Adding quotes to external text object?

Hi all,
I am trying to pull information from an external source and have some of the objects that are receiving this data be shown with quotation marks around them. I know how to put them around basic text fields but when a text field is an object, I get lost. Here is what my code looks like:
ainfo_song = [oacisClipTitleArtist,oacisClipTitleTitle];
ainfo_album = ['Album:',oacisClipTitleAlbum];
songInfo = new Array();
songInfo[0] = ainfo_song;
songInfo[1] = ainfo_album;
So, in this example, I need quotes to go around the information pulled in for "oacisClipTitleAritst" as well as "oacisClipTitleTitle". I know this is possible and I'm just slipping up on the syntax. When I try to change it to '"oacisClipTitleArtist"' it nullifies the object and turns it into text so it longer pulls in the external info.

You concatenate text with the + operator.
ainfo_song = ['"' + oacisClipTitleArtist + '"', '"' + oacisClipTitleTitle+ '"'];

SAVE_TEXT problem in adding new text identifier to an existing text object

I have an existing text object "ZEANR" which stores 9 long text data with identifiers 1 to 9. I want to add a new long text to that text object with id 10. when I use SAVE_TEXT function (with same parameters as others except the ID is set to "0010"), it throws an exception saying : "0010" text identifier is not defined for Text object "ZEANR". How can we append more long texts to an existing object ? I Have tried to change the insert parameter of the SAVE_TEXT function but it didn't work with both cases. I am getting the exception at perform chech_key --> perform check_id of the SAVE_TEXT function.
if someone knows the answer I will be preciated. thanks in advance.

The text ID specified in the parameter ID or text header (field TDID) should exist in table TTXID. It must be defined there with the text module object.
Go to transaction SE75, select "Text Objects and IDs", Change. Find your text object (ZEANR) in the list and double click. Choose create. Add a new text id (0010) and description. Save.

Object with External Text

I am new to Flash/ActionScript and hope I can explain this
problem, because I am completely lost as to what went wrong. I am
working on a hurricane tracker.
First I have comboBoxes with a list of storm names, when
selected an XML file is loaded and tracks the storm, using
different color mc's for the storm's intensity.
Then I have some buttons that when clicked, pop-up a white
background and load some external text.
The problem is that both of these work, until one of the
storms in the comboBox is selected, then the pop-up will not work.
I'm sorry for the inability to phase this in
ActionScript-speak, but appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

Can you attach some code wrt the combobox and the buttons and
how they command other movie elements?

Text objects behave badly in 10.0.0.495

I don't believe what I'm seeing ;-) so want to ask if others
see this.
Adding a vector text object to the canvas should draw a box
whose position reflects where the text actually sits. In my
experience -- possibly after the updates that just arrived today to
make 10.0.0.495 -- the outline of the object and the text don't
always move precisely together: the outline box can appear
disconnected from the text.
Let's say I place several text objects using 14pt bold
verdana. I place an object then type some text. I repeat that three
or four times. Now I move some of those boxes vertically with the
mouse. Once I've done this for a while I might get an object whose
blue (or red) outline is drawn (in "full" view) *above* the text.
And when the width of a text box is just barely enough to contain
its text on one line, the text might be *on* the bottom border
rather than centered top to bottom *within* the border. Or the text
might be just so slightly too far right of the left border (as
though there were a space before the text). All of these
displacements can be "fixed" by widening the object.
The behavior is very annoying. FW this way is almost useless.
I'm using Windows the CS4. I don't believe I saw this behavior
until the recent updates. I am not a long-time FW user but am
accustomed to this type of software.

moves and shifts on it's own into seemingly random places.

I posted this behavior to Adobe's feedback / bug mechanism
just after starting this thread. I had a good exchange with what
I'd guess is a QA person Thursday. I shared screen pics showing the
displacement between frame and text; they seem to accept this is
real. Switching on grids and snap to grid, then moving a text
object left and right repeatedly, is a way to reproduce the
behavior. But it takes some work. I've had no word since Saturday.
Toggling bold or some other attribute seems to snap the text
and frame back into sanity.

