Acrobat Standard XI, serializing a for inclusion of license in layer within unidesk

We are a volume license holder for Adobe Acrobat. We are currently using a virtual desktop environment through unidesk, pushing virtual desktop views to thin clients.
We have created a script as a .bat file which uses the adobe_prtk command line tool to serialize, accept EULA, suppress registration, and suppress update checks. Please see below for the commands we run in the .bat:
c:\Adobe_Install_Tools\adobe_prtk.exe --tool=Serialize --leid=V6{}AcrobatStd-AS2-Win-GM --serial=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
c:\Adobe_Install_Tools\adobe_prtk.exe --tool=EULA --leid=V6{}AcrobatStd-AS2-Win-GM --eulasuppress --eulaaccept --locale=en_US c:\Adobe_Install_Tools\adobe_prtk.exe --tool=Register --leid=V6{}AcrobatStd-AS2-Win-GM --regsuppress=ss
c:\Adobe_Install_Tools\adobe_prtk.exe --tool=UpdateSuppress --leid=V6{}AcrobatStd-AS2-Win-GM
(I have ommitted our serial number for the purposes of this post)
This .bat file is run whenever a new desktop is created and given the acrobat program. When the new desktop is built and run for the first time, the .bat file runs and each command returns a "return code 0" for all four, which should indicate each was successful.
When an end user opens acrobat for the first time, the serial number entry window always appears. If the user clicks "quit", the window closes. Subsequently, the user is not prompted for the serial number again.
We would like to find a way to prevent the "enter serial number" window from appearing when the application is run for the first time so as to avoid cunfusion and dissatisfaction within our user pool.

We ultimately abandoned the command line adobe_prtk.exe via a .bat file method and switched to the Customization Wizard to modify the installer. We ran our acrobat install .exe which unpacked files into a directory. From there we could use the msi in the directory within the wizard to change the optons we wanted. We did an install on the setup machine in unidesk, opened the software on the install machine, then used this for our layer image...
When I deployed the new adobe unidesk layer created on to a thin client machine, we were able to get into the software with no updates/prompts/registration/etc.
I will note, this was BETTER than the command line tool. When we used the command line to suppress updates, the option to "check for updates" still appeared in the program as an option the end user was able to select. The application would not look for updates on its own, but the user could. After using the wizard to make the changes, the "check for updates" option is simply removed from the menu all together.
So if anyone else sees this thread and is attempting to do the same thing, skip the command line tool!

    Hi riffpizcy,
Error 148:3 is a licensing error.
Try following the steps mentioned in the KB: Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Windows
You can download Acrobat 9 Std. from: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/8d640488-4a92-4f7d-b50b-d8eb7f96bff8
You can upgrade from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat 11 Pro at $199 USD

  • Acrobat 9 - Remove Serial number for image?

    Hi all,
We are purchasing Dell PCs with OEM installations of Adobe Acrobat  Standard 9.  I am attempting to create an  image based on one of these machines, but I want to remove the Acrobat  Serial number, so when I push this image onto another machine, I can  enter the proper serial number for that machine.
I know you can go into the registry and change the serial number, so I  tried to just delete the value from there.  However, when I did this  and start up Acrobat, it runs through the installation and the previous  serial number is back in it's place.  I found the serial number listed  in a "Repair" key as well and when I delete it from there, I have the  same result, with the exception of the registry values for the serial  number remain blank.  Surprisingly, Acrobat works fine even though it  appears (at least in the registry) that there is no serial number  associated with it.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks!

    Can anyone help here?
I've downloaded the Adobe Customization Wizard and set the user name, company name, etc. and left the serial number blank.  When I attempt to run an unattended installation, it fails with a dialog box that simply says "error."
I changed to an interactive install to see if I could get any more information on when and where it was failing.  User and company name are filled in, as expected, but Serial Number is blank and I cannot advance without entering a Serial Number.  I assume this is also why the unattended installation is failing.
How can I install without a serial number, so that I will be prompted for that upon first launch?

  • Patch/Detour for Acrobat Standard/Professional 8/7 for Flash Vulnerability APSB09-10

Are Acrobat Standard or Professional version 8 or 7 vulnerable to the embedded Flash vulnerability in security bulletin APSB09-10?  Adobe posted a patche for Acrobat 9, but not versions 8 or 7.  The detour that Adobe put on their Product Security Incident Response Team blog does not appear to apply to Acrobat version 8 or 7 (there is no authplay.dll file to delete, rename, or remove access to). If Acrobat 8 or 7 are vulnerable, there is no patch, and the suggested detour does not work, how do we make Acrobat 8 and 7 secure.  (The cost to upgrade to version 9 is not reasonable just to get a security fix.)

