Add moved /users to new install

Hello,
I moved my /users directory using the 'Advanced Options' under Accounts in System Prefs to another drive.  My boot drive is simply for apps and only maintains an 'admin' user account for recoverability purposes.  My issue is that I recently installed a fresh image of Snow Leopard on the boot drive and am having a tough time adding that account that exists on another drive (that was created via a prior System) back to my newly installed system.
Did I have to 'import' that user partition on installation setup (as asked by the install process)?  or is there a way that I can re-use that /users account that is on a different drive with my new fresh install?
Any help is appreciated,
-J

You may need to check the Unified Messaging profile setup in Unity to ensure it still has access into the new store.  In 2003, it uses WebDav, so if the account you are using is not setup to use WebDav on the new store, Unity can not deliver nor retrive information from this new store.  Also note, there is some sort of odd requirement with Microsoft and WebDav.. the account that uses WebDav must have a mailbox setup and at least one message sent and received to it.   (Or just logged into at least once for it to be active).  I have no idea why, but its documented at MS and seemed to fix a problem for me during a prior install with CUC and 2003 Exchange

  • Userdata restore after moving users to new pool

    Hi
I recently moved users from one Lync standard pool to another but users have lost all there contacts.
I never realised you needed to back them first before the moved users, is this now lost or can i get it back somehow?

    Hi tonysolinas,
If you select Force, the user account is moved, but any associated user data is deleted (for example, conferences that the user has scheduled). If you do not select it, both the account and
    the associated data are moved.

  • Moved User to new account.  How to connect to old Time Machine backup.

Hello.  I've just upgraded my wife's macbook pro to Mavericks.  There was an issue with the install and we couldn't launch programs.  I noticed that while logged in as Guest everything worked, so after many other futile attempts I created a new user and moved all her docs, etc. to the new user.  I've renamed her old account and changed her new one to her previous name.  All appears to work and everyone is happy.  Except Time Machine.  She now has a bcakup for an account she no longer uses and no backup for the account she does.  Is there a way to connect the new account to the old backup so as to retain all the historical data?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Time Machine backs up the whole computer, not just one account, so unless some hardware was changed or you erased the internal hard drive, I think Time Machine should continue to work. What are you seeing that indicates it's not backing up?
If it's indeed not working, see Pondini's excellent website for everything having to do with Time Machine: http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
One page that might be particularly applicable to your situation is: http://pondini.org/TM/19.html

  • Can't log in with newly created user on new install of Arch [solved]

    Hi all,
Yesterday I installed Arch anew (because I had a hardware failure that took out my hard drive), but now I'm encountering an issue with logging in.
After following the installation guide, and creating a new user, I find that I'm unable to log in as said user.
It complains about wrong password, but it's the exact same password that I entered mere moments before that, when creating the new user.
I can "log in" as said user by first logging in as root (which does work) and doing "su - <username>" (though then it doesn't ask for a password).
Can someone point me in the right direction to fix this problem?

I think cfr meant to say you shouldn't "fix" bash path - as some users did. Unfortunately there's a bit confusion wrt which paths should be used - see this ML thread.
Some say we should keep /bin/foo for compatibility, others say that we should boldly move to /usr/bin/foo.

  • Moving users to new drive - Questions

Okay so I just received new MP today.
Boot drive will be on separate SSD. (Intel x25-M)
I want to move my user accounts to my data drive (4x 1TB RAID 0)
I'll have Time Machine backup, but my question is if the RAID
goes down will I be able to boot back up and restore from the
external Time Machine drive? (Remember my user accounts will be on the RAID)
    Thanks

I agree with Kappy here. It really isn't a good idea to have your users on something other than your boot drive. You can, however, keep all of your files on the RAID as you would like. iTunes/iPhoto doesn't really care where the files/library is stored. Everything else is pretty easy to store elsewhere. I have a three disk RAID0 (with multiple backups of course) that is used for all of my files/media etc. but I keep my Users on the single drive boot volume. It has worked pretty much flawlessly since I bought this machine in Oct 2006.
Another thought is that keeping your users on the startup volume will also decrease the amount of read/writes to your RAID and possibly prolonging the life of your RAID. I've had this same RAID setup for almost three years with two operating system upgrades and the RAID hasn't failed yet.

  • Users Disconnected New install X Server 10.4.7

We were running XServer 10.2.8 with OS X, 9, 8.6, and windows users only AFP and windows services running system would hang and required numerous restarts thoughout a week and sometimes daily upgraded to 10.4.7 as recommened to posibly solve this issue now my OS 10, and 9 users are getting disconnected from sharepoints without warning this is causing loss of data and 9 users have to reboot computers to log back on and also crashes program being used when disconnected. Users are created as part of staff group no other groups are present all shares have all access ownership is administrator group staff (users) everyone all read write. Any suggestions

    Hello Camelot,
thanks for giving a hand. On the third point you say to
"3) change the router at 172.18.0.1 to route 192.168.1.x via 172.18.0.2 - in this way the router will send any traffic for 192.168.1.x to the external interface of this server, which will pass it through."
Unfortunately i do not have access to the settings on our external router. I can only change internal settings for the remainder of the network. Is there any way to do the last part internally?
i think i have something up and running but not too sure of its efficiency.
I have moved the external connection to the top of the list on network configs.
I have set a firewall rule for the 172.18 range and set it to allow all traffic. ( i thought since there is another nat router after this is should be ok).
I have set nat service to translate and forward requests on the external port.
I removed the router address from the internal command and added the proxy address to the external.
I just need to confirm all is working correctly from the client-side.
PS what would be the best authenticating proxy at the moment? Free is obvioulsy best.
I have starrted to look at dgcomplete but i lacks authentication at the moment. Any pointers to a config build for squid and dansguardian including authentication would be ace.
    Thanks in advance.

