Add limits to step settings via TestStand API from LabVIEW

Dear LabVIEW and TestStand Community!
I'm trying to add FileGlobal Variables as limits to TestStand step NumericLimit programmatically, via LabVIEW, via TS API. I attach screenshot of the code, which I use (part of it - the module, which only sets values to low and high limit of the step), and also I attach, what I manage to get.
In TS, when I open sequence file, after running of the code, I can see in the description line of the test, that it accepted limits, which I set from LV - you can see it from the screenshot, it is marked with yellow. But in the Tab "Limits", there are still default numeric values, not FileGlobal Variables.
Could anyone explain, what doest it mean, and how to set up them correctly?
Thanks a lot in advance!

It's kind of sequence generator what I'm doing now...
Thank you very much for fast reply, but when I setup "UsexxxExpr" to true, it doesn't change the situation... Could you, please, check my attachment? Maybe, some mistake in syntax?

    Hi Prithivi,
you have to cast the Module Reference to LabVIEWModule Type before you can use it. Following document will be useful to you:

  • Opening TestStand Ref from LabView sometimes fails

I'm having an intermitten problem when opening a TestStand reference from LabView.  The error explaination just says, "LabVIEW:  (Hex 0x80004005) Unspecified error."  Attached is a little vi that can reproduce the problem when set to run continuously.
Any idea on how to fix this?  Thanks a lot.
Note that because of compatibility requirements I have to use TestStand 2.0 with LabView 7.1.

Attached is a screen shot of the error message.  This is one of at least 2 error messages.  I will get the other one when I can get time on the equipment.  Right now, I would like to get the error log (mentioned in the screen shot), but I can't find it.  Where should it be?
Unfortunately, the equipment is being shared and I haven't received time to debug it more.  But this is what I have seen.
Trying to Highlight Execution with breakpoints seemed to point the vi closing the reference to TestStand as the source of the error message.  Using the Simplified TestStand Operator Interface vi that came with TestStand, and some fake tests, we did not have this error.  Only when we use our customized OI with dynamic test sequence generation do we get the error.  This error doesn't occur with LabView 6.1.  So I think it may be another incompatibility between LV 7.1 and TS 2.0.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to validate Acquisition Window settings via C API?

    Hi,
I am controlling a Basler CameraLink camers connected to an NI PCIe-1429 framegrabber. I'm acquiring frames, settings ROIs etc just fine via the NI-IMAQ C API. However, I need to set the Acquisition Window programmatically and it appears the API does not validate the attributes I send it. Nor does there seem to be a straightforward way of validating this programmatically.
    Here's what I do:
    I use imgSetAttribute2() to define IMG_ATTR_ACQWINDOW_LEFT/TOP/WIDTH & HEIGHT.
It doesn't seem to matter what numbers I pass this function. If the values are valid (i.e. does not exceed the max resolution of the camera) all is well. If I use values, say width, that exceeds the camera resolution no error occurs.
When I use imgGetAttribute() on these attributes, I can retrieve also invalid values as set.
When I attempt to do anything else, like setting an ROI, it of course fails with the error:
"The requested acquisition window is invalid."
Now, I do see in MAX that it is capable of reading the max resolution of the camera (under the Acquisition Parameters tab).
    So, my question is:
How can I programmatically read the maximum image size through NI-IMAQ? How does MAX do it?
    Thanks,
    Per

    Hi Peka,
I know that MAX accesses the properties of a camera through the camera files. The camera files are located in a folder similar to:
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ\Data
You should be able to see certain attributes of your camera in these files.

  • Windows 8 and IE10 and 11 not accepting Proxy Settings via Group Policy from windows server 2003

    Hi
We are still running Windows Server 2003 with a Win7 and Win8 desktop environment. I can control Win7 IE9 settings,
But Win8 systems are running IE10. We have an internal proxy server.
Is there any way to force the proxy settings to the Win8/IE10 or 11 systems .
i have tried with The IE 10 .adm template and applied gpo,but does not have any proxy settings for ie10 and no changes were applies
please can anyone help me regarding this
i want to apply GPO from windows server 2003  to windows 8 ie10/11
    Thanks
    KNC

