Activation FEES?????

Hi,
I am trying to find out where it says in my signed contract that I will be charged an activation fee. I just looked at my first bill and noticed the $35 fee per line. Had I known about the fee I would not be mad and would have been better prepared to pay my bill. However I have looked at all the information I have received and my signed contract and I do not see anywhere that I would be charged these fees. If someone can tell me where to find this information in my signed contract I would appreciate it. I had issues similar to this with Sprint which is why I left them. I hope this isn't going to happen all over again.

Activation Fees have been a part of the cell phone biz here in the US for decades. I have no idea where it is in the contract, but somewhere on the website there is a fine print footnote *$35 activation fee per line. All the big 4 carriers charge them, but they are often waived on corporate promos, third-party promos or even CSR waivers offered over the phone in settlement of an issue.  Also sales reps in stores can waive them in exchange for plan up-sells. Lacking any of these incentives, however, then yeah you're stuck with them.

  • Are Surcharges calculated on total bill amount? including activation fees

Hi, I am trying to find out what my surcharges will be on total $200 total plan cost for everything in arizona.  I got my first bill for $403 and that includes activation fees for 3 lines and also they charged me $42 in surcharges, what can i excpect in surcharges on a normal bill of $200?? if they base there surcharge % on my total bill including activation fees then my next bill at $200 should be much less then $42???

    Hello johnpadock,
TAXES, TAXES, TAXES! No one really likes taxes. I certainly don't but it's a way of life in the U.S. Almost any service that's provided are subject to taxes, including wireless service. As we all know, surcharges vary from state to state as well as city and even zip code. Below is an estimate of what you can expect to pay in surcharges in Maricopa county, which is in Phoenix Arizona. Keep in mind that the percentages below is an estimate and can be subject to change based on location.
Phoenix Transaction Privilege Surcharge on Telecommunication - 4.7%
Phoenix City Transaction Privilege/Gross Receipts Surcharge General Merchandise - 2%
Maricopa County Transaction Privilege Surcharge Telecommunication - .7%
Keep in mind that these are not all of the surcharges but merely a sample of what is factored into a monthly wireless bill. The percentage is calculated from the retail value of the products and services that are listed on the bill. For example, if you have Unlimited Talk & text with a $30 data package then the retail value would be $119.99. Keep in mind all VZW downloads, overages, equipment purchases that's billed to the account and late fees fall into the retail cost range. Simply, multiple the retail value by the percentage and the product.
If you would like a more detailed breakdown of the taxes in your specific area then I would encourage you to call our customer service number so we can provide the breakdown of the taxes in our county, city, and state. Our customer service department can be reached by calling *611 from your Verizon cell phone or 800-922-0204.
    Thank you...

  • Prepaid Plan Activation Fees

I recently attained an iPhone 4, and activated it on the $60/Month Smartphone plan. I remember having to pay a fee for activating that phone on that plan. I would like to change over to a DROID device, and am wondering if I would have to repay another activation fee to switch devices, yet retain the phone number. Can anybody help?

        Hello sdhartm,
I can absolutely help you with your activation fee question. Activation fees are only charged when you start new service. Changing phones on a number you already have will not incur an activation fee. You can complete the change to a different device on your own by logging on to My Verizon. Have a good afternoon.

  • AT&T vs Verizon Data Plan for iPad 2 - Activation Fees?

I heard that Verizon has a $35 activation fee everytime you activate the data plan. Is this true?
I am trying to get one where I can activate on a month-to-month basis as I please without paying an activation fee each time. I know that this is the case for AT&T. If Verizon has the activation fee, then this is an easy decision.
    Thanks!

