Recording VST during playback?

Good day guys,
This should be an easy one. I'm just struggling with it at present.
I'm using an Audiophile firewire card (latest drivers/firmware) with AA3. I've recorded a number of tracks from my external sequencer and all is good. Now, I want to record some lead tracks from my Korg Legacy VST. I recall with the older versions of AA I was able to do this with ease. I just needed to select 'monitor' in the record section and that was it. However, I find myself unable to do this now. It's as if the system won't allow me to use the ASIO drivers for both AA and the VST at the same time. Is there limitations in these situation? I am using Vista whereas before I was always using 2000 or XP.
Now lads, as I've said above, this could be something handy that I am just overlooking. Indeed, I hope this is the case. Anyway, I'm sure whatever it is it will be easy pickings for somebody else here.
So, into your hands I expectantly pass my problems
Regards,
Tony

It's as if the system won't allow me to use the ASIO drivers for both AA and the VST at the same time. Is there limitations in these situation?
There is an ASIO limitation that only lets you use one hardware device with any PC, yes. Since ASIO bypasses most of the OS, it would appear that it can only dig this tunnel to one place. Usually in these situations the thing to do is to use ASIO4ALL - which would let you use WDM hardware drivers with Audition's ASIO engine. Snag with that is that the latency will worsen somwhat, but that's rather better than the infinite latency you have at present! ASIO4ALL is free though, so it won't cost you anything to try this - just Google it, download it and you're good to go.

  • Multi-room DVR Issues: Unable to locate hub, interrupted recording, skipping during playback

    Hi Guys,
I was wonderng if you could help me.   I have been a FIOS customer for many years and have a multi-room HD DVR and 2 HD set-top boxes.   I have always had some problems during playback on some recordings where the picture and sound will skip, but over the last several months some new problems have appeared.  Frequently during playback of recorded shows the recording will stop playing and I will get a message on the screen "unable to locate hub".  I then have to power off the STB, reboot and when I go to the dvr option I have to refresh the devices before connecting to the dvr again.  If this happens while a show is recording then the recording stops and then restarts causing the show to be split into 2 recordings.  Sometimes I get a message "You have reached maximum playback on DVR".  This really frustrating and I would like these issues resolved.   I have the older HD dvr, 1 new hd set-top box, and 1 old hd stb.   The playback issues happen on both hd stbs.  We don't usually watch shows on the dvr itself so I am not sure how it performs during playback.  1 other note that might help troubleshooting is that I can't seem to display the IMG in full screen on the dvr.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Sincerely,
    Randy R.

You can only do 1 playback at a time UNLESS you are playing back from the DVR/HUB.  If you want to do 2 simultaneous play backs, one of them must be from the DVR.  I ran into this same message when my wife would watch a recorded program in one room and I would try to watch a recorded program in another room.  Fixed it by moving the DVR to one of the rooms where the conflict occured most often.  As for the "unable to locate hub" message.  This was a very common problem about a year ago, which was fixed with a software update. You need to check what version software is on all your boxes.

  • Audio dropping from recorded stream during playback

NOTE: I posted this same question on the Adobe Groups FMS
    Users page.
I am using Stream.play() on the server side to set up a hub
to switch between live streams and recorded streams. Basically, I
have a live video stream that we want to switch in a recorded
segment (flv) at the end of which we go back to the live stream.
Both the live stream and the recorded stream are at the same data
    rate.
I'm following the code samples from:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flashmediaserver/3.0/hpdocs/help.html?content=00000386.html
The problem I'm having is that the audio starts for the
recorded segment but goes silent after the first 2-3 seconds of
audio. This happens every time the clip is played. This clip plays
fine when linked to directly, without being part of the hub system
using Stream.play(). I have tried this with several recorded
    segments with the same result.
Has anyone seen this happen before?

Thanks for the suggestion Jody. Would this work in 3.0.3 as I
am not on 3.5 yet? I tried adding this to the fms.ini for 3.0.3 and
nothing changed. It may also be worth noting that I am having the
issue even with only a single user connected.
When the client sends a message to the server to play my
"demo" the server calls the following lines of code:
    application.mainStream = Stream.get("foo");
    application.mainStream.play("shortDemo", 0, -1, false,
    application.myVODConn);
    application.mainStream.play("liveEncoderVideo", -1, -1,
    false);
This should switch from the currently playing
"liveEncoderVideo" stream to the "shortDemo" and then back.
The myVODConn is getting set up right as I can see the demo
but again the audio just drops out after 2-3 secs. I also tried to
use the AdobeBand sample files and I get the same thing.