  • New Install - Best Way to add users

    Hi,
    Disclaimer: 100% New to Macs!
I need advice on setting up a new Mac Mini Server. Our intent is to use this as an e-mail/calendar server for a small business, replacing a Lotus Domino server that is being retired. Our computing enviroment is based on a (don't laugh) Windows NT4 domain and as such we do not support Windows Active Directory.
Since I was not be able to import users automatically (presumably because of the lack of Active Directory) during the install, I selected "Create users and groups" and started adding users once the install was done. After doing that I then logged off of the Admin account and tried to log on as one of these newly created users and was unable to do so. I tried several others and had the same result.
So I guess my questions are:
Should I have chosen to "Configure manually" for the creation of users? or how should I go about adding these users to this system?
Any thoughts/recommendations on a OS X Server for Dummies type book?
    Thanks,
    Alan

After doing that I then logged off of the Admin account and tried to log on as one of these newly created users and was unable to do so.
When you say log on, do you mean log on as a user of the Mac Mini running OS X server?
I don't think server users can log on to the server itself unless they have a user account on the computer running OS X server, in this case your Mac mini.
Should I have chosen to "Configure manually" for the creation of users?
Not at all. Your users should have access to the services you allow for them

  • Moving everthing from emac to XHD b-4 new install

I have an emac 1.25 10.39 and am getting ready to do a new install of Leopard 10.5. Our main priority is moving music and photos to an XHD and bringing them back to the emac intact and in their proper folders. Anything to be aware of or to watch out for? Been putting this off because I'm afraid things won't go back to where they were.
    Thanks.
    Mr. McTev

Better is to put a bootable backup/clone onto the ext HD, ensure that it works like the original, and just upgrade the original or the backup/clone. That guarantees everything is in place, including all of your user information. See these for details:

Old users.dbf have 3gbytes(dates from old oracle instal)In Oracle, a database is more than just a single file.
That single file is like a single piece of the puzzle. It alone cannot be the picture. Nor can you derive what the picture looks like from a single puzzle piece.

  • Moved database to new server, not sure about NT AUTHORITY\* users

I just moved database to new instance of SQL Server (SQL Server 2012 Web from Amazon EC2) and am now cleaning up database users.
I am not sure if/why these 2 users are needed (they exist in original database that someone else created and managed before me):
    NT AUTHORITY\IUSR
    NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Note that there are also 2 database schemas with exactly the same names. These schemas do not contain any objects.
I am more clear on NT AUTHORITY\IUSR - this seems to be a user for IIS and IIS is not even installed on new instance (IIS will not be used). So this one probably can be deleted (together with matching schema?).
I am not sure about NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE (or how it got created to begin with - new databases created on new server don't have it. Newly created databases don't have NT AUTHORITY\IUSR either).
Neither of these 2 users exist at server level on a new instance or on an old instance.

    BOL says
Local System account. The name of this account is NT AUTHORITY\System. It is a powerful account that has unrestricted access to all local system resources. It is a member of the Windows Administrators group on the local computer, and is therefore a member of
the SQL Server sysadmin fixed server role
Network Service account. The name of this account is NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService. It is available in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. All services that run under the Network Service account are authenticated to network resources as the
    local computer.

  • My company uses Creative Cloud subscription (Photoshop CC 2014) for one of its photographers and wishes to add another user/install with the same IT account, how can we sign up another user?

Essentially can we add another user to the existing account and add the new payment for the yearly subscription, I seem to have seen somewhere on your account site(cant remember its not very intuitive) that 2-3 systems can log in with the same credentials.
How can we set this up without enrolling with yet another email ID, etc.?
    Thanks!

  • Newbie Question - Cannot log onto htmldb admin user after new v2 install

    Hi
    Cannot log onto admin user.
htmldb v2 - installed fine on db
    Oracle Server - 9.2.0.5
9i Application Server (httpd 1.0.2.2.2). This part of the ebso 11.5.10 stack. Many
reasons why i had to do this but i could not see a compat issue ? This is only
test bed as well, not a production configuration.
    Followed all v2 post-install tasks - httpd.conf/wdbsvr.app .
    DAD/modplsql config OK.
On connection to admin interface - host:port/pls/htmldb/htmldb_admin, gives what i would call the 'standard' browser logon page ? Not the htmldb logon template
Thought it may be issue with images alias but don't really know and cannot see issue with config files ?
    Regards
    A

Do you have an alias setup for the images directory? For example -
Alias /i/ "....path to images directory..."If not, then that's probably the cause of your problem. If you do have that entry, then check that the path is correct, and check that the permissions on that directory are such that the user that the webserver is running as can access the directory.
