Steyaert

Agreed, while I welcome the ability to preview all the changes at once, I would like to retain the old functionality of the tab by tab preview. Hard to tell if you have used excessive noise reduction if that part of the image is as not visible without the general tad adjustments present (when trying to compare for detail loss).
    Also well explained here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6292569#6292569
A workaround for now would be to close the image and re-open after you're happy with each tab (as if you get them all right first time!).

  • I don't want "most visited" pages to show up when I open a new tab

Is there a setting that allows me to disable having all my most recent pages visited showing up when I open a new tab?

This is what I did, hope this helps you:
    # type about:config into the address bar
    # Agree to not break anything at the prompt!
    # Type "tab" in the search field at the top of the list
    # Find the line that reads: browser.newtab.url
    # Change the value to "about:blank"
    # Close the config!

  • Imported DNGs generated in ACR for Windows only show thumbnails

    Hi,
Today I imported DNGs from pictures I've created with my 350D through the last year or so. Some of these work completely fine, but others won't show the full-resolution image; they only show a small 256 x 171 thumbnail version.
There is a pattern to whether it's working correctly or not: the DNGs that display correctly were converted on my old iBook - in other words using Adobe Camera Raw for Mac - and the ones that don't work were the pictures I processed on my Windows PC, thus using the Windows version of ACR.
Another thing I've noticed is that apparently the changes made to the pictures in ACR are not recognized by Aperture - is this to be expected?
Does anyone have any idea what I could do to make my pictures work as they should? Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE
My solution works but I would suggest a few things to avoid a problem I encountered (see THE PROBLEM below):
    - Copy your Aperture Library File to the desktop (after backing it up to your vault), then reload Aperture. Your Library should now be empty.
    - Then import your DNGs in batches to this new library
    - As each import batch is successful, export the project to a file on the Desktop.
    - When they have all been successful, copy your original Aperture Library file back to its original location (after deleting the new one you created)
    - Then import the projects you saved to the Desktop one by one
The above steps mean that you don't have to go through the process of restoring your library (and all the thumbnails) should Aperture spit the dummy and crash during a DNG import. If it does, you won't be able to fix it without restoring the library... A pain in the A
    THE PROBLEM
I was having a problem with a handful of DNGs which seemed to cause Aperture to crash and exit. I couldn't work out what was going on but now I think I have an answer.
The problem seemed to be with DNGs created with the newer versions of the Windows DNG Converter. Converting them with the latest Mac DNG Converter (v3.4) did not resolve the issue.
So, I downloaded the Mac DNG converter v3.1 and converted the existing troublesome DNGs v3.1.... and it works. I can now import even the troublesome DNGs into Aperture now without a hitch.
There seems to be no way of telling which DNG converter version was used to create an individual DNG although I found that it was related to all DNGs after a certain date (ie. the date I started using the newer DNG converter!)
I hope this of help to everyone and that it has answered the question.
    Cheers,
    Paul Martin

  • ACR 4.6 plugin installed but shows only ACR 4.4 in LR2 calibration?

    Hi All,
First post here, so any responses would be appreciated. This isn't necessarily a problem, ie I can't see any negative effect, but there is a discrepancy which I can't understand.
I have Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2 (updated to 2.7), with the Camera Raw v4.6 pulgin installed (as I understand the most up to date available for PS CS3). Why then in the Photoshop Camera Raw interface 'Camera Calibration' drop down, and also in the LR2 calibration drop down, does it only show 'ACR 4.4' as the most up to date plugin (along with ACR 4.3 and the other presets for my Nikon D3)? Why not 4.6 in that list? Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Helen

The camera profile named ACR x.y is typically the version of ACR when the particular camera model's RAW format was first supported; however, for very old cameras, such as my Canon Digital Rebel 300D, it has a camera profile named ACR 2.4 (the first version when the camera was supported) and another named ACR 4.4 (the version when most all profiles were revised), and then of course there are all the newer style profiles that do not have an ACR version in them, that began to be supported in ACR 5.2, although the beta version of those newer profiles were supported started in ACR 4.6.

