Adding original solaris 7 cdrom packages...

Hi all,
I need to add packages from the original Solaris 7 CDROM on my solaris 7 system.
How can i do it ?
I usually use the command : pkgadd -d "package_name" but it doesn't seems to work in taht case :
dmphp1 # pkgadd -d SUNWarc
pkgadd: ERROR: no packages were found in </dm/backups/SUNWarc>
thank you for your help....

Try doing
pkgadd -d . (dot at the end) while in the directory where packages are located.
Then select the package

Unfortunately, this is a bug in the Sun jumpstart process.
You will have to install the same packages in a postinstall phase.
This bug has been there for years.
It is fixed in the latest Solaris 9 cdroms dated 09/04.
I know of no other fix except the latest cdroms.
It is also fixed in Solaris 10.
Solaris 8 even the most recent cdroms have the bug.
This bug only appears in a jumpstart. It works fine in a cdrom install. I haven't investigated why the jumpstart from a jumpstart server fails, but installing the package in a postinstall phase works.
I recommend that you download the latest Solaris 9 cdroms if it is Solaris 9 that is having the problem. For Solaris 8, postinstall phase is your only option.
I don't remember this bug in Solaris 7.

Any idea how to fix this ? Ive jumped a lot of machines using this jumpstart server using JET, always using the SDS product from JET, it always worked well, until I tried to jump this v210 recently acquired and firmware updated.
I got those errors and have no clue how to fix this .. :

  • Is the .sh install facility going to be added to Solaris 11 since the IPS i

Is the .sh install facility going to be added to Solaris 11 since the IPS is not ready?

I don't know what ".sh install facility" means.
I don't what you mean when you say "IPS is not ready".
Can you explain in more detail?
As far as I know IPS will definitely be the packaging system for Solaris 11.
    ------------- Edit ----------------
Ooops, I thought you were talking about Solaris 11, but you are probably talking
about the Studio installer. Adding a .sh-based installer on Solaris 11 is technically
possible. I'm not really in a position to say for sure if it will be done or not.
We are actively working on making SS12.2 available in IPS, but it's not there yet.

Please do not jump to conclusions and make assumptions here like 'when will people finally get it??'.  I never said it was a benchmark.  I have also seen many examples of where it's results do not go with conventional performance.  I have a Radeon 9000 that goes faster on glxgears than a Geforce FX 5600 running Nouveau.  Which is the faster card?  The FX by miles.  It is not a benchmark as it can not be compared between configurations.  What I know is that on this individual system, from prior experience over many years when 3D acceleration is working glxgears gets between 300 and 400 fps.  When it is not working it gets less than 10.  That is a fact but does not mean it is benchmarkable.  Yes, a Quake 3 timedemo (I have these numbers too and they very much correlate to glxgears performance for this system given just how slow it is) would be a benchmark but when it runs less than 0.1fps and even the 2D rendering means that navigating the menu is impossible, there just isn't the time to find out.  Hence if playing around with drivers on this system I would use glxgears to check that 3D acceleration is working but not to benchmark.  Glxinfo does not give you all this evidence.
But to clarify, I wouldn't use glxgears as a benchmark, benchmarking is different and I do a lot of that too.

  • IDCS Workflow: save the original file or the packaged folder?

I am using IDCS on Windows XP Professional Ver. 2002 Service Pack 3.
I am wondering if after I have packaged a file, should I delete the original file or the packaged folder? I work on a network so space is limited, so I need to save my linked graphics in an area accessible to others (who don't have InDesign). So basically I have the location of the graphics saved, the original file linked to the original graphics and the packaged folder that has copies of the original graphic files. I am fairly new to InDesign and I want to keep my files organized.
    Thanks.

The very safest step would be to burn the package to disk and file it, then delete the package folder from the server.
That way you don't have lots of duplicated images that may or may not be in sync, and you have a backup copy of the file as it existed, along with links as they were, if you need them.

  • Is Solaris 10 apache package fips-140-2 compatible?

I've been going around and around with a remote sys admin that insists that we use the Solaris 10 apache package for our webserver. At first glance, it does not appear to be fips compatible. He points to the "crypt" command as being compatible and therefore concludes that apache is too. If apache has been updated to use newer OpenSSL it could be but the Solaris 10 included OpenSSL is version 0.9.7d which does not appear to include SHA-256 or other fips hashes.