I think the Verizon website is misleading. There is no mention of activation fees, but according to almost every reputable source the fee exists.
I wrote to Verizon customer service earlier in the week to find out from the source. I asked:
    "IF I purchase the Verizon 3G iPad2:
    1. Will I be able to activate/deactivate Verizon service as needed?
    2. Is there an activation fee? If so, how much?
    3. Is the activation fee charged each time service is activated and/or
deactivated? If not, when exactly is the fee charged?"
    They answered:
"You may disconnect the device at anytime. However, if the disconnect is after the 14-day Worry Free Guarantee return/exchange timeframe, then you are liable for an early termination fee. The early termination fee is prorated based on how much of the contract has been completed.
Yes, there is an activation fee for all new lines of service. In your case, the activation fee would be $35. This applies each time that a line activation is requested."
That reads to me as a $35 fee every time you activate service, be it every other month, every three months or whatever.
It may not be a problem for some, but this is a dealbreaker for me. I am getting the AT&T iPad2. It is unfortunate that one iPad cannot handle both services, as that would promote competition.

  • One-time activation fees for new customers and 'My Support Cases' hyperlink

    Team,
I'm a new customer to verizon and I have requested only for internet without any invisible charges. And the cutomer care provided a non-contractual internet plan only for 39.99 in addtion to the device charges and one-time activation fees can be waived since verizon kid is already placed in my apartment since verizon identiified our address as "Priority Service" address.
However first month bill come with $23.33 charge for one-time activation lue for next 2 monts. I really appreciate if the activation fees to be waived since I opted verizon instruments and installation is already done since it all readily available.
I tried to search for "My Support Cases" Link, i really frustrated and till now I'm not able to find this, not sure whether its hidden somewhere only for verizon customer care

You do not have any support cases, so you cannot see that board.  Just a friendly reminder, this is a forum where users help other users. • My first AT&T bill – activation fees

Having experienced activation problems, I decided to put out an activation-fee fight.
I attempted to throw my Apple consumer weight to AT&T via email to customer service. We'll see what happens.
My message to AT&T's customer service (see below) was not about the money; I hope they realize that.
"Just a short note to request a review of recent fees charged to my account.
In light of the activation delays experienced by a few iPhone owners, I am hoping AT&T will waive the one-time activation fee reflected on my first bill in consideration for the 17-hour wait endured during my activation process. While I do understand there can be a number of reasons for porting delays, some of them beyond AT&T's reach, I don't recall being informed of potential activation delays at the time I purchased my iPhone from one of your stores.
From AT&T, I expect the same type of mutually beneficial and long lasting relationship I have been able to develop with Apple, Inc. I am looking forward to continuing being part of this great partnership between AT&T and Apple, Inc."
I was a Sprint customer; Apple handed us (customers with other carriers) on a silver platter to AT&T. I have no doubt AT&T has gotten an earful from Apple during the last couple of weeks. However, I think it's important we communicate our issues directly to AT&T and not just through Apple's management.
An AT&T Online specialist has been assigned to my message. We’ll say what they have to say.

  • I am wondering if these jackals realize how much they screw people on these unnecessary "activation fees"?

I was promised by Best Buy there would be no activation fee on Feb 10 2015 at the Colorado Blvd location in Denver, CO. After several chats with no recourse, I called up the Customer Service line.
Louis, the rep, decides to secretly patch in the Best Buy Manager (Billy), who wasn't present when his lacky promised me no extra fees. The Best Buy guy decides to break into the conversation by combating what he thinks happened the day I was there.
I tell Louis, I am done speaking to you, let me have your supervisor. Ty, who promised to reprimand Louis for handling this situation so poorly promises me that the way his boss would want him to handle my situation would be to offer me 15 free minutes of talk time on my already unlimited plan. That was the best he would do.
It's amazing how a customer can commit to paying 120+ dollars per month for 2 lines for a two-year contract like me, but these jackals can't refund me the 40$ that I was scammed out of to keep a customer long term. I truly believe that the truly educated reps would figure out a way to let me keep my 40$ so that they could keep a customer long term. But, I guess that's why these desk jockeys are working the jobs that they are because in the end, I am just another angry Verizon customer to them.
My contract ends in November 2015. My relationship with this trash ends as well.