Automatically update of quotation item external text

with repository explorer we found for Busisness Object "Customer Quote" that the element to use to force a value in external text could be Item.ItemTextCollection.Text.TextContent.
Studio Compiler return the error message "Identifier 'TextContent' is read-only and cannot be changed" when I try to write a value there using the script Event-BeforeSave.
The code inserted in the script il like this:
this.Item.ItemTextCollection.Text.TextContent = "TEST TEST TEST";
Could you tell me if I'm using the wrong element or I'm using the correct element but the way to use this is different?
If the element is correct, which is the right code to write a value in it?
If we try to use another solution for reach our scope and we try to transfer our custom fields created with studio, How can we extend wsdl file of the IFlow CustomerQuoteProcessingSalesOrderRequestOut?

Text Object with a Paramter Field in It

think I am losing my mind. I have a text object on my report for the 'From' and 'To' dates on a report. So that the spacing works between the words, I add a text object to my report and type the word "From" (without quotes). Then, I drag the start date into the field next to the word From. Then I type "To" and insert the ending date.
I right justify the contents of the field. I position the object on the right side of the report (not right at the margins about 1/4" in).
Just above this combined field, is a special field with the print date. It is also right justified and the two fields are right aligned.
The problem is when the report prints, the combined field isn't truly right justified. There are what appears to be extra spaces in it. The fields look similar to this...

They should be perfectly aligned based on the CR layout. I have done some testing. If I remove the text and just leave the dates in the text object, I have the same results. It looks like it has something to do with the brackets that get placed around the parameter field when it is placed inside the text object.

Has anyone else run across this? I have noticed this on several of my reports and decided to try and find a solution.
Could it be a variable font issue? The problem goes away if I use Lucida Console (a fixed width font). It is somewhat better but not perfect with Verdana as the font. It is horrible when using Arial. I can't believe this is an issue that others have not run across. I searched the forum with no luck.

With the help of one of our programmers, he suggested using a Trim function in case there were extra spaces in the field. So this is what I ended up doing.
Created a formula with the following:
"Report Range " + Trim (totext({?datdeb})) + " to " + Trim (totext({?datfin}))
?datedeb = beginning date parameter
?datefin = ending date parameter
By using the trim function, the extra spaces that were inserted into the field were removed.
Go figure! Oh well... At least there is a solution.

How can I embed a text field inside a text object in a fillable form?

I am a new user of LiveCycle and am slowly figuring things out. I don't really understand any of the scripts-- thatlevel is way beyod me. I am hoping that someone can tell me an easy way to insert a fillable text field into a text object. I have been assigned a huge project of converting some very old Word forms into fillable PDF forms. I have done okay with many of them, but ran into a snag with some of the form letters that our employees need to fill out. Basically, there is a block of text (the body of the letter) in which employees will need to be able to type in a date that the recipient of the letter must respond by. I have read up on floating fields and thought that was the solution to my problem, but it seems that floating fields are really just meant to be filled from a data source rather than having info typed into them.
Can anyone help-- I am desperate at this point. There has to be an easy way to insert a fillable text field object or a Date/Time object into a block of text so that the surrounding text will expand and contract around the length of the date entered (this is important, as many of these letters pertain to legal matters and cannot have blank spaces in them).

You can split your text object into different parts and place text fields inbetween the parts. With a little manuvering, you can make it look good.
An alternative is to place text field(s) outside the letter body (and set the visibilaty to screen only). Use these to populate the floating field.
or
script the external text fields (or the subform containing them) to be "hidden" using the "Preprint" event, then revealing them ("visible") again using the "Postprint" event.

I'm in the same boat as you, inasmuchas I taught myself LC. I've tried to replicate your issue. I'm trying to understand where the issue actually lies.
First, I created a new document to test. I dragged the text field onto the document and stretched it to accomodate what I was going to type and entered: http://www.google.com/something
This works as intended.
Next I tried a link similar to yours in our own intranet: http://intranet/WebPages/support.aspx
That also worked.
Now, for what you're actually working with: a SharePoint document.
I tried to paste a link to a document that I created on our Sharepoint site. The link failed! I noticed that the end of the link was truncated (something like 7 characters). So, I tried a shorter link. That worked!
What else is happening when they click the link? Are they simply being asked to "check out" the document? Are you getting an error message like "an error has occured while opening the page"?

