Adding maps to a book=phantom feature?

So. After an hour or three looking through archives here and researching the web it seems you cannot add a map to any book other than the apple template with theme "photo essay" or "journal" wich cannot be accessed when using custom page sizes. The only way to put a map in your book is to make a screen shot of google maps and paste it into the book as a photograph. I am sure that if pressed apple will point out that they clearly state in their current advertising video that 'the new journal and photo essay themes support maps" Silly me I did not get the implied 'and nothing else does'. Seriously. Do like I say not like I do. Do not waste any more time trying to find a way to make this work. Just cut and paste screen shots into your book.
Oh yea and while on the subject of doing what I say not what I do. Do NOT try to switch themes after you have done work on a custom book. All your custom crops and special formatting will dissapear and you will not be able to get it back unless you have made a backup.

I wondered why the "Add Map Box" item is not active in the "Modern Lines" theme (among others). After searching the forum for that topic I came across these two posts

which are unfortunately archived. As I needed a solution I started digging in the plist files as recommended in one of the posts above. The "Add Map Box" menu item is active in the "Photo Journal" and "Photo Essay" themes. After comparing the files Theme.plist in /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/Book Themes/Modern Lines/ExtraLarge and /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/Book Themes/Photo Essay/ExtraLarge I found that adding the two lines
<key>defaultMapStyle</key>
<string>PhotoJournal</string>
also for the "Modern Lines" Theme.plist I was able to add map boxes.

IPhoto crashes after added map to photo book

Hi,
I have been creating a photo book in iPhoto (the current version) which I've spent a fair bit of time working on and customising over the last couple of weeks. I had pretty much completed this book when I decided to add a map to one of the pages (the bright green map). It added ok, but when I went to scale it to zoom out a bit it kept crashing iPhoto. I instead tried choosing one of the other themed maps and zoomed out to the distance I wanted. I then thought I would try go back to the bright green map to see if it would work now, it didn't and iPhoto crashed. Now, every time I open iPhoto and click on my photo book it crashes iPhoto without loading the book at all. I can't access or edit the photo book since making this change to the map.
Any support would be greatly appreciated as I've put a fair bit of time into this photo book and am hoping I haven't lost this for good. Even if I am able to just get the page layouts back if possible would be great.

One of the map layouts is causing these crashes. The problem is, that you cannot remove the map, since you cannot open the book for editing.

Your only hope to save your book is, to restore your iPhoto library from the most recent Time Machine backup you made, before you added the map.
Otherwise delete the book to make the library usable again and start over. You can probably not select the book in the source list to delete it. create two more empty books and drag them directly before and after the broken book. Then select the range of all three books and delete them.

Address book "places" feature Possible??

I would like to search my contacts list by location, on a map (similar to the "places" feature in iPhoto). For instance, if I am in Dallas on business, I'd like to be able to search for all contacts in my address book who have a Dallas address and map out ALL of them. This includes searches by zip code, area code, state, etc. I understand the address book is already paired with google maps and it's possible to map out a contact for driving directions etc, but that can only be done with ONE contact. I want to be able to see ALL of the contacts for a specific region. Possible??

I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though, itunes automatically putting books on my idevices

How do I do this in the future so this doesnt happen? Its a lot of work to now manually erase them from each device and it sent my phone over capacity.

I dont see the difference in the posts. I dont think theres anything inaccurate or misleading about what I wrote. The items were immediately added to my ipad and my iphone, even though I have them both set to sync only select items. As soon as I added new titles to my itunes library, they were immediately added to the devices. Not on the next sync. Immediately. Both devices were plugged into the computer at the time. Sorry if I failed to mention they were plugged in but I dont see the signifigance youre making out of it. The problem persists anyway.
Now that I did a test without the devices plugged in, the new items were still added as soon as I plugged my devices into the computer ( I do not have them set to sync over wifi).
Since I have both devices set to manually select items to sync, of course I want to manually select new items to sync. For instance, I am not going to read any of these magazines or books on my phone, ever, and I dont want to waste valuable space with them.
So I'm trying your advice:
I just tried deselecting sync books. It erased all content from ibooks on my device. I then dragged
one title onto the device, and it just goes back to syncing select books, with the one title selected.
It appears that wont work to solve my issue. The next time I add something to itunes it will be put on my phone. Is this really something most people want? To select to manualy control what content is synced, but then have things automatically added. It seems inconsistent to me.

Book marking feature in adobe presenter

Is there a book marking feature in adobe presenter?

The presentation is huge. I can't send. However, even on a single slide presentation when I add an interaction it does not work.
Delete - for exampe if I try to use a process tab interaction, it starts with 4 tabs, but I only want 3 tabs. How can I delete a tab.
The label on the tab is too small - I need to put 3 words on it, can't I shrink text size or use more of tab.
When I enter a graphic using the icon, it is not moveable and is not size right.
I don't see how I can add text, etc to the interactions. It seems to freeze, the instructions for how to edit interactions is very poor, so though very technical, I don't understand how to edit/add my own content to an interaction. Aren't there more robust instructions with maybe a video demonstration on how to use, edit/customize interactions?
Is there an option for allowing Flash that I should be setting on my computer? That seems to be a potential problem, like enabling java?

Automatically adding contacts to Address Book with Mail?

Hello all,
This is my first post in the Apple Discussion forum, but I'm a happy Mac owner since July 2007. Here's a question I have; I searched to see if a similar topic appeared in previous discussions, but none turned up.
In Microsoft Outlook (on my work PC), I can set it up so that anytime I reply to an e-mail address from somebody new, the contact is automatically added to my address book. Is there a way to set that up with Mail and/or Address Book?
I was going through Address Book and noticed some VERY old contacts, but I know for some of them, I have more recent e-mail address. I hope I don't have to manually add all of them!