    Hi,
I agree with Zanderol24, we can install RSAT on a windows8 client, and then we can use Group Policy Management to manage group policy from the client.
For more information about RSAT, we can refer to the following link:
Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows Client and Windows Server (dsforum2wiki)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2202.remote-server-administration-tools-rsat-for-windows-client-and-windows-server-dsforum2wiki.aspx
For more detailed information about how to use GPP to configure the proxy setting for ie10 and ie11, we can refer to the following link:
How to configure Group Policy Preference settings for Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2898604
When we use GPPs you need to be aware of the F5-F8 keys:
Red / Green: GP Preferences doesn’t work even though the policy applied and after gpupdate \force
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/grouppolicy/archive/2008/10/13/red-green-gp-preferences-doesn-t-work-even-though-the-policy-applied-and-after-gpupdate-force.aspx
Besides, aside from using group policy to manage IE, IEAK can also be used to do this.
For IEAK, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • Write teststand globals from labview

    Hi all,
i just started using teststand and i am not too familiar with the program up to now.
What I want to do is, writing teststand station globals from a vi that i started asynchronously. What steps do i need to execute in teststand before starting the vi? A small example would also be great.
    thanks for your help.
    Walter

When using instruments in LV code modules, the code module itself presents a lock (default execution setting of LV VIs when not changed to reentrant execution).
So if the instrument is used in a single code module (which is used several times in your TS sequence(s)), there is nothing you have to worry about.
If the instrument is used in multiple (different) LV code modules (by passing its handle from module to module), you might require to include some locking.
I recommend you to provide the lock in TestStand. Use the Lock steptype in the synchronization palette to do so.

    I'm confused by your question:
Are you trying to transfer data from an Exe to TestStand and vice versa?
Or are you changing existing, working VIs into EXEs and then wondering why they won't behave the same?
Can you clarify some what your goal is?
There may be a better way to do what you want.

  • Running a teststand seqwunce from labview

    HI all
I want to build a user interface in Labview to execute number of sequences in teststand.
I already had a look at the examples shipped with TS. But in my case my UI will  be different that the default UI of teststand.
I want user to select number of sequences(at one time from list box or tree) and then when clicked on execute button , one by one each sequence should get executed.
For this I need provide seq file path to the invoke/property node before execution. But I am not able to find the current method/property for the same.
Can someone please help on this?

By this method you can do the following ( no need to change User interface code -- use the default one ) :
    1) A (Main GUI.vi) vi when executed calls a predfined master sequence to automatically open and run in TestStand.
    2) This predfined master sequence uses a vi to get sequences ( simulating user selected sequences)
3)The sequences selected are stored in a TestStand string array and run one by one.
4)TestStand is automatically closed in the end. ( no user intervention is required)
    Setup :
    1) Unzip the files and put it to c:\temp\LVUSER1 ( This path is hardcoded in vi and testsequences )
    2) Go to TestStand menu --> configure --> station options -> user manager and enable automatically login windows user
    3) Create a new user with windows credentials in TestStand using the user manager.( This is to avoid login popup)
4)Enable report in TestStand if you need a report.
    Run :
    Run the MAIN GUI.vi
    Changes if required :
    1) I have copied CVI user interface from C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2.1\UserInterfaces\Full-Featured ( This is because i tested this in )TS 4.2.1
Feel free to copy any of the user interfaces that you are familiar with from the respective TestStand folder.
    2) Correct the paths if required in vi and test sequences.
Hope this example will be helpful to you.

    Ravi

  • Using TestStand Engine API in LabVIEW

    Hi all,
I am currently working for a proejct where automation of testing is involved, For which NI LabVIEW and TestStand are used. My previous experience is in LabVIEW only and not in TestStand. In the current project I have to develop a UI where user can select the test sequences and execute them  automatically with a simple start command. So I thought to develop a UI in LabVIEW where I will call TestStand APIs in LabVIEW. I have a developed a code by calling the TestStand APIs and able to execute the sequence, but unable to generate the report. Does  any have stuff where in TestStand APIs are called in LabVIEW and test report is generated.
As I mentioned earlier I haven't worked much in TestStand. I have gone through the TestStand examples like Simple UI. But it didn't helped me much.
To put our project requirement in simple.
1.It should  have the UI to select the TestCases (Test Sequences) and an option to select the no.of times the test cases needd to be executed.
    2. It should generate the reports for all the test cases.
    3. UI should support localization.
Considering the above requirements I have thought to develop UI in LabVIEW calling the TestStand APIs. I also got to know that UI can be developed using TestStand, but I am not sure whether the above mentioned requirments can be fullfilled or not.
I am attaching the VI what I have developed in the LabVIEW with which I am able to execute the sequences, but unable to generate the report. Kindly look into the VI and let me know what need to be corrected to generate the report using the same VI.
    Thanks and Regards

If you want to generate a report you'll have to choose an entry point. You should have a look at the LabVIEW OI (operator Interface) shipped with TestStand

  • How can I set defaults in the TestStand's step settings Labview Advanced Settings tab to run a VI on a remote PC?