Text Object Error in Adobe forms

Hello Friends,
I am trying to include a text object in Adobe PDF-based print form.
In the context, I have created a node for the text. I chose the Text Type as Include Text. I am able to choose the required Text Object and Text ID from the respective search helps. When trying to activate the form, I am getting an error saying that I did not specify a text name. I tried to rectify this error but could not do so.
Please help me out on how to rectify this error.

Are you giving the text name in single quotes.

How to use an instance of a text object

Hello All
I have an animated open in which animated panel reveal video and text behind them, I need to add second text object to the animation that is going to be on top of the animated panel this text object I want it in the same place as the text to be revealed but I want to scale to make it look as if it was scaled (magnified) up as the panels move across the screen to reveal the video and text, but I want to use only one text object. In after effect I can accomplish this by precompossing the text then adding the comp text in a main comp and scaling the copy of the text comp but I only have to change one text layer. So what I want is to change edit one object in motion instead of duplicating the text layer and then editing two layers instead of one.

Hi all
I found the the answer to my question, but thanks for your help anyways.
here it is
added a layer then
added a text object (position size etc...)
selected the layer
went to objects menu and selected replicate (short cut letter " L ")
I needed to scale the copy (replicate) of the text object
so I scaled the replicator object inside the replicated layer
I had to move it to compensate for the scale
since I wanted to use it like a reflection across the panels
I added a copy of the panels to the replicated layer (the copy of the original text layer)
then added an image mask to the replicated layer
turned off the panels inside the replicated layer
selected the image mask
from the layers tab I draged the turn off panels object and droped it in the small drop box with the title "image"
in the image mask tab
set the source channel to Luminance everything else at default
and that is it

Can I import Powerpoint text objects into CP as seperate layers?

I have a Powerpoint presentation I would like to convert to a CP7 project. I imported the Powerpoint and checked the 'sync' checkbox. In CP I added voice over to each slide. Now I want to time the fade-in of each of my bullets to the audio track. However, the individual text layers that exist in Powerpoint are not brought into CP as seperate layers. This makes it extremly difficult to time the bullets to the audio track because the audio is in CP and I have to implement the timing in Powerpoint. Is there any way to import the Powerpoint text objects into CP as individual layers?

Not possible, each ppt slide will be turned in sort of a movie slide that
keeps timing and animations. Maybe you need a ppt plugin instead of a full
authoring tool?

External text issue

I have tried to look up this issue in the flash help,
lynda.com and here with no luck.
I have an issue with external text that I import. The text
loads fine but when I click to go to another frame in the same
timeline the previous text stays and the new text renders over the
previous text. How do I delete the previous text file when I click
to go to another section.

if you only change your urlrequest and keep the same
textfield, loader and listener you should have no problem.
otherwise, you're apt to have problems unless you properly account
for those objects you're not re-using.
p.s. unless you embedFonts, you're users are not likely to
see that font.

Layer Source Text linking to external text. (no code in doc!)

I've seen linking to text documents with code snippets in it.
So that means the external text document must contain bits of scripting.
I would like to link to txt documents (or csv) that do not contain code.
Total noob users must be able to link a text to a After Effects project.
I have a website data catcher which exports CSV values.
It would be ideal if After Effects can hoover up the text and put certain pieces into certain source texts.
We're talking automated sports cards here.
Is this possible without adding code to a text dump?
Or is this just impossible?

The basic idea is to use something like this:

The text file does need to contain legal JavaScript code, but it could be as simple as this for a text layer:
"this is a test"
You generally want to wrap the $.evalFile() in a try/catch so that you can have an error string like "Not found." display if your path is bad, like this:

OK. I don't think you need to use LoadVariablesNum - although
I guess that should work (I don't use these anymore I always use
LoadVars)
If you see the trace working but nothing displaying then you
just need to associate you variable with a dynamic text field on
stage

Accessibility on a text object

Can someone tell me how accessibility works for the text object please?
Does the screen reader ignore the object? Or does it read the text contained in the field? Or do you have to copy the text into the "custom text" field under the accessibility tab?

I'm hoping for the first option since I have hundreds of fields on this particular form and to copy the text into the custom field is doubling the work, and worthless if the screen reader ignores it anyway.