  • ACR 5.4 Beta shows up with Japanese Text

    hi:
    1.  i just downloaded--> installed ACR 5.4 beta and DNG.
    2.  the DNG looks normal (ie just like the prior version etc...).
    3.  however, when i open up ACR, everything is in japanese text, including the photoshop headers etc...  no big deal at this time, because i'm sure this is going to be fixed and i know what all the sliders are about etc...    but just an FYI.

    thomas:
    1.  thanks for the info.
    2.  as per what the other person noted--> what you suggested isn't that easy (basically i'm stuck).
    3.  first of all, i was able to find--> download a prior version or ACR--> manually placed it in the correct spot--> fired up a RAW file--> everything looks normal (ie english text etc...).
    4.  i then downloaded ACR 5.4 and proceeded with the reinstall.   however at this point, the installer said that i couldn't install 5.4 because it was already installed in my cpu.    i manually looked as well as did a search for camera raw 5.4 in spotlight--> couldn't find it.    i also searched adobe photoshop help in re: unstalling things--> nothing.
    5. thus the question is:  how in the world do i uninstall camera raw 5.4 (i'm not even sure it's in my cpu but the installer thinks it is etc...).
thanks for your help.     harry shin
    6.  by the way, while i'm at it, in adobe bridge, 5.4 doesn't recognize my Olympus E-620 raw files (ie can't see the thumbnail image), but when i actually open up the image in ACR--> the image is there etc...  thus, there's also funky going on with bridge.

  • Lens Profiles in ACR/LR no longer showing

Hello, my first question here.  I use PS5 and LR3 and up until recently the correct lens profiles would show up in Camera Raw and in Lightroom.  Now, seemingly without changing anything, the lens profiles are only showing approximately 12 lenses and the wrong camera body without the abilty to find the correct one.  I shoot in RAW and have no idea what is preventing the profiles from showing up.  I have the box checked to automatically show the lens profiles but it the profile remain blank when an image is shown.  Even choosing Canon only brings the limited profile and while I use a 5DMKII, the body that shows is a 1DsMKIII which I don't own.
Any help will really be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    Andy

When I look in Camera Raw, I don't see any camera model information at all except in one case - my 17-40 zoom...  Note that the rest say Adobe...
Maybe your software can't get online to download the Adobe profiles?

  • Incorrect ACR 5.6 download link in ACR TechNote

If you follow the TechNote route:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html
and follow the Knowledge Base to:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407344.html
and then instructions to install ACR 5.6 on Elements 6 "Install Camera Raw 5.6 for Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows". The link:-
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4582
takes you to ACR 5.5 download.
The correct ACR 5.6 link is:-
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4626
    Can someone please correct this?

I see.  I have had similar problems in the past with PSE reporting BOTH versions in its filter
list, but that was because I had not renamed the old file and moved it.  I just moved it and Adobe tracked it down some
how and showed both versions as active at the same time.
I did learn that Lightroom's ACR is built in so there is no need to get the plug in unless we do have PSE (for our listeners here).
I did note that my new update to LR 2.6 that the flash screen that first comes up does not say anything about the ACR version like it used to.
You can only see which ACR is in LR 2.6 when you go into Help/About (for our listeners here).
I have not tried the ACR 5.6 plug in for my PSE 6 yet but I will have to for compatibility with LR.  I do intend to get PSE8 soon and maybe Premiere Elements so I can make slide shows to play on TV DVD players.  My wife got a free upgrade to Windows 7 and I understand that Windows Media Player can make a slideshow for the TV, but I don't know if it is the low quality (the unsatisfactory images) or whether it can make really good slideshows for my analog Sony TV as well as HDTV which two of my sons have.  If anyone does know about this, I sure would like to know which tools I must have or can get away with.  Per Barbara, I do have to check the software included with my PC to see if the DVD burner came with something.

  • (Minor?) Bug:  ACR Preferences file does not match ACR version number

This may be of no major consequence (I don't know one way or the other) but the preferences file for ACR 4.2 on my Mac shows up as "Adobe Camera Raw 4.1 Prefs", even after trashing it and letting ACR rebuild it.

The question mark should have been after "Bug", I reckon. (As in "Bug?")
The reason I brought it up was that it has caused confusion to at least one user over at the Bridge Macintosh forum.
The Adobe Bridge team has been suggesting to purge the ACR cache as a means to alleviate a very significant bug in Bridge (it's showing the wrong thumbnail and preview in some instances, speciously calling up thumbnails and previews of totally unrelated images in very different folders).
Therefore, that user (and I suspect others) tried nuking the ACR preferences file as well.
