Adding external HD

Heya
Intend to get an Apple TV,was just wondering if it possible to add more space by using the usb port to an external HD?
Also, when i sync the video from itunes to the apple tv,will it be gone if i delete it from Itunes?

You can use an external drive for additional storage but it needs to be attached to your PC as part of your itunes library, it won't work attached to the tv.
If you delete the file in itunes it will get deleted from the tv next time you sync, however if you leave the link in itunes but delete the original file, it won't be available in itunes anymore and will have an exclamation mark next to it, but it won't get deleted from your tv next time you sync.
This is quite useful if you have a laptop and are unable to stream all of the time or simply don't wish to connect the HD every time, but I don't recommend you delete files from your laptop without keeping your content on an external HD

  • Adding external photo galleries, calendars, etc. in Catalyst

Is there a way of adding external photo albums, calendars (ie. yahoo, google) into a website made in Flash Catalyst?

The short answer is no. If these modules need to be within the design of the Flash Catalyst project, you can add them using Flash Builder to add them in. This method will require some effort and knowledge of ActionScript and the Flex Framework.  If these modules need to next to the Flash Catalyst project, then you could modify the produced HTML file that contains the Flash Catalyst element and insert the modules.
Either way, you will have a modest amount of development to add these elements to your project.
    Good luck,

  • Adding external jars

    Hi,
I have a jar file in the ext folder of BPEL. When i use the class in java embedding activity it says class not found error how do i solve it. Or please tell me the procedure of adding external jars
    Edited by: user10545499 on Nov 5, 2008 9:40 PM

To make external Jar files available in your BPEL PM, you could put the files in:
    [ORACLE_HOME]\bpel\system\classes
Restart the server, you they are read when BPEL PM is started. If you want them available in the whole J2EE environement, you sould place them in the j2ee enviornment.

  • Can I extend time capsule by adding external drive connected TC via USB?

    Hi,
I use my TC drive for backups, i's now full. Can I extend time capsule backup drive by adding external drive connected TC via USB? If yes, how do I his? I have 1TB WD external drive connected via the TC's USB, I can see the WD drive in the finder and the TC set-up...but I don't know where to go from here...
    Thanks for your help
    Steveru

    Welcome to the discussions, Steveru!
I think what you are asking is can you simply continue Time Machine backups by adding the new USB drive, correct? The answer is not exactly. See below for details.
To use the new USB drive for Time Machine backups, you'll need to Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and open Time Machine. Click on Select Disk and click your USB drive to highlight it, then click Use for Backup. Here's the rub....Time Machine will make a new full complete backup of everything on your Mac's hard drive. There's no way to avoid this. After that, it will continue to make scheduled incremental backups just like it did before on the Time Capsule.
If you ever need to go back to your original backups on the Time Capsule, you'll need to right-click the Time Capsule icon on the dock and choose Browse Other Time Machine Disks.
When the USB drive start to fill, you may decide that you no longer need all the old backups on the Time Capsule disk since you should have a good history of backups on the USB drive at that point.
So, you could erase the Time Capsule disk and then start backing up to the Time Capsule disk again. At that time, it will also make a complete backup on the first pass and then normal incremental backups from that point forward. When the TC begins to fill again, then you could erase the older backups on the USB drive and start backups again on that drive. Then switch to the other drive in the future to keep things going indefinitely. If you go with this type of flip flop plan, you should always have a solid history of many months of backups at any given time.
Will a plan like this work? I don't answer a question on the forum unless I've done it myself. This has been working well for me for almost 3 years.
Pondini, the resident expert on Time Machine and Time Capsule affairs, may have some comments on this as well. If you haven't already seen his excellent guide, Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule or +Time Machine FAQ+, these are the best available sources of information on this subject on the Internet.
Or, if you don't want to erase any your backups, you could of course keep adding a new USB drive when the current drive is about to fill.

  • FiOS HD-DVR crashing since adding external eSATA drive

After the recent firmware update, I added an 2TB external eSATA drive to my FiOS DVR.  I'd really been looking forward to this because our DVR had been perpetually 90+% full.  After a couple of reboots, the drive was recognized and showed as a second DVR at 0% full in the DVR Status menu.  Just to make sure everything worked, I scheduled a bunch of recordings to make sure it was utilizing the new drive.
A few days later, we found that the DVR had erased several of our recordings because it was out of space.  Checking the DVR status again, the new drive had disappeared.
After a couple of reboots, it appeared in the status menu again, and the DVR started recording to the external drive.  But a few days later, my wife couldn't find the recordings.  Turns out it had disappeared again.
This pattern has repeated itself several times over the last couple of weeks.  On two occasions, the DVR has completely frozen while we were in the middle of watching something, necessitating a complete reboot in order to watch TV, and interrupting any recording that was going on in the background.  Each time, at least 2 reboots has been required before the eSATA drive appears.
Needless to say, this whole thing is a disaster.  I spent a ton of money and the result is poorer service quality.  What can I do to fix this?