How can we be sure of that? I have found nothing authoritative from Adobe. Their security bulletin is very explicit about the versions of Flash Player that are affected and pretty good about the versions of Adobe Reader, but there is no mention about vulnerable versions of Acrobat in the security bulletin or the PSIRT blog. Are we reading a lot between the lines based on no patch for Acrobat versions earlier than 9.x? I would not read the lack of a patch to mean that the older versions are not vulnerable. Is Adobe just expecting everyone to upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat? They can do that with Adobe Reader and Flash Player because they are free. But upgrading to the latest version of Adobe is not something that people will do just to fix a security vulnerability.
I'd really like an official statement from Adobe, perhaps even an update to their security bulletin, clarifying exactly which versions of Adobe are vulnerable and which need no patch/detour.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Serial Number Problem - 3 Separate Licenses

I own 3 separate licenses of Acrobat 9 Pro and have owned several licenses going clear back to Acrobat 6.  We have used them on the office computers and home or laptop just as the license authorizes.
Recently we had a problem of employees getting confused as to which license or Serial Number of 9 Pro was installed on which machine and apparently the number of authorized installs was exceeded.   The solution to that was to go around and try to determine which SN was installed on which computer.
With all prior versions, this was an easy task.  You simply clicked on the Help tab and selected the About option and it gave you a screen that showed the SN of the license installed on that computer.   That way you could keep straight which was installed on which, and you could that way monitor employees so that the authorized number of installs were not exceeded and that deactivation had been done properly.  We had a new computer we needed to install 9 Pro on but we needed to know the SN on the old machine in order to make sure we had the deactivation done properly.
I was taken by surprise to discover that this method of determining the installed SN would not work on 9 Pro.  The "About" screen showed no SN. It showed patent information and credits, but no SN.  I checked this on all three licenses and it was the same on each one.
I called Tech Support and got into the support problem from Hell over what should be a simple issue.  I went through 4 separate techies and 5 different calls. After spending most of the day dealing with this issue, and a substantial loss of revenue.  I was given completely wrong information by 3 of the techies (called lies in my culture) and the 4th one claimed there was no possible way to determine the SN of the license running on any individual computer under 9 Pro.
I then called the sales department for volume licensing and was told that if I bought 3 licenses under the volume license program, I could have one serial number and get rid of the 3 SN problem.  I was told that I could get a refund on my 3 separate licenses and this would fix my problem.  I stated 3 times that I would buy the volume licenses only if I was guaranteed a refund for the 3 separate licenses.  Each time I was assured that would occur.  After the new sale for the volume licenses was completed, I was transferred to another department for the refunds and the refund request was refused!!!!   It took the rest of that day and part of the next to get a response back from the sales person that sold me the volume licenses and get that transaction cancelled.  They still charged my credit card and then it took several more days to get that reversed.  On top of all of that, Adobe keeps attempting to close my support incident claiming it is resolved when it most certainly is not.
I have been computing for over 20 years and I would have to say this was the worst tech support treatment I have ever experienced.  I am simply amazed and disgusted.  As a user of Acrobat over many years,  I am so mad that if 10 users wanted to file a class action suit against Adobe, I might do it for nothing.
Can anyone tell me if there is any way to determine the SN of the license of 9 Pro that is running on a computer?  If not, how else can you keep straight which install is on which computer and which needs to be deactivated when you replace the computer or try to move it to another?
This would seem to me to be a huge problem and I am extremely surprised that Adobe seems to simply be ignoring it and that the tech support people are telling fibs.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Sorry that you got such a hassle. Try this. I don't have Acrobat 9 per se, but I have the TCS2 and found the following.
Run Regedit (all the serious warning apply here. Look but don't touch).
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHNINE->SOFTWARE->Adobe->Repair->Adobe Acrobat->9.0->IOD Look under the entry under SERIAL.
Maybe it works maybe it doesn't. But it might help.

  • Just installed Acrobat Standard X but when I open a document, it crashes within a few seconds.

I open the document and then it's about 15-30 seconds it just closes without warning.

But what is the Acrobat X version?  If less than 10.1.12, you should try to update to that version.
If that does not help, I suggest that you ask in the appropriate Acrobat forum.

