Acrobat 9 Interface Glitches

These probably don't rise to the level of a bug, but they are annoying.  I'm working with multipage documents that need to be resorted into separate documents.  This is a recurring task with periodic additions to existing documents.
1. In the Pages Panel, if there are more pages than fit in the available area, the last row of pages is almost completely hidden off the bottom of the screen even when scrolling to the bottom, using the scroll bar or arrow keys.  There is just the slimmest edge of the top of the thumbnails visible.  The only way to see those pages appears to be to expand the actual size of the window.  Of course, that only works if the window is not maximized.
2.  There seems to be no way to change the default size of the thumbnails (unless I just missed it).  I need to be able to see enough of the page to actually read parts of it.  I can expand the thumbnail size, but it reverts to default when I reopen Acrobat later.
3. There appears to be no way to set a default view so the Pages pane is visible on startup (again, I couldn't find a way)
4. If moving among the thumbnail pages with arrow keys, the full-size page display does not update unless enter is pressed.  I'd like to to update automatically.  Mouse clicking causes such an update.
5. Combining pages from different documents sometimes produces a combined document where the pages appear to be different sizes -- I'm assuming they are different resolutions, but I can't figure out how to adjust for or correct this.
6. Creating a new document by copying an existing page and creating from the clipboard produces a final document with a different resolution from the original.  I can't figure this one out either.  I'd like to keep the original resolution.
7.  There appears to be no way to create a customized tool button for either Enlarge Thumbnails (would be a workaround for #2, above) or for Save As (which I need frequently)
Help with any of these appreciated

Thanks DSF1!
This is a major bug (going back to at lease Acrobat 5) and just one of many related to the “Document Properties > Initial View” setting, which seem to be a “special project” for the Adobe Acrobat tech-team. I say “special” in the sense that the goal appears to be … How can they address these issues in each successive version to actually make them LESS FUNCTIONAL and LESS INTUITIVE?
Default = Sucks!
I run a successful graphic design firm and have invested well over $1000,000 in various Adobe products. When we send our work to clients (via PDF) for review, EVERY aspect – window size, window placement, format and flow of pages, page layout, navigation options, page magnification, document page numbers, document titles and file names, etc., etc. etc. – are absolutely critical. The “default” settings for Acrobat address virtually none of these issues and Adobe seems not to care at all! 99.9% of all the Acrobat documents that I receive are completely unformatted and must be reset before they can be navigated or reviewed.
Navigation Tab > Pages Panel and Page = Does Not Work!
However, perhaps most critical is that the recipient realizes that the document contains multiple pages, vs. a single page. The failure of the “Navigation Tab > Pages Panel and Page” setting to function in any logical and consistent (read – where is the default setting for this?) manner has been and is a fatal flaw in Adobe Acrobat. We have dealt with this (“Where is the rest of the document?”) literally hundreds of times and while it is a big headache for our staff, what worries me more are the recipients that never even bother to ask.
Thumbnail Size = Does Not Work!
I too have found no way to set the default size of the thumbnails. To add insult to injury, after you do enlarge them manually (2-3 steps) and enlarge the Pages Panel pane to accommodate the slightly larger thumbnails, guess what happens? When you reopen the document, Acrobat reverts to the original (tiny) thumbnails, but retains the enlarged (now useless) Pages Panel pane, while equally reducing the actual content in the Page pane. This is massively stupid!
Page Layout for Viewing and Printing = Does Not Work!
Another pet peeve is the “Page Layout” settings. When we design a multi-page document and convert it to PDF for review, it is imperative that the “flow” of the document – i.e. single page cover, followed by two-page spreads – be replicated as closely as possible. And while this on-screen experience is important, of nearly equal importance is the ability of the recipient to print each individual page of our design, as an individual 8.5 x 11 page. Again, finding a way to accomplish this in a logical and consistent manner is virtually impossible.
Printing = Why So Slow?
Speaking of printing ... Why does it usually take “forever” to print (even small) PDF files on a laser printer?
Controlling the Viewing Experience = Does Not Work!
In short, we usually have no idea exactly what our clients are seeing because Adobe provides no default settings that can be set globally and “locked” so that one has a bit of control over the viewing presentation experienced by the recipient. On the other had, Adobe does provide a mindless blizzard of security options which probably serve about 1% of their customers.
Sorry for the rant, but if anyone has any ideas, I love to hear them. Thank you very much!

