Acronis True Image Frustration

I have a desktop computer running Windows XP Professional. My old hard drive is a WDC WD800JD. I have purchased and installed a new WDC WD5000AAKS hard drive. I am attempting to clone the old drive onto the new drive using the Acronis True Image WD Edition. I downloaded it recently and it is up to date.
I have now made several attempts to clone the old drive, all of which have failed. For the most part, I get past the point where I restart the computer and the Operation Progress window opens. At some point during "1 of 2 - Copying Partition" the process just freezes. I have let the computer run overnight but once it stops, it never goes any further. The mouse works, I can minimize the window or select the Cancell button. Although, cancell does not work.
I am totally stumped on what to do and quite frustrated with this software. I have tried shutting down as many programs as I can so nothing is running in the background. All my anti-virus programs are shut down. There is 9.64 Gb of free space on the old drive. Any thoughts?
If there is a better (free) cloning software out there, I will try it.

Hello,
I recommend you take a look at these links.
How to manually clone a disk with Acronis True Image WD Edition software
How to automatically clone a disk with Acronis True Image WD Edition software
Review the steps and try again. If you still have the same issue then I recommend you contact WD support.

  • Problems getting Acronis True Image Home 2010 to find my image files.

I have recently purchased this A505-S6005 laptop and it has been nothing but a pain in the pretty much ever since I got it. Recently I have tried to roll back to a previous system image I created with Acronis True Image Home 2010 but am unsuccessful everytime I make the attempt.
Everytime I try to recover from the previous image which I have saved on a external drive I get an error message "Cannot find any hard disk drives" upon startup of the Acronis recovery manager. I get this problem no matter which way I go around it either from the boot cd that I created or directly from Windows and the Acronis software.
I simply cannot restore from my image file no matter how hard i try to get it to work.
Does anyone else have these issues with Acronis True Image 2010?

  • Acronis True Image Backup/Restore

Had my 3000 K100 for about a month now - working fine.
Like many others, the one key restore feature, 20 GB "c" drive, hidden partitions all are a bit confusing to me.
I use Acronis True Image to create emergency boot disks, and have an external drive that I use to make an image of my c and d drives.  I do a full backup at least once a week.  So, I really don't have to rely on on the built in Lenovo restore features.
Is there a way to just "turn it off"?  Then I could make my c drive bigger - and not worry about how it would affect the one key restore features, base backups, etc.

  • Acronis True Image

I just received my x120e but I want to replace the hard drive, I am attempting to clone the factory drive as follows:
Using the clone tool in Acronis True Image, I have the source (factory) drive in my machine and the target drive in an external usb enclosure.  After finalizing the settings windows reboots to the clone screen where the progress is documented in text.
Everything appears to be going well until about 70% everytime I have attempted.  At this point the screen always turns off for some reason.
I'm not sure if the process is still continuing without the screen on or what, each time I have left it for a little while and then done a hard shutdown.  Then when I inspect the target drive it always has one small system partition and then the rest unallocated space.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?  Is there an easier way to clone the factory drive onto the new drive?
It is currently running right now and has gone to the black screen, I am going to let it run for an hour or so and see if it comes back.
    Thanks!

Me too.  In fact I would go as far to say that this point is mission critical.

  • Does restoring using Acronis True Image Home 2011 affects my Authorized Computer count?

Does restoring using Acronis True Image Home 2011 affects my Authorized Computer count?

Not that I know of. I have Acronis on all of my PCs, and have had to use a reinstall by the tib file. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Apple senses ip address, PC hardware configurations etc. to confirm a Authorized Computer Count. I had done a total reinstall of Windows 7, and iTunes still acknowledged that PC as being one of my Authorized PCs. So an Acronis restore should not be no problem. I also think that if a person maxes out on their 5 limit, that Apple allows you to be able to"re-set" it. Again, those who are more proficient here, can also confirm that.

  • Airport Extreme + Acronis True Image

I am trying to send a backup to my hard drive connected to the airport extreme by USB.
Acronis requires a user name and password to access the USB drive.
Anybody know what the username should be?
Anybody using this setup for windows?
Can anybody recommend a backup software that does work for them with this arrangement?