I am accessing a VI many times which is run on a remote PC.
When I click Step Settings, click on the Module tab, then click on the Labview Advanced Settings, there is are options for running a VI on a remote PC.
An annoyance is having to enter the remote host, remote VI path, port number and timeout settings every time I created a step to call the VI in the tests. These are a constant, or at least the rule by far rather than the exception. The TestStand step settings default is the VI does not run on a remote PC (unticked) and there are of course no IP addresses etc as defaults. So if I make a minor change to the tests such as the remote VI location, I have to manually change it is every occurrence of the VI being called. This is very time consuming and is prone to human error.
Is there a way I can preset these settings so that every time I call a Labview module, these defaults are invoked without me having to set them every time?
I guess a workaround is to have the VI run in a subsequence, so that the settings are made just once, but I would prefer not to have to do that.
    regards to the NI community,
    Dave

    Hi,
What you can do if you are using TS4.x is create your first step, then add it to the Template List. Then use the step from the template list when you require similar steps. See User Manual Chapter 3-6.

  • Logging settings via CF Admin API

    G'day
I've never needed to use the CF Administrator API before
    today. Strange
    but true.
So I'm taking a look at it. The implementation seems
    incomplete, unless
I'm missing something (entirely likely: the docs are a bit
    light-weight).
Is there any way to access the functionality of the "Log
    Files" page via
    the API?
Also, is there any way of persisting the authenticated
    administrator object
    (CFIDE.adminapi.administrator), rather than having to
    recreate it each... I
presume... session? I'd like to have the authentication done
    once at
application start-up, then persisted for subsequent usage by
    Admin
    API-calling code.
I'm tying to avoid storing the pwd in a template, and the
    nature of what I
want to do is such that I cannot have someone enter the pwd
    every time I
    need the code to run.
I was kind of expecting to ceeate an authentication object
    that I then pass
to methods needing authentication. Not having it session
    based (which
seems wrong for API-driven access to the Administrator).
Basically what I'm trying to do is to have a scheduled task
    archive a log
file (as per pressing the "Archive log file" button on the
    logfile listing)
should certain circumstances occur. I could mess around with
    CFFILE and
what not and DIY easily enough, but I was kind of expecting
    not to have to
    reinvent the wheel.
Any guidance, thoughts or observations welcomed.
    Cheers.
    Adam

    Hi,
If it were me, I'd write a remote proxy CFC that marshals
calls to the admin API. This way you could easily add a security
    layer to this proxy CFC.
Although the API way is probably cleanest, from an admin
point of view, you might prefer to work with exporting the
    configuration XML files?
This could avoid a) writing the AIR app and b) tracking when
a remote service isn't available to call the CFIDE API? This could
    cause you major headaches!
    Good luck.

  • Execution of TestStand-Sequence in LabVIEW via TS-API: Different Execution times for same sequence

    Hello Forum-Members,
I have a problem concerning the execution of an TestStand-Sequence in LabVIEW. I have created a VI that offers the ability to choose a TestStand-Sequence-File and then executes the sequence using the TestStand-API. The implementation is based on an example in C++-Application found following this link:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/NI-TestStand/Unreleased-references-using-engine-API-in-C/m-p/2927314#M46034
The implementation works quite solid in case the VI is executed the first time. The VI processes the chosen sequence in a acceptable duration.
But in case the execution is started a second time, the execution of the sequence takes ca. 30sec more than in the first case.
Until now I have not found a solution and hope someones got a hint concerning this problem...
I am using LabVIEW 2013 and TestStand 2013.
I have attached my own VI, a sample sequence with a small sample VI, so you can reproduce the problem.
    Kind regards,

    Hi Norbert,
    first thanks for your answer.
What would be a reasonable way to replace the "Execution.WaitForEndEx"? My first idea is to get the respective thread of the execution and use the "Thread.WaitForEnd".
    To clarify my problem:
The execution of the sequence itself takes longer time and so the execution of the calling VI. I have attached pictures of the log file of the first and second execution.
Further I don't get any dialog popups during the shutdown of TestStand. (I have activated the "ReportObjectLeaks" using the "DebugOptions") While developing the attached VI I've gotten several popups. But these popups disappeared after closing all references.
Maybe you have another hint how to locate the problem.