Hi Mark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sadly, I don't know how to do it for received Mail, but ones you've sent to can be done in Mail. Select Window Menu item>Previous Recipients, press Command-A when the new window appears, and then click Add to Address Book, then in Address Book>Card Menu Item, select look for Duplicates.

Has anyone coded a booking calendar feature into BC?

My customer has a building business and would like to include a booking calendar feature that does the follow process each time a booking is generated:
1. Online booking form that includes:
• a list of trades to choose from.
• asks for a postcode (the area is very important as this service will not be offered in every suburb of sydney). If the suburb is out of area a response page is generated saying that we cannot help them in that suburb.
• If their postcode is accepted in the area of serviceability then the next part is detailing the type of service required.
• Then there needs to be a calendar that they can choose a time and day. The calendar must not show today or tomorrow as available times. In other words, there needs to be a window of 2 days before anyone can make a booking. The calendar must also be able to block out the certain days of the week and this needs to be editable from the back-end by the administrator.
• The next step is an invoice is generated for the customer and payment is made by credit card in BC.
2. Once a booking has been made the workflow must include the following:
The booking request is sent via e-mail to all tradesman (users of BC) and they need to respond with an ACCEPT or REJECT the job. If no acceptance is made within 12 hours, then the request is escalated to an (Administration person of BC).
3. Once a booking has been accepted. A calendar style events page is updated. This calendar shows all the jobs booked in and is only accessible by the Administrator.
ALSO 3. Once a booking has been accepted. A another calendar style events page is updated showing only the jobs booked in for a specific tradesperson and is only visable by that tradesperson.
4. A confirmation e-mail is sent to the client that has made the booking saying that "Mr Joe Blow" will be attending this job on that day etc etc.
Can anyone code this? If so I need to talk to you ASAP. My customer is ready to proceed.

Apparently is is a Google Chrome browser issue. There is no issue in Firefox. BC says they are working on a solution.

Mail not adding Sender to Address Book

When I have a message from someone I want added to my address book, I hit the menu button to Add Sender to Address Book, yet nothing at all happens, and I end up having to enter all the info manually. Any ideas as to why this occurs, or how to get it working?

The shift, command, Y didn't work, and when I opened the Console app, and tried the menu command, it didn't work, and I didn't see anything showing up on the Console, relative to Mail.
What I did see on the Console was endless lines like this:

Are you saying that if you input destination for this region into "search" it does not show appropriate map?
Sorry but i thought it's like a directory where you choose the map you want & then browse thru it . Thanks , the address did show up when I put it in "search" . By the way , I'm using N700 ( also have E66 & E71 )

IPhoto 08 photo book adding map

My iPhoto 08 program does not give me the option to add a map. I understand iPhoto 09 has more capability with maps, but doesn't iPhoto 08 allow a map at all? Under the "layout" tab, map is not an option.

Adding address from Adress Book to event in iCal?

Hi,
First of all i'm sorry if i'm not using the proper terms since I use iCal in French.
OK, when adding event in iCal I would like to specify the address by simply selecting a person or compagy in my Address Book but it doesn't seems to be possible?
It would be nice to have it implemented just like the guess! It would then sync to my iPhone and it would be really easy for me to check the road map after in Google maps' iPhone.
If not possible, where can I request that feature?

Use of detail levle maps in photo book

I used the feature to drop pins to identify places in the map function. For example, I dropped pins on hiking trail points, at the most detail level. The pins show on the maps, when viewed in the Places section of the Library.
However, when I select Map layouts in the photo book area, I have not been able to see the same level of detail for a map page in the photo book.
The photo book area will only show the closest city to the trail area. I want to see the selected pin drops on maps in my photo book.
How do I show detail maps in on a photo book page?

I find the same thing - very frustrating. Thanks for suggestion to feedback to Apple. I have. Would be great to see the maps being more flexible in other themes and far more detail - my map of London was a red dot on a green background! Not great after spending hours on all my photos adding in very specific locations of where the photos were taken (no GPS on camera!).

HT5429 Why is Saudi Arabia not supported on Map's turn-by-turn feature?

The new feature of iOS' Map which is turn-by-turn instruction is a great added feature. However, this only applies to selected countries. Since i am new here in KSA (Saudi Arabia), this feature would really help me a lot in navigating through the city. Is there any chance apple can add the map of saudi arabia on the turn-by-turn feature?

Adding metadata to a book upon export as a pdf file

I have a collection of files that I'm exporting from Indesign (CS2) to the pdf format as a book. I want to add metadata. The files are exported to pdf with no changes allowed. Therefore, meta data cannot be added to the pdf file using Acrobat>File>Document Properties>Description after the pdf file's creation. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

At least with ID versions through CS4, if you use ID's Book feature to export a set of ID files into a single PDF, the PDF picks up the metadata from the first file in the set: the metadata for other files does not make it into the PDF. If you need individual files to carry unique metadata then you may want to look into PDF Portfolios -- though I guess those came in with Acrobat 8, meaning after CS2. One day we're supposed to get full object-level metadata for different things in a PDF, though perhaps a chunk of PDF pages -- a chapter in a book, for example -- still may not qualify as an "object."
The metadata categories availble through the standard ID interface are pretty limited, and heavily biased towards photography. As I mention in a comment in Bob's ID Secrets blog entry, Adobe makes available a versions of the XMP FileInfo SDK for various versions of ID that allow you to add additional categories (such as PRISM, for magazine articles).