  • Acrobat X interface is pixelated - how to fix?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 8.1 and installed Acrobat CS6 including Acrobat X (10.1.13). I have a bizarre problem. The entire interface looks pixelated: the menus, contents of PDF files, everything. Playing around with the settings under Preferences/Page Display doesn't help. For instance, changing the screen resolution has no effect other than to re-size the document that's open, and when I zoom it back to a reasonable size it has exactly the same pixelation problem.
I have a 30" Dell 3007WFP monitor and a Radeon X1650 graphics card, resolution 2560 X 1600. I also have a second monitor (LG Ultrawide) and things look a bit better on that, but not as good as I'd like. (I can't figure out the resolution on this monitor - Windows says it's also 2560 x 1080, but I don't think that's right. The screen is much wider than the Dell.)
I didn't have this problem with Windows 7, but that was with an earlier version of Acrobat as well.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I think I've figured out how to solve this pixelation problem. Apparently the problem is not specific to Acrobat, but can arise with some older programs that weren't designed for Windows 8 (see more here). The solution is to follow the steps outlined in that link: pin Acrobat to the task bar, right click and select Properties and then the Compatibility tab, then make sure the box next to "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" is checked. Voila, now the Acrobat 10 interface appears in beautiful high resolution.
I hope this helps anyone who might have this problem down the road!

  • Acrobat X interface issues (particularly in commenting)

I have not been very impressed with the interface changes with Acrobat. I don't mind that they have adopted a new accordion style interface so much (Although the do seem to be reinventing the wheel with each release). What I do see as a major issue is that the desicion to go with a non native interface causes it to be very quirky, sluggish and unpredictable.
I do a LOT of annual reports. And I have always found the PDF markup to be invaluable for alterations. I used to be able to receive a PDF with 800+ comments and display them on the side and check them off one by one with ease! But now since the upgrade the commenting panel has caused me to be about half as productive.
    * If I right hand click a comment to mark it as "completed" I have to move quite slowly and precicly over the contextual submens and sometimes click on "complete" multiple times. If I move over things too quickly the menu dissapears.
    * I uesed to be able to filter completed comments as I go so that once I checked it, it dissapeard from the list making it easy to keep trak of what had been completed and what needed completing. Now to acheive this I have to force the filter to refresh by turning the filter of and on again each time I want to get rid of completed comments. This is a killer
    * Scrolling through the comments in the comments pannel is the worst! Sometimes I might be just clickin on a comment and for no reason Acrobat X will srcoll up or down hiding your next comment. If you click on the scroll bar arrows I tend to find they have poor reponsivness and you will find yourself lost in the list very quickly. And dont even bother with your mouse scrolling wheel... it looks like it is trying to scroll but is working against natual forces.
Very dissapointed with this release. Adobe software should be like a workhorse, able to handle heavy loads... however these silly atsthetic choices seem to be lagging the most basic tools down.
I dont know... I am just feeling realy let down about this. This software is not cheap!

You probably don't want to hear this but some of this things have been improved in Acrobat XI - specifically you can undock the Comments list. Please feel free to voice your comments and concerns here in the Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

  • Hide Acrobat/Reader interface

Is it possible to hide Acrobat or Reader interface, in order on the screen to have only
the pdf file without menus and so on...
    Thank you

    The Escape key.
    Or you can script different views like to show single page: event.target.viewState = {pageViewLayoutMode:1};
Radzmar has a document that shows all the options but Adobe has messed around with acrobat.com and old links aren't working any more. Ah but I found it in my acrobat.com workspace!

  • How can I move ALL Tools to the left side of the Acrobat XI interface?

    Hi, all:
I really tried to find this in assorted Adobe 'resources'. I looked in 'Workspace'. I'm burnin' work time here.
ALL Tools, Fill & Sign, Comments, the whole schmear.
    HELP!
I really didn't want to be fenced in to just the "Acrobat Feature Requests" 'community', but I'm dyin' here. I just have to get this thing posted.
    Thanks!

    First, THANK YOU, try67.
That's really inadequate on Adobe's part. This is a real thing that keeps me from working efficiently without choosing between neck pain and eye-strain.
I'm rusty at using forums. Any advice on bringing this to their attention? I do believe I'm in 'Feature Requests'. Is this the best I can do?

