Adding 2nd WLC

I have added a second wlc to my wcs. From the wcs everything looks fine, I can controll the wlc and all wlan are there.  When I go into a AP that is registered with my primary wlc, and change the settings to register with my second wlc, the ap never registers with the second wlc, it will always go back to the primary.  I have run debugs on the secondary wlc and I never see any lwapp packets.  The configs are the same on both wlc except for the ip addressing.  What do I need to look for to try and troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
The WCS is running version 4.2.62.11
WLC-1 is running version 4.2.61.0
WLC-2 is running version 4.2.205.0
I have read that the WLC need to be at the same or lower version than the wcs, but I have also seen posts that this is for the major release, so I should be fine with them all being on 4.2 release, is this correct?

Hi,
In order fo AP fallback from one controller to another, we should comply with the following rules:
1. All controllers must be in the same mobility group.
2. Primary, secondary and tertiary controller's name on the AP should match the system name of the WLC (this can be verified under "show sysinfo").
3. All controllers in the same mobility group should be running the same version:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/4.2/configuration/guide/c42mobil.html#wp1093659
I'd recommend to first make sure that all controllers are on the same release before continuing with these tests.

Fede

  • Help adding new WLC to existing ACS

    Hi All,
    I need help with this.
This network has a working WLC that authenticates wireless users against an ACS by MAC address. It works fine.
I need to add a new WLC.
I added the WLC, the APs connect to the WLC fine, but the users get limited connectivity and we've found out that is because the new WLC is getting authentication errors against the ACS.
The configuration of the new WLC is exactly the same as the current working WLC and both controllers show as AAA clients on the ACS.
I want to know if somebody can point me out in the right direction to solve this.
There's connectivity fine between all devices (as far as PING goes), and there's no Firewall or filters in between.
The difference I see on both WLCs is that on the working one (WLC1), under Security - AP Policies, we see the AP Authorization List with the MAC addresses/cert type/hash.  We don't get this information on the non-working WLC (attached document shows both)
Also in the attached document, I'm sending the errors I get no the WLC2 controller.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Federico.

    Federico,
I didn't get you when you say that you see only One WLC under groupsetup/Mac address. Could you please elaborate this?
Also, if you don't know see any NAR configured under shared profile component then check inside the group/user setup there must be either ip based or CLI/DNIS based NAR configured for WLC's and looking at failed attempts it seem that action is denied.

  • Error when adding a WLC to WCS

When adding a WLC to WCS I get this error: Failed to add device to WCS Reason:
COMMON-1: Some unexpected internal error has occured. If the problem persists please report to the Tech Support.
WCS 7.0.164.0 was upgraded from 5.2.110.0 because the WLC were running 7.0.98.0
    WLC4404-100 7.0.98.0 (Already in WCS)
WLC4402-12 7.0.98.0 (Changed the ip address of the management and ap manager.  Was in WCS but deleted from WCS prior to the ip address change and prior to the WCS being upgraded)
I know that the snmp strings are fine and that the WLC's both respond to snmp get commands.
The intial WCS upgrade from 5.2.110.0 to 7.0.164.0 didn't require the previous version to be uninstalled.  After the upgrade and restoring the WCS from backup. I was getting the error posted above.  We uninstalled WCS and re-installed WCS from scratch and still we are getting the same error.  We tried restarting the WCS services and also the VM box as well and not luck.  I was wondering if the WCS has the old ip and mac address of the WLC4402-12 in the database and that is why i'm getting this error.
I did delete and try different snmp community strings with no luck with WCS.  Again, snmp is working since I can do snmp get from the WLC's.

    Scott,
    This is the issue:
com.cisco.common.persistence.transaction.TransactionException: Null value was assigned to a property of primitive type setter of com.cisco.server.managedobjects.aaa.GuestUserTemplateCG.userStatus
Could be an existing bug or a new one. I cant say unless I look into your setup.

  • Adding 2nd Line

    Hello:
I was interested in adding 2nd landline.  I know where the ONT is but does anyone have any instructions on self-installing and the possible difficulty.  What materials would I need and how much would the cost be for the line?  Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have to do anything.  Verizon will make the connection to your phone junction box.  Most home internal wiring is  already suitable for a second line.  Unless a previous DIY type has gotten creative with the phone wiring, it should be a simple process.

  • Adding second WLC as backup at remote location?