    Hello,
No specific recommendation as to disk imaging software, but I wrote a document on various backup strategies that you might find of interest:  Options for backing up your computer [PDF]
By the way, you might want to consider installing Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and all post-SP3 updates on the T20, just to get it up to date with all of the security and reliability updates Microsoft has made since SP2 was released.

  • Acronis True Image Notifications sending via SMTP

Sometime after 2/23 multiple devices stopped sending backup notifications due to some change at Verizon on the SMTP server. I am starting to believe it is related to phasing out of weaker SSL ciphers.I say this because I attempted to use gmail and received a blocked attempt due to an "older application". I overrode the gmail security settings and now it works but the thought of changing every backup job on every PC is just ridiculous. Other applications can send notifications. I cannot afford to upgrade 10+ licenses of Acronis because Verizon changed settings.
Anyone have ideas of how to work around or fix this?
Or why Verizon would make changes and not let anyone know?

  • P55 GD65 and True Image

Anyone else having issues with the new 1156 GD65 motherboard and true image?
Problems I am having are no USB keyboard nor mouse when booting from recovery CD. I tired other motherboard usb ports, updating bios from 1.0 to 1.3, turning legacy off, tied different versions of true image and CD's, different usb keyboards.
USB keyboard and mice work fine in bios and in the OS. Maybe some new setting in bios that needs toggled, not sure!

A few users reported similar problems with Acronis here:
    http://msi-forum.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=92266
However, the board in that thread is a P55-CD53.
At the moment it is unclear, if the problems are BIOS Related (which I rather doubt) or if they have to do with Acronis (newest hardware not fully supported yet).  I suggest you contact Acronis about your issues first.

  • Help! Need software to do "true" image backup of entire MAC HD/SSD from BOOTABLE CD?

I have just purchased a MacBook Air 2011.
Before I even boot up the laptop for the first time to setup the system, I want to do a "true" image backup of all of the partitions on my MacBook SSD.
For this model, I noticed that there are 2 partitions at stock: Macintosh HD and Recovery HD.
However, when I boot to Arconis True Image or Paragon Hard Disk Manager (both are Windows applications which I can start from a bootable CD), these programs sees 3 partitions: EFI Boot, Macintosh HD, and Recovery HD.
What I want is a program which I can BOOT to on a BOOTABLE CD and can then do a "true" image backup (either partition or sector-by-sector raw copy based) of the ENTIRE SSD to include all partitions and partitioning information.
What I am NOT looking for is a program that I need to launch within Mac OSX. This is because I want to image the disk to preserve the "stock" state of all the software on my MacBook. This way, after I restore from the backup in the future, the MacBook will appear as if it is being turned on for the first time, asking you to enter your setup info.
Is this possible at all? I have looked at Arconis True Image or Paragon Hard Disk Manager, but I am not confident that either is backing up the EFI based partitions correctly.
Lastly, once I have Boot Camp installed, I want to use the same program to create another "true" image backup.
    Help!!! What are your suggestions?

The EFI partiton is similar to the MBR on Windows systems.
It is the first thing that is accessed when a hard drive is
connected to the system.  It describes the basic disk layout
and if it is a bootable system disk, where the OS is located.
As such, it will be unique for every hard drive and is put there
when the hard drive is formatted.
If you want an "image" of your internal drive, get an external
drive and format it with GUID partitioning (Options... button
    in Partitioning tab).
Then boot a USB stick or disk made by the method Thomas
linked to, but open Disk Utility not install Lion.  Select the internal
volume, Macintosh HD unless you renamed it, and click the restore
tab.  If the internal volume is not present in the source field,
drag it there.  Then drag the external volume to the destination
field.  Make sure you have the right volume in the right field.
Then click Restore.  This will take a while so go get some coffee
    or a snack.
When this process is complete, you will have a copy of both
the Recovery HD and the system volume on the external drive.
As a bonus, you now have not only an external bootable Recovery HD
but also a bootable OSX, which you can use cloning software
to update to the contents of your internal drive.
You can verify this by openning Terminal when you reboot
    and typing
    diskutil list
which will list all mounted drives and their partitions
    including hidden ones.