After a few minutes searching I found the link of recommended drives.
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Other+Hardware/eSATA/129841.htm
Here's a snipet from that page...
Which Verizon FiOS TV DVRs are compatible with eSATA devices?
The following FiOS TV DVRs are compatible with eSATA devices:
    Motorola QIP 7216
    Motorola QIP 7232
    Cisco CHS 435 HDC
Which eSATA external storage devices can I use with my FiOS DVR?
Verizon recommends the eSATA hard drives below for use with FiOS DVR. Customers choosing to install other drive types will assume the risk of compatibility with FiOS DVR and Verizon will not assist with compatibility or performance issues should they arise.

I'm not sure why this happened...'Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.'
I'm assuming that the above drives were the only one tested at the time. We users can add to this list if we want. Anyone game?

  • Adding external mail contacts to a distribution group seems to randomly add the user instead of the mail contact

I've added a external mail contact for all my mailbox users because all the users have other jobs and other external email addresses.  Since these users don't normally log on to my domain to get email, I need to create a distribution list with all their
external email addresses.  I've scripted the creation of all the external mail contacts, from the mailbox users and I use AD's Notes field to contain the users external address. When using add-DistributionGroupMember and supplying the external mail
contact email address as the "-Member" param, about half of the time the users mailbox user gets added to the group instead of the external contact.  I don't see any arguments to tell add-DistributionGroupMember to use only mail contacts.
    1) I don't even know how it's finding the mailbox user because I'm supplying an external email address which is only in the external mail contact.
    2) Some members of the group are correctly added as external contacts, some are mailbox users.
    3) I only want the external mail contacts in the group
If it helps, here's the line that I use to add members to the group. I've tried mail enabling the mail contacts, no help...
    Add-DistributionGroupMember–identity“AltEveryone”–member(get-QADuser$_.Name).Notes
    Thanks for any help.

You should ask questions like this in the Exchange forum.  It is not a scripting question but is a product behavior question.
You cannot add an external contact without first creating the contact first.

  • Help need in Adding External jar files.

    Hi all,
Iam developing ADF application using JDEV 11.1.1.3.0.
I need to move files from one directory to another so i have used external jar "commons-io-1.4.jar" file.
i did this by going to the project properties -->Libraries and Classpath -->Add Library
    added the jat file.
In java class i have used the function
    File.copyFileToDirectory(reQueueFile, TargetLocation,false);
it was working fine when i tried in IntegratedWeblogic server but when i deploy in Standalone Weblogic server its not getting the jar file.
    Its throwing me the exception

Please let me know is there a way of adding the lib to the project.
    Regards,
    Suresh kumar.k

First you should check that the library has the checkbox 'Deploy by default' is checked for your library.
The you open the project properties of the view controller project, select Deployments, edit the deployment descriptor. Select the Node 'File Groups'->'WEB-INF/lib'->'Contributors'. this should give you a list of libraries your project uses. Check if your library has the checkbox checked (is selected fro deployment). If it's not checked, set it.
    This should include the library.

  • Time Machine issues since adding external drive

    System spec:
    2012 Mac Mini, quad core 2.3ghz i7, 16gb RAM, OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Problem:
Today I added an external USB 3.0 1TB hard drive to my Mac Mini - a self powered Seagate one. I want Time Machine (running on another external drive - a mains powered 2TB USB 2.0 Western Digital drive) to back this drive up - so I went into the Time Machine preferences pane and removed the drive from the exclusions list to which it had automatically been added (since TM doesn't usually back up external drives)
I moved some data to the drive and Time Machine began to back this up as expected on it's next run. I went to check the TM drive in Finder to make sure it was backing up correctly when I noticed that the folder for this latest backup wasn't appearing - and that the Latest link went to the backup BEFORE the drive was installed. Both Finder and the Time Machine pref pane correctly showed the TM drive space dropping though - and if I went to Terminal and listed the contents of the Time Machine drive, the folder for the current backup appeared and Latest pointed to it as expected.
I let this backup and a second backup finish - so at this point I have two backups that have run since adding the external drive. The backups appear in the navigator on the right hand side - but they are greyed out compared to the others. If you try to click on one of these greyed out backups, TM scrolls back to an empty Finder window titled "Waiting: ...." and the time the backup ran.
I tried rebooting to fix this - when I checked again after rebooting, Time Machine showed the two backups and both were accessible and navigable within the TM restore interface. This was four hours ago. Three more backups have run since my reboot and they are exhibiting the same symptoms as the ones prior - not showing in Finder, not linked from Latest, and greyed out in the TM restore interface.
While I'm fairly confident the data IS being backed up, this is still going to be a problem if I need to restore. Has anyone seen this before and how did you fix it if so?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Adding External Jar files