It appears to me you are an unhappy BEST BUY customer since they are the ones which promised you no activation fee. You should be trying to get the activation fee refunded by BEST BUY.
Occasionally, Verizon has a promotion where there is not activation fee, but even in these cases you are initially charged the activation fee and after 2-3 months of service it is credited back to your account. If you signed up for service during one of these periods, you should wait the requisite 2-3 months to see if you actually receive your activation fee credit.

  • Switching phones and activation fees

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new phone off e_bay (LG voyager vx10000) to replace my current phone. I realize I can switch and activate the new phone from the Verizon website but my question is.....when I activate my new phone will I still be able to use my old phone as a back-up? Also will I be charged an activation fee? I do not want to upgrade to smartphone or renew my contract. I am currently in a month-to-month contract and I would like to keep it that way.
I have done this process before but I never wanted to keep my old phone because it was always broke.Another thing I remember from when I done this in the past is Verizon asks you why you are switching your phone. Why do they ask this? Is it just like a poll type thing so they know why most people are switching phones? or is it to tell whether they need to charge you an activation fee? Does answering that poll (or whatever you want to call it) gonna affect whether I get charged an activation fee or if my old phone gets a bad esn or something like that? Also my reason for getting a new phone is because my old one is very out dated and want something a little more modern but no required data plan. My old phone still works good which is why I want to keep it as a back-up.
Hopefully you were able to follow along...I don't really want to call or go to the store I would rather activate online and soon.
I bolded the questions so it is easier to refer back to and find =)

There is no activation fee for activating a different phone on an existing line.  You only pay an activation fee when you start a new line of service.
As to the survey, I've never been prompted to answer any questions like that when switching phones.  The only reason you would not be able to use your old phone as a backup is if you report it to Verizon as lost or stolen, or fall behind on your payments while that phone is on your account.  If the phone is listed as lost, stolen, or tied to an unpaid account, it is placed on a blacklist and cannot be activated on any Verizon account.
You can either use the online tool, or just turn off your old phone and then dial *228 and choose option 1 from the new phone.

  • Pay As You Go Activation Fees?

Is there an activation fee when you start a new pay as you go plan? Does it matter if you buy the prepaid phone, like the LG Cosmos 3 or Samsung Intensity 3, here from the Verizon site or if you buy it new somewhere else?
What about second hand phones? Can those used with a pay as you go plan and would there be an activation fee?

Thank you. I'm glad I asked. I don't see activation fee mentioned on the prepaid phone page. Just mentions the price of the phones and the 3 different daily plans.
What about a second hand Verizon phone? Can I dial #22898 to activate and use on a pay as you go phone, without an activation fee?

  • IPad activation fees.

So last week I bought an apple iPad mini 2 from best buy. I decided I wanted to add a line for 10.00 to my existing account. So the lady told me well there is a 35.00 activation fee, but you'll get a 35.00 credit on your next billing cycle. So my question is, why even charge a fee if you refund it back? Honestly I'll never do it again. And it's actually cheaper to buy a phone or tablet or whatever you want for full price vs being in a contract. It hurts more but if your a technology guru you'll appreciate the freedom. It's not cool paying 191.00 bill this month to add a flipping tablet. Might have to sell it to pay the **** bill this month. Thanks Verizon for cramming this in this month. Perfect time after everyone is broke from the holidays.

        Magpul83,
Great choice on the iPad Mini! I certainly understand wanting to get clarification on the activation charge and credit after starting up service. When new service is initiated the activation fee is a system generated charge. If a special promotion is offered to waive it a special offline team will go into the accounts that qualify and remove the charge. This is the reason for the delay, I apologize for any inconvenience. I can understand how paying $191 after the holidays can be tough, so no worries you can certainly contact our Financial Service team at 866-266-1445 to setup a payment arrangement. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.