  • Synchronizing streams during playback

Hi does anyone know of a good way to synchronize separate
    (video/audio) recorded streams during playback?
For example takea video conferencing app; I can can record
each stream separately but during playback is there anything i can
do force them to be synchronized? From reading around, it seems
like the answer is "No".. Any thoughts?

  • No sound while recording but I can hear during playback

I plugged my iRig HD in my macbook air (Yosemite), opened garage band and configure input output settings. While I was recording couldn't hear any sound but during playback I could hear clearly everything. I haven't got any problem on Amplitube 3. Is there any different settings on garage band?

What if I want to use mac's speakers or an external speaker
As long, as are not recording using the internal microphone it should work to change the output in the GarageBand Preferences > Audio to System Settings and to set the System Preferences > Audio > Output to the internal speakers or the internal output , if you have speakers plugged in instead of your headset.

  • CPU overload during playback and record

This happens here and there but is not a consistent problem, and for that reason I feel that it can be corrected. Out of the blue, during playback or record, all of the sudden my CPU meter will start spiking and the audio will start getting interrupted until it just gives up and I get a dialogue box saying overload. I always make sure all other applications are closed to avoid this. What else can I do?

    1. Have an empty Audio Track selected during playback (= no need for Logic to wait for realtime MIDI input)
    2. Increase Audio Buffer
    3. Turn off "safety" buffer. "safety" is very misunderstandig... In fact, it makes things unsafer in terms of playback stability. (BTW: Did anyone find out which "safety" is meant, anyway?)
    4. Turn off Airport, go offline, turn off antivirus and such things. Just let Logic be the only big application running.
    5. After some playbacks, the caches should provide enough information so that Logic runs more smooth than with the first playback. So - if you need Logic as live tool, let it play the project once or twice before.

  • How can I save the modulation I apply to an instrument during recording such that it remains during playback?

How can I save the modulation I apply to an instrument during recording such that it remains during playback? For example, I apply modulation #8 during recording, but when I play the track back the modulation is not incorporated.

    Hi Vlad,
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to programmatically read the voltage output to the drive, as the voltage is all determined internally by the controller circuitry on the board. Depending on the controller though, you may be able to physically route the output terminal to a spare analog input channel and read in the voltage that way. This example Analog Input with 73xx Motion Card shows you how to program LabVIEW to do this.

  • I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.

I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.  I tried different input and output settings but it didn't help.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hear your microphone or instrument as you play and record (monitoring)
You can hear, or monitor, input from an instrument or microphone in GarageBand while you play and record. When you turn on monitoring for a track, you hear the musical instrument or microphone connected to the track’s input. Monitoring lets you hear yourself play so that you can hear the part you want to record as well as the rest of the project.
You can turn on monitoring for a Real Instrument track or Electric Guitartrack from the track’s header, or in the Track Info pane. Electric Guitar tracks always show their monitoring buttons, and you can show monitoring buttons for Real Instrument tracks using a menu command. You can use monitoring with feedback protection to avoid feedback while you play.
    Hide
To turn on monitoring in the track header:
Choose Track > “Show Monitoring for Real Instrument Tracks.”Monitor buttons appear in the headers of Real Instrument tracks. On tracks with monitoring turned on, the button lights yellow.
Click the Monitor button in the header of the track you want to use.
HideTo turn on monitoring in the Track Info pane:
Double-click the header of the Real Instrument or Electric Guitar track you want to turn on monitoring for.The Track Info pane opens.
From the Monitor pop-up menu, choose one of the following:
Choose Off to turn off monitoring. You can hear your instrument only while you record.
Choose On to turn on monitoring and protect against feedback.
Choose On (no feedback protection) to turn on monitoring without feedback protection. If the input level is too high, it may cause feedback (especially if you are using a microphone and listening to your project through your computer speakers).
For an Electric Guitar track, you can view the Monitor pop-up menu by clicking Edit, and then clicking the back side of the amp. The Monitor pop-up menu appears with the input controls below the stage.
You should usually turn off monitoring when you are not playing or singing. When monitoring is turned on, your computer can pick up output from your speakers or monitors, causing unwanted feedback. Using headphones rather than speakers to listen to your projects can help eliminate feedback.
If you select your computer’s built-in microphone as the audio input, in the Audio/MIDI pane of GarageBand preferences, monitoring is turned off for all Electric Guitar tracks to avoid unwanted noise.

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • Short cut when loading VST effect during playback with CS6

    Hi !
I'm a Audition CS6 user. I love this software, but I have a little problem.
During playback in multitrack session, when I'm loading a VST effect or even an internal Auditon effect, there is, every time at this moment, a short cut of the sound.
It's really boring and I didn't have this trouble with Audition 3.
I have the same problem when I want to group some tracks, at this moment, during playback, the same short cut, or mute.
I don't find any answer in the settings, have you got a solution ?
thank you in advance and Merry Xmas !

