Additions, enhancements, announcements ....

NetFlix, Sky Sports, Enhanced Menus, more OD Players    ..... all very well & good ....
.... but how about FIXING the ongoing problems and getting the offering to do what it says on the tin ...... and whilst you're about it, sort out Customer Service !

I just wrote a CmprsdArray class. It accepts an array of any primitive type and compresses it using java.util.zip compression and java.nio to get a byte-array view. It records the original size and type so it can reverse the process. The current decompress requires a cast:
int[] ints = . . . // create an array of ints
// dehydrate when temporarily done with them
CmprsdArray cmpInts = new CmprsdArray( ints );
ints = null;
// later, rehydrate
ints = (int[]) cmpInts.decompress();What I want is the ability to do that without a cast and in a way that lets my decompress methods throw an Error if they are asked for the wrong type.
Now some specific comments:
silkm: Every operation that returns a reference to Object expecting you to cast to the original type could benefit. My decompress(), clone(), every get() from a Collection, etc. Its not a case of a method choosing its return, its a case of the compiler (not JVM) choosing a method where the return matches. Just another use of strong typing.
Grant: That link points to a very well-informed discussion, but I'm proposing something a little larger than the covariant return. Explain why a) your argument is not an argument against argument/parameter list pairs, and b) why this is hard-to-maintain code:
// as proposed:
  int x, int y = whatever.getLocation();
// as now:
  Point p = whatever.getLocation();
  int x = p.getX();
  int y = p.getY();jschell: Let's call this java 2 (generalized emitter/receiver lists). A java 1.5 jvm will not be able to run this code. On the other hand, java 2 would be able to run java 1.5 code, which is what I call "backward compatibility." After all, you can't use inner classes with jdk 1.0. The only code this "breaks" is code that uses a method as a void where another type is declared:
  foo(); // j2 compile-time error
  int foo() { // . . .
  // you'd have to add:
  void foo() { int j = foo(); }
  // or change the call to:
  int j = foo();

  • Enhancement to ADF ViewObjects

    An Additional enhancement request regarding ADF/BC4J.
    i would like to have ViewObjects that has INSERT MODE and QUERY MODE similar to Oracle Forms.
    When an Orcale Form is launched, a default new blank record is displayed on the screen and the only time data is fetched from the database is when u enter query mode and then execute the query. And that is using only one Datablock.
    In Oracle ADF/JSF, we can replicate that by setting the ViewObject maxfetchsize to zero upon creation of the ViewObject object. When the page associated with the viewObject launches, I will just execute a CreateInsert on pageLoad (invokeAction). To enter Query mode, I will have a backing Bean action that resets the maxfetch size to a positive number and then execute the query.
    Then I override the ViewObject's executeQuery() method so that after calling "super.executeQuery()", is will reset the fetch size again to zero.
    Now, my request is if the ViewObject can have this functionality BUILT-IN so that I won't have to create a custom backing bean action.

    Anton

  • Nokia 6300 Enhancement settings

    Can anybody help
    When i connect a headset to my phone nothing happens.
    If i go to settings and enhancements it only has charger
    I have compared it to other similar phones and they seem to have additional enhancements such as headset, loopset etc.
    Can i download these anywhere or is it something simple i can do on my phone.
    I updated the software and it made no difference.

    i updated my software. two main problems. no headset recognition - i went to shops and tries out. nothing works.
    other problem - this is a big one. opera works on my phone, but even after having advansed gprs connection and connecting the phone to computer with a data cord, it refuses to detect the modem - so can't connect to internet wit this.
    also it is giving problems in accepting the data card.
    btw, battery life has improved like anything.
    give a solution on this headset and moden problem...
    thanks,

  • Camera Raw forum announcements

    There is a forum-wide announcement in the above-mentioned forum, which says that a beta is available. Meanwhile, the Overview tab has an additional (newer)  announcement that the full software is now available.
    As I have Discussions set as the default tab, I'm still led to believe the beta is current (and only found out about the new software by accident). This doesn't seem a very smart/consistent way to make announcements on the new forum software.

    Moderators and some employees have control over announcements. However, the moderator's are volunteers and do this in their spare time. Most employees that visit the forums do so on their own time as well. Hopefully, your post will stir one of the more knowledgeable hosts that visit the raw forum to adjust the announcement appropriately. Thanks for the heads up.