  • Restore PSE 3 from a disc image to a re-formatted hard drive

I have Windows XP SP3 etc; Photoshop Elements 3.01; Acronis True Image 11; a 200GB hard drive (for images, audio, etc), a 250 GB hard drive for video storage and 500GB extl hard drive for backup of both hard drives. Some time ago I made a PSE backup onto the extl drive and a couple of incremental backups. I also have a disc image of both drives on the extl drive. With backup disc free space getting scarce I made a new full PSE backup and then deleted the original backups. To cure a number of conflict problems (due to multiple copies of Windows on both hard drives!) I re-formatted C drive and reinstalled the software, including PSE 3. I tried to restore my images and PSE catalog by means of PSE Restore from the PSE Backup; but after a while it asked me for discs/backups 2 and 3 - the ones I had deleted. All of the images are restored onto the C drive, but only a few tags - no Collection detail. Using Aconis I can mount the original disc image of the C drive, and the jpeg/CR2 and catalog psa files are in the usual place. However, file paths are somewhat different between the mounted copy of the C drive and the present actual C drive. Can anybody please advise me how to proceed from here? Is it just a case of using PSE 3 to move the catalog psa file from the Acronis mounted image into the C drive? The problem seems similar to the various threads that I've read on transferring to a new computer with PSE 7, but I am reluctant to "move" (as distinct from "copy") files from the Acronis image without some advice. Can anybody please offer some advice?

    Hi dj_paige
Thanks a lot for the answer to my problem.  Having resolved my problem with Acronis I then followed your instructions; the images and catalog with Collections etc are now fully restored.  Thanks again for your help.

  • How can I create system image of Win-7 only on drive with Win-7 (NTFS) and Win-ME (FAT-32) system partitions

I am trying to create a Windows 7 Image Backup on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit PC.
I have two bootable partitions on my hard drive. One is NTFS and contains the Win-7 system files.
The other is FAT-32 and contains a Windows-ME system.
When it comes to selecting the drives (partitions) for backing up, both are marked as System, and both are selected. Both are also "greyed out) - I cannot uncheck them.
Furthermore, the Windows-7 imaging utility supplied with Windows-7 returns an error saying it cannot image the disk because it contains a partition that is not NTFS.
How can I select and image ONLY the NTFS partition that contains the Win-7 system? That is what I want to do.

Any of the products listed below will backup the contents (all partitions) of your disk drive. The only limitation is that you must install the backup software in Windows 7. You will perform a "Disk and Partition" backup by manually selecting
the disk and all partitions (NTFS / FAT32) and the Master boot Record (MBR) on the drive. The destination / where the Image Backup will be stored should be an external USB drive. With a "Disk and Partition" backup you can restore any partition
to your existing drive or the entire backup (to the same disk drive or a new drive).

  • How do I restore bookmarks from an Acronis backup to a new disk?

I am building a new computer and having trouble with Firefox.
I am using a SSD C:\ drive and trying to put my programs on D:\ in order to save space on the SSD drive.
I made a backup using Acronis True Image Home of my entire C:\ drive.
I can't seem to get the bookmarks to restore from the backup. I have put it in the same folder but Firefox won't recognize it. I've tried renaming it to the same name as the folder created by Firefox and renaming the default but that doesn't work.
I had Firefox create a brand new profile and when I look in he folder I see a folder named startupCache and a couple of others.
In my old bookmarks folder I see six Cache files and a urlclassifier3.sqlite.
How can I get the old bookmarks into my new Firefox profile?

Yes, if I right click on a profile in the profile manager when I start Firefox it shows me the path to the profile. It is in the AppData\Roaming section.
For the sake of brevity I haven't typed in the full path name, just enough to let you know where I am putting them, I hope.
I put it there. No good.
I just looked at the profile I restored to the AppData\Local section ( it seems Firefox puts a copy there too ) and merged the one that showed the Cache folders which came from my backup disk with the profile of the same name in the Roaming section.
Still no go. No bookmarks showing up. If I click on the profile folder it shows the Cache files etc. are all there but it doesn't do anything.
This has gotten very aggravating. All files seem to be where they should be but it doesn't work.