I don't think that it is intended that you should add effects or change the grouping whilst playback is on going. Audition has to adjust all the tracks for any delay that might be required to keep all the tracks synchronised. I suspect that it has to reload the audio buffers to take account of this which causes a brief break or mute whilst it does so. So load up any effects that you might use into the Effects Rack before you start playback. You can then switch the effects in and out of circuit hopefully without any breaks since I believe that any effects in the rack are catered for even if not active.

  • New problem - bad cracks during playback

I'm getting back cracks and crackling during playback despite the fact that there is no obvious cause. The cracks happen when I use any effect (though my gut feeling tells me this isn't the underlying problem). I'm using UAD vst plugins but and Adobe effects but I am no where near being maxxed out, only using around 50-60% of my vst power. The cracks happen even when I use Audition's Studio Reverb or graphic eq.only, no vst.
It sounds like a latency type of cracking or the type of cracking that happens when my plugins are maxxed out (nearly 100% on my meter) but as I said, that's not it (although it goes away when I remove all effects, even Audition effects).
The strange thing is I am only working with 3 tracks!!!...2 guitars and vocal. I have many sessions with full band, easily 2 dozen tracks and not had this problem before. But with only 3 tracks...something is screwy.
When I change the latency the cracking gets worse (currently it's at 1.5 seconds).
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this??? My software is up to date and my system is virus checked. I'm also an experienced Audition user (years).
    Thanks for any ideas.

Hey guys, my audio computer just developed this crackling on playback about 2 weeks ago.
On mastered out audio files, the crackle is not there, but on playback on new projects (started over the last 2 weeks) there is crackle in the playback on all tracks (I get crackling on playback on my speakers and on my headphones).  Even individually, if I mute certain tracks.
I found some weird points when playing with new projects:
-I shut down the computer, and started Audition 2.0 again.  I started a new project @ 48000 Htz and 32 bit sampling.  And there was NO CRACKLING on playback (on speakers, on headphones, on mastered test audio files)
-I went back to my problem projects with crackling playback and, yup, my playback had crackling on them
-I mastered out my origional raw audio tracks (from the crackling project timeline) and put them on my new project timeline, and NO CRACKLING DURING PLAYBACK.... hmmmmmmm.
I have no idea why it's doing this.
But if your project is having playback issues.  Try a full shutdown/reboot, open a new project and do a test record to see if there is crackle.  If no crackle on playback, then go back to your crackling project and master out and re-import your raw audio tracks to your new project timeline
If you guys have found another work-around, or a complete fix, post up and lemme know.

  • Cracking during playback in 3.0

Hi, first let me say that I have done a lot of research trying to fix this, to no avail.
    Here's the issue:
When playing back a multitrack, there is random crackling in the audio.  It's not recorded into the audio files themselves (you can see in the waveform), but when I export, some of the cracks and pops are actually there.
    Also...
I have 4 gigs of ram, 2.66 ghz duo core processor, and a 500 gb 7200 rpm hard drive.  When watching the task manager while audio is playing (after closing all memory hogs, Itunes, internet, etc) I can see audition jump around from 0-12 CPU usage (while every other program is 0-2), and all of the crackling coincides with these spikes.
    What I'm using:
    Windows Vista
    Presonus Firepod
    Audition 3.0
Sound Card - SoundBlaster X-FI Fatality
The crackling playback occurs no matter what drivers I use - AA 3.0 sound, ASIO4ALL, and even the firepod ones will crackle when I listen to playback through the headphone slot.
I also never had this problem when I ran Audition 1.5 on Windows XP, but I really don't want to downgrade.  I have tried recording to my external hard drive, and it seems to do the same thing.
I attached a JPEG showing what my CPU usage looks like during playback.
I will kiss you if you can solve this problem, Audition 3.0 is soooooooo much nicer than 1.5!
Also interesting to note - I just installed 1.5 on this computer and ran it in compatability mode.  I cannot record in 1.5 (due to some thing being out of date) but the playback it flawless.  I can do all sorts of things with the processes and no static or popping during playback.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the help.  Buttttt I really wanted to record something that day and ended up reformatting and going back to XP.  Ever since then, absolutely no problems at all.
    To answer your responses though:
I tried looking for buffer size in the hardware options, but did not even see it.  I did increase the cache size (if that's the same thing, not sure) considerably, but the problem persisted.
Yes, even during edit view I would get some crackling, though not as much.
The interesting thing is I didn't even have any effects applied!  I had 2 dry tracks that both would crackle upon playback.  During recording, I would also get the skips in the audio.  It was awful.
Anyways, thanks a lot, some really good advice here so I will stick around.  I'd rather downgrade the OS and get the benefits of the real time effects editing that's available in 3.0.  It must have just been a problem with audio drivers and the OS?