    Checkwriter/Deposit Advice:
    Oracle will de-support the Live Checkwriter and Deposit Advice for US and Canada beginning with EOY Phase 1 in September. Archive Checkwriter and Deposit Advice will continue to be supported. What this means is that new code changes and bug fixes will not be tested on the Live Checkwriter and Deposit Advice. Additionally, enhancements made to the Archive version will NOT be made for the Live version.
    *Note: If you would like to view the output of the archive version of this report without needing pre-printed stationery, try the following in a test instance:
    disable the trigger pay_action_parameters_ari
    insert a row in pay_action_parameters with the following value -
    name=PRINT_REPORT_LABELS
    value=PAYUSCDA
    enable the trigger pay_action_parameters_ari
    Run the report. This will print the labels and make it easier to check the report without needing pre-printed stationery.

  • Where do I get version 3.4

    I have to admit that I do feel rather stupid right now, but I knew that I used favorites in Adobe (Community) Help before, and this was one thing that made the Adobe help system somewhat bearable. But I had to upgrade to a new computer (hardware problems) and now I cannot find this feature any more. I managed to start my old computer and started help there and much to my astonishment I saw that I have/had 3.4.0973 installed there.
    I tried everything (Checking for updates manually, deinstalling and reinstalling, googled and searched forums and blogs searched adobe labs etc.) but I cannot find a way to update.
    There are even Instructions on how to use 3.4 in adobe blogs
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/history-favorites-and-one-click-bookmarking-in-the-adob e-community-help-client.html
    but I'm stuck with 3.3 as others are. Still I cannot recall how I came into possession of 3.4 on my old machine.
    Please someone help I really need at least a somewhat better help-system. (It still was slow under 3.4 and not organized to my liking and the contents could really be more inspired.... But every little bit helps.)

    Hi:  I sincerely apologize for the lack of communication on this.  Here's the short story:  version 3.5 will be released very, very soon -- possibly as early as next week.  This update will be an auto-update and will feature a number of enhancements and performance improvements.
    Here's the long story:  we released version 3.4 in December but had to pull the release after 24 hours due to server-side architectural issues. In 3.4, we attempted improve performance by consolidating a number of disparate webservice calls into a single call at start-up. However, we soon ran into a serious issue with the webservice that required that we provision a new server cluster and rework various parts of the server-side services. Note: 3.4 itself was not an issue however, various webservices like commenting, rating, and related links were not available. So ... after much back-n-forth with our IT dept. and *extensive* testing, we are now very close to re-releasing the udpate.  However, the team felt strongly that, given the amount of time that has lapsed, that we should try to deliver more value by including additional enhancements and feature requests. The biggest change in 3.5 is that we have removed the "Local Content update" dialog box -- we have moved the notification to the footer and the home screen and will download the content as a background process.  We got numerous complaints from users that the current workflow was too disruptive and that we should simply 'get out of the way and let users get to the content as quickly as possible.'  We have implemented similar improvements to the application update process itself (i.e. no more annoying/confusing dialog boxes) so future udpates to the app itself will be as unobtrusive as possible.  There are number of other enhancements on the way as well...
    As I said, we are very very close to release - and I *sincerely* apologize for the lack of communication/status on 3.4.  I will post an announcement here as soon as  3.5 is released along with complete release notes and details on all of the fixes, enhancements, etc.
    Sincerely,
    Mark Nichoson

  • Dunning notices not printed

    Hello Gurus,
    I've been trying to run transaction F150. before running this i manually cleared all the dunning data in the vendor master except for the dunning procedure, configured in FBMP.
    I run this and get the following message.
    "Credit memo 15XXXXXXXXXX/2008/001 has new dunning level 0 . Without invoice reference
    >Minimum charges and dunning interest             Phase III

                 0 dunning notices have been printed
    End dunning printout 12/14/07 / DUNN1

    my credit memo was created about 10 days back - with pay immediately payment term
    General data entered in the dunning procedure is as follows:
    Dunning Interval in Days: 1
    No. of Dunning levels: 4
    Total Due items from dunning level: 0
    Min. days in arrears(acct): 1
    Line item grace period: 0
    Interest indicator: 01
    standard transaction dunnnig: checked
    Dun Special g/l transactions: checked
    dunnign level: 4
    for dunning level 1:
    Days in arrear: 1
    Calculate interest? : Uncheckd
    Always dun?: Checked
    Print all items: Checked
    Payment deadline: 0
    Please help me out in resolving this, i need to print out a few sample of dunning letter(standard dunning notices)
    waiting for responses. ..
    thanks

