Acrobat Form Distribution Error
I am using Acrobat Pro 9.4.3. I'm trying to distribute forms so I can track responses. I'm using the option to have the replies come to my email inbox because not all recipients are behind the firewall. The distribution is using the default .FDF response format. Forms work okay until I get the response. When I try to open the file I get the following error message: The file you are attempting to open contains comments or form data that are supposed to be placed on . This document cannot be found. It may have been moved, or deleted. Would you like to browse to attempt to locate this file?
I've tried browsing for and using the original file and the distributed file. Data shows up either way, but nothing makes it to the responses file. We recent received upgraded machines and all software was reloaded with default options. This feature worked fine before the upgrades, so I'm thinking it's something easy like reseting an option, but I don't know which one. Any help would be appreciated.
Is this in the wrong forum? The problem I am having is with Acrobat's Distribution feature.

Form distribution error with email client
Hi All-
I have an extremely frustrating problem. I have designed a form in LiveCycle ES 8.2.1 for users to fill out and submit via xml. I would like to use Acrobat Pro 9.1.0 to track and collect responses from this form. When I test the original form, the submit button works perfectly and it opens my email client (Groupwise) attaches the xml and populates the To, Subject, and Body fields perfectly.
The problem comes when I try to use Acrobat to distribute and track the forms. It creates a filed called 'form_distributed' that adds a bunch of code that completely screws up my form submission. When the form_distributed is filled out, and the user clicks the submit button, Groupwise is invoked, but I get a 'Check Names' dialog box that states
"Windows Messaging does not recognize "1. Double-click the attachment".
After I click cancel on that dialog box, the JavaScript Debugger shows:
Exception in line 63 of function top_level, script XFA:form1[0]:p1[0]:Button1[0]:click
RaiseError: One of the specified recipients is not resolvable.
Doc.submitForm:63:XFA:form1[0]:p1[0]:Button1[0]:click
===> One of the specified recipients is not resolvable.
The distributed version has this extra code inserted
< script contentType="application/x-javascript">//@@SUBMITURL "mailto:[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n1. Double-click the attachment.\n2. Acrobat will prompt you to select a responses file.&ui=false"
and further down....
// submit the form
if (bContinue) {
var rawURL = "[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n1. Double-click the attachment.\n2. Acrobat will prompt you to select a responses file.&ui=false";
var submitURL;
if (app.viewerVersion < 9.0)
submitURL = "mailto:" + rawURL;
else
submitURL = "mailto:" + escape(rawURL);
currentDoc.submitForm({
cURL: submitURL,
cSubmitAs: "PDF"
});
}
Are these lines of code always inserted when the form is distributed?
How can I distribute and track these responses?
It seems to be reading
"[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n"
as the first email address and then getting hung up on the body and interpreting it as an incomplete email address.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Is this in the wrong forum? The problem I am having is with Acrobat's Distribution feature.

"Serial Distribution" of Acrobat Forms?
I work in a "paper era" office with people who can be persuaded to use the Acrobat forms
distribution/approval process for simple projects, but freeze when it comes to documents that need
"serial" (or consecutive) approval. What do I mean by this?
a) person A fills out a form and signs it
b) he posts it to a folder
c) person B opens and signs
d) then person C has a say...
and on through up to nine signatures.
Because there's a hierarchy, these approvals have
to be done in the right order. So, aside from managing it manually -- which won't save all
that much time, but at least gets rid of the paper -- what I need is an automated distribution that
lets A sign, then forwards it to B, who signs and sends to C ... etc
Is this a possibility in Acrobat X Pro? Has anyone solved it?While Acrobat can handle multiple signatures, automating your process is a different matter, that will likely require a human element.
Yet this forum is for Acrobat.com. Acrobat.com provides online services for meetings and collaboration on documents, and we can't help with problems specific to the desktop version of Acrobat. I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

Why are we seeing the error message Forms Distribution Aborted?
We have been using Acrobat for years on a Windows XP platform, and now for the past 3 months, Acrobat XI on a Windows 7 Professional platform, creating distributed forms with no issue. In the last week or so we're seeing an error message indicating the Form distribution has been aborted, with an indication that the form is open with another user. It suggests to save as a different name or in a different folder. Saving as a different name doesn't resolve the issue, but saving it to a different folder does resolve the issue and the distribution completes properly. What would have changed and what do we need to do to eliminate saving to a different folder?
Thanks,
RandyHolsome1

