Acrobat XI Online Help

We are getting an "Online Help cannot be displayed." message when trying to access any of the Adobe Acrobat & Distiller menu options.  Through testing on our system we've narrowed down that this is happening because Adobe Acrobat XI is using an anonymous login to get to the Internet.  Is there anyway that we can configure this to use local system credentials instead of "anonymous"?

Not really.  It appears to be a limitation for Acrobat and Reader Help.  It's documented in a couple of places.

  • Acrobat X - Online help does not launch

I'm using Acrobat X, version 10.1.0 on Windows XP and IE 8.
When I click Help, the browser window opens, but the help does not load. How do I fix this?

Thanks - Note that I did try searching for a solution on the Internet and in the forums, but didn't find the article because I used "launch" instead of "display".
I'll have to use one of the workarounds in the article because I cannot open the help from the Acrobat Help menu.

Press F1 within the application to open the Help section.
If you have specific questions ask them in the Acrobat forums (this is the Reader forum).

  • Acrobat Distiller 11 "Online Help Content Cannot be displayed."

Any one else packaged Adobe Acrobat 11 and found that all of the help menus display "Online Help Content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet."?  The problem is for Acrobat and Distiller, Adobe Forms Central is fine.
Ideally there'd be a way just to make the application be able to access the adobe help on the Internet.  I tried adding the FeatureState registry key as we are behind an authenticating proxy.  This made no difference.
As this didn't seem possible I've configured Acrobat to hide the affected menues and created a new menu which opens the Acrobat_ref.pdf - so Acrobat is now ok.  However, I can't find the Distiller pdfs, i.e. "distiller parameters guide" and "pdfmark guide".  Also I am unsure how you would configure Distiller to point to these on the local machine.  I've used the Adobe Customization Wizard to create the package.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Error "Online Help content cannot be displayed" | Acrobat XI

    Hi,
I receive the error message "Online Help content cannot be displayed" in Adobe Reader/Acrobat XI when I try to open it.
For Version 10.1.4 there is a Regestry fix: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-online-help-content-cannot.html
Is there a similar solution for Adobe Reader/Acrobat XI?
I tried to replace the Version Number already, but there is no change.
Additional question: Are there still problems with the Proxy Server in Adobe Reader/Acrobat XI?
Thanks you for your help in advance.
    Regards,
    Dirk

  • How to use online help instead of local help files?

I know that if I am looking for help in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I can hit F1 or go to Help -> Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Help...
However, I do not like that doing that sends me to the limited help files that are stored on my local drive.  I would like that link to default to the online help.
Is there any way to do that?
The real reason I want to do this is because I use Mozilla Firefox and tightly control the cookies that sites save on my computer. For sites that I trust, I simply add them to the whitelist. However, I am unable to add file:///C:etc.etc. to my whitelist, so I have to approve 5-8 cookies every time I go to another page within the help files. This is extremely annoying.
In regards to this local help default over internet help, Adobe has said:
The Help menu within the product opens local Help, a subset of the content available in online product Help. Because local Help is not as complete or up-to-date as online product Help, Adobe recommends that you use the PDF version of product Help if you want to stay off-line.
But what if I don't want to use the "subset of the content available in online product Help" and prefer to simply go to the online product Help just like every other Adobe CS4 product?

You could add a custom menu item to the Help menu that executes the following line of code:
    // Acrobat 9 Pro Help
    app.launchURL("http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/index.html");
See this tutorial for more information: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2006/add_custom_menu_items

  • I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI online, now having serial number trouble

I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI online. There was nothing to indicate that I was buying an upgrade. Now when I double-click the icon on my desktop I get the message: 'serial numbe you provided is valid but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer' How do I fix this problem?

I have now retraced my steps in purchasing and see that I have accidently bought an upgrade. 1 out of 10 for Adobe for clarity on their website and 0 out of 10 for providing useful help. I've spent hours trying to find help that I didn't have to pay for. Good luck with your problem. I'm off to buy a cheap product. I had thought it safer to buy from a reputable company but after navigating the maze of what is touted as their support, I no longer find Adobe a positive experience.

  • Cmd+M open online help instead of minimize in dock

    Hi,
At work we just change computers and now, for and unknown reason, when I do "command+M" in Acrobat 9 Pro with an open document, it opens the online help instead of minimizing the document in the dock. I don’t know if it changes something, but we have french acrobat (we had english one on our old computers).
This is actually pretty annoying and I hope one of you will be able to help me with that.
    Thanks!

No, there is no override and, actually, I forgot to mention something pretty weird. In the Acrobat's menu we can see shortcuts, and it is written that shortcut for help is F1 and shortcut for minimize is cmd+m... and as I said, when I do cmd+m or F1, it opens online help, and I didn't find a shortcut that minimize yet.
I just try it at home on my iMac. I also have Acrobat Pro french, and it does exactly the same thing. Cmd+m and F1 open online help, and no way to minmize with a shortcut.
Lol, maybe I'm just crazy? or my computers are.
    Sooo weird...