    Dear Michelle,
    As of SAP Note 843058, the handling of vendor credit memos without invoice reference was changed because (according to the documentation) the system response for credit memos in the invoice reference doesn´t depend on whether the credit memo is a vendor credit memo or a customer credit memo.
    Since the enhancements of SAP Note 843058, a vendor credit memo is only set to the dunning level according to the arrears grid if it is valued (value 'V' in the BSEG-REBZG invoice reference field).
    Vendor credit memos without an entry in the invoice reference field receive the dunning level of the dunning notice, in other words,  the highest dunning level of the items.
    If no other items are dunned, the credit memos receive dunning level zero and it is not dunned.
    You also want vendor credit memos to be dunned according to the arrears grid.
    There are three options described in SAP Note 957556 to dun vendor credit memos, anymore. Please take a look at the description in area "Solution" of SAP Note 957556.
    Depending on SAP Note 843058 there is an additional enhancement concerning dunning of vendors in SAP Note 954873.
    Since the enhancements of SAP Note 843058 for dunning levels for vendor invoices, the field for the days in arrears for vendor invoices is omitted, and this should not be the case.
    SAP Note 954873 offers a correction to this situation.
    Regards,
    Paulo Evaristo

  • Error while creating an Item Proposal

    Hello Experts,
    When I am trying to create an Item proposal (T Code VA51 for order type PV) , after entering the Description , Validity dates, Material and Qty, while saving system is issuing an hard error " Sold to Party is not maintained in the sales area".
    While creating an item proposal why would the system check for the Sold to party? I have checked the forum for such an error message but could not find any. Please help me in resolving this issue.
    Regards
    Sai

    Thanks for your inputs. There is some additional enhancement in the system to check the sold to party during order processing in the program SAPMV45A. That is causing this error.

    US Check/Deposit Advice XML
    There are some additional dependencies for this patch that were not
    originally communicated. Applying the EOY Phase 1 patch first satisfies
    these dependencies. If there is a need to apply this patch prior to
    applying EOY Phase 1 we are exploring possible alternative
    pre-requisites and will send out a notice late next week with more
    information.
    * 11i one-off Patch 6399100 released 21-Sep-2007
    * R12 will be part of Release Update (RUP) 12.0.4
    Oracle will de-support the Live Checkwriter and Deposit Advice for US
    and Canada beginning with 2007 EOY Phase 1. Archive Checkwriter and
    Deposit Advice will continue to be supported. What this means is that
    new code changes and bug fixes will not be tested on the Live
    Checkwriter and Deposit Advice. Additionally, enhancements made to the
    Archive version will NOT be made for the Live version.
    Desupport of Standard Tax Interface
    Oracle no longer supports the Standard Tax interface. Taxes will
    continue to be calculated and tax rate changes from the Vertex Data
    Updates will continue. New code changes and bug fixes will not be tested
    on the Standard Interface and we cannot guarantee that all functionality
    will continue to work. Additionally, enhancements made to taxes will NOT
    be made for the Standard Tax Interface. We strongly recommend that you
    upgrade immediately to the Enhanced Tax interface.

  • SAP R/3 4.6/c and 4.7

    hai what is the main diff between both of these to versions can anybody pls list out some differences

    Hi Karnam,
    SAP 4.7 was with built in WAS and CIN patches are included and Unicode came into picture in 4.7 onwards.
    SAP 4.7 has all the features such as development workbench, transport management system, monitoring, versioning and business object repository of already existing SAP 4.6C.
    Web Application Server6.20 of 4.7 includes all the features of SAP Basis of SAP 4.6C.
    <u><b>Differences:</b></u>
    SAP 4.7 has a more structured approach as compared to SAP 4.6C from a technical perspective. It is based on mySAP.com technology, which is actually the Web Application Server 6.2C. This not only includes SAP Basis Technologies with their latest advancements but also the new features of SAP Web AS 6.20.
    SAP 4.7 is more structured even from a functional perspective as this version has been developed after functional and infrastructure developments of earlier SAP R/3 4.6C.
    In SAP 4.7 the functional and infrastructure developments are made on separate levels. The functional developments are made in the Enterprise Extensions and infrastructure developments are made in the Enterprise Core unlike SAP 4.6C in which both the developments take place within the systems.
    SAP in its Web AS has additional enhancements in the form of package concept, global parameterization with business configuration sets, Unicode compliance and accessibility that are not present in 4.6C.
    SAP 4.7 Core supports the above-mentioned enhancements that SAP 4.6C does not.
    SAP 4.7 unlike 4.6C has Enterprise Extensions that can be separately deployed and have their own releases.