  • Activation fees for upgrading

I know I upgraded online, which is the only place they told me I could a "free phone", but at the end hit me with a new as of April fee of $30 for UPGRADING.  An upgrade fee? Really?  My free 2 year upgrade turned into a FEE upgrade! And since I ordered it online hopefully I actually like it because if I wanted to return it, it would be another $35 for a restocking fee!  As if it isn't bad enough you have to have a minimum $30 data plan on all the good phones now you have to charge us for being loyal customers and staying with the company!   It used to be if you had a monthly plan you got the better deals, now people are paying $40 a month for smartphones with unlimited everything! It doesn't seem fair to those of us who have been long time customers of Verizon.  Oh, I was also told there is "No one and no way to waive the $30 upgrade fee". Nice!

There are several existing threads (for example Re: $30 Upgrade Fee! ) going with this topic.  Did we need another one?

  • Install fee, one time fees, activation? , etc.

hello- can anybody please help me justify why if I upgrade my service from basic tv and blast internet service to a HD DRV with HD receievers ( 3)  in other rooms and higher internet speeds why I am goign to get install fees, one time fees, activation fees, etc. - the house is already wired by comcast adnd I have tv andn internet currently.  I can do the "install" just fine by myself ( I networked my office myself) - it is pretty much connect cable to "IN" on the back of receiver and then connect another cable from the "out" of receiver to "in" on the back of the TV -right. I mean what the heck justifies these fees. Just let me pick up the equipment and install it myself - then I dont have to take time off work waiting for a guy that if he knows what he is doing will take 20 minutes total to  "install" - his drive time is more than that probably. After several phone calls, chats, etc. I finally had to take the internet upgrade order to the very end to actually get a real price on the package and all the hidden ,one time activation, one time install fees - I could not get the sales poeple either on chat or over the phone to give me these fees at all. Then when I recalled and rechatted- they say I cant install myself and they cant waive the activation fees- why not?  What exactly is being activated ?- I have a current account.

Ohh - yes I did not mean in any way that there is any illegal stuff going on. AND yes they have every right to change what they want. However, in my area - they have a near monopoly- as Fios and others are not able to sell their products due to an arrangement with the Township- hmmm. Of coarse I cant actually find out what that arrangement is.  LOL My Beef is how much digging I had to do in order to actually find out the "real inital costs" of upgrading. and after doing that diggin I find out it is more than an entire month of the monthly fees of the upgraded services. In other word the sales poeple both online in chat and over the phone specifically failed to mention those initial costs and I find that dishonest. And NO, a successfull landlord would not charge you more compared to a new tenant,  they kill for tennts that pay their bills on time and take care of the place. Just ask anybody that owns rental properties. The idea that comcast has to recoop costs for inital setup is crazy as well. their stock is doing well, quearterly profits are up, a nice up sloped curve for the stock price in the past five years- so no they are not hurting in any way. But your right - they can do what ever they want. I started the thread to see if everybody just accepted their fees and how they hide the initial cost and did nothing or what. Based on the comments so far-  that is exactly what the sheep are doing. Just accepting it. I guess I am old fashion and feel a good longterm customer should get better treatment than an new one.

  • Why was I charged the activation fee?

I just joined Verizon this past weekend. We purchased 3 Samsung Galaxy S5's and The Edge 10gb plan. I was told by the CSR that there would not be any activation fees but I would see the sales tax of approx. $90 on my first bill. I was also told my bill would be $220 after discounts and taxes. I received my first bill at $493.10 yesterday.
#1 - Why was I charged the activation fees?
#2 - Why do your CSR's mislead your customers? I'm now being told that my monthly bill will be $267.00.
#3 - How can you allow the treatment of your customers to continue like this?

That so called tax seems kind of high? Activation fees are $35 not $30. There are upgrade fees of $30 for existing customers.
The first bill is pro rata of time used in advance and the days before the month in advance.
The cost of three devices on the edge plan are at least $25 a piece, which should be added in each month. So let's say your monthly plan costs are $160+tax+$75 for the three phones. Is $235+tax then it may be around $267 complete each month.
Never believe anything the service people tell you. Check your receipt and do not sign anything unless all you agree to is on it.
    Good Luck

  • AND BOOM, slapped with a upgrade fee and activation fee!

