Administrator access only

I am going to be taking my Mac Pro to an Apple authorize repair dealer. I have files on my hard drive that I want to keep private so I have file vault turned on. I have two users configured on my Mac. One is the administrator that has full access to my computer. The second user that does not have administrator access (can't have access to my files). When I drop my Mac off at the Mac dealer to have a new battery installed, install more ram memory, diagnose why my computer is not starting properly when I push the start up button on computer, and find out why my computer is not awaking from sleep. Will the technician be able to do these proceeders logged on as an user of my computer, who does not have administrator access to my computer?

They might need admin access. If you do a backup of your computer, turn File Vault off, and remove the files, the techs will be able to work much easier.

We have two users that have been using Creative Cloud for almost a year. Recently, sometime in the last 4ish weeks, the users can no longer run Creative Cloud apps. (Yes, our subscription is paid.) Error simply says administrator access is required to install. The apps have already been installed. The users cannot run them unless they are in the local admin group.Using "Run as admin" does not work. It gives the same error.
I have opened a case with adobe support and was basically told to suck it up and put the users in the admin group. Actually, what was said was that it is "mandated that the users have administrative rights".
There are a couple of things wrong with this. It was working for both users until recently - a recent required creative cloud update. The users have never been local admins yet the apps were working (poorly, but working).
We are in an enterprise environment and users simply do not have administrative rights on the computers.
I have changed permissions on all adobe folders, granting users or authenticated users modify or full control rights, did the same in whatever Adobe registry HKLM keys I could find. Nothing has allowed the users to run the apps - unless they are put in the local admin group.
Someone has to have a fix for this. Adobe apps have proved to have far too many vunerabilities to even entertain the idea of elevating user rights. I can't imagine that enterprise environments are allowing this.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Jeff,
Thank you for your response. The users in question are "standard" domain users. We do not reduce users permissions below the standard level.
The apps do not load with their current standard user permissions.
The thing that makes this odd, is that up until recently they did this issue with cloud apps. The only way I can make it work for them now is to put them in the local administrator group on their pc's - which is not going to happen.
This is what they now see. As I said before, this was not a problem up until recently they would see all their available apps. If I put them in the local admin group the apps are listed without having to install. Everything is there, just not accessible to the user.

  • Administrator access required to use a new printer?

    Hello.
Does connecting a new printer connection require administrator access in Mac OS X (e.g., 10.5.8)? I gave a client an non-administrator account so he cannot change settings and stuff for security reasons.
    Thank you in advance.

    Kappy wrote:
They can use a printer, but they cannot make changes to Print & Scan preferences nor install a new printer. That would require the admin user. Unless, of course, you've banned them from even using a printer.
Yeah, but I don't want to ban the user from everything. Hmm, I wonder if it is possible to allow printers only.

  • VISTA & WIRELESS : HOW TO SOLVE LOCAL ACCESS ONLY?

Thank you for your reading and possible answer(s),
UNABLE TO GET "LOCAL AND INTERNET ACCESS" UNDER VISTA, WHILE IT WAS POSSIBLE UNDER XP
I used to get connected "home-like" with XP to a "secondary wireless router" (SSID: Wlancomtrend - no authentication needed, no work group, signal strength: Excellent), which gets the internet signal from a "main wireless router", plugged to the DSL line (SSID: Wireless - no authenticatin needed, no work group, signal strength: Good / Low).
I am not the administrator of these routers. I used to get DNS automatically under TCPIP properties.
VISTA DOESN'T LET ME ACCESS THE INTERNET, THOUGH I MANAGE TO CONNECT TO THE SAME ROUTER
It says: "Access: local only"; and under Network and sharing center it says "unidentified network". I gess I'm a bit unfamiliar with this OS and do not master all its settings. I also marked off security essentials like Firewall under Windows security center, to prevent any possible internet access blocking. My laptop power plan is also set to "High performance".
    - I suspect my ID network is not well configured. Under System properties (right click on the "My computer icon") > Computer name > network ID > Join a Domain or Workgroup: I'm trying to keep the "This is a home computer" setting, but it goes back to "This computer is part of a business network" all the time, even after reboot. How to fix this, by the way?
    - Under Network and Sharing center > Customize the current connection > location type > i set it to "public".
Other factors maybe irrelevant: / Sharing discovery > Network discovery: "On" / > file sharing: "On".
I get DNS automatically under TCPIP properties (as with XP).
A couple of days ago, VISTA managed to get internet with the "main wireless router" (SSID: Wireless - no authentication needed, signal strength: Good / Low). I just tried to set ID network to "This is a home computer" and rebooted. Under the network window, I also tried to tick a network location or workgroup. This may not be important, though.
I STILL JUST GET LOCAL ACCESS ONLY WITH MY WIRELESS CONNECTION UNDER VISTA
Any help? Molta mercé / Many thanks
    Also tried:
    - Automatically Detect Settings checked in internet options
    - Obtain an IP address automatically under TCPIP properties
    - Enable DHCP
    - Disable User Account Control in Security Center
    - Disable most of the Vista security stuff
    - Remove and set up all connections
    - IPv6 off
    - etc.