  • Appstore user interface glitch

I get this glitch as seen in the top of the image when I´m in the appstore. All text and font settings are default. Any suggestions how to solve it?
    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I can confirm that. This problem has been present for some time now in the swedish appstore on the iphone.
This exist on both my new iPhone4 and my old iPhone3G.
As the appstore in the iphone is a "website" im surprised this error has not been fixed several months ago.
Please fix this...it has been bugging me to long already.

  • Time machine interface glitch

Has anyone else noticed that the text displaying the date and time is behind the forward and back arrows? I find it frustrating and it restricts usability.

The problem you are seeing must be related to your aspect ratio or bit depth. On my 23" Cinema Display set at 1920 X 1200 (connected to a MBP) the date and time of the backup is a half inch to the right of the forward and back arrows and clearly visible.
Maybe the Time Machine display is optimized for wide monitors?

  • Scanning directly from Acrobat XI Pro interface no longer working

    OS 10.10.2
    Acrobat XI Pro (latest version)
Cannon PIXMA MX300 scanner/printer (also using its latest drivers and software)
Up until recently, I was able to open Acrobat XI Pro and do a "create new document from scanner..." with no problem. Acrobat scanned in whatever I had on my platen and it was Acrobat's interface through which I controlled any scanning details I needed to change or manipulate. It no longer lets me do this. I'm sent all the way back to the scanner driver and I have to issue commands (including OK) through this driver interface in order to complete my scan making the whole workflow slow, clunky, and a big pain in the a.
Cannon says that there is no newer scanner driver and that in fact, no driver from them is needed now as apparently what is "driving" the scanner now has been built into Apple's OS 10.10.2. yet that old driver window is still apparently being utilized either by Apple or by Adobe when I attempt to scan.
Anyway, HOW DO I GET ACROBAT to behave like it used to - where I can scan from directly inside of Acrobat with just the various messages and whatnot of Acrobat to address?
Yes, I reinstalled the "printer" and have only one single instance of a printer or scanner appearing in the list of choices so... ????!!!
    Help!
    L

YEah - that was what I was thinking but was hoping maybe to find out I was wrong. Ugh. I will send feedback to Apple as seems just kind of unnecessarily "rude". I mean I could understand their insisting on handling the scanning action if I did not have Acrobat open but not if I have an application open I am already working in. It's just rude and causes the user more time and work.

    Hi all,
there seems to be an interface glitch in iTunes 6.0.2 which prevents me from setting up a smart playlist rule containing a rating of 3 stars. Whenever i try to adjust the slider to * it jumps back to ***.
    Can anybody confirm this?

Yes, I can confirm it. Here's another thread, unfortunately without a solution yet: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=309553&tstart=90.

  • .FindText not respecting parameters in Acrobat 10

    Hello to all,
New to programming with Adobe. Experienced in MS Office VBA.
I have some code in VBA (EXCEL) that opens pdf files (created from WORD 2007 and searchable) and searches each one for a series of key words.
The example below works fine on Acrobat 8, but not on my newly installed Acrobat 10 (Acrobat X version 10.0.0).
The text to find is "CO" (whole word only, case sensistive) - not present as such in the test pdf file, but the word "COMMITTEE" is.
    The code used is: spfd = AVDoc.FindText("CO", 1, 1, 1)
This results in spfd=False for Acrobat 8 (which is correct), but results in spfd=True in acrobat 10.
If I do the same search through the Acrobat application interface on the same pdf file, specifying whole words only & case sensitive, it does not find a match, which is correct.
    Any thoughts?
Many thanks in advance for any help!
    timo_mika

    Hello to all,
This is justto say that the problem also occurs on a brand new machine with new Acrobat X installation. Any help would be appreciated, including other methods to find text (over 100 key words, noting that some of the strings contain more than one word...).
    Thanks!

  • Brighten Sticky Notes in Acrobat X?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it.
I have Acrobat 9 on my desktop, and Acrobat X on a shared server, and use sticky notes to help mark sections of documents. These sticky notes are color-coded.
Sticky notes in Acrobat 9 are bright, primary colors, and are easily distinguishable when viewing them in "comments": it is easy to differentiate light blue from dark blue, red from pink, green from yellow, etc.
However, the same sticky notes when viewed in the "comment" view in Acrobat X interface all have a pastel hue to them, and it is very difficult to distinguish colors: what appears to be green may actually be blue, what appears to be pink may actually be red, etc.
Question: is there a way to "brighten" the color tone of the sticky notes in Acrobat X? They appear as bright primary colors when SELECTING the color of the sticky note in "properties," but when viewing them in "comments," especially when there are several sticky notes in a single document, they all just kind of blend together and it's very difficult to tell one shade from another.
Is there some kind of "classic" view, or a way to turn off the "pastel" effect of the sticky notes when viewed in the "comments" view?
    Thanks!