    Hi,
for a FIPS-140 version of OpenSSL libraries you need to update to at least Solaris 11.2.
    Regards,

  • Solaris 10 x86 package database corruption

After installing Solaris 10 3/05 s10_74L2a X86 (version as described in /etc/release) I find that the package database file /var/sad/install/contents appears to be corrupt.
If I do a "pkginfo -l <package name>" command to view the details of a package I get an error like this:
    pkginfo -l SUNWaccr
pkginfo: ERROR: bad entry read in contents file
    pathname: /usr/apache/tomcat/webapps/tomcat-docs/servletapi/javax/servlet/ServletRequest.html
problem: unable to read content info
If I add a package, say from the Companion CD, it to gives the error.
    I cannot remove packages either.
I have re-installed and tried the pkginfo command immediately - without adding any packages.
    Anybody experienced this?

    what's your DHCP server configuration?
type dhtadm -P and that will print the configuration of the dhcp table and all your macros.
On another note, I also have a blade server (3Up CMU-4) that has USB keyboard and mouse, even if the interface is PS/2 (converted internally to USB). Solaris will not recognize the keyboard and mouse when installing or booting, but after the kernel is loaded I can use them OK. I do get the keyboard profile error and I think it is related to the fact that there is no PS/2 k/m enabled. The only way that I found that I could use the mouse in the graphical interface was to use a USB keyboard with a hub and connect a USB mouse to the keyboard, Anybody has any explanation for this behavior?

  • Solaris 8 patches added to Solaris 9 patch cluster and vice versa

Has anyone noticed this? On the Solaris 8 and 9 patch cluster readmes, it shows sol 9 patches have been added to the sol 8 cluster and sol 8 patches have been added to the sol 9 cluster. what's the deal? I haven't found any information about whether or not this is a mistake.

    Desiree,
Solaris 9's kernel patch 112233-12 was the last revision for that particular patch number. The individual zipfile became so large that it was subsequently supplanted by 117191-xx and that has also been supplanted when its zipfile became very large, by 118558-xx.
Consequently you will never see any newer version than 112233-12 on that particular patch.
What does <b>uname -a</b> show you for that system?
Solaris 8 SPARC was similarly effected, for 108528, 117000 and 117350 kernel patches.

  • Where can i find solaris 11 SUNWscpux package. needed for netbackup

i am installing netbackup master/media server on solaris 11 11/11 sparc. i need to backup an exchange 2010 server using GRT recovery. this depends on a netbackup process on the solaris side called, nbfsd. this process will not start because it is looking for
librpcsos.so.1. as you can see below when i try to run it by hand:
    nbfsd -d -v 5 -j 123 -B rgex03_123456789
ld.so.1: nbfsd: fatal: librpcsoc.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
from what i can tell this library is included in the SUNWscpux package which is the old /usr/ucblib and /usr/ucb/bin stuff.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/816-5173/librpcsoc-3libucb.html
i cannot seem to find this package on the solaris 11 installation iso i downloaded.
does anyone know where i can find this package? i know netbackup shouldn't be linking against this obsolete package that is probably going away soon but i need to get this up and running.
thanks in advance for any help.

i figured out how to get the ucb compatibility package installed on solaris 11 and now netbackup is happy.
i searched the solaris 11 package site at:
    http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/en/index.shtml
for the library that was misssing and saw the package name is:
    compatibility/ucb
    the command:
    pkg install compatibility/ucb
    installed the package for me.

  • Blade100 and Solaris 8 cdrom seek after install

I just loaded my new SunBlade 100 with Solaris 8. Everything else on the box works great and the install was seamless. Problem is, about every 10 minutes or so, especially after the machine has been idle, the cdrom seeks(even with no disk in) and while it is seeking, the box freezes for about 10 seconds until the cdrom is finished doing it's thing. Any ideas??

it might be something to do with the powersave mode that is selected.
    look at /usr/openwin/bin/dtpower
see what mode you have it set to..

  • How can I update to latest Solaris NTP 4  package?

I am facing difficult challenge on this.
There is a requirement to run the NTP version 4, I Understand the package involved is SUNWntp4S. But in all the patch bundles installed we have not been able to upgrade the current version, i.e V3
Tried to see if we can get a application to serve the version 4 protocol but there is a concern on how to implement the free version on a procudtion system.
Are there any other methods that you can suggest.
    Thanks in advance.

You may want to review the patch cluster strategy document on OTN:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/solaris-patching-strategy-257476.pdf
The main information to be aware of is mentioned on page 10:
Because the Oracle Solaris Update Patch Bundles don't contain new packages introduced in an
Oracle Solaris Update Release, new functionality that depends upon such new packages is not
available in the Oracle Solaris Update Patch Bundles.
This means that you must upgrade your system to get the new NTP4 functionality. Patches can only be applied to existing packages. New packages must be installed by an upgrade (LiveUpgrade is recommended).