Well, I have been thoroughly frustrated by this networking problem in Vista.  What is so INSIDIOUS about it, is that it can happen spontaneously/periodically.  When it first started happening, I could go for hours with
no problems.  And then all of the sudden, it's "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY."   I'd even lose my Internet connection completely, but then it would come back momentarily.  Lately though, the problem got worse.  It would happen every 5-10 minutes.
What really drove me nuts originally is that I had set up a new wireless router: a TP-Link TL-WR941N.  Very nice and powerful.  It can reach up 3 stories in a multi-story home.  I have my computer up on the 3rd floor.  My Internet
connection was no problem... for MONTHS.  And then, all of the sudden, this "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY" problem started cropping up.  My network connection would change to this, then after a few moments, go back to "LOCAL AND INTERNET".
I figured it was some kind of "momentary atmospheric problem".  But no.  It continued on, for days and days after it had started.  Why?  Why would this start happening when nothing else had changed?
Ah, but that's where I was amiss.  You see, Vista gets updated frequently by the powers that be at Microsoft.  And who knows what things they really do?  You don't get a full report.  You just keep getting "important security updates".
Well, I suspect that at some point, they introduced some changes which affect the networking capability of Vista.  And so, since that point, you'll have periodic problems as I have.
Microsoft is so focused on Windows-7, that they really can't be bothered with Vista.  AND... I really wonder if they leave defects like this around to give incentive for people to upgrade to Windows-7.  I wouldn't put it past them.
Well, the main thing is that each person's situation is different.  Some people have 3rd party software that is tripping it up (like Norton or McAfee).  I think a lot of the problem depends upon the type of wireless router you're connected with
and the type of network (e.g. G vs. N).  So that's why some fixes proposed solve the problem while others do nothing.
If you try any settings changes, I strongly recommend that you do them one at a time.  Also, keep note of what you've applied.  It is important to be able to roll back those changes if need be.
So, this was the first friendly user tip that helped me:
Over the course of several days, I made only one change at a time, then waited to see if the failure occurred again.  I'm an IT networking professional so I based my decisions on my familiarity with network protocols, impact, risk, ease of
    implementation and fallback positions.
These are the steps I took:
    1.  Installed Teracopy, which takes over the file copying function of Windows.
    http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php
    2. Disabled IPv6 (Control Panel -> Network Connections -> <your connection> -> Properties)
    3.  Disabled Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper and Responder (Control Panel -> Network Connections -> <your connection> -> Properties)
    4. Set Power settings to high performance (Control Panel -> Power Options) and disabled the screensaver (Control Panel -> Personalization -> Screen Saver)
    5. Reduced my Linksys router's MTU to 1480 (although I doubt this was part of the solution)
    6. Enabled ECN with the following command "netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=enabled" from command line (Start -> cmd)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb726965.aspx
Possibly step 6 is all you really need to do.  Please post if this works for you.
Well, I figured I'd give step #6 a shot.  Why not?  There are a few other command line settings recommended, but I decided to try it alone first:
netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=enabled
At first, this seemed to be the only thing I needed to do.  My "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY" problem seemed to stop happening, observed over a 20 minute period.  It happened again for a moment, but then Internet Access returned right away.  I thought
the problem was solved... But then "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY" came back and stayed.  I had to run these commands as well:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
This WORKED!  I seem to sustain my Internet connection for much longer periods.  LOCAL ACCESS ONLY does pop up sometimes, but it is very brief.  I think it's something to do with my router going into "sleep mode" on the
connection.  If I try to make a connection to a website, it comes back to life and I have Internet Access again.
    LASTLY...
There is one other thing I want to mention, in case someone else reading this has the same problem.
One day after a severe storm that caused a power outage, I started getting "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY."  The wireless router was there and I'd connect to it, but no Internet.  I connected directly to it, hardwired, and STILL had the same problem.  I
rebooted the router, the cable modem, you name it.  Same problem.  Being directly connected to the cable modem was fine.  Did my router get fried from a power surge during the storm?  It seemed perfectly fine in all other respects.  I
eventually contacted the TP-LINK customer support.  I learned something new...  the problem was with the IP ADDRESS of the router conflicting with the cable modem.
By default, your wireless router will take IP address 192.168.1.1.  In some cases, this will be a problem if the cable modem is taking the same IP address
and is finicky about the address of the wireless router.  It was fine for almost 6 months... why did it become a problem all of the sudden?  Bizarre.  Suspicion was that the ISP changed some things (they remotely reprogram
the modems from time to time, you know).  The solution?  Give the wireless router a different address (e.g. 192.168.2.1).  It worked!  I was able to get Internet access after that.  Worked fine for several months,
too...  until I started getting that periodic "LOCAL ACCESS ONLY" again.  But the solution above seems to have addressed it.
Good luck to those having problems.  I sure wish Microsoft would be more dedicated to its customer base.  But thankfully we've got forums like this which bring people together to help solve each others problems.  :-)