So, got two new iPhone 6's coming.  Walked in the store, and in 10 minutes we were out.  I was totally impressed with how fast it was.  I asked the sales guy to break down the cost, I got the 64gig phone, so he said "you will pay the full retail tax on the phone and the upgrade to the 64 gig, you will be trading your old phones so its a wash minus the tax and upgrade".  So in the parking lot I look over the banner length receipt.
    $35 for upgrade fee?
    $30 for an activation fee?
    Times two phones?
WHAT?  HUH?  Im upgrading to a new phone and committing to a new contract AND getting charged for it?  Im activating a new phone, but de-activating one and getting charged for it.  Maybe you should charge me a deactivation fee too.
Why didn't this guy disclose this extra $130 to me?
So for shiz and giggles, heres what I do.  I visit not one, but two verizon stores.  Im just browsing, looking at the pretty iPhones, I asks about upgrading, They both tell me Im just responsible for the taxes and and additional upgrades offered beyond a free phone.  I asked about an upgrade fee, both looked at me weird, we don't charge you to upgrade.  Receipt in hand, I say yes you do.  Small scene.
Enter manager 1.  Manger tells me they are trained to streamline the process and not confuse the customer with the additional fees and that like ATT and Tmobile they are following suit. He went on to tell me that most customers know about both these fees and I should have checked the final statement.
Enter Manager 2. Those fees can be waived based on status and promotions, can we check your account?  No, I'm done here.
WELL GUESS WHAT VERIZON.  When you are doing business on a tablet, and I POINT BLANK ask the sales guy to break it down, then he LIES about it to "not confuse me" , I don't get a choice do I?  Do I VERIZON?  DO I?  How do I?  this guy is holding a tablet, says sign here, I do, and he comes back with a receipt longer than well, its long.  I put my TRUST in you as my wireless carrier.  TRUST.
You are training you people to streamline the process without full disclosure on a tablet.  Sign here and your done?
    Coverage - great
    Tech support- great
Customer care/loyalty/service - really.  Ive been with you since the take over of LA Cellular.

56% discount. Yea me!  I got a 56% discount but got screwed out of $130 for it.  WooHoo.
Forever is a long time too, funny about forever, I saved my receipt from my last upgrade, no activation fee, forever must have just started in 2012?
Hey man, all I'm asking is for a transparent breakdown, you on the other hand go ahead and enjoy your cheese burger with out the cheese.  A roy-al.
You're burger analogy is wrong. You did get cheese. You're just annoyed you were charged extra for it a not knowing it would be extra.
Not sure where you're getting $130 from. if you had 2 lines  1 new and 1 upgrade that's $65 $35 for the activation fee on the new line and $30 for the upgrade fee on the other line. Also as I said you can avoid upgrade fees by paying full price. Verizon doesn't even have to offer discounted phones. Ina few years when all carriers go to the full price model and dump subsidies you'll be wishing for an upgrade fee.
I've been with Verizon since 2006 and they had activation fees back then.
It IS transparent. First it's on your receipt. Also our store has a sign right at the counter that CLEARLY states that upgrades are charged a $30 upgrade fee. And the phone price tags should have them too.

  • Taxes, Fees, and the bottom line?

So, I'm looking at the More Everything Plan with 4GB's which shows the monthly bill for 120.00 for one line. I'm also looking at the 3GB one for 110.00 a month. I know there are extra charges, taxes, and activation fees. Does anyone have one of these two plans and wouldn't mind telling me the bottom line?
(I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy s5 if that helps.)

I don't know. The billing cycle date is chosen at random. The first is always higher as you are paying for a partial billing and the full month cycle plus the activation/upgrade fee, taxes and regulatory fees.