    Hello,
I have successfully created and deployed a portal application project (par file) that required adding as an external jar the file com.sap.portal.usermanagementapi.jar. Now I am re-doing the project as a development component in NWDI and I can add the external jar file fine and the source code shows no errors. However as soon as I build the DC I get a  source error that says the import to com.sap.ip.portal.service.ume.IUserManagementEngine can not be resolved. If I go back to the java build path the usermanagementapi.jar is no longer there.
Do I have to handle the adding of external jar files in a different way for a DC as opposed to a par project?
    Thanks,

  • Adding external DOCTYPE causes "UnknownHostException" in x:parse

    Hi,
I am using the following JSTL to parse and retrieve data from an xml file:
    <c:import url="starfleet.xml" var="sf"/>
<x:parse doc="${sf}" varDom="dom"/>This works great but I am needing to add a DOCTYPE to the XML document:
<!DOCTYPE starship SYSTEM "starfleet.dtd" >As soon as that line is added I get the following error message on the JSP page:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: java.net.UnknownHostException: starfleet.dtdHowever placing the DOCTYPE internally brings up no problems e.g.
    <!DOCTYPE starship [

Any ideas why adding an external doctype is causing an "UnknownHostException"?

    Hi Dev,
When you create an external dimension, whether by creating it directly in an XML file or by transforming it from a source file, the dimension must conform to Endeca’s external_dimensions.dtd file before you import it into your project. The dtd file can be found here: $ENDECA_ROOT/conf/dtd. Also make sure to declare the dtd file in your XML:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
    <!DOCTYPE external_dimensions SYSTEM "external_dimensions.dtd">

  • HP Pavilion 500-314: big problems adding external video card

    Looking for some help.
I recently purchased an HP Pavilion 500-314.  Specs are as follows:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04293928&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
The unit includes integrated Radeon R7 graphics, and comes with a 300w power supply
I purchased this unit in large part because it explicitly states that "Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards".  I run a quad-monitor setup for my work, and have traditionally done this using an ATI Firepro 2450 card.
I have now tried three different external graphics cards, and can get none of them to work:
First attempt was with a VisionTec Radeon HD 5570 (item #900345).  This card supports quad monitor setup, and requires a minimum 250w power supply.  When I installed the card, the HP Pavilion repeatedly beeped a series of 4 or 5 (can't remember which) beeps, but refused to send an image to any video output (either onboard or the new card).
Next attempt was with an EVGA GeForce GT 610.  This is a dual monitor setup, and requires a minimum 300w power supply.  Got the same exact response as with the VisionTec (i.e. series of beeps...computer would not fire any monitors up).
So with both of these (new) cards, I basically gave up immediately as I couldn't even get into BIOS (b/c no monitors would work) to see what was going on.  My understanding is that the series of 4-5 beeps usually means that there is a graphics card issue, or that the card that has been added doesn't have sufficient power.  This is frustrating, as the HP Pavilion 500-314 supposedly has a 300w power supply, which is at least equal to the min required for each of these cards.
At this point, I pulled the ATI Firepro 2450 out of my old machine and tried it.  This card at least didn't cause the series of 4-5 beeps.  Windows booted.  However, once I log in, Windows tries to install the new (FirePro card) repeatedly, so the screen just flashes and flashes and flashes.  I then went into BIOS.  The BIOS indicates that the system is recognizing the card, and that the onboard video has been disabled.  However, there is still a signal coming out of the onboard video output (DVI), so it is not in fact actually disabled.  My sense is that Windows is trying to control two separate video cards (onboard + external), which is what is causing the problems.  I can disable the FirePro video card from w/in Windows (using Safe Mode), and leave the card installed, and things work fine.  However, as soon as I try and enable the card I get the endless cycle of flashing monitors again.
I have spent a couple of long sessions with HP tech support and they have been useless.  They claim that this isn't an HP issue since the onboard video works fine.  I find this response extremely frustrating.  I think this is an HP issue, since the BIOS doesn't seem to be properly disabling the onboard video.  Not to mention that the PC can't seem to interface properly with Windows 8 compatible PCI-E cards that explicitly claim to require less power than this unit has.
I am generally pretty computer savvy, but have reached my wits end on this one.  I would appreciate any help anybody could provide.  I have tried all kinds of combinations of variables (i.e. enabling onboard video, setting external card to primary, etc.) through BIOS, as well as combinations from w/in Windows disabling onboard video, but nothing seems to work.