  • Camera Raw Photo Processing Challenge

    No pressure, just a bit of fun here.  In a recent thread I posted a raw file to illustrate a sky color issue, and several people showed an interest in processing it into an image using techniques they often use.
    Let's do it again, with a better image this time.
    Imagine you've been contracted to do a shoot of a Dark Charcoal Mustang GT for a brochure.  You drive the car to a scenic spot on a pretty day, take some photos, and now you're back at your computer with the raw files.  Your goal is to produce the following:
    A 2400 x 1600 pixel sRGB image that makes the car look great.
    The image might have elements you want to remove, colors you want to improve, shapes you want to distort...  Do anything you want to try to make the car appealing - mild to wild!
    I've posted a Canon EOS-40D raw file here:
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/IMG_1728.zip
    Open this image using Camera Raw, tweak it as you see fit, and post the 2400 x 1600 pixel result in this thread.
    Have fun!
    -Noel
    P.S., here's my result.  You might want to wait until you finish until you look at my interpretation.  Or look at it now and one-up me!  All in fun!

    Noel Carboni wrote:
    Rob Cole:  Also nice work!  You also chose a bit warmer color balance than I did, though not quite as warm as Yammer's.  However, in your case the sky and clouds seem to have less depth than I would like (e.g., the subject of my other thread on sky colors being a bit washed out).  And, like Yammer's, the tone curve in the darker parts almost hides all the tire detail, though as I mentioned above maybe this is actually a plus.  You did also bring out the depth of the reflections in the surface of the car nicely.  Looks like you distorted the image as I did to both level things a little and offset some of the perspective distortion.  P.S., I didn't figure out which buttons to press on your site to download the full resolution image.  But I was able to get it full screen, which was enough to judge quality.
    I note that neither of you chose to use Content Aware Fill to get rid of the poles in the image.
    I don't mind "criticism", as long as I *think* we're looking at the same thing - the business of color management really grinds me though - lots of people think they understand what's supposed to happen, but that's not whats happening but they don't know it, and they think others are messed up or wrong, and maybe they are, but nobody really knows... - been there too many times.
    My take on your take:
    - I agree the sky needed more work, but also: the overexposure/clipping made it difficult to bring out cloud detail without it looking artificial (next time drop exposure by 1/3 or so when shooting).
    - I like the pinch of warmth in the background (most of the clouds, and foliage), but not in the car nor the road .
    - tire detail: agree again - I enhanced it a smidge in the next version (see link below).
    - I applied default distortion correction (via profile-base lens corrections), but no perspsective adjustment - mostly just rotated it (counter-clockwise).- I'm waiting for Lr4 to remove telephone poles;-}
    Note: The next version:
    (additional enhancements done entirely in NX2)
    You may need to clear your cache if you recently viewed the previous version.

  • Case management: Partner confirmation and subsequent case creation

    Hi,
    When i confirm a partner and then click case, the partner number does NOT reflect when the case details open. Is this the standard functionality or am I missing to activate or configure something here. For instance when i create a lead, the partner confirmed before gets automatically reflected in the lead details. In this issue of case, I am right now manually adding the partner. Please clarify on this.
    My second query is about triggering an action (mail) to the related partner when i 'save' the case. Any input here would be appreciated.
    Thank You,
    Amar.

    Hello Amar,
    I'm afraid that I can't add much additional value here. For your second point about emails I would normally suggest OneOrder PPF (Post Processing Framework) actions. But I assume that these only work in One Order documents and not for the case. Perhaps someone else can confirm?
    And I am not aware of any additional enhancements to Case Management, except for some Investigate Case Management functionality rolled out in CRM 7.0 targeted at the public sector (e.g., government and law enformance agencies). My recommendation would be to look at the new IT-IL based Incident/Service Request  IT Service Management functionality available in CRM 7.0 which provides a lot more power and flexibility than the old Case Management (or Service Ticket) functionality.
    Best regards,
    John