    Hello everybody.
One of our customers has one 2504 with 10 APs/Licenses at his site A.
Now I'm placing a second 2504 with 2 APs but with 25 licenses (it's the Cisco Mobility Express Bundle 1700 - AIR-AP1702I-E-WLC) at his site B.
Is there any way to configure the WLCs in a way that they backup each other? Like if WLC-A would fail, then the APs of site A would connect and work on WLC-B and viceversa.
Or is the correct/only way to achieve such thing, by connecting all APs (both site A and site B ones) to one WLC (site B, as it will have the higher number of licenses) and let the other run as a secondary/backup WLC only?
Thanks for your suggestions and kind regards,
    Flavio.

    Hi Flavio,
If you have one WLC with 10 AP license and other WLC with 25 AP license then how can it work as completed Reduendency(It will work as partial).
You ca use these two option:
Case1: Either you should have same license on both WLCs
Case2: Or you should have one WLC with enough AP license and 2nd WLC with HA-SKU license.

  • Added 2nd Hard Drive - Which Format Do I Select?

I just added a 2nd hard drive. It shows up in disk utility. I know I must format it before I can use it. But, there are 6 choices in the Volume format drop down: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Mac OS Extended , Mac OS Extended case - sensitive journaled, Mac OS Extended case - sensitive, MS-DOS file system, UNIX File System. Is there some information on the Apple site that explains these 6 formats?
G5 2.3 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Which is best to use?
    G5 2.3 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    G5 2.3 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Actually, when I have had a drive with problems like bad blocks, I find Intech Speedtool ZoneBench to show up problems the best. It also includes ability with another part of the suite to map out bad blocks (never found any) but I did have to do a 7-way erase with one drive that kept having problems.
An entire 4GB area went from normal 56MB/sec down to 31-33MB/sec - either partition off that area, or just realize it has this problem with longer seeks (the time to go from inline to spare sector - some SCSI drives locate spares on the same track to reduce seeks.
ZoneBench can be set to a 511MB test file, and can test 60? areas per volume, so you can force read/write to over 33%.
The most important areas of a drive that cannot have any bad blocks are the areas that are not part of user allocated space, partition tables, directory (maybe) and the area of the journal file.
If it solved a problem 1% of the time or less, would vendors include it in their "how to setup a drive for end users"?

  • Need help adding 2nd AExpress to wireless network

hey peeps, i'm adding my second AE to my system, which contains a Macbook, a wireless DSL modem and another AExpress which is wireless and is connected to a stereo. I am having trouble connecting the 2nd AE to the system. Everytime i try to configure it it asks me if i want to switch networks, which i don't want to do. When i do that i lose my connection. I need to tie the new AE in to my current system.

Ok, let's double-check the 2nd AX's configuration to join the wireless network provided by the 2wire.
Temporarily connect AX to your Mac Pro using an Ethernet cable, and then, using the AirPort Utility check the following:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing 2wire's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • After adding 2nd WiSM and failing over AP's some apps don't work

We have a dual core made up of 2 6513's. In 6513#1 we have WiSM#1 which we have had for sometime now. We have added a 2nd WiSM in 6513#2 for redundancy purposes also we are going to be re-configuring the WiSM in 6513#1 to more match that of the new WiSM in 6513#2. We have installed the new WiSM and failed over the AP's from 6513#1 so we can re-configure it's WiSM. The failover went great and no issues, with the exception that a web application or two didn't function from wireless clients and users were having issues getting to some mapped drives. The only difference from the new WiSM config vs the old WiSM is that on the old WiSM the AP's were in the same VLAN as the controller management interfaces. Now with the new WiSM it's configuration has the controllers AP mgt interfaces ip addresses in a different VLAN from the AP's, we are doing this based on Cisco best practices. If we revert the AP's back to the original WiSM/controllers the PC's where they are on the same vlan/subnet the applications and shares that were having issues the other way work. We have placed a call with Cisco TAC and they say our configs look good and we even sent them some packet captures and they said everything looks normal. The wireless clients can ping and resolve the server hosting the application database just fine.
    Thanks

We did create the mobility groups, and we are using DHCP opt 43. The AP's find the 2nd WiSM#2 just fine and associate to the controllers and all the WLAN's work just fine. The only issue is that after the AP's are on the new WiSM and controllers there is an application or 2 that is having trouble locating it's database server and that some share's are not working. Again the only difference in this new setup in that now the AP's are on a different subnet/vlan from the controller mgt addresses where as before they were in the same subnet/vlan and the application and shares worked fine. It's almost like it is a bit of a routing issue?
    Thanks