  • No Administrator Access

I am the administrator of my machine and have my user + one more created, however for some reason I do not have administrator access. The secondary user does not have administrator access either.
When I log into the System Preferences / Accounts, the "Allow user to administer this computer" option is not available. The padlock shows as locked and when I select it a pop-up appears asking for the name and password of the administrator. I know that the password is correct and have tried entering multiple combinations of the user name but nothing works
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

only managed to get the 'Invalid Path' message even when trying the alternative commandIt isn't an alternative.
So, the first nicl command gives you "Invalid Path"? That usually means there is no "groups" category, or "admin" group, in the NetInfo database. The purpose of the 2nd and 3rd nicl commands is to create that entry, so that you then repeat the first command. What did it say to the 2nd and 3rd commands?
If it really messed up, we may need to start you up again with a default NetInfo database. Don't worry, it's not too difficult. But first, run the following commands using Terminal, not in Single User, and copy/paste the output here.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
    nireport . /users uid gid name realname home | awk '$1>500 {print $0}'
    nireport . /groups name gid users | egrep "admin|staff"
ls -ln /UsersThis will allow me to help you get your NetInfo database back in shape.

  • Windows 7 on Mac Pro, Local Access Only, No Internet

Installed Windows 7 on my 2.66 Quad Mac Pro. Whenever I boot, the network adapter icon in the traybar comes up with a yellow slash through it that says "Local Access Only" Looked into troubleshooting, turning off Network power management, turning off IP6, etc... No fixes. I can browse my local area network but not the internet.
When I boot in safe mode with networking, the error does not show on the network taskbar icon and I can browse the internet just fine.
Here's the temporary fix that I found works every time in standard boot mode.
    1. Assign a manual IP address to the network adapter. (192.168.1.160). (make sure the IP is in your DHCP Scheme and the IP is available (no other devices using that IP)
    2. It will automatically assign a subnet (255.255.255.0)
    3. Close the networking window.
    4. Right click on the network icon with the yellow through it in the task bar and click "Troubleshoot problems"
    5. It will come up quickly with a fix (saying you should not be using a manual IP). Click "Apply Fix" then windows 7 will put the computer back to DHCP Mode.
    6. Try it now. Everything should be working.
No permanent fix on this yet but when a new boot camp 3.1 network driver comes out, hopefully it should fix it. If anyone else has a permanent solution, it would be appreciated.