Acrobat 9 Pro form distribution problem (Enhanced Security?)
I am trying to distribute an Acrobat Pro form to several individuals who happen to be listed in my Outlook 2003 Address Book. When I type an email address into the "To" section of the form distribution pane, Acrobat automatically converts the email address to the recipient's name, which I can only assume is being accessed throughthe Outlook Address Book. Is there any way to isolate Acrobat Pro from my address book? Would changing the Acrobat preferences for "Security (Enhanced)" and un-checking "Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones" keep Acrobat from accessing my Outlook address book?
Is it tunred off for the Reader installation or in your Acrobat installation. It doesn't matter what your Acrobat settings are when it's used by someone else with Reader.
Recent versions of Acrobat/Reader do not cache form data in the way mentioned by GKaiseril. This used to happen when a form was viewed in a browser. -

Acrobat Form Wizard, need to change distribution email address
When I'm using the Acrobat Form Wizard, I don't want my respondents to email me, I want them to email the Department I'm creating the form for. How do I change the email address?
I've got a PDF form, created by a client, which I'm trying to setup for email collection of completed forms.
Problem is, when I go through the steps to "distribute" the form, it never asks me what email address I'd like the completed forms sent to. And in the end, it choose my own personal email address.
Instead, I'd like to be able to specify my client's email address so he can receive the completed forms.
Can anyone tell me how to change the default address for receiving forms?
Thanks,

Developing Form Distribution for Clients
As a web developer, I've had good success developing an online form and distributing it via my own website.
However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this for my clients. The perfect scenario would be this:
I create an editable form named: AGREEMENT, and set up the distribution to manually send out the form and manually collect the responses. In the form, I create a submit button and put in my client's email address. (I enabled the Adobe extended features.) I would then send the AGREEMENT_distributed.pdf and the AGREEMENT_responses.pdf files to my client, which he would then save on his local hard drive. Then, whenever the client needed, could then send out the AGREEMENT_distributed.pdf in an email. His prospect would fill out the form, click the submit button, and the completed pdf would be emailed to my client. My client doesn't really care about the benefits of the AGREEMENT_responses.pdf file. He just wants an easy way to send out a blank pdf and received back a completed one.
The problems lies in the fact that the distributed.pdf file doesn't seem to work once it leaves my computer. I can't turn it over to him so that he can distribute. The error messages vary, from "file not encoded properly" to "inconsistent with this version of Acrobat".
How do I develop this for the client and turn it over to them?
Many thanks,You do not need different versions. However, you need to be sure that you create the form with backward compatibility to the earliest level you expect to be used. Also, there are differences between Acrobat created forms and Designer forms (obtained from the forms menu in Acrobat). If you use Designer, then you have eliminated editing in Acrobat.
If you expect more than 500 uses of the form by your website by users of Reader, then you need to negotiate with Adobe for the Reader rights. The EULA limits you to 500 saves of the form. It is normal for folks to submit form data by a web script. Since you are just developing the forms for clients, it may be their problem. If you will maintain the forms, you may need to address the license issue. The web submission (most reliable) by FDF or XML is the best way to go and does not require additional license approval beyond 500 (that is just for saving the form as required for submitting the full PDF).
If you receive either data formats, they can be opened in the form in Acrobat so you still have the complete form, but maybe with an extra step. However, you might find the data is easier to deal with for use in a database.
Back to the original: With each version of Acrobat, new form features have been added. You just need to avoid the feature that are AA9 specific. Also, you may want to use the reduce file size or PDF Optimizer (for Acrobat forms - not sure for Designer forms) to save for backward compatibility. -
Acrobat Pro 9.2.0
This bug was mentioned elsewhere by someone else but I thought I would mention it again since it has still not been fixed, and this might help someone else who is having the same problem.
The first screen of the Distribute Form dialog lets you choose the method you want to use to collect responses - Acrobat.com, email, or an internal web site. There is a checkbox at the bottom of the screen that says "Remember my choice." If this box is checked, this screen will be bypassed the next time the form is distributed.
However if you are distributing the form by email and have the "Remember my choice" box checked, the next time you try to distribute a form you get the error message "Failed to send the form to recipients", followed by "Form distribution is aborted."
The workaround is to leave the "Remember my choice" box unchecked and go through the whole dialog every time you distribute a form.

How can I click Acrobat Form button from VB (Excel Macro)?
I may be asking in the wrong forum, but I'm at my wit's end and think just about anyone with VB experience would be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong. Is there a forum for interapplication/ VB/ forms questions?
Suffice to say, I know very little about VB (or any of the other languages behind the software), but I've adapted code which has allowed me to get almost everything I need done, thus far.
I'm trying, desperately, to finalize a Macro which enables me to export a lot of Excel info into individual Acrobat Forms and save them all independently. This all works fine, but there is one last thing I've not been able to accomplish: I need to remote click (or 'focus on') a button in the Acrobat form in order to select the icon button (dynamically set image relevant to each individual form, base on excel cell). The button's name, in Acrobat, is 'Photo1' and it is located on the 3rd page of the form. I've several SendKeys commands in order to save each file with a unique, row specific name.

