Address Resoultion Protocol Questions.

HI
If my router has two different networks connected to two ethernet interfaces and if a host in n/w 1 wants to communicate with a host in n/w 2 how the Address resolution protocol works in the below condition [Assume that all the arp tables of all the hosts and router are empty.]
1. THE DEFAULT GATEWAYS FOR ALL THE HOSTS IN BOTH THE NETWORKS ARE SET TO THEMSELVES.
My questions
1. Will the host in n/w 1 will arp for itself or will it arp for the router or will it arp for the destination. [Remember both the netwros are different]
Please explain the setp by step process. Many thanx

in this case if H1 itself is a gateway and it want to reach H2, source MAC address will be H1s MAC add and destination MAC address will be MAC addr of H2 or MAC addr of intermediate gateway between H1 and H2 if any depending on the below cases.
1. If H1 is directly conected to H2, then when H1 will send ARP broadcast, H2 will send its MAC addr in ARP reply packet.
2. if there is a Layer 3 device acting as gateway between H1 and H2, then H1 will send ARP broadcast message and gateway of H1 will respond with ARP reply with its MAC address because L3 device won't forward broadcast packets to another network. H1 can use this MAC addr to build frame to send it across to H2.

    Bill,
    Soap Address should always should be standard.
    But you can change the action type under the wls binding part
    for example I will provide one sample and it work perfectly at my end.

  • Appleid, recovery email address and security questions were hacked.

    My son's recovery email address and security questions were hacked.  How can we get these changed so he can purchase more apps?  Currently he is being asked to answer security questions that do no pertain to him (like what were you doing on such and such date - he wasn't even born yet).  The email address in the recovery section is r********@answers.com.  We don't know who this is, but it appears they have hacked his account.  He has an itunes balance and I don't want him to lose it.

    You or your son will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

  • ICloud to Mac Address Book - Two Questions

    Okay, I have learned/accepted that iCloud is not the sync'ing deal that MobileMe was (missed that in the fine print as I have been a loyal .mac user from its inception and like the MM syncing). I understand that everything is updated in the cloud and pushed to various devices (for me, iPhone 4S, new iPad and 2009 MBP).  So, how is it possible for my iCloud address book to have more contacts than my MBP address book?  Wouldn't all of the ones in iCloud be pushed to the MBP?  The only thing I can think is that before I understood the concept that there are two address books resident on the MBP, I starting deleting what I thought were duplicates since I wasn't able to merge them due to two different sources.  I could not find a way at that time to tell me which line was from what source.  Then, once I get the two address books matching - mostly to ensure that I am not missing anything in the iCloud one - what purpose does the Mac based address book serve?  I just had a nightmare of dragging various cards from my iCloud address page on the right into the iCloud group on the left and only to realize after doing at least 20 cards that after the first one, the left page registers back up putting the Mac based group across from the iCloud contact list so I dropped many of them into the Mac group instead of the iCloud group. The iCal doesn't maintain a Mac version and an iCloud version, why does the address book?  BTW, all software on all devices is up to date as of this posting.

    Please pardon what may be a silly question.  This is my first ever post...
    I was thinking about deleting "On My Mac" address book per your above instructions, and sticking with the one iCloud contacts.  The problem I am afraid of running into is this:  In iTunes, when I sync contacts, the groups that show available for syncing all come from "On My Mac".  If I delete from the Mac, will that make my "Contacts" icon on my iPad 'dead'?  Thereby, forcing me to log onto iCloud to view my Contacts, instead of a handy shortcut???
    Or will I simply get to forgo the iTunes syncing... and the "contacts" icon on my iPad will reflect what was synced thru iCloud?
    If the latter is true, does that simply mean I will need to recreate my "groups" in iCloud?
    Thanks in advance, I certainly need some guidance.

  • Authorisation of an old account on a new mac, Password not working, no longer have access to that email address, and security question not working. But I do have my mac authorised! ...is there anyway to copy or get authorisation info off it???

    Please help me!!!!
    I have got a new Mac, I am trying to share my itues on it as well as my old mac, I have had two itunes accounts in my life, one is current now (this account) one I have not had access to the email for years. Since I have bought music off both accounts, I wish to play it all on  both my macs. My Old mac has both accounts Authorised fine and all is good.
    My new Mac, I have thios account running fine, but keep getting prompted for the password for my old account, I have no idea what my old password is, I have not had access to that email address for 5 years, and for some strange reason the security question isn't working eaither.
    Since I do still have one Mac where it is Authorised, Is there any file I can copy accross or anyway to get the password out of the OSX 10.6.8 for my old account.
    Secondly, is there anyway to roll both accounts into just my current one.
    Many Thanks in advance for your help.

    I too am having this same problem but I have not seen ANY solutions for it. Looks like Apple is ignoring it!!!!!!!!?

  • Essbase1113 IP Address and Port Questions

    hello,
    everyone, i'm puzzled on a question about essbase.
    it'll be so kind if you give me some suggestions.
    in our project, we install EMP System 1113 on Win Server2003, but it's in local network. there is no problem when we connect it using client tools in local network environment.
    however, we wanna connect the Essbase Server through Internet, we map the server address (such as 10.163.163.163) as an Internet address (such as 111.111.111.111).
    we didn't use VPN such tools, and, the address is just a mapping, if we don't map the port, we couldn't connect the essbase server.
    here comes the question, how do we map the essbase address and port ? i mean which port should we use, so that we could connect it through Internet ?
    thank you so much.
    wish to reply.
    hawk.