  • Where can i get Oracle9i online help CTL files?

I remembered there is online help in SQL*Plus when I used Oracle7. After exec $ORACLE_HOME/bin/helpins,we can type HELP command in SQL*Plus to get a online help, such as:
    SQL>help create table
I know $ORACLE_HOME/bin/helpins actually create HELP table in SYSTEM schema and load tree files (plshelp.ctl,plushelp.ctl,sqlhelp.ctl) in $ORALCE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help directory. However,in Oracle8i or later, there barely contain any useful commands help-line in that three load files. So I can't get new commands info for Oracle8&9i when I use SQL*Plus.
Who can tell me where can I get new version of those three load files? I really want them!
    Robin

    Note 47574.1 in MetaLink states:
    Problem:
Windows 95/NT: 'Can't find help files'. SQL*Plus Help is not available.
    Solution:
The HELP command has been removed from SQL*Plus version 3.3.X, SQL*Plus version 8.0.3 under Microsoft Windows 95/NT.
The on-line help for SQL*Plus can be viewed through Adobe Acrobat.

    =============
    1. help 디렉토리로 이동한다.
    % cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help
    2. SYSTEM user 로 SQL*Plus 에 Login 한다.
    % sqlplus system/<password>
    3. 해당 디렉토리의 "helptbl.sql" script 를 수행한다.
    SQL> @helptbl
해당 스크립트는 Help 라는 테이블을 생성하고 Public 으로 지정한다.
    4. SQL*Loader 로 필요한 Record 를 Help 테이블에 로딩한다..
    % sqlldr system/manager control=plushelp.ctl
    % sqlldr system/manager control=sqlhelp.ctl
    % sqlldr system/manager control=plshelp.ctl
    5. SYSTEM user 로 SQL*Plus 에 Login 한다.
    "helpindx.sql" script 를 수행한다.
    SQL> @helpindx
    % cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help
    % sqlplus system/<password>
    SQLPLUS>helpbld.sql
    SQLPLUS>helpus.sql

I personally don't like SQL Developer or TOAD, though perhaps I'm in a minority. I agree completely. Toad does a lot of things but many of are ill thought out, the most obvious is the default feature of displaying a result time after fetching the first screen of rows. This alone has led to hundreds of posting along the lines of, I have this query that returns 12 billion rows. In a stored procedure it takes days, but it completes in 12 milliseconds in TOAD?
The last I looked SQL Developer had that typical Java sluggishness on a Windows box, and I am still not interested in whether that is a Windows or Java problem. I just know that if I have to use Windows I tend to choose applications that are not written in Java if possible.
It also was unable to connect using OS authenticated accounts which effectively ruled it out as anything other than a toy as our development environment mandates it. I believe there may be a workaround, but there are always hints of waving a rubber chicken at it and frankly why bother at this stage.
PL/SQL Developer is by far the best.

    USELESS ONLINE HELP FACILITIES
For all the amazing productivity aids that APPLE offers the world I have to report that their online support service is worse than useless and has recently been the source of immense time wasting and irritation.
Incident 1. Since many months attempts to download new and updated APPs produced a response – Apple ID Disabled. I had no time to consult an APPLE Store due to work in distant lands. When I finally visited yesterday I was told that as my IPAD has been reported as stolen, and APPLE in its wisdom had blocked its usage! I am not sure how they became so misinformed and nobody every advised me while with a few swift moves APPLE could have located me by email address or SKYPE.
Incident 2. Once the above anomaly had been fixed I tried to down load a newspaper and diligently input my address, credit card number and personal data. Repeatedly I was advised that my Credit Card was invalid and my postal code was incorrect! Really!
I was left to guess that having moved from UK to the US I should have advised APPLE! Not being told of this requirement brought about a second visit to APPLE Store in the same day to waste both mine and their time with a routine anomaly. How parochial in the context of a globalized world!
In each case I tried to resolve the issues using online access to a help line and by calling by phone at the numbers on the APPLE Website. In each of four separate occasions I diligently went through the routine and  ended up with a message that thanked me for contacting Apple followed by a polite ‘Good Bye’!
In desperation I went to an Apple Store for the second time in a day as it is close to where I live when I am not working. On both occasions I was courteously attended to by Apple Staff.
However, my work is usually far away from the US and it is generally many thousands of miles to the nearest Apple Store therefore online help is viewed as imperative if one is to resolve issues away from home.
Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help? It would cost nothing in relative terms and might restore my high level of anti-APPLE sentiment that these two recent events have provoked.

Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help?
If that is your question, the answer is at the bottom right of this web page. It is clearly marked "Contact Us" and is the best way, really the only way, to contact Apple.
If there were a publicly posted email address for concerns such as yours, it would be quickly filled with spam in about three minutes, thereby becoming instantly useless to you and everyone else. Apple would need to change it hourly, if not more often. That is also the reason you ought not to post your name, location, and what appears to be your iPad's serial number on this publicly viewable website.
Apple does not respond here and I can find no other questions for your fellow Apple users to answer.
