Address Book - Where is Gmail ?

Under Preferences/Accounts, there is a check box for Yahoo and iCloud but none for Gmail or Google. What's up with that, and is it possible to connect my Gmail contacts with Address Book? Thanks for any help.

Go into Help in Address Book and there's a "Sync contacts with Google Contacts" entry
Note that they recommend keeping Google contacts sync OFF if you're using iCloud to sync contacts.
If you select the "On My Mac" account you should see a "Synchronize with Google" checkbox. Check the Help for further instructions.

I already have three address books created for me by Thunderbird. I add all new addresses to one of those but am afraid to delete the other address books because some of their addresses are not repeated in my "main" address book. So if I don't delete all the names in one of the existing books, I need to create an empty book that will not mix the addresses with those in another address book. HOW DO I CREATE A NEW, EMPTY ADDRESS BOOK? I want to be able to create various mailing LISTS using the addresses in this new book so I will eventually have a special address book with a variety of mailing lists I can use as I wish.

In 24.4.0 there is no File|New|Address Book. There is File|New|Address Book Contact. How do I create a new address book ?

HT201412 what do you do when your phone numbers no longer have the contact persons name just a number. Also names are missing from the address book where contacts are.

I, too, love everything about my phone. The other day I tried to crash my Z10 by running multiple apps and having videos running in the background. Do you think my Z10 showed any signs of slowing down? Nothing doing! It ran as smooth as silk. I'm very impressed.

Calendar common address book - where is it stored in OID ?

Just a query about the common address book, where in the OID is it located ?
cn=CommonAddressBook,cn=Products,cn=oracleContext doesn't contain users address book.
If I do a uniuser -user -ls -ext -n the result shows the users address book formatted as CAB, yet I can not
find it stored in OID.

The ldapsearch tools are producing LDIF format (RFC 2849) which requires that non ascii values and values with some specific characters be Base64 encoded.
XML is out of these formats that start with a special character with regards to LDIF ('<') and for which values must be base64 encoded.
There are many decoders for base64 encoding.
Alternately, you can use an LDAP API (C or Java) and the value will not be encoded.

I would like to make Gmail my default source for Address Book entries and iCal entries on my Intel Mac running Lion and my iPad. There seems to an 'almost' option in Address Book when setting up for Gmail, however, it only states my mac

I have heard a lot about how the new 2.0 software will work with Microsoft exchange, but i have heard nothing about how it will work with ical and address book, or if gmail users will get any added email benefits.... so someone please give me some good news....

If so, only with Apple's new Me.com service which is replacing their .Mac service. This will provide over the air syncing for contact information and calendar events between iCal and Address Book on a Mac, with the iPhone, and when accessing your Me.com account via Safari on any Mac, or with Safari or a supported browser on a Windows PC. The Me.com account will be push email.
Regarding any added benefits for a Gmail account, I don't believe so, unless Gmail plans on adding some benefits such as push-IMAP account access.

High CPU usage for Mail/Address Book with Exchange/GMail

I reinstalled 10.6 on my MacBook Pro because it since the upgrade from 10.5 performance has been generally lousy and I wanted to make a fresh start. I am finding that my performance problems with Mail (which connects to both Gmail and Exchange) is still poor At all times, even when Mail is not processing any connections to either mail server, it consumes about 25% CPU just being idle. Oddly, Address Book uses 25% minimum CPU at all times. Also, in Address Book, I see the contact list for my Exchange account has the progress meter spinning at all times, even after a full reboot of the computer. My Mail and Contact lists are fully synced up at this point so I am not sure what all the overhead is for. It really drags down general performance of the machine, especially when I attempt to load any complex pages in Safari where I constantly see the pinwheel. This is all pretty troubling since this is a fresh install of the OS and I actually have same problems as I had with Mail before plus I now have new problems with Address Book that I DIDN'T have before. I haven't even turned on Time Machine because after the way it affected performance on my previous install for 15 minutes out of every hour it will surely render my machine useless.

My problem doesn't align exactly with yours, but I'd suggest you try this anyway (especially if you aren't using RSS within Mail - this is sure to blow away any Mail.app RSS feeds):

Address Book sync to Gmail?

I'm running Leopard Mail and Address Book but I'd like Gmail (via the web site) to also have my addresses. There are a lot of them - it would take forever to manage manually. Is there a way to sync them?

If you do not own an iPhone, you may not see the option in Address Book to sync contacts with Google's Gmail. If you are not seeing the option in the preferences of Address Book > General, then read the 3 steps in the follow post on how to enable the Gmail contact option box:

the option to synchronise google mail in the preference pain of my address book does not exist....all i have is the option to synch with yahoo....how do i add google mail...anyone...

Address Book integration with Gmail

Is there a way I can use mac's Address Book in conjunction with Gmail?
I want to set up a group in address book and send them an email from Gmail.

These are the only two applications which do allow you to export contact's to gmail:
- AddressBookToCSV
- Address Book to CSV Exporter
Both will work fine and you can use them for free! Just use the one you like the most!
There are no other options for OSX

Where are my preferences in my address book?

I want to change my contacts so they are all in first letter first name order like they are on my phone. I have googled similiar questions but people have said look up a file and drag it into your desktop. I dont understand this. only just bought a mac and its very confusing. Where are such files? when i open the address book where is the preferences tab or option as I cant even see it?? any help appreciated, spent far too much time on this already.

How to Export Address Book contacts as CSV file for Gmail?

I wish to export some of my Address Book contacts towards Gmail (which i use through the web interface for now) but I don't want to export vcards as i don't trust big brother Google with all the other data (snail mail, phone numbers, birthdays, etc).
I have tried to do the export through Address Book but found no CSV export option.
I've searched the forum for an answer, but to no avail. Some other (paying) websites claim to offer solutions but the "pay before you see" deters me from using them.
Any tip on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Scripts and software also welcome, if shareware/freeware.

Thanks for your answer, but gmail's help specifically states one can import contacts in CSV format and i was looking for a simple batch solution.

ISync / Mail : Gmail Address Book

Hi. I'm having problems syncing the Mac Address Book with my Gmail Addres Book.
I configured my accounts details, and go to iSync and pressed "Sync Now", but nothing happened. The arrowed circle spin for a while, but after that my address book is still empty.

I'm having the same problems: I want to sync my address book to my google account. In the Menu bar, I've got the isync icon but i see a "syncing disabled" grayed out option with no "sync now" option to click. In fact, the only option I can select is "enable mobile me account."
i tried to go to the prefrences, but "enable syncing on this computer" is already selected. Still won't "sync now"
please help!