  • Why is my mac showing a Super Nintendo-esque glitchy interface on login screen?

It makes my skin crawl. I am beginning to think that this Yosemite OS update was a mistake. This as well as other small interface glitches never happened before I downloaded the update, and I have had my Mac for about three years now. It comes right back to normal when I log in, but it shows that at times when I wake my Mac from Sleep mode. Is it crankiness perhaps?

That looks like  hardware fault, not a software issue. Suggest you contact Apple for a exam appointment.
We don't know which Macbook Pro you have but eh 2011 series seem plagued with video hardware issues if you look at the macbook Pro forums.

I just purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (upgrade) and it is doing the same thing on my other computer which has Windows Vista Business.
    Any suggestions?

Environment is Windows Vista with a Samsung CLX-3160FN and Acrobat Standard 8.1.3. New machine with plenty of memory. Had the same problem. Acrobat would shut down..."Acrobat has stopped working, etc.". Something is not right with Acrobat and Vista, and I suspect that Adobe needs to fix it. I finally managed to get it to work, but the native printer interface must be used...Adobe's much more functional (used to be functional) interface is not fully available.
Here is what I did: got all of the Samsung Vista drivers from the Samsung download site and installed them. What seemed to make the most difference was Network Scan, SetIP, SyncThru Web Admin Service, and SmartThru4, but I downloaded and installed every single Vista driver and software that Samsung had on the site. I installed the printer on the network...it was previously a direct local connection via USB. I discovered the device on SyncThru, and installed it on Network Scan. SetIP simply showed me that I had discovered the CLS-3160FN. Then I restarted all devices. Now I can scan using the SmartThru4 interface if I wish, but it is a little awkward. As I said, a workable Acrobat scanner interface is the ideal solution. So now I can use Acrobat to create a PDF with a scanner, but when I select that device on the Acrobat scan dialog box, I must choose WIA-Samsung 3160 Series as the scanner option, otherwise Acrobat fails and gives the Acrobat has stopped working error message. After I accept the initial Adobe dialog box (which does not allow me to select paper size, color or resolution), I am presented with the native scanner dialog box, which I must adjust to properly scan (default is flatbed, not ADF, legal paper, color, basic resolution...I can't seem to change the defaults). It then works pretty much normally, but I don't get the progress boxes that show the scan progress of each page. There is a box, but it does not show progress.
In summary, Adobe needs to fix this problem in Acrobat when used with Vista. I only use Acrobat to combine files and scan hard documents to PDF. 50% of the functionality was lost when I upgraded to Vista until I found this solution.

  • Firefox won't load pages; GUI is messed up.

As of this morning, Firefox is just really messed up. There seems to be some general interface glitch. My toolbars were all rearranged and settings for them changed, I can't open any pages, when a dialog box opens up the text is missing from it, etc.
I just updated my computer's BIOS last night, so that could be a factor. I also have two add-on's that just updated last time I ran Firefox. I'd like to disable them to see if they're the problem, but I can't actually DO anything within Firefox, so I can't disable anything. Is there a way to disable add-ons manually from outside the program? If I reinstall, is there a way to protect my bookmarks? My history seems to have disappeared already ('though I'm not sure if it's actually GONE or just not showing up).

  • How can I tell if my firewire port is faulty?

I recently cannot import video from my canon elura 100 which connects using a 4-6pin firewire cable. I thought maybe it was the cable so I grabbed my brother's black macbook and it seems to import fine, it still isn't 100% smooth like I think it should be but when I plugged the camera back into my black macbook, the video that was being imported just kept freezing and it seemed warped. I tried this process a few times and kept getting the same results. I feel as though I may have a firewire port issue. How could I check on my own. I know that when I use my firewire 410, I have no problems so I don't know what could be wrong. Any help?

Did any of your problems start with Snow Leopard, is your brother's machine running the same version of SL.
Over in the audio forum there are those having some problems with their firewire interfaces. (glitches, static...etc)