My thought - because the only issues I've had personally with Vista/7 have had to do with modems and routers, and went away once I upgraded those. Sometimes there are firmware updates to deal with new OS.
Your post didn't seem to mention wired/wireless or modem and router in place.
you might want to look for an Intel driver. Also, you must have had network to install and update Windows 7, look to rollback the network driver if possible, or uninstall + restart and let Windows reinstall a device driver.

  • Looking for some best practice regarding Content Administrator access

Hi. I am looking for some best practice or rule of thumb from SAP or from different companies how they address Portal Content Administrator access in Production environment. Basically, our company is implementing portal to work with SAP BW.  We are on SP 9. Basically, I am trying to determine if we should have 1-2 Portal Content Administrator in Production with 24/7 access or we should limit them from NOT having this.  Can you share with me some ideas of what is right? and what is not?
Should we have access in Production? Or Should we have this access but limited? By the way, our users are allow to Publish BI reports/queries into Production.

    Hello Michael,
Refer to this guide about managing initial content in portal.

  • Give access only one form module for a particular person.

i have four form module like accounts, import, export,HR, each module has number of menus. I have to give a person to access only the module(accounts).
when that particular person login into home page, he has to see the accounts module only.
    How to do this?
    Skud.

    Hi,
    01. You need to create a procedure to check the permission based on the username and returnm true or false based on the user access.
Then in the form, In "When-New-Form_Instance" trigger call that and check wheher user has permission or not.
If not show a error and then call "Exit_Form" in-built function.
    02. Other alternative way you can do is to add some code to logon screen and then hide unwanted menu items dynamically

  • Severity: 3 Administrative access denied, and lost wireless connection

What does that mean? I am currently watching my Logs file update every other second with a new line that looks like someone is trying to access my Airport.
The date is wrong too, says Dec. 31 when it's May 31. Line is as follows:
    Dec 31 19:03:15 Severity:3 Administrative access denied to fe80::21e:c2ff:fec0:4f0d%mirror0/49925.
The original reason why I was looking at the Log was because I got bounced off my Airport again. It happens now and then, when there are a bunch of wireless connections in the building, I can see them listed, but when it happens, my own Airport is missing from the list.
The other issue is that I am not interested in paying for someone else's internet access. I have it password protected, but the person I *think might be trying to hack it, is a computer genius/programmer who's built systems, so I'm a bit worried because I don't know anything about this stuff.
Is there any way I can make sure I'm not bounced off my connection again, and that noone else gets to use my connection?
    Thanks!

As long as you're passwords are strong, I wouldn't worry about it. There is always someone somewhere trying to gain access to a router, to get internet access or what have you.
More then likely if someone did try and access your routers, and got denied, they just moved on to the next router he could find and try to access that one.
Just make sure you're passwords are strong enough.
If you're concerned that your password isn't strong enough, or to common, check out this website.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi,

As I mentioned even though you NAT the address from outside to inside you will have to use the REAL IP ADDRESSES in the access-list statements
Your hosts on inside will still be connecting to the NAT IP address of the hosts on outside BUT the ASA needs the ACL statements with the NATed hosts original IP addresses
Let me give an simple example
    object network STATIC
    host 10.10.10.10
    nat (outside,inside) static 192.168.10.10
    access-list INSIDE-IN permit ip any host 10.10.10.10
    or
access-list INSIDE-IN permit ip any object STATIC

A content management system or CMS is software usually on the server that allows client's to log-in and edit content from any web browser with an internet connection.  These web pages are typically built with server-side programming (PHP) and databases (MySql).