    The ports that essbase use are outlined at :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/epm_install_start_here/ch06s05s01.html

  • Line protocol question

    Okay, this might seem like a really stupid question but it's got me stumped.
    What the hell does "line protocol down" mean and how the hell do I fix it? I'm using a Cisco 2500 series router, and it's occuring on serial port 0 on BOTH routers. I've checked, double checked, re double checked, and triple checked (quadruple checked?) the wiring and the physical wiring is fine...
    Can anyone provide any insights to this at all for me? I'd greatly appreciate it.
    TIA

    The line protocol state (up or down) reflects the layer 2 status of the interface. If your serial interface is saying that its state is up/down it means that it knows that it is plugged into something on the interface but that there is a layer 2 connectivity problem.
    The nature of how the router determines the layer 2 status depends somewhat on the type of interface. On Serial interfaces the determination is based on the keepalives. So basically what the router is saying is that keepalives are not working on the router. There are a couple of things that can prevent keepalives on the serial interface, such as different protocols being configured (one end may be Cisco HDLC and the other end is PPP). If it was Frame Relay a mismatch of LMI type may cause it. Given your comment about using 2500 and that both sides are showing protocol down I am going to guesss that you have the routers configured back to back. And I am going to guess that you have not configured clock rate on whichever router has the DCE serial cable connected. When routers are back to back and do not connect to provider equipment, you need one of them to generate clocking (and it needs to be the one with the DCE cable). So check your cables, find which one is DCE, and configure clock rate on that router.

  • Address Book contacts question

    Hi- just wondering if someone can help on this topic before I launch into the unknown!!:
    If I add an Exchange 2007 account into my Apple Address Book, will those email addresses be available when I go to send an email in Apple Mail?
    and so am I right to assume that Mail looks for addresses from:
    1/ my "local" Mac Address Book entries
    2/ my new Exchange contacts
    3/ my Previous Recipients list in Mail
    Lastly, when I choose "add to Address Book" in Mail, where will this contact go- to my "local" address Book on into the Exchange account?
    Thanks for any tips!

    Does your question have anything remotely to do with iWeb 09? This is an iWeb 09 forum - did you not look where you were posting?
    No - so it is not relevant to this forum. Please post in somewhere that is more relevant, such as the iPhone forum or the iPad forum.

  • Modal JDialog protocol question

    Hi!
    Let's say I have a properties dialog, and it has an ok button and a cancel button.
    If the user presses the ok button, then the parent form knows that there are a bunch of properties it needs to update based on what was set on the properties dialog.
    My question is this:
    What is the protocol in Java for letting the parent form know whether the "ok" or "cancel" button was clicked?
    I'm used to other languages like C# for instance, where you have an enumeration called DialogResult. You can set any dialog's DialogResult value to OK, Cancel, etc etc. Then the parent form knows exactly what happened.
    I can't seem to find any uniform way of handling this in Java - so I was wondering if I may have overlooked something.
    Thanks for any replies - and please remember, I'm looking for a standard here, not for suggestions. I've come up with my own ways already - but would just like to be more consistent!
    Thanks a bunch!

    Joel,
    This is what I know of JDialog. The calling thread will continue execution after the show() execution point right after the Dialog is disposed. Normally I use one attibute in my custom JDialog which is called cancelled and is set when the user presses the cancel button or disposes the window. In code this would be something like this:
    boolean modal = true;
    CustomDialog cd = new CustomDialog(modal);
    cd.show();
    // User changes preferences in dialog, thread waits
    if(cd.cancelled)
    // User pressed cancel
    else
    // save settings

  • Account hacked; rescue address and security questions changed

    what recourse do i have to fix this? i haven't used my account in ages, since i moved away from iphone. i just signed back in to update my mac, and all my info has been changed. what can i do and where do i start? the rescue address is changed and so are my security questions.

    You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
    They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Link State Routing Protocol Question

    "In LSP, one router in each area is designated as the authoritative source of routing information (called a designated router). Each area router receives updates from the designated router" Why need designated router? How it work? Why can?t it just broadcast LSP and leant the routing information without the need of designated router? Is designate router the same as backbone or root area in OSPF? Is "area" concept only be used in Link State Routing Protocol OSPF?

    hi...
    you will find area topology in IS IS also...
    here we are using the Area as well as DR and BDR for reducing the LSA flooding in the area... each router in ospf area will send update to the DR on multicast address and then DR will send the multicast update to all other router in the area... here each and every router in the area have the full adjucancy with DR but they are not in the full adjucancy with any other router ...
    hope this will help you

  • How can i change email address for security questions and password resets

    I've noticed that my password reset requests are going to an old email acount. In fact, i am not sure where they are going.
    the real issue is that i don't see a way to change it when i am logged in (it took me many tries to actually log back in) to my apple id account.
    I've changed alternate email accounts, but again i don't see a way to change my destination email account for security section of the account.
    Also i would rather reset these via text (ATT has this option for my cell phone account reset and i love it).  I don't see an option like that from Apple at all.
    Any suggestions and help will be much appreciated. Don't want to struggle with password resets every time i need to get in.

    If you're able to supply two of your security answers, click here and follow the instructions to change your rescue email address.
    If not, you need to contact Apple.