  • Missing Serial Numbers for CS4 COmponents & Acrobat X Pro

    Greetings!
I installed CS5.5 on my 32-bit system, which means I had to install the included "complimentary" CS4 copies of After Effects & Premiere Pro.  As stated in one of the Adobe troubleshooting sections I read, the CS4 components require a separate CS4 serial number.  As also stated in that same section, Acrobat and CS products have different serial numbers.  Unfortunately, I was only given one serial number, and that one was for CS5.5.  See image below for related screenshot collage.
The serial number has been intentionally rendered unreadable for obvious reasons, but it's sufficient to show that there's only one serial number associated with my products.  I need serial numbers for the 32-bit CS4 components and for Acrobat X Pro.  How do I get them?  I tried chatting with an Adobe support agent a couple weeks ago, and he told me he couldn't help me.  He said I needed to get the serial numbers from the company that provided me with the CS5.5 serial number (Identit-E, who evidently gets involved with providing serial numbers for validated student license purchases).  They said they couldn't help me, and that I had to get with Adobe!  So I'm being run around in circles with nobody taking responsibility!  And when I tried to follow instructions and a link that I thought MIGHT give me some answers (on this page:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/517/cpsid_51791.html)...
"In North America: If you're a student or educator, look in the Adobe Student Licensing website"
...I got a warning from my browser that it's an untrusted site:
I'm not into taking that kind of risk.
So I've done about all I can think to do, including contacting the actual reseller who sold me the software (no word from them yet).  Nobody's claiming responsibility, and they're pointing at each other.  That leaves me in the middle with no answers and only partially working, very expensive software!
If there are any ideas from folks on this forum, I'm all ears!
    Thanks!
    Scott

  • Acrobat Pro Trial wiped out my licensed version of Acrobat Standard

I recently wanted to convert a PDF back to Microsoft Word because I could not find my original Word file. I thought Acrobat Standard would do it, but apparently not. Online research told me that I could download an Acrobat Pro Trial license, which can convert PDFs back to Word. It worked great but when my trial license expired, I discovered it's REALLY expensive to buy the Pro License - even to upgrade from Standard.
NOW I just want to go back to Acrobat Standard, but the Pro Trial uninstalled my licensed version of Standard and it's gone! My licensed version came preinstalled on my new laptop from Sony as an Adobe bundle. I have no physical disks or my license number.
What a mess! How can I go back to what I had prior to my Trial?

You will need to contact Sony, if they didn't include disk and serial number with the computer, and if you didn't keep a suitable backup. What would Sony expect you to do if the hard drive failed and had to be replaced, for example?

  • Download Acrobat Standard XI

I am getting an error when I download Acrobat Standard XI, it asks for a related product serial number. If I enter the serial number from the online purchase it states it is not valid with the product selected, in the product drop down there is no Acrobat Standard XI.........

it sounds like you downloaded an upgrade which is prompting you for the serial number of the qualifying product.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard Installation Manual

I am trying to do something very simple: Find an installation manual for Acobe Acrobat Standard.
When I go to the Adobe site, here is what I'm trying to do:
Go to Support & Learning -> I Need Help -> Products
    Choose Acrobat
    Click "Acrobat X Standard Help"
Click "Getting Started and Tutorials" (takes me to: http://www.adobe.com/support/acrobat/gettingstarted/)
Click "Downloading, installing, and setting up" (takes me to http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite.html)
Click Acrobat X Pro | Help (takes me to http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/index.html)
Click "Getting Started and Tutorials" (takes me to: http://www.adobe.com/support/acrobat/gettingstarted/)
At this point, Step 7 has taken me back to Step 4.
WHERE IN GODS NAME IS AN INSTALLATION MANUAL???
The Adobe site literally takes me around in circles.

This is for a large IT department, and for traceability we need to show that instructions were followed, as provided by the manufacturer/publisher. While I agree that it is "self evident" for the most part, we need to have documentation attesting to decisions such as making Acrobat Standard the default application for users -- what does this mean? Is this for the local user, or is it for all users on the machine? If Acrobat Standard is the default for ".pdf" files, are there any other files (as identified by extension) that it opens by default?  What about PDFMaker/Office integration -- what options are available through the installer for controlling who has access to that? E.g. If we purchase a single license of Acrobat Standard, but it is a shared computer (with independent logins), how do we ensure we are not in violation of licensing?
These are things that should be addressed during installation.
But the fact that this is a paid product, and it doesn't have an installation manual, is the bicker pain in my side right now.

  • How do i install the internet downloaded Acrobat Standard on a second computer in my home?

I have had Acrobat Standard on my computer for quite some time now, but I just got a second computer and would like to install it on the second computer as well.  How do I do that?  I don't know where to begin even

Do you have your installation media?  You would want to begin by running the installer from your installation media.   If you purchased the download option then please see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1006208?tstart=0.

  • Uninstalled trial acrobat Pro and trying to install Acrobat Standard

A user had installed Acrobat Professional at a trial. She never got it to work. We now have the Acrobat Standard with serial number to install on her laptop.
It came up the Pro so I uninstalled the Professional. The I installed Standard but when it gets to the Acrobat screen it displays Acrobat Professional at the top of the screen.
I clicked ok through a couple of screens thinking it was confused and entered the Standard serial number that I have and it said invalid.
I had her reboot and I tried again with the same results.
What do I need to get rid of before the Standard install so it doesn't think it is Professional?  It is not showing up in the Programs Add/Remove list.
    Thanks.

uninstall all acrobat and readers (if any are installed), clean (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) and then reinstall.