    lordmonk3y,
Both the ATI Firepro 2450 (which never worked properly, but the system did recognize and was able to boot with when installed) and the GeForce GT 610 claim to draw right around 30w peak (closer to 20w average).  Both are considered to be relatively low-draw graphics cards, and neither is a standout performer.  My work requires a lot of available screen space, but not a lot of graphics horsepower.  I don't do any gaming.  For heavier hitting graphics cards you might want to consider a bigger power supply.  Based on most of what I looked at, 300w is the bare minimum for a lot of these cards, and many of them require a larger power supply.
For what it's worth, I looked at the specs listed on the side of the PS in the 500-314, and it actually claims peak power of 300w, but only 250w at higher operating temperatures.  It's kind of a catch-22, because if you're running a more powerful card it's sure to generate more heat inside the tower, thereby lowering the available power from the PS.
I did notice that there's one other nice thing about using an external card.  The onboard Radeon R7 grabbed 1GB of the stated 8GB system memory for itself, thereby leaving only 7GB free for system use.  Now that I'm using an external card, I get the whole 8GB available for system use.

  • LR 5.7 problem adding external editor

Computer is iMac, Mac OS X 10.9; Lightroom 5.7. I use Photoshop CS6, Photoshop Elements 13 and numerous products from vendors such as Topaz Labs, OnOne Software etc. I recent installed a new product from one of these vendors and it is working fine in CS6 and PSE13. I can't get it to work properly in LR5.
When I right click on a photo in LR5 and select Edit In I see a menu of external editors. At the top are CS6 and PSE13. Below that is some type of dividing line and below the line is a list of the other products I have installed. When I follow the procedure to add the new product it is added in place of PSE13, above the dividing line and PSE13 is gone. If I re-add PSE13 it replaces the product I added previously. I would like the menu to show CS6 and PSE13 above the dividing line and everything else below it which is they way things were before I installed this latest product. I am not sure what the dividing line signifies but it would be great if there is way to control where a new external editor is placed. The products below this line are listed in alphabetic order.
How can I install this new product and have it listed below the dividing line and keep CS6 and PSE13 above the line?
    Thanks
    Hector

  • Adding External TV Tuner

I just purchased, without the TV Tuner option, and would like to add. I tried the HP USB TV Tuner, but it appears to support only Notebook Computers. Has any one else had any luck with the HP DIgitial USB TV Tuner with this system.
Any other recommended options for adding a TV Tuner to this system. Any suggestions for External TV Tuners if the HP USB will not work.
    Thanks

USB is USB - Universal. Plus, the touchsmart internals are notebook technology. As long as the USB tuner is compatible with Windows Media Cener, you are good to go.

  • Adding external HD to network

    I have a Macbook Pro 10.5.8 and a iMac 21.5" 10.6.2 and a LaCie 500gb external HD.
My iMac is delivering internet via AirPort to my Macbook since I don't have a wireless router.
I want to plug the LaCie into the iMac and have access to it from the Macbook.
Sharing already works; I've shared printers, done screen sharing, and enable file sharing so I can browse each computer from the other.
I tried adding the LaCie as a shared folder, but it still doesn't show up on the Macbook.
    Tell me what to do?

The connected drive will not be in the desktop folder when connected over the network. When you first connect to the iMac, you should see a list of shared folders (and if admin) like the following: Macintosh HD (or whatever your boot drive is named), Admin's Shared Public Folder, User2's Shared Folder, External Drive 1, External Drive 2...; This list is visible if you click the iMac in the shared section of a finder window and authenticate. This is where you would see the drive and be able to mount it over the network as afp (or smb).
The drives may appear on the desktop, but they aren't in the Desktop folder (if you open the desktop folder of the iMac, you won't see the drive in this folder). The drives are mounted in the /Volumes folder (a hidden folder at the root of your boot drive). If you were to press Cmd-Shift-G, it brings up a dialog asking where to go. If you put in /volumes, you should see the drives connected to the local machine. If you were to mount the iMac's boot disk and open it's root level and go to folder (Cmd-Shift-G) Volumes (no / since / is your boot drive, we want a relative path), i think you will see the drives connected to the iMac.