  • Actions which include Set Reference Pt via Transform Panel failing consistently during playback

The title pretty much says it all. I have two different Windows XP machines, both got upgraded to CS 6 (the x.0.0 release, the Release Notes for the x.0.1 don't directly address this, but if this topic pulls up blank, I may go that route... it requires running an approval gauntlet via IT, otherwise I'd already have done it).
    Repeatable problem is this:
    0. Create and select an object. Even a basic rectangle will do.
    1. Creat a new Action.
    2. Begin recording.
    3. In the Transform Panel, specify a new Reference Point that isn't the lower right (if your machines are like mine, you will get a "double hit" of the same Action step, no matter how gently you click on the new Reference Point). I say "not the lower right" for a reason in a second.
    4. Feel free to make a couple other numeric transforms in the Transform Panel. I tried adjusting Width and Height.
    5. Stop recording.
    6. Undo back to the original state (though I suppose it isn't necessary to deomnstrate the point)
    7. Run the Action.
First thing, the Set Reference Point seems to be utterly ignored, *or* sometimes it sets to the lower right and stays stuck there. I made one Action that was just a series of moving the Reference Point around a rectangle clockwise. The Action failed after the first Set and then stayed locked on the lower right for no discernible reason.
In an attempt to revisit some old Actions that were working without fail under 5.5, I loaded those. For those imported Actions, every time playback hit a step calling for a "Transform Panel," it would return an error dialog "The object "Transform Panel" is not currently available."
What in the blue blazes is going on here? Needless to say, this is taking a wrecking ball to our dozen mission-critical Action Sets, which all rely upon setting transforms to fit particular spaces automatically, precisely and consistently, and which, I might add, worked fine under 5.5.
On the positive side, the bug where movement of objects by their X,Y coordinates via the Transform Panel during Playback seems to be fixed. So, I guess there's that.
    Help?
P.S. Addendum: if anyone on CS6 (16.0.0 and/or 16.0.1) can at least run through the test case above and either confirm or deny that I am crazy to be witnessing this, that would be helpful, too.

    I FIXED IT!!!
How? I made a simple Action that just recorded my changing the reference point around an object clockwise, saved the Action, then cracked it open in a text editor (Wordpad, in my case).
Most of the items aren't terribly useful (for instance, Adobe, why are dialog texts in machine code rather than human-readable strings? That's be darn handy), BUT at the end of each step of the Action (called Events), I noticed that there was a variable being set to "8" every time. Yes, there are 9 possible reference points, but you need to think like a programmer/computer here. Yep, the first point isn't "1," it's "0." So, counting left-to-right, top-to-bottom gives you...
    0 = Top Left
    1 = Top Middle
    7 = Bottom Middle
    8 = Bottom Right
So it isn't the playback that's at fault, it's THE ACTION RECORDER getting it wrong. I changed that last "8" variable to a "1" and brought it back into Illustrator and ta-da! My reference point gets accurately set at the Top Middle and proceeds from there! YAY! HAPPY DANCE!
    PS Adobe, YOU'RE WELCOME.

  • Some fields in ADF application are responding during playback

    Hi All,
I'm facing some issues when playbacks the script which was recorded ADF application. Mainly 3 fields are showing this abnormal behavior. For combo-box `adf.table(..., .....).rowSelect(3);` is used to select value, but it's not working during playback. For date field the date picker I used is not working during playback. One Text field is also showing some issue. Value of text field is not get set during playback and it leaves it blank and passes the run. There are also other fields, including many Text fields, but all of them are working except the 3 above mentioned..
Please help me, if any one knows solution for this. Even if you don't know solution please share your ideas.

The triangle-like icon allows me turn metronome on and off for recording, but I cannot get it to turn off during playback if I use it during recording.  The Dial in the upper right allows me to turn off the "Count-In," and change the sound, but no option to turn off during playback.  How do I fix this?

The triangle-like icon allows me turn metronome on and off for recording, but I cannot get it to turn off during playback if I use it during recording.
That should not be like this. Even if I enable the metronome during recording,I can turn it off again afterwards, before I start playback.
Have you tried to reset GarageBand? You can do so in the Settings.
Settings > GarageBand, then enable the switch "reset GarageBAnd".