  • Adding 2nd internal HD

I am considering adding a 2nd internal HD to my PowerMac G5 (June 2003 - single 1.8 processor) & was wondering what type HD is recommended. Will this machine use a SATA drive or only a PATA drive? Is it important to have a drive that supports S.M.A.R.T. or is that just hype?
I may also replace the original drive (160G) that came with the machine. My stratigy is to put a 500G-750G in slot 2, clone the new drive & make it the boot drive. Test it for a while until I know all is OK, then replace the 160G with a 500G-750G. Does anyone have experience with this? What drives are the best? I have several external LaCie drives, but I don't see LaCie's being used as internals. I don't even know if they make internal drives.
I do want a drive that has at least the same (or better) reliability & life cycle of the original that came with the machine, which BTW is working great.
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Hi LStacy-
You will need an SATA drive.
The drive does not have to support SMART. It is a tad of hype but sometimes can be helpful. Most internal units support SMART anyway.
I have done precisely as you describe with regards to cloning, upgrading and testing drives. Any SATA drive manufactured by any of the large vendors (Seagate, Maxtor, WD, Hitachi for example) will work.
External LaCie drives have actual physical hard drive mechanisms manufactured by drive manufacturers, so in other words a LaCie housing could contain a Maxtor or Seagate drive.
You can always take your current drive and place it in an external housing to use for backups and such.
Official drive replacement instructions are here: Hard Drive Replacement Instructions

  • 2106, adding 2nd WLAN

There's a thread here somewhere which helped me get my 2106 set up with one WLAN, a guest WLAN. Now I'm trying to set up a 2nd WLAN on the same WLC. I created a new dynamic interface, WLAN, and corresponding AP group VLAN. However, the lone AP in the new WLAN is pushing out both WLANs, even though it is configured as being only in the second. I must be missing a config step here, but what?

    Hi Jeff,
The feature you are looking for is called WLAN Override :)
    Enabling WLAN Override
By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/4.0/configuration/guide/c40wlan.html#wp1114777
Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
**Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
    From this good doc;

    Hope this helps!

  • Permissions problem after adding 2nd hard drive and putting user home there

I added a 2nd drive and put my user home on this. The reset password tip from command line at startup never sees this new volume, so I have been having to add my user to most files manually. Almost everything works now except iMovie. When I try to import it says I probably cannot write to the events.localize folder. I have tried symbolic links, manually editing the permissions, etc. no luck. Any ideas?

ill try the fsck right now
    heres the output you requested
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda3 7.3G 3.9G 3.0G 57% /
    none 505M 120K 505M 1% /dev
    none 505M 0 505M 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/sda1 99M 12M 83M 12% /boot
    /dev/sdb1 38G 93M 38G 1% /home
    total 46G 4.0G 42G 9%
    thats interesting.
/dev/sda3 is showing its old values almost like something in the partition tables didn't get updated?

  • Adding 2nd Listener

I currently use Skype with a USB headset w/ microphone.  I need a 2nd person to be able to hear the conversations.  Is there any way to add the ability for them to hear?  I've tried adding a 2nd headset with jack plugs.  Skype will only recognize one headset or the other - not both at the same time.  I also have speakers plugged into the computer, but am not hearing anything out of them.  What do you suggest?  Do I need to reconfigure the "Speakers" setting on Skype to have sound only coming out of computer speakers?
    Thank you!

Are you using FileDialog or JFileChooser?

  • Need help adding 2nd hard drive

Hey guys whats up. I need some advice about adding a second hard drive. Right now i have a WD 320GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive running on the primary IDE. Everything is fine but i wanted to get a smaller and faster drive for the operating system and for some small video editing. I recently purchaced a Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive.
    Now the questions:
     1. How should i assing the drives? (which master/slave/cable select)
     2. Also am i going to have to do anything since im going to have one on the IDE and another on SATA?
     3. Any advice that you have...
What i was thinking is this...i should disconect my current HD and hook up the new one to SATA port 2, and set it to master(or CS maybe). Format it and then install the operating system. Once OS installed and working, ill hook back up the IDE drive and make the setting to slave(or CS maybe). Then uninstall the operating system from the IDE.
    Thanks for any input

    Thanks NovJoe,
What setting (master/slave/cable select) should i set the IDE drive to? And yes i do want my OS on the raptor.
Thanks for your advice...didnt think that anyone was going to.

  • Dv7 3085dx won't power on after adding 2nd hard drive

I'm attempting to add a 2nd drive to my laptop (dv7 3085dx). The drive is a Seagate Momentus 750GB drive (ST9750420AS). I purchased the drive caddy and connector from Newmodeus. The laptop will not power on after the drive is installed in the 2nd bay. Everything is fine if the drive is disconneted.
    Any ideas?

Are you absolutely sure you got the right caddy and cable from newmodeus? They sell several different ones for the dv7 series and they look similar but are not compatible with each other. I understand the reluctance to try hot-plugging it.