I'm pretty sure one of many issues is that I don't know the fully-qualified name of the field/button, or how to properly identify it in the Macro.
I have no doubt that my approach, if it's even possible, is clumsy and unfounded, but I am (obviously) flailing around for anything that can achieve clicking this confounded button. Any help appreciated.It was a button option - I haven't got access to Acrobat 8 here at home, but it was something like
Add menu item
File - attach to email
When the button was clicked, the email application would open with a new email and the PDF would be attached, so you could enter the recipients email address and send. -
My version of Acrobat XI Pro will not activate when trying to convert to an Acrobat form from an existing Word document. Acrobat not responding.
Please advise
John BHi johnb69345359,
I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. Lets try to resolve this issue.
I would require few details in order to diagnose the issue correctly :-
1) Are you able to launch Acrobat XI pro ?
If yes, please try Help -> Repair option to repair Acrobat XI pro. Then try to perform the covert operation.
2) Let me know the Operating system installed on your computer.
3) Is there any error code or error message?

Hello
I work usually with large PDF documents, and I was trying to convert a PDF document of 1000 pages ONE THOUSAND PAGES, to little PDF documents of 10 MB each one.
When I tried to convert the PDF file into little ones, craaashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I got this message:
Acrobat.exe Runtime Error! R6025 - pure virtual function call - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
This seems to be a BUG AS BIG A GRAND PIANO... so I would like someone from Adobe tell me how may I solve this problem or if they will release an update soon?
Thank youThis is a user to user forum and we don't post information here (or anywhere else public) about what may or may not be in future patch releases.
If you have a bug with an Adobe product you must report it using the correct form. -
"Submit Form" doesn't work in an Acrobat Form.
We created an Acrobat form which includes a "Submit Form" button, but this button does not work in Unix. Is this a known issue? If not, is there a fix for this?
Thanks for reporting the issue , can you please send us one such PDF form in which you are facing the issue. Also do let us know the version of Adobe Reader you are trying this on and also the Unix Distribution you are using.
thanks,

Broken Reader functionality after getting an Acrobat Form back.
Hi,
we have recently run into the problem that several completed Acrobat Forms with enabled extended Reader features (for saving the form from Reader) came back with the Reader features broken:
The main problem lies in the fact that we set some textboxes to allow multi-line entry and to scroll long text. (We were pretty certain that some users would need more space than there is available).
This leaves us with a completed form in which only users with Acrobat Standard or Pro can access the complete text entries.
I tried to reproduce the error but failed. I did use a single line of JavaScript as an page entry event on the first page to turn off the field overlay.
That's more or less all there's special about the file. At least there seems to be some kind of regularity in the behavior: a second version of the same form from one of the users causing problems was broken, too.
Unfortunately, I don't know any details on which reader version the users filling out the form have.
I also can't share the broken foms since the contents are pretty confidential.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Many thanks and best regards,
MikeYes, it should be a custom calculate script. Here's a sample one below. It assumes the fields are named "A1", "A2", ..."A23". You will have to change the value of the "row" variable for each script, which is currently set to 2, meaning it should go in the A2 field. This really should be a function in a document-level JavaScript to it can be called by passing the row number or extracting it from the value of event.target.name, but it should get you started. Note that I didn't test it, so it might need some tweaking:
// Custom Calculation script for row 2
(function () {
// Row number of this field
var row = 2;
// Get the value of the A column field
var sVal = getField("A" + row).valueAsString;
var sVal2;
// Set this field value to "O/D" if blank
if (!sVal) {
event.value = "O/D";
return;
// Scan the previous rows to see if any match this value
for (var i = 1; i < row; i += 1) {
// Get the current row value
sVal2 = getField("A" + i).valueAsString;
// See if it matches
if (sVal2 === sVal) {
event.value = "Deobligate";
return;
// No match was found. so set this field value to "Obligate"
event.value = "Obligate"; -
Conflict in Form Distribution when 2 email exists
Hi,
I have a form that has a "Submit by email" but on the same form I have another button that says "submit suggestions by email". Everything works fine until I try to distribute the forms, it says that there is a conflict of URL or Email addresses. Is there a way for PDF to choose one over the other? THank you in advance!Is this in the wrong forum? The problem I am having is with Acrobat's Distribution feature.
